Hi all, recently I flashed a custom rom on my nexus 6 and it started bootlooping.
Also as mentioned in the title, my volume buttons are faulty which prevents me from booting into recovery.
I have tried using adb but it kept saying my device was offline.
Is there any way I can somehow boot in bootloader?
Are there any suggestions?
Any and all assistance are appreciated. Thank you!

How are the buttons faulty? Can you remove the volume down key and press the contact inside? That would be the only option if you can't ADB as far as I know.

Otherwise, I would suggest returning it. Is it on a custom ROM? Where is it bootlooping? Splash screen or boot animation?
Have you tried "fastboot reboot-bootloader"?

you have to run that in fastboot, in the bootloader. why would he run that in fastboot if he could get into bootloader already? the point is that he cant get into the bootloader.

Sorry, I hadn't tried it and thought it might work from any phone state. What would be the purpose of rebooting into the bootloader if you're already in the bootloader?

Hi thanks for your suggestion,
I'm running, a custom rom chroma and it only started bootlooping after I flashed the latest version 17/6 on my nexus 6. The volume down button does not respond at all
It bootloops from the custom boot animation all the way to android is starting before restarting the whole process again, skipping the Google logo. It does not at any point actually boot into the home screen.
I might try tearing down my phone to make the contacts work otherwise I'm pretty much acrewed I guess

After you unlock your bootloader you have to reboot for it to be effective. Also, if you flash a new bootloader it is not active until it is rebooted. And you do both of those from fastboot, so there needs to be a way to reboot the bootloader from fastboot.
(In general, bootloaders, recoveries and kernels are all run from memory, not their storage. That's why you can flash them while using them. In fact, you don't even have to flash a recovery, you can fastboot into one right from an image file.)

I'll be honest with you, well, just because I'm that kind of person. some even say that I'm too honest. but I have never in my life reboot the bootloader after unlocking the bootloader or flashing a new bootloader. to say that it is needed is untrue. I've owned every nexus but the n7(2013), and the process is exactly alike on every nexus, and it never includes rebooting the bootloader.

I'm just cautious, lol. Most instructions say to do it. Plus I want to know RIGHT THEN if there was an issue flashing the bootloader. Not that I would be any less ****-ed, lol.
On the 2012 N7, pretty sure you had to reboot into the system before the version would change on the bootloader screen (been a while, though...may be mis-remembering). Tegra 3 was a quirky MFer.

Tried to root, flash rom, now stuck at "This build is for development purposes only"
Hey guys,
I tried rooting my phone, and I rooted it and installed TWRP, etc. However, I tried to install a ROM and now it is stuck at the "This build is for development purposes only" screen.
I can boot into the bootloader, and when I select recovery, nothing happens. Is there anyway to use fastboot or something to restore my device? I made a backup before I rooted.
Please help! I'm also a noob, so please explain everything!
Thank you, I hope i didn't brick my phone.

Did you wipe before you flashed the ROM? Try booting into recovery via terminal. If that doesn't work try reflashing twrp and then using boot loader to get to recovery

Nope, in a "brick" situation, the boot manager gets messed up somehow and the phone will not boot up at all, not even to show an error message. It effectively becomes a fancy paperweight.
In a "soft brick" such as your situation, the OS encounters issues for whatever reason and cannot get into the OS. This is characterized by the phone bootlooping, getting stuck on a splash screen, getting to the boot animation and freezing, pretty much any time when it will power up but will not go into the OS.

Cool, thanks for the info! How difficult is it to accidentally full brick a phone? Just curious, I've heard that it is not common any more.

No problem, always glad to shed some light on things
Well, how hard it is depends on the device. For the different carrier S3's, its really common because people keep flashing roms made for the international S3 (because they dont read that the model number doesnt match up) and brick their phone. This happens because the misc partition on the international lines up with the boot partition on the carrier-specific S3s so essentially the phone is trying to boot from information that is 1) not for that phone and 2) not the right type of information.
But apart from the international/carrier-specific rom scenario, it is very hard to brick your phone now. One almost sure-fire way to brick your phone (on any device) is by pulling the plug on it halfway through flashing/updating firmware (radios, touch screen software, stuff like that), or by flashing corrupted firmware. Also accidentally writing incorrect information (for example fastbooting a recovery to where the radio or boot partition is) can almost guarantee a brick.
As for the One, I'm sure that "help, phone wont boot" posts will start showing up here in about a month or two when the general buzz has died down some. More people are gonna start rooting their phones, not reading, and innappropriately flashing international roms on their carrier-specific One.
EDIT: Look, not even a month yet. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2248629
My brother just got an atrix hd from a guy at work. The phone will not boot into normal, recovery, or anything else besides the AP Fastboot mode. in the AP fastboot screen the text says:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
10.9B(*) (sha-2e68372, 2012-11-17 23:3308)
eMMC info: size 8GB
Device is LOCKED, Status Code:0
Battery OK
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
Fastboot Reason: Boot menu selected
From what my brother knows the guy had the phone in his lunchbox and when he got home from work and tried to turn it on this is what the phone was doing.
Is there something i can try or a way to flash a system image? I've rooted, unlocked the bootloader and installed custom roms on a variety of phones and im sure i can get this phone straightened out if i was just pointed in the right direction. Thanks for any and all the help! its greatly appreciated!!!

Well, firstly, you need to unlock its bootloader IMMEDIATELY then you can try other action (reflash stock roms, etc..). Using Myth Tools is recommended in the post above.
After unlocking bootloader, you can try to download stock firmware from here:
Then flash it with Myth Tools (recommend) or RSDLite
If you satisfy with stock one, just keep it and do further mods or you can flash custom recovery before flashing custom roms.
That's my recommendation but you need to do the FIRST step is Unlocking Bootloader right now
Hope it helps.

I can't even root it, the phone shuts off if disconnected from a charger. And even when on the charger it keeps boot looping.

The boot looping which you mean is going to the fastboot mode, right?
Did you try to enter bootmenu (turn off phone, hold both vol + and vol - then press press powermenu to turn on) and select "normal powerup"?
Can you tell me whether your phone has ATT logo on its screen's bottom?
Maybe flashing back to its correct original firmware by RSDLite can help to bring it back then we can root and unlock bootloader.
But we need to know exactly which is its original firmware before it stucks there.
I've got it fixed...turns out the battery was bad. So luckily I switched it out with an atrix HD with a broken screen we had and it booted right up so I rooted, unlocked the bootloader and flashed the stock logo and a custom ROM. All smiles now! Thanks for everyone's help!

Having a issue with bootlooping, I unlocked the bootloader. I tried to install stock firmware but the phone doesnt even get past the motorola symbol it justs goes blank that tries to boot again. I can get it in to fastboot though. Its ATT version, is there anyway I can fix it?
Did Myth complete the flashing process? Have you tried using RSD lite to flash stock?

There's a chance that it could be the digitizer. About a week ago I replaced my Dad's digitizer and I read a crap ton of reviews before purchasing the one I did. Of the bad ones, a few had people complaining about it not working, most were the top 10% of the screen wouldn't respond to touches (like swiping down the nonfiction drawer), and I saw a couple describing your situation.
If you never had a custom rom installed, were rooted, or had the bootloader unlocked before doing this, I doubt that there's anything you can flash that'll fix this. If the bootloader was unlocked before doing this and there was a custom rom installed on the phone, you might have to flash Philz CWM, format the internal sd, and change its mount point to /data/media then format it again. Not changing the internal sd mount point after flashing a fastboot when coming from custom 4.2+ roms causes bootloops.
This is the digitizer I used to fix my Dad's Atrix HD last week. He hasn't had a problem with it whatsoever. My Dad is an ass of the highest degree so I'd know with a loud angry voice if there was ANY minor issue with it.

Ok so there are multiple questions to answer here.
#1 i do not recall which rom was on the phone.. although it appears it was the lastest AT&T as RSD re-Flashed it with a pass. I suppose i should have checked but i've never ran in to this situation. I was just changing the glass out.... you remove about 16 screws, pop the glass out and put a new one it...
#2 the customer does not want the phone rooted or moded, just stock
#3 the bootloader is locked and mythtool instructions are saying you have to be in debugging mode to unlock.... thats not gonna happen cause it don't boot..
So does anyone know if this thing needs a sim for a first boot after an actuall battery pull?
Also..
I unplugged the digitizer and tried to boot thinking hey other phones will boot without the digitizer, but same thing... AT&T Screen and it's hung. everything on this board is shielded.. so i doubt it got ESD zapped, and i did take static potective precautions.
I bet this thing would look good with a .45cal hole in it.

#1 That's what I'd assume...and it's 22 screws with fine threading... And if you're getting the AT&T boot logo after a fastboot flash, the bootloader is locked.
#2 Customer's loss
#3 Never actually tested that, but I've never once needed a sim for it to boot up....actually, my first boot ever might have been sim free...been a year now so I'm not really sure.
And I didn't take static precautions.
You didn't accidentally warp or mess up the motherboard on the blow dryer part of the digitizer swap? Or any unnecessary bending on the board with you were prying the screen from it? Those two are the only "dangerous" parts in any Atrix HD repair...unless someone isn't steady with a screwdriver, then there are 46 "dangerous" parts to the repair.
Next time you power up the phone, hold down both volumes and power to access the boot menu. Use volume down to scroll to recovery and volume up to select it. Once in recovery, do a factory reset as well as any cache or dalvik wipes available. If a fastboot flash and all the wipes in stock recovery don't fix it, I'm not really sure what will aside from a new motherboard -- in which case you're better off spending an extra 20-30 and just getting a used Atrix HD like I did....I mean, 50 for just a motherboard or 80 for the all the hardware plus accessories...not really a hard choice seeing as the customer will at least have some backup repair parts in case something bad happens in the future.
Stock recovery is worthless

The only thing you can flash with a locked bootloader is your stock rom with fastboot. That's it. When locked, if manually flashing all the partitions, flashing with RSD, wiping everything that can be wiped, and you're still not booting, then the phone is either truly bricked or you're not doing something correctly.
The only exception to the above is if something went bad during the OTA and you have some sort of partition mix up, in which case the official fastboot for the OTA might fix it for you -- there isn't a stock fastboot for the OTA yet.

new twrp's won't work
Hi there,
I just tried to root my htc mini 2 with and it says that it is tampered now and I can't reboot my recovery. So I tried the newest twrp and some in between because I've read in this forum that somebody had the same problem and he just got the newest twrp but that didn't work for me at all.
Is there any way to undo the whole thing by replacing the twrp with the original one or do I have to wait till there is gonna be a root for the htc mini 2?
When I try to recover everything it says that this build is for development purpose only...
Does somebody have an idea?
I would appreciate it a lot if somebody has an idea.

When the bootloader says "tempered" means that it was unlocked. when you see " this build is for development purpose only" its referring to TWRP because you now using a custom recovery. Not sure the nature of your problem but to undo, simply boot into boot loader and flash original recovery.img you can find in the forum.
I can't you open TWRP?

I can't do anything, I can't unlock it nor shut down my phone or start the bootloader... that kind of sucks. Any suggestions now? Cheers Man,
I have a small niggling problem that I can't work out, My battery tends to die alot, once I place the phone on charge after a flat battery, the phone auto boots to Twp, I am really cool with that but the annoying thing is buttons and screen are unresponsive? I can't do a thing, just have the Twp menu. The power of button does turn the screen off/on but thats its. Tried doing factory resets, reboots holding down power, vol buttons. Just nothing.
only way around it is to use adb and reboot command.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem.

Help: Stock rom updated between boots, TWRP non responsive, fastboot doesnt recognise
Hello to anyone that can help or in a similar situation,
Have brand new HTC one mini 2, rooted. Am trying to install cyanogenmod and followed the instructions on their page. All went well and was ready to flash the rom from TWRP. Decided to do a backup to SD first and then apply super user. Forced to reboot and accidentally let it boot to android (stock rom). Didnt notice the last time i had it booted wifi downloaded a system update which was automatically applied next time i booted into the stock rom after backup and Superuser in TWRP. Rebooted to recovery (TWRP) as soon as i could, but TWRP is no longer responding to touch. I realise i have probably updated the phone to a point where TWRP is no longer working, and i have to use something else to flash my rom. Am trying to flash an updated TWRP or Clockworkmod recovery, but fastboot/adb no longer recognise the device when booted into the stock rom, and when i boot into TWRP (non-responsive) it also doesnt recognise the device attached, even if i catch it before the screen goes black from inactivity. Any suggestions greatly appreciated....

A kind member replied to me in another post indicating that fastboot commands only work in the bootloader, and that adb commands only work in TWRP which is why I am having problems re-flashing TWRP (requiring the "fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img" command). However I thought TWRP replaced the bootloader, so I seem to be locked out of re-flashing TWRP because i have TWRP. This seems not to make a lot of sense, can anyone else confirm or otherwise explain what I have misunderstood about that? As stated neither adb nor fastboot recognises the device is attached to the computer any more, so commands are not executing...

I think I have found the solution for myself: I went back into the stock rom and did a factory reset (from within android booted up as normal), which after completion rebooted me into TWRP which now works fine (is responding to touch again, and i can flash the Cyanogen image now). Hopefully this helps someone else in this situation one day, or maybe I am the only idiot that needed to ask hehe. I should clarify that after flashing TWRP I lost access to the fastboot screen and could not push anything over ADB or fastboot commands from windows (plugged in via USB). Holding down volume down and power booted directly into TWRP, and i had no way to get to fastboot screen. After doing factory resent from within the Android OS, holding volume down and power booted me to the fastboot screen, and only when I selected "Recovery" did it take me to TWRP, and I was again able to run fastboot and ADB commands from PC. Weird (or maybe not if you know more than me), but there it is...

Sorry, but it seems to me that you don't know the difference between bootloader and recovery. I apologize if you do. If not, search in CM wikis or ask here for explanations.

I do indeed know the difference between the bootloader and recovery, its just that the bootloader (Hboot) was not longer accessible in my situation and TWRP (the recovery) was imposing itself when you would normally expect to find the bootloader (i.e. my bootloader was for all intents and purposes replaced by my recovery, while I am sure this is not true in fact, it was in effect). As I say, doing a factory reset from within the OS restored the bootloader (HBoot) and I was able to continue modding. I am today extremely happy with my fully secured cyanogenmodded HTC One Mini 2 via TWRP recovery method. I hope that is somewhat clearer.
Can you enter bootliader now? I got stuck in a bootloop once and couldn't enter bootloader because I continued pressing power and Volume down like I did on my One S. For Mini 2, we have to hold the Volume UP and Power buttons until HBOOT appears, then release the buttons.

That may well have been an alternative solution to my problem, however it was fixed by the factory reset and volume down and power then took me to HBoot (this would appear to contradict what you have said above, but maybe volume down and power does different things depending on how what you have done to the phone, not sure), so I cannot confirm whether or not that also would have worked for me. Good suggestion though, especially if you are not in a position to do a factory reset. and it would certainly be easier if it worked...I am convinced my problem was the result of a conflict between the TWRP version i installed (downloaded from here) and the android update that occurred between boots.
I am indeed able to get into bootloader/hboot and successfully flashed cyanogenmod from TWRP. I can confirm post flashing TWRP and Cyanogenmod, holding volume down and power takes me to HBoot (and then the option to go to fastboot or recovery).
Holding power up and power just loads cyanogenmod for me now as if I had just pressed power.
I thought I should confirm whether or not holding volume up vs volume down with power results in bootloader vs recovery loading. For me, they both took me to TWRP.
Also, TWRP doesnt seem to work on HTC One Mini 2 after you do anything to set up your phone. It just doesnt recognise touch input any more so you cant do anything with it. However the fix i noted earlier (factory reset) even works with other roms installed, confirmed for cyanogenmod 11 and 12 nightlies as at the date of this post. After factory reset TWRP works again, but if you go through the setup steps and start installing apps, TWRP goes unresponsive again. I hope we might get an official TWRP update soon!
I have update my rooted OP 3T by flashing the complete rom through TWRP.. But the problem is whenever I flash the Supersu version : SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815 or SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742, I am getting bootloop.
Please anyone advise me.
I checked that without flashing SuperSU phone is able to Boot safely.
Thank you in advance.
It's normal if it bootloops once or twice
But if it's more than that then it's problematic
So which one is it
Another thing you can try is try magisk root instead of supersu and see if gets the same result
Phone was stucked in bootloop for an hour without any reboot.
I am not fond of magisk yet... So dont have any plan for it.
Just want to know if this happens to only me or there are many others with same issue.
Edit:
Finally installed Magisk for root... Issue closed.
help!?

That is not the proper way to unroot (go back to stock). Relocking the bootloader while rooted was asking for trouble. There is a guide on how to return to stock in the Guides section.
Also, fastboot commands will only work while in fastboot mode, if the phone is looping, or otherwise stuck on any other screen/mode, than fastboot commands will not work. It's also a bit irrelevant, as your ability to flash anything with a locked bootloader is very limited. That's the whole purpose of a locked bootloader.
I'd start by making sure you are in fastboot, get fastboot working, and unlock the bootloader again. Then follow the proper process to return to stock.

I forgot this is an edit the first time Gentlemen, I am absolutely at wit's end now I am no geek with a capital G however I have been modifying phones for some 3 years now and I can't even tell you how many times I flashed ROMs my beloved 3T 3T has had been acting glitchy lately like when I would reboot the circle that turns - instead of just turning evenly it would twitch, it was such a small thing I ignored it but I think now that that's must be have been indication something was not right few other things like that. I flashed the Freedom ROM cuz I'm so sick a Google and Google Assistant when I came out I was in a bootloop so I wiped everything except OTG everything and formatted data did the ROM Flash again the a boot Loop still abides and I've done it a dozen times now sometimes a couple of times it it just it kept recycling the bootloop another time and got hung up on the OnePlus it just sat there on the logo and if I miss something obvious I do apologize I'm tired and I'm at wits end because I'm not used to not being able to solve my own problems I guess so any help at all or just even a heading in the right direction would be so much appreciated that I don't even know how to call it quantify it thank you
By the way I seldom post or even post questions but when I do I always pretty much say the same thing you guys are the best this is the one place I can come for Andrew Android advice or or guidance and I just I absolutely trust what I read so thank you thank you thank you thanks for being there
Edit - I'm so tired I forgot the first time I went to reflash the ROM it told me that my 3T was in fact not a 3T that it was a three and I read someplace so I'm XDA that that's just Corruption of the install script so I downloaded it again I ran 7-Zip it said it was coherent so I flash it again if that's important but thanks again

Hey, was just setting up my mi5 for custom roms. Got the bootloader unlocked, then installed TWRP via fastboot as per the instructions here (https://twrp.me/devices/xiaomimi5.html).
After I got into TWRP I made a quick backup of the image, and then set the phone to reboot. Now its in a bootloop, flashing the mi logo (and bootloader unlock on the bottom). Doesn't turn off, doesn't do anything when plugged into pc, fastboot reboot doesn't do anything.
Any ideas? Didn't think I had done anything wrong (done this kind of thing a couple times before).
Cheers!
EDIT: Hang on, managed to get into fastboot, I guess I should be able to sort things out from there? What should I aim to do. I can also get into recovery. Still won't boot into system anymore though.

Which twrp version are you using?
Did you actually flash any custom rom or do you try to start miui?
Did you change any partition?
Something similar happened to me one time. I solved it by doing the root right after installing the twrp. And magically started my rom.
