My upgrade is coming up soon and am thinking of either the Samsung ATIVs, Nokia Lumia 820 or HTC 8x, These are the only viable options O2 have on offer at present, Looks as though they will not be stocking the Lumia 920.
I am currently using a Lumia 900 running 7.8 and have used a Lumia 820 before it had to be replaced, Wife now has my 820 and from my experience with Nokia and HTC I have not had much luck with reliability.
I have had a HTC Titan & Titan2 and love the large screens.
Question is do I take a gamble on the Samsung? Can anyone share their experiences and or preferences to help me make a decision?
Thanks in advance.
Hmm, tough one.
For me, Lumia920 is the WP8 uberphone just 4 now.
Samsungs Ativ? IMHO it has only 2 pros and much more contras.
Pros: Big screen (But AMOLED, not IPS), and good front facing camera (1.9 if I remember correctly)
Cons: cheap plastic, although looks good (at start), ugly (at least to me, and reminds a lot to S3 which I despise).
It has a SD card slot, but WP8 has no good management of SD cards, so I consider it a con
Also, Nokia has its premium services like City Lens, and Maps...
This is only my opinnion, possibly some1 else has another...
Good luck with the choice
Lumia all the way, I have an 822 and besides a few personal issues that I have with it; its a great phone. No more Bing Maps.:good:
I have an 8X and an Ativ S. I use the Ativ S as my daily. I much prefer it to the 8X.
The reasons?
1. Feels much nicer in the hand than the 8X.
2. Expandable storage means I don't have to mess around with cloud solutions.
3. Much better battery life.
4. Bigger screen.
5. Physical 'Home' button to wake the device rather than hunt for the on/off button.
6. Better FF camera.
7. Additional benefits such as ability to block callers etc.
Thanks for your input peeps, I imagined the Samsung would have had better build quality and I don't like the plastic feel mentioned, Also the raised home button is not so good for me so I guess that's out of the window, Shame as that large screen is tempting.
I really love the style of the Lumias (800-900) and the 820 seems to have gone away from the traditional Lumia image, Also battery life on the wifes 820 is not too great,
The 920 is the only thing that is on that path and it has a larger screen than the 820 and 8x.
As for the HTC8x I have no idea and never used one but expandable storage of the 820 and Samsung would be handy,
I think my only hope is that rather than upgrading through O2 I try maybe Carphone Warehouse or Phones4U in the hope they will be stocking the 920 on the O2 network early in March, I think 32gb is enough for songs and stuff at least for now,
Failing that I am still a bit stuck, Cheers. :fingers-crossed:
Just had a chat with an O2 advisor for all that it's worth and they said O2 will be stocking the Lumia 920 for my upgrade in March and to keep checking the coming soon link etc, Great news if it's true, If not I guess it will be a sim free handset and a re-mortgage :crying:

Just a suggestion...if you can wait, that is....
If I myself would be upgrading to WP8, I would most definitely wait for Mobile World Congress due to other phones being announced then. There are rumors that Nokia is developing 920 successors and if my hunches are correct, they will be announced next month. -However, realistically they would only be announcing the phones...I'm sure there are a few/several months off from release time.
Soooo, that is just my 2 cents. If you don't really care for that then maybe Samsung is the route to go. However again, this could be entitled as my own opinion...Samsung/HTC seem to focus more on the droid side than what they do with WP7/(8?)...From experience with owning previous WP7 Samsung/HTC devices, don't expect too much in terms of "extra" WP8 satisfaction from these OEM's -compared to Nokia, that is.
Anyway...I wish you luck on your quest to finding a WP for you!
Thanks for all the input, I am going to see if O2 keep to their word for a Lumia 920 in March, Think sticking with Nokia would be the best deal seeing as they are 100% committed to WP, It would also be interesting to see what is around the corner too so for now my options are still open, Things hopefully can only get better now wp8 has had its teething problems and fixes are being made. :good:
Hello guys. I'm watching many reviews about the Lumia lineup and I have to say that I really like it. I was even considering to buy me a Lumia but to do that I have to sell my two phones But I think I gonna do it in the near future maybe but I wanted to ask you, what Lumia would be perfect for a Windows Phone 1st timer? I have 2 Android phones (like said above) and I like them but I have a "big" problem with one of them. When I would sell them I would have ~210$ (I know it's not much money but in my country it is much). Can you write me what are the positives and negatives of having a WP?

I had 3 phones with Android before going on Windows Phone and I think it's a good decision.
Pro WP:
- speed
- very rarely blocked
- after 6 months of use moves as well like begining
- Security is better
- very good camera and navigation apps
- in WP 8.1 (cortana, quiet hours, ..)
Against :
More application in Google store but you will find the usual applications also in WP store
you must wait ~ 1 month to get WP 8.1 oficial update from manufacturers( to have cortana, notification, ....)
if you want to buy nokia is an advantage in construction quality
Well, I'm actually pretty satisfied with my HTC Sensation, but as I'm using Windows 8.1 on my PC and my Tablet is used for Android-Gaming, I was considering buying a Windows Phone.
I don't want to make too much steps back from my Sensation and as I found out, many Windows Phone HTC-Devices lack of microSDHC-Slot and GPS functionality, which I find neccessary.
I tried PDAdb, but except a bunch of Nokia Phones, which mostly all had a less display-res than my Sensation, there was no clear answer for me.
I don't need dual sim and a better Cam than my Sensation would be nice.
From the Uprade Standpoint - In don't know, how many Windows Phone 7 Devices get/got Windows Phone 8 or 8.1, so help would be fine.
In short, I'm looking for Whindows Phone Device, that has nearly the same, maybe a bit better Specs than my sensation, a better Cam and no need for dual sim.
Thanks in advance for any advices.
Okay... let's see...
What you want is a phone that has the same or better than your HTC sensation, right?
Screen: it has to be 720x1280 or better
Cam: It could be 8 MP but with better optics and algorithm.
MicroSD and GPS is a must...
With the config you mentioned, you basically get to choose the following phones:
Nokia Lumia 830
Nokia Lumia 1520
Samsung Ativ S
Samsung Ativ SE
Samsung Ativ S Neo
All other Nokia phones have the features you requested except the SD-card slot.
Now, all of those Windows Phones come with Windows Phone 8.0, which is upgradable to 8.1 and to 10.0 next year. Windows Phone 7 IS NOT upgradable to 8.0, so don't bother looking for those phones.
By the way, Windows Phone is very optimized so it will flow like silk no matter the model of the phone.
The Lumia 1320's camera might be a bit of a downgrade, but otherwise fits your list.
The HTC One M8 (for Windows) has a bit of an odd camera that you might call a "sidegrade", but is otherwise excellent.
There really need to be more phones with high specs *and* an SD card.
How about Lumia 730? Great display and decent camera.
Knowing the carrier is useful. I'm digging my new M8 though. I'll likely get a 128GB card soon and load this thing up with music.
Sent from my HTC6995LVW using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
M8 with Windows is the way to go

It depends what you are looking for.
Im a happy N7+ user, will keep the phone at least 2 more years. Running on pie, zero problems, battery up to 48 hours.
I just dont play games. A lot of photos (thanks GCam) , social, internet, i like the Android 1 concept. Now its price is dropped i think its a good deal.
For the Mi A2 i can just tell you build quality is not comparable with the N7+ and i read about the screen, if you wear sunglasses you cant see it well.
About the Rεalme, test the OS ... i come from EMUI and MIUI and still prefer stock android one.

I also prefer android 1 but i hear about problems in charge , what about that
https://community.phones.nokia.com/...lus-usb-c-charging-port-fail-in-build-quality
and do you think it's a good deal or wait for something like mi a3 or pocophone 2 or something
I am also change my phone every 2-3 years
there are cases that report this problem and other little things now and then, its true.
But i think the majority doesn't have them, and since you buy a new device you have warranty, so if something comes up you bring it back and demand a repair.
I too have zero problem with Pie (no charging/battery/wifi/bt/usb/screen problem which you can read from some peoples here in some n7p threads)...
Only problem is no officially way for unlock bootloader, but if you buy with nonupdated (security <= august) and you dont install ota, is possible unofficially unlock (payed service(generating signature file based on your imei/sn) per 4$ and you unlock it with this file)...
Device with newer update is need downgrade before unlocking (another payed service 6$? Is need remote to ypur pc with vonnected phone)

The phone is from late 2018 it's not even half a year old so I don't understand what you mean with 'still' worth. I come from a Droid Turbo (XT1254) and I spend around a week to carefully select the right phone, I also did this when I made the decission for the 7+.
The upsides in daily experiences:
Battery lasting (disable the Evenwell batterysaver for more durance),
Camera (on gcam it's crazy good quality)
Speed
Sound (loud and good)
Memory slot
The downsides I have discovered:
USB-C connection (could also be dirt, or the cable)
Screen is no amoled, and in sunlight performs like most devices
After rooting, not that much mods as I am used to like Droid Turbo
I am very happy with this device, it's a very good follow up to my Droid Turbo although I miss the IR-sensors that Motorola put on the Droid Turbo. At meetings it was like "how did you do that" when I wave to see the incoming messages. It was fun

Very happy with the phone also.
No issues on Pie.
Min. 2 days battery (no gaming, YouTube or Facebook).
If this phone would have been smaller (like 5.6" pixel 3) it would have been perfect.
Xiaomi phones are cheap, but with a reason.
Not sure about realme, but Android one is worth it.
Good luck.
If you don't use NFC, buy Redmi Note 7 (Pro).

Yes, for me, for TWRP, rooting with Magisk, Magisk mofules, Greenify in better root mode, TitaniumBackup, access to all apps data, F-Droid privileged (instakl/update direct without need manualy confirm all packages install)...
For others is also benefit try others roms (also GSI pissible), others kernelm etc...
edit: also with unlocked is possible downgrade to any previous Pie /Oreo

It's loose on several Nokia devices due to a designflaw at production. The port is too big and gives room for the cable to move/get loosen. One solution is to 'fatten' the cable through knife, or to just use a docking station.
Sending a loose USB-C for warrenty will just fix the problem temporarly and a lot of phone fixing companies take days/weeks + may return your device with new scratches.

Presonally I would not recommend at all.
Why? This phone is stupidly unstable. Few days ago I wanted to delete history in Chrome from the last 7 days, my phone freezed during the delete process.
Also uninstalling apps is for some reason slow, even when uninstalling or disabling some apps can cause also phone to freeze. The list could be even long, you can find issues I find on my posts through my profile.
Really tired of this phone, and dissapointed because I am emotionally connected with the Nokia brand, having now Nokia phone was a must, but unfortunately I regret.
I am still on older build, 32CC, I saw there are much newer builds where they maybe fix those issues, but I cannot even manually sideload those updates.
I don´t know what is the situation with other phones like 8.1, 7.1, do they have similar problem? Can anyone confirm this?
Also you can see that HMD struggles with the software, Nokia 9 which was supposed to came out back in August last year and which came 7 months later, still have software issues, probably everyone at HMD is all in to fix software issues for Nokia 9, also literally not a single Nokia device did not get March update, which shows that HMD is really poor with the software engineers.
hi, i bought my Nokia 7 plus on April 2018 for MYR1600. Phone good on paper but bad in implementation.
Frequent screen freezes (power off n on to fix issue) n loose USB port after 6 months. Sent to service center n they replaced usb port n motherboard. update November 2018 update n screen blank off when making receiving calls.
they replace the same thing again. RUN AWAY FROM THIS PHONE
Bad sides is Speed and Usb-c port issue for me. It has all aroung good stuffs
There's no lineageOS and 60fps video (and official bootloader unlock, not even a recovery tool!). If you don't care about those, then its still a great buy from what I've known so far. Heard that the camera is good. It's included in my shortlist.
Spend a bit more and you can get the Xiaomi f1 and even xz1 (bit old but not bad).
I have been using Nokia 9 Pure View for 2 years now. Currently my smartphone is running Android 11 software, and I see the phone lagging more and more. It gets worse and worse with each update. It seems that in this way the manufacturer artificially ages the smartphone. The Nokia 9 Purview ran best with Android 9 Oreo. An already dead battery is also a problem. I will be replacing it nibbly as I already have a new one. I checked that voltage at 60% is 3.55V, it should be 3.85V. Can this cause the smartphone to hang up? Can replacing the battery heal this phone or maybe a software downgrade? The question is will all apps work then? I would like to change the software because the video stablization does not work as in the beginning, the video after stablization is still shaky, the photo quality is also definitely worse. What do you recommend?
Replacing the battery for the new original one will fix the camera issues.
Can you tell us how can you get Android 11?
Hello, anyone knows what codes to use to test mic problems in Nokia 9 PureView?
