One of my friends wants me to root and flash a new rom to their Note but I have no idea which rom (ICS or GB) is the best.
Now before anyone flames me I just want to ask your opinions on the latest developments. Clearly I am asking for opinions. I also do not currently have this device.

Rocket gb is the most stable.
All GB Roms are very stable, and you won't go wrong if you flash any of them.
OTOH, ICS is not so stable and requires high user maintenance and fixing. I'd stay away from early ICS releases if I were you.

Cool thanks. Any recommended Rom aside from the one mentioned before as in what makes you go to it. I do understand about AOSP Roms and how unstable they can be in the beginning. Also is anyone planning to port CM9 to the note?

Maui is one taking care of CM9 port.. as of now there is no official leak yet. so once the leak is out then the development ll begin and the ROM ll be in hands soon.

Well, basically there are two types of custom GB roms ATM.
1. Light ones (much of the Samsung and other crapware removed)
They are fast and battery efficient. Some users don't like them because of the missing features. I prefer them, though: anything you need can be installed after flashing.
The light Roms are
Cassie's XL
Chrack's Small
2. Full Roms containg almost everything a stock Rom has
These Roms are somewhat (but not much) slower than the light ones, and their batter life can be slightly shorter if you do not monitor what your multitude of apps is doing behind your back, if you get my drift.
You'll find a full list of Note Roms with links here:

As I said before this isn't for me I personally don't have a note but am doing this for a friend and I know aosp ics is a little too unstable on anything for me to flash it to a device that I don't own. So that being said I will probably stick with gb unless they really want ics.

If your friend doesn't even know how to root and flash, then advise him/her that ICS is not the way to go. Otherwise you'll get bugged to death with requests to fix this and that.

ah...never mind.
OMG seriously if you wanna argue about who note is bigger pm each other and deal with it there.
Same bs no matter where you go on xda someone says something that someone doesnt like and bam out comes the flamethrower.
Ya like i said not my Note so i dont wanna experiment. Not to say i havent thought about Miui. I do however need something as rock solid as possible.
To be truthful both of your notes are bigger than mine coz i dont have one.
That being said my transformer does run CM9 and Cornerstone.
So I have seen in my cell a few friends, GN2 and S3, the Omega ROM and it really is very good, but anyway ...
wanted to know if the developer could not bear this ROM to our N7000
It's a great need, we have several good ROMs but sin in many battery
Anyway, if you can be a great pleasure and be a success!
Hug!
+1
Why not asking the original dev?
Omega is also just based on note 2 and s3 stock roms with some mods and tweaks...so what you wanna get ported?
You can port it, but it'd be a lot easier to port whatever features you want to an XXLSC ROM.

Ok...But...Why?
The Hardware platform is the same with note 2, except the CPU (same model, quad-core capability) and the micro-sd capacity.
I agree that there could be some minor differences in the platform in order to support quad-core capability, but this should not held us back.
Just like Windows...they work with all kinds of prosessors. You just need different motherboard.
And -in this case- the motherboard is present. :good:

You are using the wrong word: "us".
If you are interested to try a Custom Rom that wasn't made for the N7000, try it.
But I repeat what eybee said before: Omega is a modded/tweaked stock Rom. Nothing special. So search for a good Custom Rom here where you can be sure that it works on a N7000.

I don't think that a rom that has so much positive 5-star ratings throughout the whole community is something typical.
"Nothing special" is your opinion only.
Let me remind you that N7000 has an ICS rom on board, by default.
So, if you think more closely you will see that even a "stock" JB rom (only the best one admittedly) is much better than its stock rom.
I've been using different JB roms on my N7000, and personally I've seen nothing better than Omega, on N7100.
Of Course I will try it! I'm sure it will work like a charm!

The original note is actually more similar to the I9100 than the note 2, I would suggest that you wait for omega rom for the galaxy s2 to stabilize (it's already pretty stable, only messaging is problematic) and then request for a port from indie themselves

I tried Omega Rom and it does not work. So, I'm reverting back to my old rom.

Thanks to all who responded! But not wanting to antagonize already used the OMEGA ROM and it is not only not tweaks. Have you looked at the build.prop and init.d and it has nothing much different, it's a "miracle" that the dev does kkkkkkk
But ok!
Hello,
I am really having trouble choosing a ROM.
There are so many..
I currently have TsunamiX 5.2.
Which is the newest with a very good battery life, less lags and bugs, Rom's out there?
Gaming and "high" performance are not important for me.
Thank you

Yes, I tried it, its based on CM11 if im not wrong. But as I said before, Im on Macay ICS CM9 since more than a month now, this means I found this Rom very very useful. Before I flashed every 2-3 days, sometimes even twice a day, I tried many many Roms but this is just Great. Smooth, Stable, Bugless, with longest batery life comparing with Roms before. You can give a try, and you'll see. Hope to like it (if you decide to try it)
Good luck.

Exactly.. It's not like I opned a thread in which I asked "What is the best rom out there?".
Roms come in many shapes and specifications..
Nothing wrong in getting advices from more expirienced users
BTW, It is kinda anti-Intuitive to go back to ICS.. Any missing features from JB or Kitkat? Or does it feel the same?

Some things are missing, but for example "doubletap to sleep" you can use an xposed module for that and works great, Center clock and battery styles, and many other tweaks you can use Xblast tools (xposed module). The only thing I cant find was "Clear all button" on recent app list, but you can swipe one by one...
Im really satisfied with this Rom, based on features of Galaxy S i9000, (for me at least) this was best so far.

I can easily say, i recommend you this and that rom, but how do i know if it will work oke with your i9305.. I DON'T KNOW, so in the end you will be curious for others roms too, other than what i or anyone else recommended, and with your flashing experience that is getting better and better with every flashing/installation you make, you will probably flash them all anyway and try them out, so will you stick with the recommendation that i or anyone else makes, I DONT THINK SO
so will asking this question be very helpfull to you? probably not...
ALL of them roms have their own greatness in various aspects!! not every rom you will install will probably work without any kind of issue or bugs, as it is called. you need to find out what rom will be the best for daily use for you, and that is done by testing them f.e. each day try another rom, read the threads and analyze the roms features and users posts etc. there are a lot, so i would say get started!
HAPPY FLASHING!

Hi! I tried many roms from 4.3 to 4.4.4 and as i can say is, not because it is a good rom for me, it must fit for you.
I like the sammy roms because they work with my car audio. But also the CM-based roms because of speed.
So, maybe you see it's your choice and you can only install them and try them by yourself.
I'm on alliance 3.5 which is a sammy rom. And i got xposed framework installed. So i can change a bit more. You see, everyone is different.

Hey All, I'm new to Samsung Note 9 960f. I've been on Oneplus devices for thr last couple years with ease of root and ample kernel options. I've rooted my Note 9 with the stock OS. Now I'm looking for a decent kernel to go with the stock OS that can help with general tweaks. Any recommendations? Thanks!
Bump... Or in the Note 9 world people aren't really active on custom kernels?
Everyone has different preferences so there is no best...Take a look at the dev thread and try some custom stuff for yourself to see what works best for you.

How it fairs compared to stock?
Also on the topic, it's a bit sad how dead the development section of note 9 is. Lack of ROMs and total lack of kernels and a lot of time passed from release.

Definitely nice so far. I've felt a slight snappiness over stock (could be placebo). Also I was experiencing random reboots once / twice a day until this morning (on stock). This kernel has been stable so far, hoping to not experience those anymore. Btw, I haven't tweaked anything on the kernel yet except for anabling double tap to wake.
And I hear you, the development on this device is fairly dull. I guess users are happy with the phone as is, but rooting for me is a mandatory exercise. I've moved from a Oneplus 6 which was one of the most vibrant development communities.
Experience has been good decent far, but ofcourse with the usual set of gripes of adjusting on 8.1 from 9, etc.
Thanks!
Quick question. How do you know which kernel will work?
Running Team Exy Kings, current baseband N960FXXU2ZRL6.
Tried Beast and it boot-looped. Although, I did flash the zip in recovery. Do I need to use Odin?
