[Q] This is kinda weird. - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone seen anything like this? Like, I don't know where this notification is originating from. I was using Handcent SMS, and I thought that's what it was. Nope, because it still happens after uninstall and installed Textra. It's not the stock messaging app either, that I can tell. I have no idea where it's coming from but I hate it. What's up with that little blue box that said "True" lol. Somebody help before I throw it in the pool. It just started happening today. I tried to retrace my steps and undo whatever I may have done, but I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

Like I said, I really don't know. I didn't install anything of consequence, really. I installed a skin for Swiftkey, but I went back to the previous skin I've been using for months and it persisted. I am just doing a factory reset because I'm tired of trying to figure it out. Maybe someone else has seen this before and will comment on it....

and if you don't figure out which app it is(yes, app, considering that's not default android), you'll factory reset then you'll probably install it again

Its truecaller, an app like caller id

You should be posting this in the ROM thread, not here. I had the issue consistently since the first port, no idea why. Some people report not having the issue, but I think enough people have the problem for it to be condsidered a "known bug"...
I was running Tazz4/4.1 for over a week with acceptable issues. I used Google Voice for messaging so I did not really miss anything. I decided to switch back to AOSP 5/23 today because I needed Bluetooth working. It ran great especially with the .35 kernel though.
I will switch back as soon as Bluetooth is functional (hopefully soon).
Tazz 4.1 6/11/2011 No keyboard
I also like this rom, but am having a problem after installation. I was wondering if I may be doing something wrong or if others have had the problem of no keyboard after installation of Tazz 4.1 6/11/2011. I have followed the instructions for install, wiped everything (even reformatted) several times with the same result.
Yeah some have had the issue, I think it just takes a minute in settings to fix it. I installed it, no kb... Went into settings/keyboard/ and selected the htc_ime (I may have deselected it first) and then in a text field, long-press and select htc_ime and it should work fine.

Thanks for the quick response. When I go to settings/Language & Keyboard there is nothing to select it is blank. When I long press on a text field nothing happens. I will once again try reformatting, wiping everything and re-installing

Lookout Security

Disable this or kill it as you wish. Is it the root of many problems on your new phone. The number one problem is the prevention information pop up that many of us got from day one. This junk AV program is the cause and it is attempting to prevent stock apps from loading and that is what is giving you the pop up.
It will also interfere with Kingo Root as well.
Just thought I would share this since I see from post that many are still having these issues and scratching their heads.:good:
I basically have only left it on for the missing device feature. I disabled the scanning and stuff.

I did settings/general/app manager/scrolled to Lookout. Uninstalled and got the same message .... "would be returned to stock app"
App disappeared from my app drawer, thought we were done, didn't see it for a day or little more.
Then this morning it was in my notifications again, but no sign of Lookout.
I have not done anything different since I uninstalled it?
Anyone with any ideas?

KNOX dos not stop APPS. Knox is a future implementation to verify and validate the system and file integrity of the phone before it is allowed to log onto a KNOX enforced network that some corporate users are switching over to.
It will simply not allow you to connect to a KNOX enforced network if your phone or files have been altered from stock state. This does not include installed apps of course.
Right now KNOX is on the phone but not active. Note, don't confuse the software KNOX with the hardware KNOX that prevents you from flashing. They are related in purpose but different things.
The culprit that stops apps is Lookout Security. From day one I was getting that stupid pop up. I uninstalled Lookout and I have not seen that pop up since for 3 months now.
Well, I have not seen the message today at all, but it was definitely there yesterday morning, (to my surprise).
I sure hope I don't see it again, (leaves a bad taste in my mouth having that kinda crap happen on a new device, with no explanation).
I went to Settings>General>Application Manager, under Downloaded I scrolled to Lookout. I force stopped and then clicked on uninstall updates. It said it was going back to stock. Then I clicked on Turn Off. I can no longer find it in Application Manager. Those of you that uninstalled, might want to got to App Manager and turn it off as well. Hope this helps.
You know after being a member of this forum for about a good full active year I have never criticized anybody here.
Today it changes.
The OP has absolutely no idea what the hell he/she is talking about and to bad mouth any developer when you can't even make something yourself is wrong.
Lookout is one of the original and free anti virus apps out there. It's as good if not better than most. They are a top rated cyber security firm as well. Lookout doesn't have a thing to do with Kingo rooting nor does it have anything to do with KNOX related anything. This thread should have been in the stupid questions and answers thread. I am totally surprised a couple knowledgeable users on here haven't commented already.

Then why did it stop only after I got rid of Lookout and when I enabled Lookout it started again? It might be KNOX as you said but then it is Lookout that KNOX is killing. Because based on the simple fact that When Lookout is enabled I get that prevention pop up about twice a day at reboot. If I have Lookout disabled I never get the popup. As for bad mouthing Devs, I have a right if I have proof their app is a source of my issue and possibly others as well. There are other whom have posted in this thread with the same result as myself as well. I don't see you attacking them. So?

I have a custom ROM installed and lookout didn't even come on it and I still get the pop ups because it's not a KNOX free ROM.
What you have experienced is a total coincidence.
And I apologize about my earlier aggression. Really struck a nerve after a very bad day.

4.4.2 Vs 4.2.2 is it worth the switch?

I've seen posts of several loving 4.4 and others going back to 4.2. Is it worth it? Battery life? Are there known bugs and issues?
Imo, its still very much subjective. As much as I've frequented here throughout the years,I would probably still be considered a noob. With that being said, here are my thoughts
Initially I was regretting the update. My battery life being terrible was my biggest gripe. I decided to root it only three days of having the stock 4.4 rom. Once I did that, my battery life levels returned to 4.2 levels. I'm getting about 15 hours off a single charge which is huge for me. Not sure if rooting actually made the difference but that's the only thing I changed after I initially made the switch.
Plus I love the new camera app which isn't offered for 4.2. I just wish Google incorporated a long press to kill apps feature. Seems like the only way you can get that is through a custom rom
Also, my screen rotation seems to be broken. It works on certain apps and not on others. It will work if I click on a video within flipboard, but not in my picture gallery. I can deal with it for a while but not too much longer

You may want to look into xposed framework and either wanam or gravitybox. It will give you your long press back to kill along with a while host of other features. I could never live on a stock ROM without one of those.

Honestly, no. That's really weird that it's hit or miss like that. There's a reason they pulled that update, though. I'm wondering if there's not different hardware revisions or something and 4.4.2 just works better with some than others. Only suggestion I could make is make a nandroid, do a factory reset, and see if that fixes it. If not, just restore your backup.
Did you make any other modifications or delete any system apps after rooting?

No idea how or why that might make a difference, but I made a backup of mine with Titanium Backup and I've attached an archive with the files in it. You can use that to reinstall it. I just froze all the stupid system apps on my phone. I figured it was safer that way. Anyway, let me know if that works. Hope it does.

My only "issue" is that I was trying to free up some internal memory. Freezing apps doesnt get rid of them right? It just suspends them from showing up in your app tray correct?

System apps live on a different partition from your regular apps and so do their .dex files (for odexed roms, which stock usually is). So no, unless you need to push some apps (supersu? ) to the /system/ partition, there is no need to free up space. Just uninstall updates and freeze.

Just got a random reboot.

I was in settings/storage, and tapped on apps. The phone lagged then opened the apps section. I tapped the back button and then the phone shut off and restarted. I am rooted, twrp recovery, but using the stock rom.
Has anyone else experienced this at all? Wondering if it is a widespread thing, or not.

Cool story bro
I've been getting way too many random reboots. Something as simple as turning off wifi or turning it back on will cause it. I'm not sure why it does it and I'm fully stock, unrooted. I've seen suggestions about clearing the cache and I've done that, but the problem continues. I'd say it does it on average once every couple of days.
Now that's a cool story, bro.

I've thought about wiping and starting over, but I'd rather find out that it's a known issue with a fix before I go through all of that work. It's not like I've been flashing ROMS and messing around with the radios or anything like that.

That stinks huh?! Unfortunately though if you wanted someone to truly help figure that out you'd want to have a Log of some sort

I didn't think about that until after I posted. I totally spaced on that.
I was more wanting to know if it was a widespread problem. I didn't word my post very well.

Hey it's all good! I wasn't scolding you or something.. I've been there myself. Hop on here and try to explain something that just happened with my phone and while I'm writing it... Think to myself... Guess a log would have helped lol

"unfortunately, camera has stopped!" error

I have this error once in a while, I just bought my note 4 last March! I have to restart my phone in order for it to work. It just happened lately. Any solutions?
What rom and kernel?

Most likely try wiping data under application settings in camera app. That should do it.

Its not rooted. Orig tmo stock.
How do I do it?
From a different thread:
Just go to:
- settings
- application manager
- scroll to "ALL"
- find "CAMERA"
- click on CLEAR CACHE and CLEAR DATA
-click OKAY despite the warnings (TRUST ME)
-restart your phone
Now check your camera again (crossing my fingers for you)
If that doesn't work the next step would be a factory reset.
Then if factory reset doesnt work. You need to call t mobile and have them warranty ot out.
Thanks guys

It worked for 2 days. Now when I opened my camera, its just black, no error message , cant take pix/vids. I clear the cache but still the same. I tried google camera ? but wont open either.
If it happened again will do factory reset.

Dude. Take it back . My camera NEVER acted like that when I first got it. Even with custom roms. That will certainly not help your situation considering this seems to be a hardware problem. Did you drop your device?

I bought it around March 9 2015, so the 14day return warranty is over. How is the warranty for Tmobile works? I didn't dropped it.

It's not months old like mine is. Just demand a new phone. If your doing payments. Why keep paying for something that isn't working properly? Is the sellers responsibility. Especially because of the "contract "
