[Q] Is this normal? - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I had a post a while back on how my battery life was pretty abysmal but since then it has gotten worse and now i barely seem to make it to 3 hours SOT and 17-18 hours of total use. Is something wrong? Some days of heavier use it doesn't even last me 12 hours. Screenshots included for evidence.

Something seems to waking your phone up a lot bud. It's usually location settings, google play services or a rouge app that does this I had this problem on the turbo when I had the location tracking in for the command center widget, but a reboot fixed it for me and it hasn't happened since. I would try clearing cache on Google play services or uninstalling updates and re downloading them. It doesn't even show up in my battery list with 17 hours on and an hour screen on time. There is a thread about it in the Q&A section I believe. Do you have Gsam app?

I have the Gsam app but can't seem to find anything other than app usage is around 50% with android system and kernel taking up a combined 30% and Phone and google services another 10%. I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling updates for play services now and I've already tried clearing cache. I might wipe my phone and restore it as soon as i can find a good way to back everything up without root

Let me know if any of the above work, if not we'll get it figured out man. A FDR may be the best solution

Your signal is also really weak, so you should take in mind that bad signal is a real hog for your battery.
Wait for Lollipop, it should release today according to the rumours and for sure it would give you a lot more of battery.

after a complete wipe, app usage in gsam went down from 50% to around 28% which to me says it was a rogue app waking my phone. I guess the bad signal just contributes to the problem. Seems like I'll be able to get 4-4.5 SOT which i can live with. I just wish we had root and an unlocked bootloader so i could really utilize the power of this battery

Deleted original post.
Never mind... Was talking about a different phone lol.

Battery life Moto X 2014

Trying to get the most out of the battery. Tried turning as much as I could off. Any suggestions for optimal settings while not cutting all the good out. Currently running 5.1 pure. Rooted greenify everything that says running NFC off BT off location set battery saving. Google now cards off. Still getting extremely high Google services percent. Phone currently at 30%
Also under security and apps with usage access what is this MotoCarelnt.
What SOT are you getting?
OK here is today's still at 64% but barely used the phone and google services still seems high considering I've tried to basically disable everything possible. Also SOT yesterday was about 2hrs.

Here's today's still getting high Google services
Is it just normal or what
I having the same issue. battery draining like mad since I installed 5.1 leak rom. I'm on pure version, not rooted.

I've been having the same issue the past couple weeks. Phone seems to be staying awake (reported under Android OS). I've tried uninstalling a bunch of apps, turning off BT and location services, etc. Doesn't seem to be doing any good. I used to go to bed with about 50% battery. Now I'm lucky if I have 10% left. Maybe 2 hrs SOT with 50% brightness.
Ok I found this from another thread from another site but I think this might finally be fixed. So go settings->app->all-> then scroll down to google play services. Select uninstall updates and then clear dalvik cache and regular cache and bam! Google services no longer killing battery. Also turn off all the location reporting from Google and anything else you can find and turn off syncing that isn't needed. 2hrs sot at 69% not too bad and also turn LTE preferred to H+ still plenty fast and saves more battery.
so here's the stats after these settings
Definitely better but Google services seem to come creeping back later in the day.(which was said may happen). SOT still pretty dam good but will be interesting to see tomorrow. Obviously there's some little bug going on but I can live with it. Maybe one day someone will actually figure it out. Still an awesome phone. 5hrs SOT at 10% can't complain to much but would be nice to get through a day
I have exactly the same problem! But this didn't happen before. As you can see on my screen. Everything was OK, than I used my phone for a little while and from that point it started draining the battery like crazy. And I din't touch it most of the time! ...

Hey did you update google services after this? Or you are using old version?

TMO NEXUS 6 Battery life since newest update

My device is unrooted
Everything was going great until the newest update that came last week. Since this my battery life has gone down hill fast. I feel like I'm back on my G1.
I have two questions is anyone else having this issue at all?
My other question is all my previous phones have had SD card spots so when I reset myphone all my pictures are stored there. If I reset myphone do I lose all my pictures?
Battery life has been good for me on that build and the recent fi build as well. Do you have a secondary battery meter like better battery stats? There is no sd card in the phone so yes that would be lost.
of course you can check why your battery times have dropped.. like maybe a stuck process or a certain app draining battery. im nearly 100% sure its not because of the update, but it can be user related. your signal quality could be worse as well, which will also drain battery faster.

why not use an auto photo backup app like picasa or similar?
you really should be doing this regardless. countless times people have come on here all frantic because something happened to their device and they lost all pics needlessly.

When I feel my phone getting hot or I notice the drain is going on I turn off my phone let it set to cool down or I just straight up restart it.
I live a pretty routine based life, Work, Church, Gym, Home.... So my signal life hasn't changed. My usage hasn't gone up or down....but my battery has since that update.
I do have battery apps to keep an eye on things. Display is number (of course) and number 2 which isn't normal is Android OS.

well, what ive found out iver the years that im with android is that battery apps are pointless, and end up using your battery. just check you regular battery usage/stats. nobody uses their phones the exact same way every single time, its impossible. and when you are out, walking around, or driving, your signal quality will change, constantly. and apps, many times they will get a process stuck, and drain much more battery than normal. and then there is google play services, that will occasionally drain lits of battery, especially when its updating itself. in reality, there are numerous other reasons, besides the update, that will make you battery drain quicker. too numerous to list, lol.

my battery also has been going deep underground after last security update! nothing changed in the usage or the number of apps that i keep installed, so the suspect that the drain depends on the update in my opinion is becoming more and more real.
i also keep checking battery's stats and there isn't any anomaly or discrepancy compared to pre-update's stats.
I am in the same boat. I was using about 2-3 percent an hour before the security patch. But since the patch dropped I've been averaging about 10 percent an hour. I have to recharge at least once in the middle of the day. None of my apps changed.
Same here, noticeable difference in battery performance since last weeks update. Only change to apps is I am now using Google fit since last week, thought it was that but battery stats say otherwise.

So last night I backed up all my pictures on my computer and the cloud. Tonight I will reset my phone before bed Ill have a better idea of what it will do tomorrow. It kinda stinks because I have this zooper/launchy/popup widget masterpiece going on my homescreen
Ill report back....
I have noticed the same issue since the OTA patch. Reminded me of my old Galaxy S where it would not go into deep sleep after being unplugged at a full charge without a reboot. I've gone without a reboot and with rebooting since the update and my phone is much better off after a reboot. About 7% per hour lost without compared to about 3-4% per hour lost with a reboot. Pretty consistent usage on a daily basis. Just my personal observation. I'm on AT&T though.
I got better battery life after the update... But then it went back to normal. I was being about 30 to 45 minutes extra SOT but now I'm back to my average times of 4-4:15 hours
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Take this for what it is.... I wake up at 545 grab my phone since the update by the time I get to work 7am it would be 96 or below.... I reset my phone last night and the phone seems back to normal at 99%-98%when I sit at my desk..... All apps reloaded and working before bed.....
My N6 is worse off for battery too after OTA update of last week. Seems like Google Services has just gotten a lot more aggressive doing what it is supposed to be doing. I hope Marshmallow will fix this.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Well, mine also loses a lot per hr...and it alsways is the cell interface that is being kept awake over hours of time during a day.
Mainly email and Google services are the apps sucking it off...
Any ideas?
Factory reset and back to normal so far.

Nexus 6 Battery

Hey all,
Over the past month I've been getting unusual battery life out of my nexus 6. I now get somewhere around 1 hour and 30 mins SoT and I need to charge my phone during the day. I should say that before this month I could get up to 3 hours SoT no problem and without needing a charge in the middle of the day. I thought that maybe it was because I was running a custom ROM, so I went back to full stock with no noticeable differences.
I did some googling and decided to wait until Android M came along to see if that fixed my battery problem. Today, however, I was so baffled with my battery after using it for 17 minutes and seeing a 13% drop in battery. I feel that this is unacceptable. I have attached the screencaps of battery usage below. Can you guys offer any insight?
Thanks,
-EliteForceJac

first off, google play services is using a lot of battery. usually this is normal, as it will use mire when its updating itself. but if it is high in use consistently, then its not normal. and over the coarse of time, your battery will hold less and less of a charge, but this usually will be a year or two before you notice any differences.

So this is something that I will just have to deal with for the time being? Or can i lessen the drain from google play services?
I just freeze most of Google play stuff wit tibu. yesterday I had 2.5hrs sot with 61% battery remaining. stock rooted 5.1.1
edit * do not freeze Google play services or Google app, just wanted to be clear that I freeze a lot of the Google apps that I never use. not sure if it has any effect on battery or not. I am guessing you have a wakelock issue.

if its as normal google play services drain, itll last only about a battery cycle. if its a service thats "stuck", then you would need root to get handle on it. you can always try just rebooting, that could fix it as well on occasion.

All day today i have been getting a pop-up saying Google Play Services is un-responsive. It gives me an option to force close, or wait. After i force close it, my battery is back to normal and phone isn't laggy.
Is there an underlying problem or is today just a bad day for my Google Play Services app?

it could be just today is a bad day for it(it does happen), or could be a problem. if it lasts more than 2 days, id say its a problem. of course, you can google google lay services apk, and just install tbe newest apk manually. which could fix it possibly.

I get around 9.5 to 10 hours sot. I took following measures.
1. format phone using recovery.
2. perform graphic test. It will re-install your update.
3.reboot your phone.
4. Setup your phone fresh Do not recover any apps from your google account. Manually install from play store or take a backup of apk's on your memory card/pc.
5. Enter your google account only after entire phne setup is complete.
6. Install all your apps.
7. Setup your apps under Adaptive battery as per requirement.
8. Disable adaptive brightness.
After setting up your phone, messages and other stuff force stop and disable google and google play store(wipe data and cache of both apps). This may seem controversial but it seems Google apps are causing some issues. You can activate them on need basis.
Your battery will drain faster for a week as Adaptive battery learns your battery usage. Post one week it will perform as a charm. Also recalibrate your battery from 15-100% 1-2 times, it might help.
I would also like to point that I am not using Nokia's quick charge but rather Sony's normal charger. It charges a bit slow by also keeps my device cool.
I can confirm this as for the last cycle my Sot was 9hrs 40 mins(90%to 15%) and for previous to last cycle it was around 7 hrs 43 mins(this was when I deactivated google apps and play store at 53%). Sorry I forgot to take screenshot to prove it. Refer screenshot below. I started video loop at 53%. At this time my Sot was 4.5 hrs.
I am sure you would have tried every word in the dictionary to get you battery performing good, there's no harm in trying this one too. But, it's your call.
I am not saying that you should try it. This is what worked for me and I am sharing it with you.
My entire test was with 90% Volte and 10% wifi(I exhausted my data pack).
P.S: I have deactivated all the fancy stuff like glance, wake up on pick etc. Brightness at 35%. I am using dark theme for app drawer and wallpapers.
Hope this works for you.
My only gripe is how to reduce battery standby time. It seems rooting would be the only option.

As I said in my previous post, I tried all the possible solutions to get a good battery. This was part of the last thing I tried and I got a pretty decent Sot. Hence I am sharing it.
The graphics setup may work for some, it may not for some... but for sure it won't brick your device. So no harm trying it.
Completely charging and draining the battery twice fixed my problems. I get good battery life on Pie.

This is exactly which I tried for the past two weeks and am getting mixed results altogether.
Medium usage 6h 30min SOT with 42 hour standby
Roughly 2 days since i charged and it has been connected mostly on wifi. That is a good mix.
Flat out if i use it from 100% then it will/may last even 9-10 hours SOT

Massive battery drain before and after wipe

Hi. Can someone help me with my problem?
Im facing massive battery drain even after wipe, im only getting around 3/4h SOT. In BBS, 2 alarms are weird Job.delay. And job.deadline. I have wiped my phone, installed last version of rom, after that i have restored my apps. Problem still exist. Next i have installed kirasakura kernel and then frozen every of my apps, and its still there. After night im losing around 10/20% of battery. Im attaching some screens from bbs. Thanks in advance for every help.
i'll try to help as much as i can. install servicely and look at running services. if you see something weird, stop that service.
also, i see you're using bluetooth. that thing drained my battery as bluetooth would stay turned on even when it says it's off. what you can do is turn it on and off and it should stop bluetooth service from running.
in servicely you can disable apps from running in the background. maybe some app is running full throttle even tho you thought you closed it.
another thing you can check is if xmode is running. once i had system turning on xmode on even tho i closed the app that used it.
as you're rooted, check with some kernel manager what cpu governor is turned on. maybe the system is stuck in performance mode.
lastly, you can check your battery capacity. maybe it needs calibration. that could also result in battery drain as it's not charged to the max.
also, android 10 is generaly badly optimised for our phone. it has some good features, but powerwise it's not that efficient.
if nothing works out, i'd suggest returning to latest android 9 and do battery calibration.
Thanks for answer. I have installed servicely but im not see anything suspicious. Xmode is off, governor ist in performance mode. About battery calibration, i dont need extra juice from my battery, i want to lose 1% over night, not 20%.. Probably around July/august everything was fine, my battery last for almost 3 days, now something eating it alive and i dont know what is it. Can i somehow check which app generate this "job" alarms? In BBS its "Android" only..
battery calibration isn't about extra juice, it's about system showing the right percentage. you could lose a lot of battery because it doesn't get charged to its max capacity.
there could also be a problem with the lastest update. when i was seeing a lot of battery drain, i had it because system constantly used location services. check in services if there are any location processes running. also it could be because of network. maybe your phone is constantly switching between 3g and 4g.
you can also check in the kernel manager what is your current battery draw in mAh. if its always over 300mAh, then you have a problem.
look for a wakelocks running in the background and disable and enable some to get them resetted.
Probably u have solved my problem. Even after turning off location, i still have some running services with location in name. I have blocked all of them in servicely and after night i lost 1% of battery. I will check now in later days. Thanks a lot

A reload generally solves nothing and wastes time. It's always best to find the root cause(s) and address them directly otherwise they tend to reoccur.
Viruses (never had to), boot loops (prey it works) and old loads are the only times I reload.

yeah i thought it could be that. it's also worth checking if you have "find my phone" turned on. it's somewhere in the settings. search for device admin apps. if you see any apps turned on as device administrators, turn that off. those could also drain battery
Yep, i have turned off "find my phone" now. Thanks once again. Now i have nearly 8h SoT again. I hope it will be all good now
i'd still do battery calibration if i were you. 8 hours of sot is not that much. i mean, it is if you're playing games all the time
After couple of days, problem is back. No new apps, 3 days was good, 0/1% drain in night, now its again about 15/20%. I will just sell this phone becouse i dont have any more patience...6000mah and my OP3 with half of that value can ez get about 5h sot. Aktually im getting about 3/4h sot and 3h calls. When i have bought this phone i have had about 10 h SOT and 5 h of calls in 3 days of usage. Never again gonna buy phone from asus. Thanks guys for every help
i wouldn't condemn the whole brand because of one phone model.
also try going back to android 9 and check how's the battery drain without any apps installed. then start installing your apps and monitoring if the drain will increase.
i'm currently on android 10 and there is some major problem with battery regulation. raw capacity goes below zero when the percentage is below 10 percent. no wonder the whole system starts stuttering when battery level is below 3%.
