So has anyone found a way to make some sort of easy to use shortcut for tether yet? I don't need hacks for native tethering or anything as my plan includes it, I just want something to make it quicker to turn on the exiting tether without having to dive down so many damn levels into settings.
If your rooted you can edit the settings db to add it to the quick toggels

I am rooted, are there any guides on how to edit that? I've been playing around with Tasker trying to get it to enable it thru there but so far no luck, I got it to run the provision check, but it doesn't turn on the tethering, I'm guessing it's a script and it runs something else after the check, but I can figure out how to duplicate it in Tasker.
Found the guide on how to add toggles missing toggles thru the setting.db and now it's working, thanks!

First of all, while this is my first post, I have been a silent browser of xda for some time. This is such a wonderfull site.
My question is, is it possible to somehow get the settings for sideloading and usb/wifi teathering to show up in the settings menus? I assume that these have been removed or hidden somewhere in the source by commenting out or just been deleted. It seems to me that since these functions were built in to other android devices and I assume the I9000, that it sould be possable to reverse there removal. The settings.db has so many referances to other settings that are easily changed that it sould not require root access correct?
Now I must say that I am in no way a developer, and am not very good with linux. These are just some thoughts and conclutions that I have come up with while reading and pondering over countless articals on xda
Finaly , I want to say that I strongly disagree with Att's position on removing these items to increase there bottem line, and I would be with T-Mobile if they had good coverage in my house.
Usb tether is listed - called Pc internet. Sidwloading can be achieved by rooting and changing a settings.db file but no one has a fix for making it show up.

I am aware of the option to enable sideloading in the settings.db, all im saying is that there must be a way to but the option back in the settings menus. As for the USB teathering, isnt there an option on other devices to enable disable?
perhaps this thread would be better if it was moved to development?

a) the sideloading thing is ATT and that will never show up in one of their phones (unless they somehow miss it) if you really want it THAT badly, you can flash eugene's vibrant hybrid and it's there
b) USB tether is directly available through the settings menu on stock firmware (looks like ATT missed it, because they had it removed in JH2 and JH3)
c) if you mean the WIRELESS (mobile access point) tethering, that was removed by ATT and we've already found workarounds to have it back.
d) this certainly does not belong in development, thanks for keeping it out of that forum
e) look at SRE, it contains basically all the things you're asking for
I am going to have a play with htis tonight using Tasker and Secure Settings as Secure can turn blue tooth tether on or off.
What im looking for as an example I have one page of my Gear with a todo app called Google Tasks Organizer, this app in my opinion is far superior than any other one out there now, I want it to sync with the web based setup say every hour, reason for this is leaving the bluetooth internet on permanently will use more battery, this way once an hour it turns on and syncs, I have installed Tasker successfully on the gear
I'd really love something like this.
Enabling the bluetooth tether on the phone and watch for say 5 mind (or X mins) every hour or something would be awesome.
Edit: I'm sure I read somewhere that fOmey had a tasker script to enable bluetooth tether when the watch screen was on or something, but it caused massive wake locks on the phone..

i can see a need, i did come across a thread using apps but rather use tasker
I've been using Tasker on the GEAR and the watch to auto-tether...
The one thing I cannot find is the Tasker (or Secure Setting ) setting, once tethered/paired, to switch on the Internet Access
under "Paired Device, Settings, Profiles "internet Access" to enable the GEAR to actually automatically connect to the internet
Tethering is easy, but you have to tick a box to get the paired device to use the Internet Access and I'm struggling to do that in Tasker...
Any tips ?

cant seem to get Secure settings to enable tethering on the phone, setting this up first
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.refluxa.android.bat&hl=en
problem with this app being free you get adds.... not good to have on the phone or the watch as they suck bandwidth and power
Tasker wont do it by itself you need secure settings and install the helper

A lot in my experience.. Without internet tethering enabled I end up with about 60% left at end of day. With it enabled, the watch dies before I leave work
I have some example tasker profile stuff here:

Hi Brendo, yes already installed your stuff, was looking if you could avoid the apps but it seems you cant
Without root, I cant use AdAway.
So I'm left to make do with AdBlock Plus.
for Wifi, setting up the manual proxy is easy, and adblocking is working great as long as I'm connected to Wifi.
but while i'm on 3g/4g, I still see ads. I need to make the necessary edits and setup the proxy, but I cant seem to edit or add a new APN. Any way to do this without root?
or, anyone know of any other efficient way of blocking ads on the Turbo?
really? I didnt feel any change using ABP. All my games were showing ads...
Is there a tip or trick to it?
Hey guys I was looking around the store and only found a tasker for 3.63USD that seems to do this (althought it required another side app and it says on the description it might not work)
So I was wondering if you know of any app that can allow me to toggle specifically data mobile connection among other system function as bluetooth, wifi etc.
I used to use Macrodroid for this functions but since now I am required to root my phone for that and since I don't want to mess with a new nexus 5x I am stuck without finding a solution for this .
thanks in advance.
Hello! I'd like your advice on the best way to accomplish the following:
Toggle GPS on "full" when not connected to WiFi and when plugged in
Toggle GPS to "power saving" when WiFi connects (or, ideally, when location remains static for >5 min, but that's neither here nor there)
My android version is 6.01, and my device is rooted, but it is a systemless root, which I gather is why I can't enable any of the root options in Tasker (or its associated plugins). I'd like to keep my root "systemless" if at all possible, so as not to disable Samsung Pay, but if that's not realistic, please let me know.
I am fairly computer savvy, and have been modding phones for 15+ years, but I got "out of the game" several years ago when family life took over. I'm fairly comfortable using Tasker, but have no experience using any of the root options on it, as this is my first time on the merry-go-round with a rooted device. That all being said, throw all your best options at me, but if it's a complicated option please give me a few extra points in the right direction. Thanks!
Appreciate the help!!

You'll use settings put secure location_providers_allowed.
Is it possible to turn off GPS using tasker without other plugin?
On a rooted phone, it may be possible to change GPS using "Run Shell" action with the "Use Root" option, similar to what taisto commented.
http://www.notenoughtech.com/tasker/tasker-run-shell-commands/
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...allowed-using-adb-shell-settings-put/37819652
I think it's also possible to do that sort of thing without root using the following link, although adb on a computer is needed. It looks like there are comments here about "secure location_mode" also being used to change GPS, but that doesn't seem to show up on my phone.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker/comments/4zsi0e/project_share_toggle_settings_eg_location_mobile/
I just use the Secure Settings app. AutoTools Secure Settings is another app option, which is apparently based around the prior link.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker/comments/506emf/deveasy_mode_toggle_settings_eg_location_mobile/
High accuracy
settings put secure location_providers_allowed +gps
No gps
settings put secure location_providers_allowed -gps
Battery savings
settings put secure location_providers_allowed +network
Make sure you toggle root
