twydroyd vs tweetcaster vs. touteir vs. twitter for android

ok so this might be the wrong thread and if so the mods will move it but my question is what do the nexus one users or even the android users think is the best twitter app? i used to use twidroid and it was great but i havent used it since the switch to "twydroid" and used tweetcaster as well for not very long. i used touteir probably the longest and then switched to the official twitter for android. so i wanted to know what people like the best and for what reasons so the people who are confused as me can choose easier. thanks
It would help if you spelled "twidroyd" right.
I'm not really active twitter user but its great to read the latest news.
I used seesmic, touiteur, tweetcaster, twitter but i'm using touiteur(paid for more accounts) and that was the one i liked. It looks really slick and it works as it's supposed. the notification is also different and nice.
The only thing I loved about touteir was that you can change the colors of it.
I only use touituer as it looks the nicest UI, and I also use the official Twitter app for its system notifications and its integration into contacts app and the OS.
Twigee is the best twitter app for me.
Twicca for me
I like Seesmic because it has a widget that's dark (I like dark themed widgets).
As for the application, they're all pretty much the same and I've used seesmic, twidroid, tweetcaster, twicca and twitter for android.
Twicca is nice but the widget doesn't show tweet previews. If it did I'd probably switch from Seesmic.
+1 for Twicca. I've tried most of them, and found this one the best. It has a great UI IMHO.
Only thing missing for me is multiple accounts. Certainly worth trying out nonetheless.
Good recent comparison here
I'd say Twitter for Android is the most stable, since Seesmic crashed on me when it was doing a couple of things at once, i.e. geotagging my post and uploading a picture.
Haven't used Tweetcaster though.

i LOVE tweetcaster and Touteir. these are the two apps i use the most! its hard for me to choose which one to use so since i bought both, i find myself switching between apps every so often. i uninstall one n install the other. or ill just have them both on
Still looking for a new twitter app
For the longest time I just used SMS (on WinMo), then when I moved to android, I used SMS and Peep since it came bundled with my EVO. Well, I started really using twitter, so now I follow tons of people/bloggers/news. i set up lists to differentiate the streams. Way back int he day I had a desktop app that let me separate/make lists to keep streams separate. Is there something like that on android? I was thinking that swipe left or right could go through the different lists I have made, but I haven't come across an app that claims to do anything with lists. Currently I am testing out twitdroyd as well as Peep, but it doesn't seem that it doesn't anything substantially different. I know it has a pro version, and if it does what I want I wouldn't mind buying it, but it just has a vague "list management" feature, and the free version is "list viewing". List viewing is not as integrated as I would hope.
Any ideas or recommendations?
one thing twitter for android has thats awesome. the twitpics show on your profile instead of having to click the link.
I like Seesmic since I have to use two accounts so for multiple accounts I would choose Seesmic.
If you only need one account then I would say probably the official Twitter client.
Twicca is quite nice as well. Refer to the link to help you decide that was posted earlier. A good comparison by Engadget.

Hello everyboy,
It might be nice to add a short description after the programs name to clarify it's purpose? That way people don't have to search the market for the program every time they don't recognize it.
As for the apps, only one new suggestion:
Scrollable news - Scrollable RSS reader widget
Don't want to be a pest, but one of your apps (Applanet to be precise) is an app providing warez (illegal, pirated apps), and as such should NOT be advertised on this forum. Please remove it from your list before mods will see it.

ColorNote

Hi,
Am pretty new to Android and came across this really nice App/Widget called ColorNote. An all in one package that has a lot of features and comes in a reasonably sized package.
I'm sure many of you are already using this. The reason for the post however is not to promote this, but to ask if anyone either knows of a way to contact the author or know of an alternative to this.
What I need is an app with all the features of the above, but with a widget that is NOT a sticky post, but with something like a flip pad. That is the widget shows page 1 of the notes and then I either click an up/ down arrow to move between pages or click on the tip of a page to move between them as in the app here -> http://www.appbrain.com/app/simple-notes/hu.monsta.simplenotes
Can someone help me?
Thanks
Evernote is one of the best note taking apps. You can do voice notes, text notes and pictures. Web, desktop and phone apps. My only real complaint is that you can't write checkable lists on the phone app, but they are adding new stuff all the time. Oh and it doesn't have a widget, but you should still check it out.
springpad is also pretty good.. has awidget where you can scrol through different notes...
I use colornote for checklists. I like it. Its very clean and easy to use.
I have been trying to embrace the cloud using Springpad on my phone, CR-48 (meetings/note taking computer at work), my W7 work desktop and my Macbook Pro personal laptop. It's been working out well so far.
Colornote is nice for taking quick notes, like during a meeting or something.
For everything else, I also use Springpad. In the past I've gone through Catch (formerly 3banana) and Evernote both but I feel that Springpad is superior to all of them.
Just to add an extra choice, I've been liking Simplenote
Andronoter is a free Android client of it, www.simplenoteapp.com is the web interface.

[Q] Any way to manage the list of apps showing up when sharing an item in Android?

Title pretty much says it all.
Whenever you use Android's share function, a list of registered apps for that functionality pops up. Is there a way to manage that list by hand and remove items?
I would like to clean it up so I don't have to scroll to reach those list entries I really use.
Help and links to apps that perhaps can do that would be much appreciated!
Apps organizer allows you to group apps in your own designated folders/icon groups.this means you are never more than 2 clicks away from the app you want and you only need 1 or 2 screens. With zeam, this makes out all very snappy

I didn't mean simple app screens. I meant the list that pop ups when you share an item in the browser or Tweetdeck for example.

[Q] Notification-management on Gear

Hi @ all !
Well, first of all, I want to catch the notifications coming up from a Galaxy S4 to the Galaxy Gear, and maybe store them in a file on the Gear.
Also storing on the coupled phone (S4) would be OK. (Everything only for research-reasons.)
My Problem is: I think I have no access to a notification manager on the gear. My mini-app works on my S4. There, I can throw a notification through a service. But on the Gear, nothing happens. So I thought, that maybe the Gear has another way to manage the notifications but I didn't get it.
Any ideas?
SW: V700XXUAMK7
Galaxy S4: Android 4.3
GM: 1.5.123002
I don't really understand.
The notifications received on the gear are the same as those that appear in the notification dropdown on the phone - could you not just get that info?
On the gear, they are stored in a database. There is a notification counter and list widget available in this forum by st-tps that may be of help

Well, in Gear Manager you can choose notifications that should receive on Gear. So there are notifications on the dropdown of the phone, which do not arrive on the gear because you did not activate a certain app on GM. I only need the notifications arrived/arriving on the gear.

If I am right, this widget shows me the last notifications. But I need to handle the notifications on my own "app" because every notification should be evaluated by the user. So I need an interface or the like.
So I suppose, that on the Gear, there is no "notification manager" but a database. But how to access this DB?

Correct, it just show the last 6 arrived notifications.
The Notifications is stored in a regular SQL db located at /data/data/com.samsung.appcessory.NotiConsumerService/databases/NotificationSync.db
However Samsung doesn´t close the db correctly as they use it so you can´t just read it. you have to copy the .db, .db-shm and the .db-wal to an asset directory, open it yourself and then close the sql to be able to read it compleatly.
What kind of app are you planning to do?

I have to provide the Gear-User with a function, that allows him/her to give feedback about each notification. So I thought, that I could "catch" the notification coming up from the phone, and throw it on my own way. E.g. forcing a new activity to be shown, which shows the coming up notification, and maybe 2 buttons for feedback. Then storing this feedback anywhere...
So: The user does NOT see the "original" notification but only "my" notification with feedback-possibility.
Is that understandable?
On the phone, this would be easier. I could user the notification management and the NotificationListenerService..
But DB's which have to been copied first and closed than to be able to use.. sounds very complicated..

I don´t think it´s possible to stop the original notification from showing, all stock apps seams kinda locked up.
The latest notifications isn´t fully inserted in the db and is stuck somewhere in the db-wal and the db-shm files (temp files) so if you just open the .db file, the latest notifications is missing.
So when you copy the three files, open the db and close it again the temp files is injected in the original db and all notifications is available.
This is the best way I found so far, I´m not that into SQL so it might be better ways...

Thank you so much, st-tps. :good: I hope there is another, much more comfortable way..
But about the DB: How many notifications backwards are stored in db? How "big" is the history, I mean the number "old notifications" in the db. When is the db cleaned?
I feel like: Galaxy Gear is a big black box and only 5 people in the world know, how it works..

Neither less, the SQL db needs to be closed for the temp files to be correctly injected in the db, and since the stock app locks the db you can´t open it in its original directory. Atleast I haven´t any success...
The db contains the amount of notifications that you can see in the stock app, I haven´t seen any signs of a "roof" for the count.
If you compleatly delete the db files and reboot, you will end up with an empty stock app and some newly created db files.
We have to start somewhere to dig in this black box, it´s pretty exciting
Have you figured out how to manually populate the notification db?
