[Q] "couldn't install on usb storage or sd card" error on installing applications
Hi All
I am using rooted Galaxy S i9000 with XXJP2 ROM. while installing and updating few apps,it fails and shows error"couldn't install on usb storage or sd card" after installation. Have tried to locate smdl2tmp1.asec from location /mnt/secure/asec but coulnt find any.Also .android_secure folder is not on internal SD car, however it is on the external SD and it is empty.
Furthermore I also tried that Unmount SD card - Install - Mount SD Card solution without success.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

HELP !!!

I think I damaged my Kingston SD while I was trying to format it. Now when I put it into place it keeps saying "SD card safe to remove
You can safely remove your SD card". ;( My Galaxy is running MIUI 4.3 Help me, please! What should I do ?
When I inserted my SD with to my laptop none of the files were deleted nor the card was formated.I used Panasonic SD program to format but there is the same notification showing only when I insert the card in the phone.

Insert the card, ignore any messages and reboot the phone.
Once the phone comes back up, go to Settings > Storage and see if you can Mount the external SD card.
That worked for me when I got similar messages after swapping cards.

That didn`t work out. I get the same notification.Other ideas ?
I just made hard reset ... still the same problem
btw I noticed something weird in PC/Sync Setting / Default connection type there are two options *Charge only or *Mount SD card??!!! what does this means

What partition is your sdcard after you format it? It still fat32?
Hmm... if it still maybe that is MIUI bug

hm yes it is Fat32 but other strange thing I just saw from the card reader - there is a LOST.DIR folder created with nothing inside ...what does it mean ?

The LOST.DIR directory is normal, it is where corrupted files get dumped. If the Directory is empty that is just fine.
Have you tried inserting a different MicroSD card?

mmm No that doesn`t work either.
I`m suppose downgrade to original firmware should do the trick === I hope so

JOB DONE pheu downgraded to 2.2.1 froyo the job went smoothly .I assume it is not a hardware fault just the MIUI is having this kind of a bug .

Hi,
i'm having serious problems with the SD card on my Milestone. Let me explain :
1. If i try any generic app which tries to access the SD card, it says it's not there (Camera says "Please insert a SD card", other apps say similar warnings).And i can't use "update.zip" on recovery mode
2. Settings>SD card & phone storage says Unavailable to everything, like if the card is not mounted.
3. Recovery mode say "can't open /cache/recovery/command"
Any ideas ?

Try cleaning the gold contacts on the sd card an the sd card holder...
Also try seeing if the sd card works on an external sd card reader

My sdcard works fine on the card reader. I've tried so many times before: (Does anyone know the milestone with fastboot?

If it works fine in a card reader, it might be the card slot in the Milestone that might be broken.

Have you ever been brick sdcard? Also possible that so many people use android brick sdcard failed. I think the milestone card reader works fine: (

I would recommend taking your SD card, backing up the contents to your computer, and then doing a non-quick format on the SD card. There's something corrupt about the filesystem of the SD card that the phone does not like, and a format of the SD card should repair things again.

I formatted the card several times but to no avail. It does not help me format! : (

What format are you putting it in? If it is in NTFS, I believe it will not recognize it.

No,i format with Fat32. It still not recognize Milestone don't have bootloader. If have it,i can fix

I am on cynogen mode 7.3 stable.. I did some changes in build.prop and vold.fstab for mounting the external sd card in to /mnt/sdcard/external_sd..
But now I am even unable to see any sd card (internal.extenal) om my phoe...when I go into the recovery mode and choose innstall from SD card.. I am able to see my interal sd card contents...
But I am unable to view the contet using any file explorer tools..
Can anyone help me to solve this problem?

I tried that option under mount and storage in recovery mode....now i am able to see my external sd card under /sdcard and under /mnt/sdcard..but i am still unable to see internal sd card data..

after upgrade to nougat rom, my sd card not showing up in file manager or gallery. i use another sd card, install magisk module exsdcard, xposed xinternal moudule but not solve the problem. sd card just mount in almost every MM cusrom. can someone help me? please

yes of course. but didn't solve the problem still same

Use a Sd adapter and see if your sd card has multiple partitions that could be one of the cause

it has only one partition FAT32. the problem only found in nougat rom like the new cusrom DOTOs. when i change back to MM like lineage 13 it works well

I think your sd card has multiple partitions too. Let's use Minitool partition wizard to delete a partition

i use it yesterday and no other partition in sd card. then i try to format it but the nougat rom still can't read the sd card. use another sd card didn't solve the problem too. my sd card = sandisk 16gb extreme

ok thanks no problem :good:. i hope there is a patch that bring back memory in marsmallow to nougat rom

not at all maybe. i found something wrong in root system folder with root explorer. there is must be a sdcard folder in there but i can't access it. it say there is no sd card mount or something like that when i tap it. it (sdcard folder) also NOT a folder but like a file
