[Q] New to z3c - What to do first! - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello folks,
I bought a z3c today and it will be arriving by the end of week or next week, and i am trying to get ready for when the phone gets here!
So, what the first thing i should do when receive the phone?
I am thinking in root and backing up the DRM keys just to be safe! Any suggestions about it?
Is there a way i can verify if i did it right?
After that i will try to stick with stock sony rom, i am pretty sure i wont happy enought so i will have to flahs custon ROMs.. but i will really try to stick with stock. I am tired of having "small" but anoying bugs with me phone because of custom ROMs.
Any suggestion about it also?
Well, i guess that is it.
Thanks to all!!

First thing you should do is get a tempered glass screen protector for the front, and TP protector for the back (to prevent sliding on smooth surfaces). Or, get a case if you prefer. Then, get a charging dock or magnetic charger because you will want to minimize the number of times you open/close the USB flap. Finally, root and enjoy!
Though, I'm finding that new phones (and apps) are increasingly making root access less necessary for me. I figure I'll wait until my warranty expires before trying to root this one. It's almost perfect already.

Any recommendations for protectors front/rear or are they all about the same quality?

Rule of thumb: Don't spend less than $10 USD on a screen protector and you'll be fine. There's a thread in the accessories sub-forum about screen protectors with better reviews and suggestions than I could give.

In the accessories section you'll really find everything you need.
The first reply on your question really summed it up mostly, as for the software side, you really don't have to back up your drm keys, you can't lose them by accident unless you attempt to unlock your bootloader. Unlocking your bootloader isn't necessary to aquire root, only to use another kernel so you should be just fine.

Thank you all!!
I am looking right now for an magnect adapter! or cable.
I think the adpatrer makes more sense as i can bring it with me when needed!
As for the DRM, i will probaly change roms to try it out, so thats why i will back them up!

I also got my Z3C 2 days ago....
Earlier I was using a N4 & was planning to root my Z3C ASAP but after using it i feel i can live without rooting it....
I ordered a magnetic cable & a case initially, and ordered matte screen guard instead of tempered glass (i may buy it after a few months)

You're not able to calibrate the screen. The only thing I can say is try flashing a different ROM, if you're stock try flashing the FroYo rom. Hopefully you're not rooted and still under warranty, its possible the touchscreen was broken upon impact.

I don't know. The only time I have ever had issues like that is when holding it in my hand parts of my hand touch the glass rim of the phone. Even the non-screen black parts are part of the touchscreen so I assume that it can get confused as to what you're doing during an unintentional multi-touch
Moved to the Q&A forum (it's for questions, not general info).
How do I get this sent to google/htc to fix my screen?
I need a good case and a screen protector. I live in UK so uk sites please
ebay its a good place
i buy a screen for 1 dolar and case for 4 i guess pretty nice screen i didnt notice ui have screen protector and came from china and fix perfect on my n1
bought this case http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HARD-RUBBER-C...2?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhonesCasesPouches
and about a month later it snapped!
Is this any good? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLACK-AQUA-So...8?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhonesCasesPouches
I need it for it to be not plastcy and £5 or under
NOOOOOOO!
Well I guess it's too late, but you don't want a third-party case for this thing. They all fail. I took mine off because it doesn't even snap closed, and just falls off if I drop the phone. You get what you pay for
I deffinitely know how you feel though, I dropped mine the first night I had it. Probably shouldn't have had it out with alcohol in me, but that's another story XD
You can buy nexus accessories straight from HTC, but I don't know what their policy is with UK shipping, as I don't know where they ship from.

[Q] Hardware fixes - anyone tried...

I am the proud owner of a new I9000, the b*&tard love child of 2 ebay purchases. Just wondering whether the leftover entrails are worth keeping. Specifically:
- broken USB port. I have a replacement part and looks easy enough to de/solder. Anyone tried??
- vol down button. Looks a nightmare to try to replace. Anyone tried??
- chip in screen. Not worried about it being perfect but its too deep to polish out and when you put a screen protector on it a bubble appears. Any ideas?
- chrome bezel. WOWOW didn't Samsung make it a separate element easy to replace...?? Has anyone done these successfully (first time, every time), or is there any way to make it look good? Other than hiding with a case which I have already done!
Thank you for all, any, or even no help.

look at manuals and guides in My Android collections for your answers
If you're handy with a soldering iron and have a good one (not one of those fire-starting ones that plugs straight into the wall with a handle like five inches away from the tip) then the micro USB and button shouldn't be too tricky to replace. The button isn't that terribly important anyway depending on how you use your phone.
As far as the screen chip, I'd be tempted to use one of the screen protector methods using alcohol, perhaps the alcohol would fill the gap and stay there? Probably wouldn't work, but it might be worth a try.
I replaced the chrome bezel with a cheap, crappy gold one from china (and a gold battery cover) and it's totally pimp. The bezel is actually the very last piece in the phone though. You have to take EVERYTHING apart to get it out, it's a huge pain. I ended up slipping with a knife while I was doing it and cutting the vibrator off so I spent a few weeks waiting for the replacement touch button/vibrator/microphone board to come in.

So I cracked my screen...

I dropped my phone today and the screen cracked. It's still usable, just has two ugly cracks along the front. Anyone know of a easy way to replace the screen?

Might as well have Motorola replace it, it costs $175 for a new device, but you have to mail them you're busted one first.

Agreed. I had a similar issue and had an overall good experience with Motorola repair. Took about ten days from start to finish.
Do I just go to there website? I don't have insurance.

Pretty much. Start at their online repair site:
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...ZS8xNDUxMjUxNzM4L3NpZC9zSnk3cDJGbQ==#/service
So I contacted Motorola and they will fix it for $175 and if I want it back fast I would have to pay another $40 in s/h. With that amount of money, I could just buy a brand new one for another $50. Any thoughts?

Yes it's 250 on Amazon. Probably a better choice.
Also do yourself a favor and buy a case
OK but now I'm in a dilly of a pickle... I have the option to buy the 6p. My concerns are that the 6 isn't gonna receive anymore love now that it's going on two years old. Would it be wise to purchase the 6 again? Or should I just upgrade to the 6p? I love the 6, I do. But...and yes there's always a but lol. But the 6p intrigues me. I've researched and I know its not much of an upgrade but I love the thought of the fingerprint scanner and the overall look of it. But it is slightly smaller in size and I'm a big dude...but (there it goes again), I could always get a case to make up the difference... Anyways, I would love you guys feedback on my first world dilemma lol. Thanks!
get the 6 and save the money for the next nexus 6 upgrade before the end of next year with a proper cpu like the 820

Just an update if anyone cares lol. I went ahead upgraded to the 6p. Farewell my fellow shamu-ers. If anyone is interested in purchasing my 6, pm me. Good day.
If you still have the phone and aren't afraid of breaking it you could try a glass only replacement. I have never done it before until yesterday. I ordered the wire from eBay and made a simple jig to hold the wire so I had both hands. I successfully removed the glass. Hooked it back up still works. Am waiting for the new glass and loca glue (didn't order it until I removed old glass so wasn't waisting money if I broke it. I did practice on 2 junk phones first. Only one of the test screens worked before and it still worked after. YouTube videos is what I followed.

This. It's not worth the extra $400 for the 6P just for a bit more dev love.

Would you care to share your links in what you did?
If better camera and finger print sensor and more comfortable phone in hand is whats important to you i would dive in. I buy 3 phones a year so i can understand you wanting to upgrade even if its not that big of an upgrade . But at this point there won't be any giant leaps from year to year .

Here is a link to glass and t3 torque screwdriver. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=361337407585&alt=web
I got all the parts on ebay. Used the cheapest I could find from us sellers. You need a loca glu. I used a uv flashlight I got on eBay to cure the glue. Have to put it on all parts of glass for about 30 seconds each spot.
Here is the link to the wire I used
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=111281188717&alt=web
I drilled 2 holes in a 2x10 block of wood about 8" apart and put the wire holding sticks in the holes. Watch YouTube videos to see how to take phone apart
It worked pretty good for me. I ended up with 2 small air bubbles under the glass and glass is slightly lifted on one side. Cannot notice once in cheap tpu case.
I used a locktite glue that takes 24hrs to cure to glue screen back to bezel. Cleaned with close pins while curing. Tried double sided tape didn't hold, krazy glue dried to hard didn't hold screen to bezel. I think all my trial and error and scraping and reglueing the bezel is why it is lifted.
Sorry took so long to reply. Just glued the screen on 2 days ago.
And I am in no way saying this is easy just that it was no where near as hard as I thought it would be. You could easily completely break screen trying this
Update. Screen works fine but... The locktite worked the best but is coming undone again. I believe I may have had the loca glu to thick. And made the screen thicker in doing so. And when I put it together it is pressing out. Am thinking of reseperating and reglueing. Any advice is welcomed

Well, I dropped my N6 and broke screen for 2nd time. Alternatives?

Damage is done. Figured I may take this "opportunity" to try another device. Obviously unlockable bootloader is required. I'll dig around on some of the other forums, but wanted to ask here if anyone has experience with the Moto X Pure or Nexus 5X? Those are the two that have peaked my interest so far. Thanks for any beta you can provide.
The Nexus will be more frequently updated than the Motorola device. However, other than the screen being an IPS LCD, the X Pure I feel is the better device all around.
i would suggest you get this..

Lol i was going to do the same joke
From my personal story i dropped my n6 one time doing my cardio jumping rope
Phone's screen just fall right on the floor tile... I immediately check
Camera ok, screen ok etc...
1 day after ive finally see that the top bar speaker, you know the little plastic thing, was pushed. So pushed that now the top bar speaker is nearly at the same level of the frame... And led still works
I think the ringke Max cover saved my screen and I'm loving much more my n6 and his scars.
Ps: I've by a Bluetooth headset after that
Thank you I've you read this entirely

I would go with a 5x. I have had both and I currently use the 5x. It is a great device and I would recommend it to anyone. With a good custom ROM its bullet proof. Unless you drop it of course lol.

Yeah, I need something like that. I've actually cracked the screen 3 times. All of which were during periods I had the case off. Took if off to clean and lost a couple of the buttons in the case and just hadn't gotten around to ordering one.
So anyway, I just went ahead and ordered the Moto X Pure. I'll fix the N6 and maybe sell it to get a 5x too. Thanks for the feedback.
I just dropped my nexus 6, only 1/3 of the screen is lit and there's just a bunch of lines. I don't have enough money to buy a phone with equal specs. So how hard is it to replace the digitizer?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530AZ using XDA-Developers mobile app
If you had a bad digitizer, your display would still function but touch inputs wouldn't register properly if at all. The AMOLED display is what is wrong with your device. Since digitizer and display are fused together, replacing the complete assembly is actually rather easy. However, replacement screens are not cheap. In fact, they aren't much less expensive than sending the Nexus in to Motorola and having them replace the screen for $175.
I'd like to chime in and make a suggestion.
Forearm curls.
This should help increase your grip so it won't be so easy to drop the phone.
Granted, it's an "over time solution". However, it should save some money in the long-run from lost/damaged phones.
That, or just superglue it to your palm.

It is quite easy to replace. There are plenty of video's on Youtube that show you how it works.
I bought a digitizer two month ago via Amazon. Had to release ~26 screws. Most sensitive part was to detach the connectors (very fragile!).
It went quite ok and I am now very happy with a full functional Nexus 6.
The digitizer did cost me $160,-. Quite some money, but better than a new investment in a brand new phone (A-brand).

I've repaired some phones in my time, but never in a phone that was pressed together with clips. I wasn't about to spend that money and possibly screw up. I went ahead and bought a HTC Desire Eye for $120. Maybe some day I'll fix the Nexus but no today

I broke one of these and I feel your pain. I ended up just buying another from Amazon and left the broken one in my drawer. If this other one manages to break I'll probably grab a 5x or something budget. I can't be bothered to pay $175 for the repair when Moto has awful customer support now and the phone is only worth about 200 total.

shockproof case for letv x800

Hello!
After droping my awesome phone on concrete and getting a cracked screen (ordered replacement+tools+custom sticker with double sided adhesive tape) i thought it would be good to get serious protection so I found this on aliexpress: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Dual..._9&btsid=eb99811d-23ea-49e1-b393-8c7a499fd83f
I am not sure if it's compatible with x800 - judging by the pictures it's not - but the seller assured me it is compatible. Maybe seller posted wrong photos - I hope!
Anyway I will get back on this to tell you all if it's OK.
In the mean time I found another one which seems to offer a decent level of protection (ordered it too): http://www.aliexpress.com/item/HC02..._9&btsid=18405c4f-0d4e-4585-b965-d67ca7d557e3
So fellow owners of x800.. take good care of your phones - they are very fragile.. the screen at least.
Later edit.. thanks to user nitalium for posting links with screen replacement. Those were very useful as I learned what to order and how to repair my phone.

No problem.,..i'm using transformers silicon rubber case now
https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/7803311499.html?orderId=76172324771634
..more protection even it is not suits well on screen after tempered glass applied but for the edge it does....
cheers...
Thanks guys, I myself was trying to find a more robust case than the available silicone ones... and haha, they still hasn't taken off "Le One Pro X800" from the first case suggestion
I am going for the transformer type, too, although the first one would have been more to my taste.
In China I have been using this metal frame. It is of very good quality, protects the phone properly, but the downside is that the GPS signal doesn't get through as well as without. Highly suggested, except for the GPS problem.
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09.2.0.0.LFZ2iS&id=531410223896&_u=11seifcq44a8
Maybe you can find it on Aliexpress...
Surprisingly that oneplus one rugged armor tire pattern case suits very well for our Le 1 Pro..just the cons is
1)cannot use earphone if apply this case ( hole position is the same but not so deep)
2) have to press at the case a bit hard for volume & power button (just ignore it because we still can use vol up&down at settings & also double tap to wake up the screen)
3) rear camera hidden a bit but still can use
4) cannot use torch light & flash
Pros
1) can using IR blaster very well
2) shockproof case , protect your phone even u are not apply tempered glass (mine using it)
3) Speaker holes & charging port at a good position with this case (love it very much)
Now, i'm not so worried if my phone drop at the floor...cheers..
Where did u applied the double sided tape when you fixed your phone, on sides or wher?
