[How-to] Volume Buttons - control media not ringtone (lolipop non-rooted) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

I searched a bit and took me a while to find this. Maybe this post will help others.
Do you wish the volume buttons on your s5 would control media and not ringtone? This is standard on many custom roms like cm and makes much more sense.
There is only one way that I know of to accomplish this on stock lolipop without root.
Rocker Locker
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomwandroid.rockerlocker
It's a small app that runs in the background upon startup. It gives you control back over your volume buttons. I mean who really needs to adjust ringer volume on the fly... Isn't it best to just set it.. Leave it.. Then use toggles for silent/vibrate. Not to mention your phone in pocket accidently getting its ringer turned down.. Not cool.
I consider this app one of my top 5 essential apps on a stock lolipop s5. It's like its not even there.
Hope you enjoy.
Let me know how you like it.

[Q] stock music app in costum roms?

Well, I had enough with my stock rom,
The only thing that stop me from moving on to costume roms is the stock music player.
He is a bit ugly and the sound quality is not that good but he have some great features
Like controlling the volume without opening the screen and the small control menu
In the lock screen witch enable u to do pretty much anything without passing the lock screen.
Both of them r vey useful (like when u in the gym/working out etc..)
So….
1. Is it possible to import it from the stock rom to other costume roms ??
2. Since I think I know the answer (NOOO ) anybody know another music app that can do this stuff?
Thanks…

Do you mean using the volume rocker? I guess that works on every single app

I believe you mean the notification widget? Can't recall the controls being on the lockscreen in stock.. Most apps these days have that function too. 4.2+ ROMs do put your music controls on the lockscreen though! In in CM based ROMs you can also skip to the next song by holding the VOL+ button while the screen is off.
I personally use Google Play Music, and it has all the functions I need. (except for a sleep timer...)
Hope this helps!
I doubt it since alternatives from poweramp to fusion music player all annihilate with no competition the stock music app...

[Q] Which app can I use to set volume for specific apps when launched?

Hello. I am looking for an app I can use to auto set the volume for Scout, (my gps app), to high when started, then revert the volume back to the way it was when the app is stopped.
Is there anything out there like that? There should be, right?
I currently use Volume Locker just to lock my ringer volume, but it appears that app doesn't have the functionality I'm looking for.

[Q] Unwanted Media volume change during notifications

I've been looking for a fix for this for the last 3 generation of android phones I've owned. Is there a way to fix this for rooted phones yet? There seems to be very little discussion about this topic. I've been muting the notification sound; but, that doesn't prevent the volume from going down while listening to music or watching a movie.
When you change the volume it will be automatic depending on what app you have opened. If you want to adjust a specific volume you can hit the arrow on the volume panel to expand it. Some mods allows it to always be expanded.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I was actually hoping for a non-rooted fix to prevent it from happening in the first place. I tried looking for an exposed framework mod; but, wasn't sure which one would do it, if any. I did find the simplest non-root solution below (if anyone's interested):

Volume control for notifications?

New to this forum so I hope I'm in the right place to ask this stupid question! I have always had a Samsung but recently upgraded to the Nexus 6 so I'm pretty used to android operating system. But, for some reason I cannot find how to adjust the volume for phone ring and notifications separately! Is this the norm for Nexus 6 and if so what can I do about it? Thanks for your help in advance!!!!
Yes that is standard for nexus. That's why there isn't a separate notification slider in settings. .
One way around it is root, install Xposed, and install gravity box. That gives lots of customization options, including splitting notification and ringer volumes apart, like Samsung.

Separate volume control for notifications and flashlight.

I am testing out a Moto Z Force (coming from a Nexus 6P) to see if I can handle switching without having root. And a couple of things I am missing already. Is there anyway to break out the volume controls and have a separate control for ringtone and a separate one for your notifications like sms? I hate having the same volume control for ringtone and sms. Next, I miss my "power menu". Is there anyway to get the flashlight option by pressing and holding the power button down?
I know these are not big deals...just seeing if I can fix them
@darkcyber20 I don't know of a way without having root privileges to ruin the volume controls.
For the flashlight though, Moto has baked in a gesture for quickly enabling it. It's a double chop motion. Look in the Moto app, in the section called Actions.

Well, crap! Why do these phone manufactures think people want to have the same volume level for their ringtone as for their text app? Thanks for the information! The ringtones and notifications sounds are considerable lower than my Nexus 6P

I personally hate the separate ringtone/notification volume controls. That was one thing that seriously annoyed me about the Sammy phones I have owned. I'd lower the volume with the side buttons then get blasted by a notification tone.

I like separate volume controls. I use an app to set the volumes/vibration appropriately for the situation.
Also, it should be easy to allow the volumes to be linked if desired. Someday we will have the best of both worlds.

The app I use is called Audio Profiles. Unfortunately it does not have the ability to set different volumes for the ring tone and the notification unless the phone allows it. I had the LG G5 and the Note 7 (for a few days) and it worked with both of those. It won't work with the Moto Z family. My comment that you quoted simply meant that it shouldn't be that hard for the software to allow either separated or linked ring and notification tones.
However, my notification tone is OK. There is a known issue with the notification tones being hosed. It seems to be sort of random. When I was trying to select a tone, I could not hear some of them so I selected one that was a good volume. Not sure if you are able to pick one that sounds OK. Some folks can and some cannot. Hopefully this will be resolved with the next update.
Also, Audio Profiles is not perfect. Sometime it doesn't give you the profile you selected. It is better than 95% with my experience which isn't bad. I had a hard time finding one that worked at all. I used to use Tasker, but gave that up.
