Hey guys,
Looks like I didn't do enough research before buying the Galaxy S5 in India and accidentally ended up with an Exynos (SM-G900H) device that receives no love!
Are there any ROMs for this device? I love Samsung hardware, but vanilla Android - especially now with Lollipop (and M) - can potentially make this device much much faster.
Any suggestions are welcome! Unfortunately, due to severe time constraints, I am no longer capable to build my own ROMs ..
Thanks!
My bad, apparently this is a well talked about issue. Not any less true that!

Samsungs latest move was to bring Jellybean to a range of devices, obviously high end ones like the Note and S2, but also the low end like the Galaxy Ace Plus, which when I last checked was worse in every way compared to my Galaxy S which still runs 2.3.6.
Samsung should have given us ICS, they should now try and get jellybean working
What do you think? Do you agree?
Yeah, sure it would be nice.. but our device is hella old so ofcourse they want ppl to buy new devices=$$$
But were lucky to have so many devs doing an amazing job by an ongoing work of making roms for this old device
Hey people. I am P9 user BUT I am not happy that your phones won't be updated to Nougat. This means my P9 won't get Android 8... This is ridiculous! Not even 2 years of OS updates?
So Report HERE to these muth*ducker from Huawei so they realize how stupid this is!
Product & Technical Support - Complaints - Maintenance period!
It's a joke with these specs phones to get only one Major Update!
Don't be silent people! You are the one who make these companies rich! And they treat you like this? After all you paid with hard earned money!
I'm not sure if they are going to care about, there are some compability issues with Android 7 and the Hardware of the Huawei P8, guess its too much afford for them.
But we wont even get EMUI 5, thid is kinda sad.
I just hope the CM13 Port will be finished soon.
But its worth a try..
Correct me if I'm wrong. I understand that it's because the chip of P8 (Mali-T628) does not support some features of Android N (like vulkan API). So it's not because they don't want to...
what is more interesting is that my old phones like Samsung Galaxy s4 mini and Galaxy ACE 2, which are pretty old phones, handle nougat via cyanogenmod, but in matter of P8 thare are compatibility issues? how is this possible?

Lots of people have Samsung phones so there is a "market" for keeping these going.
The source code is available.
They tend to use hardware that lots of other devices use.
Huawei use proprietary hardware on a smaller number of devices.

what market do you mean? galaxy ace 2 and s4mini ended with kitkat with message that their hw can not handle lollipop, so ridiculous considering that cynaogenmod 14 runs on both of them better than official stock rom 4-5 years ago, i think this is all bull*hit, if they wanted to bring us nougat, they could, how they even could release flagship knowing that they will not be able to release at least 2 updates? this is not normal

By "market" I meant for developers. I can get the latest CM running on my S2. I don't think Samsung should still be supporting it.
The only reason those phones are still running up to date software is that 3rd parties have developed for them.
With most android phones you can expect one major update and that is normal and has been the case for many years. If you don't like it you should get a nexus or at least a phone with a more common chipset with community support.
Huawei should just release all the code necessary to allow for 3rd party development on their phones, especially when they stop updating them.

They do not want to. Now they have an excuse.
Hey, i was just wondering why hasnt there been any stock android roms for the note 8 yet? I saw the s9 getting a resurrection remix. Is there any technical limitations thats holding back the development or do people just not care?
Because this phone has a pen ana that pen won't work without source code from Samfail

Stock Android - and especically things like RR actually have pretty solid stylus support. And there's plenty of apps that add features like pen-gestures and replicate the proprietary Samsung stuff.
The problem is likely more to do with the lack of treble support that the S9 has - which drastically simplifies the issue of dealing with proprietary firmware and API's.
And the fact that a large portion of Note 8 users have models with locked bootloaders, which prevent the usage of non-Samsung ROMS. There have been several threads detailing attempts at making AOSP or similar ROM's, but all have fallen silent without much to show in the way of progress:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/unofficial-lineageos-t3686026
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/bounty-aosp-roms-note8-t3686083
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/resurrection-remix-official-note-8-t3756351
Decoding and dealing with proprietary API's and firmware takes a lot of time and luck without sources which Samsung refuse to provide. And the pool of developers that seem interested in such a huge effort for the Note 8 seems to be shrinking.

I wouldn't say the situation is hopeless. Just pretty silent at the moment. Some of the groundwork seems to have been done particularly by @SaschaNes and the teams they're a part of. But they've been silent on actual progress of bootable builds for several months now. No clue if they're still working at it or not.
I would say AOSP or Lineage for the Note 8 is achievable it would just take reasons for developers to dedicate their time and effort. And currently, there aren't many for most. Few dev's actually have the device, and even fewer are interested in AOSP for it. Perhaps a bounty might lure one or two - but it would have to be sizeable, and considering the amount of people that seem to have bought this device for the Samsung features - that's going to be hard to organize.

This, is the reason the note line, for a while now, has not had the development other Samsung phones have. Add to that , snapdragon and its lockdown , makes it difficult to see the note series as a custom powerhouse.
Sent from my Galaxy Note8 using XDA Labs
Which is a shame, considering the legacy of the Note 3,4 and 5 which continue to have AOSP roms built for them to this day - which has drastically extended the lifespan beyond Samsungs woeful EOL. Sadly devs simply don't seem to have the motivation or time to deal with jumping through the increasingly convoluted hoops constantly being errected by google and OEMs.
Because the note 8 is so locked down
Do I have your attention now?
Good.
Hi guys. We were discussing on our A6 group that the regular 7870 A6 gets very little love.
Mainly because it's not a very good phone. But that's why it needs more love than its getting, so that the experience of owning it doesn't suck as much xD
Well, I happened to mention that I love my S8 ROM for the J6 because it is fully featured. Even with Pie released and even with 64bit vendor, I always return to my S8+ ROM. I just love it so much.
So, I offered the opportunity to port it to the A6.
Now, there are a couple of things I need to make clear before actually doing this.
As of now, porting ROMs in Pie is a bit difficult because you can't deodex the whole firmware properly, that is why I have not really done any Pie porting.
This port would be Oreo!
Deodexing Oreo has 0 problems and I can easily try to fix problems that happen due to pop up.
So, what would be the benefits?
Imagine being able to use edge screen! Infinity wallpapers! Smart select, bixby vision, scroll capture!
Sure, you don't have the latest OS, but I think having Oreo is good enough
That being said, I do need some active testers. I don't own an A6 so porting will require somebody with the device to test.
If you are interested, leave your comment here and I will contact you when possible to try to make this a reality.
I'll leave you guys with some captures to see if it motivates you a little

A6 a little bit better because exynos base, but the siblings (A6+) far more worse because snapdragon base :silly: .
my target port very limited..only A8star, A9 2018. i have some thought also to port from s8/s9/note8/note9, but all those series must be come from china open/hongkong region (snapdragon) which could lead me to getting more problems.
after seeing that you successful porting from S8 oreo maybe i also will try from s8 hongkong region
currently i also running A9 2018 port and all bugs has been solved (from released version in here).
the feature almost same from your port but i don't have edge lighting

With a full deodex, you can port no matter the SoC. I've ported both SD and Exynos to Mediatek Sammy phone. I think in general, Samsung likes to use very general lib stuff

i don't think so...even in kernel, how it load stuffs, fstab, etc,, SD and exynos is different. maybe if to mediatek it will work as you said, but if from exy to SD or vice versa it will not work.
regarding lib probably until oreo, starting on pie seems so many changes
Will AOD work? If so I would glad to return to Oreo

Hello guys,I would like to know if the Rom is suitable for the Samsung Sm-A600FN
Complete noob
Could I flash it like stock firmware? And could I obtain camera 2 api? I have A6+ sm-a605fn, it's worth nothing to me if I can't get camera 2 api, so I am more than willing to try, except that I"m a noob and have no clue what deodex is.
Happy to help
Would it be suitable for the SM-A600T1? If so I would be more than willing to aid you in your development and test it for you.
Hi does anyone know if the Exynos Galaxy S21 Ultra will be getting any other third party roms (EG : Pixel Experience or Lineage OS) in the near future? As I’m getting sick and tired of One UI. I do understand and acknowledge that rooting and modding android devices are more complex than prior devices but it would be nice to be rid of One UI on a great android device like the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Most likely since it may take some time. I am using S9+ and it's still getting ROMs even today. The same goes for S4 as well.
