Hey guys,
I know there are a few threads that contain bits and pieces about using a T-mobile variant with an At&t sim card so was just hoping for some straight answers.
a) does at&t service work correctly when using a tmobile variant of the galaxy s6 (g920t)?
b) if you're already doing this, how did you go about sim-unlocking the phone
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!
Currently using my T-Mobile 920t on att with no issues, everything works and now don't have to deal with dropped calls. I unlocked it by using the tmobile unlock app so unless you are a T-Mobile customer for 40 days you will probably have to use the metro pcs firmware method and buy an unlock code from a third party.

Unless I misunderstand your question, you can use either version of the S4 Active with AT&T prepaid "out of the box". You don't need to unlock anything.

a friend of mine just bought a new s4 active. she was/is on a business plan on her family account. they are no longer going to use att for service. so she is stuck with this phone. she wants to do a prepaid plan with att. is it possible to make a regular service phone a prepaid phone. if so how and someone please point me in the proper direction.
You are going to have to have ATT unlock it

Umm, why? I'm not arguing; I'm just curious, since my experience was different.
I have an "extra" i537 that I got from AT&T when we signed up (signed up 4 lines on contract and got all new Actives when I did, but am using one of my SIMS in a different phone). It was brand new out of the box and, I assume, SIM locked to AT&T. When a friend was visiting from Europe I let him use the i537 while he was here. He walked into AT&T with it, bought a pre-paid SIM of some sort, stuck it in the phone, and started using it just like that. Never had to unlock anything, or at least never told me that he did...
she tried going directly to att and they failed. so i will give it a try when i get my hands on it. thanks for the help people. any additional horror stories or advise would still be greatly appreciated.
thanks again
I just did exactly this for a customer. Just insert the go SIM. No unlock required for gophone

prepaid active
I have a at&t locked active I traded a guy my note 2 for. No unlocking needed for me to use my net10 sim card in it. You shouldn't have to unlock anything to use it on prepaid.

Only ATT based MVNOs or gophone. Tmo based MVNOs will not work

Yes exactly but I thought that was common knowledge of the use of prepaid sim services. Sorry for not specifying.
thanks for all of the help. after att would not give me the code for the phone i went online and found sim-unlock.com and paid for the code. i inserted the straight talk sim card ( its what she ended up going with.) and it didnt ask for a code. but only had 2/3g connection and was only able to make calls and text. so i inserted my verizon card and voila it asked for the code. entered the code and restarted with the new card and i now have 4g and data. thanbs for all of the help
Is it possible? I have a lumia 521 for metro that I'm currently using to work on apps but my family plan is on AT&T. I'm coming from android so is there a ROM I have to flash to use a sim card for them?

SIM unlock and ROM flashing rarely have anything to do with one another. SIM unlock (depending on the locking carrier) may be free, have a nominal cost, be only available on the grey market online, or be utterly unavailable at this time.
Be aware that AT&T uses different cellular bands than T-Mobile / MetroPCS. Make sure that the phone will work on AT&T first! You may find that you're unable to get any speed better than EDGE...

The bands are all the same so I'll try finding a SIM unlock, thanks.
Guys, I am looking for unlocking my Nokia Lumia 521 which is tied with the T-Mobile. I got it couple of days back when I came to US couple of days back, but I am based out in India and not been able to use it with the Indian Carriers.
Please read the FAQ... There aren't any ROMs that ignore the SIM locking mechanism. You'll need to either call T-Mobile (or MetroPCS for the OP) or purchase an unlock code from various online sites.

I believe the answer to this is "no", but:
I have access to an AT&T SM-G900A that is not being used. My daughter is about to move to Germany for an extended period.
First, can the phone be used in Europe at all?
I certainly wouldn't want to pay AT&T's probably-exorbitant rates, so then: can we buy a SIM card there to use in it as is? (pretty sure the answer is "no")
If I unlocked the phone (by buying an unlock code), could it then be used with a Europe-purchased SIM card?
I suspect this is all more trouble than it's worth and I'm better of just finding a used unlocked GSM phone of some sort.
Much thanks.
if you can use it abroad unless you unlock it first.
I have a galaxy s5 att and I am using it with another carrier here in south america.
only bad thing is that the wifi hotspot will not work for being a simcard from another operator, only work by usb tether.
It's working well. I bought an AT&T Galaxy S5 from USA and now I use it in Romania.
The WiFi hotspot is not working, but all the other features work very well.
Probably, after the bootloader will be cracked and we will have the opportunity to install a custom rom or an unbranded rom, the hotspot will function as well.
Enjoy your gadget !
All answers are correct. I was formerly in the U.S.Army and took an old T-Mobile HTC Dream over to Kuwait with me. I called T-MO and got a sim unlock code for free. Upon getting overseas I established service with a GSM carrier over there and popped in my sim card and whallaa! My phone completely worked in Europe and the middle east.

Hi everyone,
Im thinking of getting the T-mobile Note 4 because its the most "usable" model since its bootloader is unlocked, it has different roms to choose from and can be used with LTE globally. I know there is an international model (N910f) but it seems it has trouble with LTE in the US.
So the question is, can I use the N910t (T-mobile) with another carrier right out of the box, if unlocked? Meaning the phone never touches a T-mobile sim card.
Thanks in advanced!
It will need to be unlocked, then it should work on most networks. The LTE will Not work on Verizon or sprint though.

Be careful with the LTE network. If you want to use it internationally you better check the frequency of the local LTE carrier. Most international carriers use a different frequency. Use this page to guide you en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks

OK guys, somewhat of a newbie, so try and give me a break. I am looking to upgrade to a Galaxy S8 and came across an unlocked T-Mobile S8. Can I flash the AT&T firmware to this phone? If I run the T-Mobile firmware on the AT&T network, I assume I won't get any updates? What about the radios? I know both are GSM networks and with both the AT&T and T-Mobile S8 sharing the same model number, I assume this won't be a problem.
Anyway, any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks!!!

I believe if it's unlocked from t-mobile, all you have to do is put your sim in it. Given they are both GSM and all the relevant info is stored on sim card and not the phone

you will still get updates from t-mobile. i am using a note 4 unlocked from tmobile on at&t for about a year, getting my s8+ tomorrow actually. the only thing you have to do is add at&t apn settings which are easy to find if you google. i would like to know if its possible to flash another carrier and then flash back to the phone's original carrier tho
