Hey all,
Thought I'd let those of you that have an AT&T Tab S 8.4 know that Lollipop has been released today. Happened to be on the AT&T Software update page here: http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB425812&cv=820 and noticed it listed the update.
Manually checked for updates on my tablet, it's downloading now. My 8.4 on AT&T is totally stock.
Downloading now... 1.1GB
manually checking shows nothing for me
Mine wasn't too laggy after the upgrade. But as I know from places like XDA usually a very good idea to do a full system wipe which I did.
What I am most thankful for is there is now an option to remove that Samsung screen that has those Samsung widgets that go full page. Can't recall what it is called. Yeah I know could have got rid of that using a 3rd party launcher in 4.4 but so happy Samsung put option there to disable it finally. To get rid of it, long press blank space like you were going to add a widget, then click Home Screen Settings, then uncheck "Content Home Screen".
Has anyone who rooted with kingroot updated? I'm assuming it'll kill root, just curious if I need to unroot prior, or if the update will still install. I'll post the answer tomorrow after I update.
I've had some Samsung devices which will update while rooted, and some that will not.

Not sure it will work.
Maybe try to adapt the method given by ashyx here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/guide-how-to-root-tripping-knox-kitkat-t3129484
It worked successfully for me on the T800

I'm rooted with Kingroot and it's currently downloading the update. If you load Xposed Framework and Wanam Xposed, under Security hacks there's a setting for Fake System Status that allows you to set it to Original.
I'll follow up when the download finishes.
Update: The download completed but the install failed and then got stuck in a boot loop. Ended up having to go to the Samsung place at Best Buy to have them re-flash KitKat. Now the tab is telling me I have to wait 24 hours to check for updates. I'm sure everything will be good now that I'm back on a factory image.

Turn off automatic date and time and manually advance it by a day, and try again.
When they re-flashed KitKat did it wipe your tablet? The OTA failed me when rooted, failed me after un-installing adaway and un-rooting and removing KingUser. I cannot do a firmware upgrade via Kies 3 as it's not available. I cannot do an emergency firmware recover via Kies 3 as it's not soft bricked. I can't find either the KitKat or the Lollipop firmwares online anywhere... Currently I have a tablet, works fine, I did a factory reset (in the back of my mind knew this wouldn't work) that has a custom status and won't take the OTA.
If anyone knows where I can find the KitKat firmware, or the OTA, please let me know.
Or maybe someone could grab the OTA off their tablet after downloading prior to updating and share the wealth with the community???
Has any kingroot user tried triangle away, unroot via kinguser, and take the OTA?
Also just realized that if I can fail the OTA, I can obviously download it... Where do I grab it from if I wanted to flash it with odin or sideload?

OTA came down successfully while not rooted. The reflash at Best Buy didn't wipe it.
As far as I know, the factory images for the AT&T versions aren't available anywhere, or at least I've been unable to find them. They obviously exist because I'm pretty sure the guy at Best Buy used Kies to flash with an image that's available to him from Samsung.
I re-rooted last night in the attempt of using triangle away to clear customs status, then un-rooting. This was odd because device status still shows custom but download mode shows official and Knox is 0.
While I was briefly rooted again I downloaded the OTA in the hopes of copying it to my PC and updating via ADB Sideload... Couldn't find it. If anyone knows where Samsung puts these I'll grab it and post it to share.
im not rooted, performed a factory reset, and my device still doesn't see any updates. Can somebody provide a link to the ROM?

The OTA gets downloaded to /cache. If you are rooted you can see it. But the OTA is not a complete ROM, just a differential to the ROM you have.

Turns out there is a imei problem with the tablet that is preventing the download. My imei number is paired with a IPhone 4. Anyway will take a few day to fix then the upgrade should work.
I get the same. I wiped my device hoping for a different outcome, and still no update.
I found this in the thread below.
It is an old tread but I'll comment anyway. SM-T807 is the 3G version while SM-T805 is the LTE version. Both Hardware (CPU/GPU) and comms modules are different. So 805 LTE (which has Lollipop) firmware won't work for 807 (no Lollipop is currently available nor Samsung plans to release soon).

John.
After not being able to take the OTA after rooting, even after un rooting, not being able to find the OTA and sideload (not in /cache), and not able use Kies or Odin I finally took it to the Samsung kiosk at my bestbuy.
They reflashed 4.4.2, didn't wipe anything, and immediately downloaded and successfully installed the lollipop update after getting home and on WiFi.
Just don't mention that you rooted ;')

Update: TowelRoot does not seem to work with this update!
also got it. its a 220+mb update.
I just got this update as well. I got the message that says it is downloaded and wants to install. I am rooted with TWRP installed now. I have read that some people have had problems and been bricked when they tried to install some updates in the past. For this reason, I went into the hidden menu and disabled OTAs. Guess that didn't work. Has anyone else taken this update being rooted with twrp successfully?
You won't be able to rooted or with custom recovery. Check out the meta-inf script. It will fail if any fishy is going on with your device. I'm going to edit it later tonight so I can post the flash able zip for us to update. All its really updating is the radio.img and a few other apks as well as some security updates.
Checked no update for me. In the Houston area. But read online it was for the VoLTE update and In Flight text messaging

Once we flash and update, towel root will work again? Someone said they couldn't get towel root to work after the update. For now I'm just playing around with cm11. If someone would get it or another ROM working pretty good, I'd just use it. I had planned on selling the flex and use my bump to get a nexus 6 through t-mobile. But if things get rolling a little around here. I'm happy with my flex. I wish there was more I could do but its over my head. My previous two devices were a Nexus and HTC they were easy compared to this.
How do you disable OTA updates?
Sent from my LG-D959 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I pulled out all the "abort install if blah blah blah" lines from the Meta-Inf folder and all the lines to install the priv-apps and just for my sake i took out the priv-apps since it would replace with .odex and im deodexed. Checked the updater script for any other "abort or security" crap. Didnt see anything else. So i repacked the update into a flashable.zip and flash away. It adds this really cool "SECURITY ERROR" Under the LG logo on boot up. And transforms the device into a temporary outrageously expensive paper weight.
So i rebooted into twrp and restored. So far a no go. I think after digging through it and seeing what all is in it.....im just gonna make a flashable of the new radio.img incase it upgrades ours and gets better service or picks up those techno tunes from Venus.
I had 2 back to back updates, but I ended with D95920m.
I accidentally downloaded the update. I actually don't even remember doing it. I just saw that it was successfully downloaded. It hasn't updated yet. Is there anything i can do to get rid of it? I don't want to lose root. I don't have a custom recovery installed. I only have root access as that is typically all that I need.
Also, any chance anyone has tried to use towelroot on this after it breaks root? EDIT: Never mind, just saw the OP's update that towelroot will not work. F this. I need to get rid of this phone.
I renamed the file that it downloaded, so at least now it is just asking me to download the update again. I also installed a TWRP in the mean time. I guess I just need to disable updates now.
I am in the same situation... Can you please tell me where the update is downloaded to? I need to rename mine as well in case I were to accidentally hit install update.
How do you get the update notification to go away?
I have seen the option to hide it in one of the xposed modules, but can't remember which one...

The Update should download under Cache or Data/Cache. It should work disabling OTA updates in the hidden menu.
3845#*959#, the go to WLAN test --> OTA Settings and disable

I dont have lgdmsclient.apk either. I have the T-mobile (d959) model.
I rooted my phone a while back (Note 3) and have Safestrap on it. I checked with root verify and it says it is rooted.
I want to be able to do OTA updates as I don't really want to be rooted any longer or have safestrap on my phone.
Is there a EASY way to remove both/all of it so I no longer get the safestrap screen when it comes on that has the unlocked symbol at the bottom of it. And no longer have a rooted phone ?
Easy way, preferred as I stated before..
Saw this and giving it a try ! ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/help/4-4-4-ota-failed-27-t2949069
Well used Super Su, it says I am no longer rooted. But safestrap still shows on start up
And after I did that I checked for a update. It shows v4.2.2 and no available updates ? WTH.... It showed a update before...
Idk either I unrooted and uninstalled safestrap and factory reset my update trys 2times both times says updated failed
is safestrap realy there. i had the same problem and installed traingle away and it removed the safestrap screen.
To Un-root your phone
You'll need to use Odin. After using Odin it will still say custom after the first boot, just re-boot and you'll be good.
I used Super SU, and unrooted. Did check and it says I am not rooted.
But I think the reason it is failing to install 4.4.4 OTA update, is that the safestrap is interfering with the installation..
So if I want to get safestrap completely off of my phone how do I do that > I have been searching the forum, and still searching,,,

Lol you might as well not be on xda if you going to go stock with no root. 4.4.4 OTA official is like a death sentence right now. And you will be hitting your forhead wishing you didnt do that later.
But to answer your question, just uninstall safestrap from the app, and use supersu for full unroot. Or just Odin back with NC2 tar files from the threads. Odin back to NC2 should be no problems with the OTA

But now I just want to be stock, and knew all the people on this forum do it a lot. So this is where I asked for help...

That is kinda weird in SuperSU did you disable OTA updates?!? But y you want stock 4.4.4 rom, as AT&T note 3 users there may not b a root or boot rom walk around for long time maybe even tell lollipop 5.0 or maybe never cause note 3 has been dead silence since 4.4.4 released almost like people stop using this device an goin to the note 4... Hopefully there will b a note 3 bootloader exploit for AT&T an verizon but idk again looks like main force is note 4
Well not sure how to fix it.
I have unrooted, removed safestrap.
Checked with root app and it says it is not rooted.
But it still won't update.
Took to AT&T tech center after on-line help from them didn't help. He was not able to update it. So I went to Bestbuys Samsung tech section. They hooked it up to their Smart update software, and it would not allow to be updated either. They said it was either rooted or had a foreign version of software on it. Or one of the software apps I had installed was messing it up.
So I again did a hard reset all the way back to stock ? And after setting up as a new phone I did a check for update 4.4.2 was on it and it said no update available......
SO WHAT IS GOING ON ? Is there a 4.4.4v that I can install with the odin, so that hopefully I can get over this bump..,, ?
Have the VZW G2 rooted on the previous OTA update, now starting to see the nag screen to update again.
Last time, I reverted to stock and had to set up everything again from scratch. I needed root so did that but now at the same point again.
Is there an easier way to update, without having to wipe everything and start over again?
TIA
I was rooted and just installed the update. Went through fine and kept root. All my had to do was install/update xposed framework and reboot to get my modules working again. Aside from xposed I had no modified system files and stock recovery. I had not uninstalled any pre-installed apps, just have a few frozen with titanium.

Thanks mhirsh, you nailed it. I had to restore the stock wifi hotspot app, do OTA update, then do the steps for wifi hotspot again.
It's actually the only root feature I've used for quite a while now. The root uninstallers I've tried have all failed to remove bloatware. I'll be looking at other root benefits to get more use out of it.
And to think I spent days restoring my phone from scratch last update ... lol.

You should never attempt OTA unless you are stock (having only root will be ok).
Yeah i had forgotten i had performed those mods after i rooted. Initially i thought i was just stock and rooted. Thankfully pretty easy to go back to stock.
I currently have a rooted stock 4.4.4 on my S5 (G900A) along with xposed framework. Two days ago, AT&T downloaded the Lollipop OC4 rom and since then it has been prompting me to let it install the downloaded update. I have been telling it not to since from what I gathered I will be losing root and there is currently no way to root the OTA OC4 for G900A.
Problem: Today, the OTA update popped up again and said it will automatically install the update in 30 seconds whether or not if I want it, which prompted me to turn the phone off. Turning the phone back on results in the same results in the same autoupdate in 30 seconds prompt in less than a minute after the boot up. How can I stop the OTA from pushing itself through at this point so I can stay on the 4.4.4 with root. Note that the phone is still on warranty and the Knox is not tripped and I don't want to trip it either.
I have reversed the Xposed overwrite for the status so now the phone is no longer showing official but custom instead both during the power up and in the device menu. I have also rebooted into recovery and cleared cache. Neither one of them prevented the OTA from telling me that it will auto update in 30 seconds at the following reboot.
Can someone help me stop this OTA so I can keep my current 4.4.4 with root?
Thanks

You missed my question. The update has already downloaded and gone through 2 days of grace period. Now it is giving 30 sec to force install itself, not to force download. I know the download fails if the device is in custom state instead of official state, and I am at a point beyond your experience.
Can someone with AT&T Rom please help me identify what exactly the item that I need to freeze is called? Thanks.

Sweet! Thank you I just did a quick reboot and with Titanium Backup Pro froze it, and did a reboot. Although the force update gave me the 30 sec warning while I was trying to navigate Titanium Backup, I did not get a notification after freezing it and rebooting. Now, I got to play the waiting game and hope that one of the devs can figure out how to root OC4 / stock Lollipop on S5 G900A.

Now, I got to play the waiting game and hope that one of the devs can figure out how to root OC4 / stock Lollipop on S5 G900A.

If your looking to get on rooted 5.0 then you can follow the above thread...it will also not update the bootloader so you can still downgrade if needed.
The update will not install if you're rooted, but the process is just annoying as ever. If you've frozen the updater apk with Titanium BackUp then you'll be fine. I froze that back in October of 2014 and haven't been bothered since. Every so often a security notice flashes in the statusbar but nothing else.
I have a TMobile Note 4 SM-N910T. It's currently on 5.1.1 stock and I just got the OTA Marshmallow update notification. I'd like to try Marshmallow out, but if I allow the OTA update, will I be able to root it later? Or is 6.0.1 unrootable (for now)? If I root it now (before updating to MM) will I still get the OTA update? And will it still be rooted after the update? So many questions!
ota then root
I OTA'ed, now the phone randomly reboots several times a day, and some apps don't work correctly. Great.
factory reset.
*sigh* I was afraid you were going to say that. Now the problem is backing it up. I have a Titanium Backup Pro license, but I only use it on my old rooted GS2. The Note 4 is not rooted so TB won't run on it. All the rooting tutorials say "back up your phone before you root" but you need root to run TB. Chicken or egg? I guess I could try Samsung Kies, don't know if it will back up everything. My photos are backed up to Google Photos, I guess everything else is replaceable, but I would really rather not have to reinstall all my apps one by one after a factory reset.
That brings up another question: when you to go Settings/Backup and Reset, I have "Backup my data" set to On and linked to my Google account, but nowhere can I find documentation of exactly WHAT gets backed up or to WHERE (it says to "Google servers" but what the heck does that mean? I can't find it on my Google Drive or anywhere else on my Google account dashboard.)
I do greatly appreciate your help, by the way.
You could try reinstalling through kies or smart switch. Make sure to clear caches before and after. And see if that works. If it doesnt help, you could flash recovery, root, try to backup as much as you can between reboots and then factory reset. Your apps should automatically download from play store. But without the titbackup files you'll lose settings and data in a lot of apps that Google doesn't backup.
I unlocked your mum's bootloader.

Were you able to downgrade back to 5.1.1? My phone also download the MM ota but I haven't installed it. I rooted 5.1.1 first and am trying to locate where exactly the MM ota downloaded to.
Been hearing too much about problems with MM.

There aren't that many problems with MM. Just superficial stuff like not having mobile data toggle. The problems you are hearing about a factory reset will fix. Like lag, jankyness, apps loading, phone freezing temporarily. You won't be able to do OTA. It will fail because of root. You need to titanium backup or whatever method you prefer of backing up data and flash through kies, odin or smart switch. Probably easier to go that route unless you only did minor things with root like just block ads, then you can probably get away with flashing stock recovery and then OTA. You still might have to factory reset like I had to even though I flashed whole rom through smart switch. If you have xposed or modified something like swapping recent apps and back key like me, then you'll need to flash marshmallow whole and start over after backing up.
Afaik, you can't downgrade to 5.1.1 unless somebody figured out a workaround or you only flashed everything except bootloader.

@Shad0wsabr3, my phone gave me the choice to delay the upgrade for a while, but eventually just did it without my consent. I suppose you could download stock 5.1.1 from sammobile if you really wanted to downgrade. I just wish I could figure out how to back up my (unrooted) phone so I could then do a factory reset and see if it helps the problems I'm having.

Iv never backed up an unrooted device so I wouldn't know. Glad you nrought that up as Iv been meaning to look into that.
Would you happen to know where the downloaded ota file location is? My phone downloaded it and I keep postponing it.
Sorry, idk exactly where in the file system it is. All I can caution you again is, I kept postponing it and postponing it, and then one day the phone just popped up a message saying it was going to reboot and update, whether I liked it or not. Well, it didn't actually SAY whether I liked it or not but it did decide that I had postponed the update long enough and it was going to apply the update, giving me no option to postpone it any longer. That sort of pissed me off.
Please let me know if you come up with a backup solution. I've tried SimpleADB or whatever it is called these days, and another app that claimed to be able to back up an unrooted phone. Neither of them worked as advertised.
Where are the root instructions for completely stock 910T with MM update?

I'm still researching what your dealing with. As for me I found the ota file. For those looking for it this is how and where I found it....
With RomToolbox I went to root browser. Then to data folder and a folder named fota. Within the fota folder is the ota update named update.zip. I erased that and then went into Titanium Backup and chose to freeze both software update files. So far no constant reminders that I have an update ready to be installed.
Hope this may help.
