[Q] help on ota update (rooted but locked bootloader) - Sony Xperia ZR

okay so I tried the ota for lollipop so many times but always 'cannot install update' pops up after reboot. I read a few threads here and I learned that the best way is to install a stock firmware then update to LP. btw my phone is C5502, i installed superSU but i have it permanently unrooted and was successful. Also i installed busybox but uninstalled it now. I have a foldermount but it's not working since i have no root anymore. Plus my phone is still bootlocked, i guess. anyone can help me what to do since I cant do flashing without a computer. I'll really appreciate some help here.

I'v this problem too but i get over it by updating by sony pc compination

OTA will often fail if you have changed anything in the system.
Root, uninstalled a system app so to do a OTA you will have to undo the changes and also se that there are no left over files.

[Q] SuperUser update problem

Hello there,
Last Sunday I updated my SuperUser apk to the latest version and attempted to update the SuperUser binary to 3.0.6 through the SuperUser app. The update process failed, however, and left me without a working binary. The last 2 days I've been trying to get SuperUser back up using all sorts of things, such as flashing a .zip from the SuperUser website, pushing the contents myself, and using both SuperOneClick and FlashTool, but to no avail. I really need SuperUser because of the limited hard disk in the X8.
I was hoping someone knew of another way of fixing this problem.
Also, is restoring the stock ROM (which I'm using anyways) using PCC or SEUS an option to getting my phone fully unrooted so I can reroot it?
Thanks in advance, Thom
Yes, you can restore the stock ROM via SEUS or PCC, you can re-root later.
It happened to me on sunday when i update superuser, i was using gingercruzt... i lost the root access i was not able to restore all my apps with titanium backup! so, i reinstalled gingercruzt. luck!
For me updated su works fine. Just install and update binary.

when i updated the binary, i lost the root access too...
is not necessary restore the original rom.
step1:
make a backup
step 2:
just download “su-3.0-bin-efgh-signed” and flash via CWM
step3:
enjoy again
step4:
remeber never again update the [email protected]%& binary
http://goo-inside.me/superuser/
if it doesn't work, try other SU's like 3.0.1-bin
Hello, my firs post but not last . When I was root x8 15 days before, I installed xRecovery and link2sd, and another app. So, after I update superuser to 3.06, I lost root permissions. Now, there is no chance to access to xRecovery menu, with meny times clicking (I never didn't update android 2.1 to another version 2.2 or 2.3....).
Any help?
Does anybody know how to resolve this?? Please...

@Svartehjerte
Thanks for reply.
Yes, I am sure . What you think, whether to again try to root my x8 whit superoneclick?

Rooted 4.2 can't update ota?

My rooted 4.2 c5502 started showing ota for 4.3 (file size is 307.1Mb), I was hoping update via ota would retain the root. Unfortunately, after many tries, the update keep on failing.
When click on update, system will reboot and screen showing android icon with a progress bar. The progress bar will run for about 3 or 4 second and system just rebootsback to lockscreen and show a msg saying "could not install".
I assume this might be due to the dual recovery I installed? Before I try restore the recovery, anyone else able to update via ota and still got root?
I too rooted my phone nd tried to update the phone via OTA. But I was getting error message.
I didnt install any recovery. I just rooted my phone via vroot.

Thanks for the confirmation. I know for sure you can update through PCC as I did for another phone. I too rooted using vroot. Anyone else with other rooting method pls share the result.

In another thread a possible solution for this problem was mentioned: if you have renamed or deleted some original files (like system apk's or some other protected files) the upgrade routine recognizes it and stops the upgrade process.
In my case the problems were caused by removed apps, when I restored them, everything worked flawlessly.

[Q] Superuser not in apps after root

Hi, Have tried in last few weeks to update Ace from Gingerbread to Kitkat. Successful but then had overheating and random shutdowns after installing S2E although I have no way of knowing if that was the cause! Then tried to update from within the Ace to RC11. Total failure. Lost menu and back button and keyboard. Tried to go back by reinstalling CM11 but that left me with a setup screen and the message "unfortunately the setup wizard has stopped". Only answer was to use Odin and reinstall official stock kernel. My thanks to brijeshep for that.
So decided to try again but stupidly installed cwm before Upd_1.zip, which would not install from cwm. Used root_cooper.zip (thanks again) and got a success message and phone now rooted. However, "superuser" is not in apps, which it was first time around. How can I check that it is rooted before installing KitKat again?
Any advice on this gratefully received.
Try Root Checker
Tried that! Not enough memory!! Which is why I was trying to root and then install CM11 and S2E. Managed to reinstall stock rom thanks to Odin and then rooted no problem with upd1. Have now installed CM11 running 4.4.4 and will wait a few days before installing any apps apart from gmail and will try S2E if it will work with the 4.4.4. rom.
But thanks anyway for taking the trouble to reply.
ReBoot 1or2
times and see

Hi There,
you can download the app called Root Checker.apk to check your root status whether you are rooted or not. And then you can manually installed SuperSu or Super User

[Q] Verizon Maintenance Update KXA21.12-L1.26-3

So this morning I got this maintenance update and now I'm being told that an update is available and that this install is differed. When I click on "select to continue update" I'm told my system is up to date. I've already wiped cache, which did not help. Anyone else experiencing this?

Are you unlocked and rooted?
Nope, totally stock Verizon 4.4.4. I'm so far out of the loop, I didn't even know I could unlock and root in the first place.
Anyone have a fxz for this update? I have it too, but I am rooted with twrp.

There does not appear to be an FXZ for this.
You can try flashing stock Recovery.img onto your phone and take it. Unlike other OTA's that failed due to Xposed, this one did not give me any issues installing with Xposed still enabled.
NOTE: I'm unlocked bootloader, rooted, running TWRP, with Xposed instaled (MotoXNetActivity module installed). I haven't made any other modifications. I only run apps that require root like AdFree, wifi tether for root, Root Explorer, etc.

Thanks, I think this answered my questions in the other thread.
Is there a risk to try running the update with stock recovery and other Xposed modules like Gravity Box? Would they fail similarly to a failed system check like I've had in the past for removing/renaming system apps and such?

Root won't "stick"

I have an n910t running 5.1.1., dok2. I tried rooting several times with chainfire for 5.1.1. through Odin. It goes through the process okay (or at least it seems to), and appears to work at first, but then I lose it. Root Checker verifies root, as does SuperSU, but after a few minutes it's gone. Ive installed Titanium Backup, AdAway, and AdBlock. For the most part, they don't recognize root. If they do (it takes a long time to recognize) they lose it shortly thereafter. Rebooting doesn't help. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Anyone have any ideas??
Just looked now. For one example, SuperSU acknowledges AdAway, but when I try to fire up AdAway, it won't work, saying it doesn't have access.
Did you install twrp and did it ask after you booted to twrp if you wanted to root the device.. if so this was a no no.. your already rooted twrp just get a little confused with the new kernels... you must remove root and reinstall supersu and when it ask when you load twrp do not root but reboot do not swipe... unless there is an easier way this worked for me...
I had the same or a similar problem. I didn't lose root completely but at times various apps were unable to gain root (after previously getting it successfully). The phone would freeze while Titanium or Root Explorer for example were waiting fruitlessly for root to be granted. It was haphazard. One time the app would work and next time it wouldn't, or another wouldn't.
Finally it got so frustrating that I installed my favorite rom on it (Tekhd). Now all is stable. I was hoping to keep it stock rooted until mm came out but I couldn't figure out what was going on so I blew it away. I had twrp on it too and would always be prompted "root not detected" but if I allowed it to install SuperSu it would loop.

Thanks for the replies. I tried to install twrp once, but it kept freezing. Then I tried without it. Similar behavior outcomes either way.
I'm leaning toward just swapping out ROMS as this is very annoying. Isn't that a dangerous thing to attempt if root is so unstable though?

you need to odin the firmware for your phone and then restart fresh
without root twrp won't install rom you will get error..
Thanks. I did start fresh with stock firmware. Tried three times. Same result each time. I just reflashed to stock this morning. I'm actually using my old GS3 until I can figure this out. I'm on AT&T's network. I bought the T-Mobile variant just so I could root and possibly test drive a few custom ROMs. I'm ticked that even root has been elusive so far!
Any other suggestions?

Thanks! I'll give that a try when I get home today.

You rock!! It seems that took care of it. I went through the process last night, but wanted to wait a bit to see if any issues surfaced. So far, it's been perfect. Thank you!!

Or as is the case with some roms, if an app takes to long to get supersu permission, especially after a reboot, all u have to do is open the supersu app then open the app u want root for.

I had tried that. It was very sluggish, and would frequently drop root access altogether. Since following S5Sickness's advice it's been solid, however.
