Bootloop for any Custom ROM Except Lollipop Stock ROM - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated the Moto G 2014 to Lollipop Stock ROM
in order to do so, updating of the bootloader was necessary.
It was told on the Cutsom ROM pages, that in order to install a custom lollipop,
you first have to flash a stock rom, in order to not get into a bootloop.
after installing the stock ROM,
I got the error: -> Cant unmount /data, no such volume
this was done in PhilZ CWM Recovery.
May this is due to an old version of CWM?
some pages recommend the TWRP Recovery, but users reported the same trouble anyway.
Which is the latest version of CWM and are there issues with lollipop custom roms with Philz CWM?
thanks.

I found out that this has to do with
error unmounting /system so such volume.
I am working on this for days now. Just can't find it...

Flash ZIPs on Stock Rom?

I'm trying to flash the new gmail/camera to my bionic. I have it rooted and running JB, but can't seem to figure out how/which recovery to flash it in. I tried recovering the stock rom in a rom slot and flashing them it seemed to work until I got stuck in a boot loop. The zips fail on stock recovery (any way around this?) and rom manager doesn't boot into cm recovery. What else can I try?
Edit: Has been resolved
Stock Recovery has always been made for flashing ONLY signed official ZIP files. CWM recovery only works if you're on Bootstrap, which is old and deprecated, as well as possibly dangerous for your Bionic. Safestrap is the only way to go on the Bionic at this point and I'm not even sure of its abilities to write to /system on the stock slot

Set metadata recursive problem

Hello
I'm trying to flash PacROM 4.4 and I'm encountering a problem with "set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed".
As I searched its because of old recovery tools, but I'm already uusing CWM 4.4.1 and I cannot find out what to do.
The way I tried to flash ROM :
1. Flash stock .254 ROM
2. Install TowelRoot and CWM
3. Flash with CWM 4.4.1 and this is where error come up (kernel 207 works)
Thank you for help
edit: I managed to install VANIR ROM, and later with the same method I managed to install PAC ROM too. I used CWR not Philz.
Your problem was most likely related to your recovery, which was probably outdated.
CM based ROMs sometimes have issues with older versions of CWM.
The reason why it worked after installing Vanir is probably because of Vanir's kernel which includes a more recent version of CWM.
Anyway, glad you got it working.

Bootloop on custom ROMs; stock ROM OK

Hi all!
I flashed my recovery to TWRP and ever since then, I always get stuck in bootloop no matter what custom ROM I try. Flashing back to stock rom via ODIN works.
It's been a while since I've tinkered with custom ROMs so I may be missing something. Any ideas on where to start?

Hi,
Which phone ? i9305 or i9300 ?
Which version of TWRP do you use ?
You should try latest version of TWRP (2.8.7.3).
Or try Philz touch Recovery 6.48.4 or 6.59.
1.Repeat ODIN step to stock rom
2.Root the phone by kingroot (as it's doesn't required pc)
3.After rooting, Download Cwm rom manager
4.Install Cwm by selecting your phone model and etc
5.flash it directly from the apps
6.now you can flash any rom ( please backup your system for your safety)

Samsung i9305 stuck at boot logo

Comming from stock ROM every new ROM I'm trying to flash just hangs on a boot logo (animation) of CM for example. Phone was wiped fully several times using TWRP and Cyanogenmod Recovery (/system, /data, /cache, /dalvik-cache).
Any help, please?
what version of twrp are you using? i've had the same issue with twrp 2.8.7.0. It seems to be buggy.
Try another version. 2.8.5.0 works fine for me.
// you might need to / want to / have to restore your phone to stock rom AND recovery first.
Agree with the possibility of TWRP problem. There is a version 3 out now which might work but 2.8.5 is definitely OK. Philz recovery should also work.Make sure these are the correct versions for phone.HTH.
Flash recovery via Odin. Firstly make sure you are using recovery made for our phone. To be honest, I prefer TWRP, and I am using 2.8.5 as I remember. Also, which roms you tried ? I had CM 12.1 and CM 13, and they worked totally fine, but I just loved more stock 4.4.4 so I downgraded.

[HELP] Installed one rom and now i can't use twrp

so, i installed this rom
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga.../stock-nougat-7-0-downgrade-binary-3-t3863914
and my twrp got wiped from my phone and now i want to install it again but i can't
i have read the whole thread searching for a solution but it doesn't have one, but in that thread is mentioned that this rom doesn't let you flash twrp
so, there's a custom rom that i can install with odin only? or i'm screwed?
Sir, the rom you downloaded is stock rom. So if you flashed the rom the trwp will be dissapear.
Reflashing twrp might be help.

You Flashed stock ROM therefore it should replace custom recovery with Stock..
Since you are on stock, you might be able to get official updates thru OTA.
You can flash Twrp similarly as you did before
