First thing I noticed is that the phone is sooooo slooooow. It was unbearable. I don't know if there was something wrong with the demo model, because they only had one, but it was almost unusable. Flipping between homescreens would often get stuck halfway for almost two seconds, then continue the flip. Flipping through the applications menu did the same. Occasionally it would launch the app I started the swipe on because it didn't register the swipe gesture.
I noticed the same thing about the Charge, but not the Thunderbolt. Maybe it's just software they have installed at the store?
Definitely something wrong with that demo model; homescreen lag is normal on the Charge, but I noticed the Revo was FAR smoother than the TB and Charge and the touchscreen was miles ahead of the other two in terms of responsiveness.
I have the Revo, and there is very little lag.. once and a blue moon i have it.. It is a great device. I am not a big fan of the home, so i am using adw ex and this phone is GREAT!
My Rev lags when I end a phone call. It takes about 5 seconds to exit the dialer. This phone also has issues with the Real Player App. It won't let you stream online videos while using Real Player. It has an error message that says null.
It also seems to take forever to charge. When I had the Thunderbolt, it seemed to recharge 4x as fast. I know the Thunderbolt had horrible battery life, but that was pretty much solved with a custom rom.
The 2 best things I found about this phone are Netflix and the HDMI mirroring. But without any custom roms, I regret my decision to trade in the Thunderbolt within 14 days and get the LG Revolution.
I agree a problem with demo model. I am looking to buy it soon. I have been in two verizon stores a few times to play with this phone and the competition (tb, charge). I've tried every function I can and I do see any problems yet. Homescreen, apps drawer, and swype was no lag at all.
sadly, the demo model at my local vzw was also not a good representation of the phone. it had serious touch responsiveness issues. almost swayed me to get the charge. i ended up buying the phone because the majority of reviewers from androidforums didn't have the same issue. i do experience slight lag sometimes when drawing my unlock pattern after not using the phone for awhile, but other than that little hiccup, couldn't be happier.
just got a revolution for the wife, i see no problems with any lag so far
Definitely sounds like a unique case, the Revo that I played with in the VZW store was way snappier than my charge, which has tempted me to possibly switch. Trying to figure out whether I should hold out as dev support is picking up on the Charge(to make it function quicker) or just switch to the LG.
I had two different Charges in two weeks - and now have the Rev. the Rev has better touchscreen, as others have said, and I don't see any lag at all. The interface on the Rev is so, so, so, much better than the Charge. For once, I, personally, am not overly tempted to use a different launcher. I like the widgets the few custom widgets they have, though I can't wait to de-Bing it.
I def like my revo now bing has been booted and crapware gone the ui is kinda growing on me

Am I doing something wrong, or is this just what everyone's used to? The nook color is horrible for using for, well, anything, even when I first bought it the rom was laggy and sluggish. Rooted and wiped full, tried Honeycomb, CM7, MIUI, all overclocked to 1.2Ghz, and they're all just terribly slow. I had to return my first NC due to a yellow screen, and the replacement is rooted and on CM7 right now. Simple things like scrolling through a list of apps or contacts causes the nook to think I'm tapping on the contact rather than starting to scroll, pressing back in an app hangs forever until I press it again and then it registers both back presses and goes back twice, dragging widgets is nearly impossible due to the device being horrible with recognizing a drag, every animation, app drawer, slide, touch, drag, is painfully and horribly slow.
Again, this is the exact same experience I've had over two completely different new nook colors, with multiple different ROMs, including stock and overclocked. Please, tell me I'm doing something wrong, I hate this nook more than anything in life right now and I want to fix that.
Well, the NC is not the fastest android device around, but with the latest CM7 nightly, at 1.2GHz, 32 bit framebuffer disabled in Nook Tweaks and some decently optimized/accelerated apps (ADW EX instead of whatever other launcher, Opera instead of any other non-accelerated browser, Mobo for videos, etc.) it's mostly silky smooth.
I say mostly because there are some things that could be smoother, like scrolling through lists (I wish they could stop the GC from freeing memory when scrolling once and for all) and some apps that are quite slow, like ES File Explorer (also related to the GC), but otherwise it's perfectly fine to use. I have an HTC Desire and I do notice that the Desire is slightly smoother in some areas (or much smoother when srcolling through lists), but the NC is not far behind for everyday use.
I would say that your experience is not typical. The only problem that some (but not all) people have reported that your problem resembles is touch screen problems reported when using the NC will the charger plugged in.
You MIGHT be having trouble with lots of static electricity due to dry Phoenix air and A/C use. It's a shot in the dark.
You'd probably need to try to reproduce the problem for somebody to observe. I have seen some really weird PEBKAC problems that took a fresh set of eyes to troubleshoot.
I'm on phiremod. I have a few issues with it (mainly apps that I've loaded disappearing). Right now I'm going to leave well enough alone until ice cream sandwich.
With ics, we'll have the aosp (since its also for phones), and its designed to work with 7" screen and with software buttons. ICS will give us a fantastic and stable nook color (I'm only guessing though, lol)

No issues here. I've been running 7.1RC for a while not and have no experienced anything like you say you have. True it can get sluggish at times, but never for an extended amount of time that has made it unusable.
When I used to run the old 7.0.2 stable, I noticed that having a fair amount of widgets running could cause the system to slow down. But even now with a few widgets, about 12 icons per page, and rotating wallpapers using three total pages, I use it daily and have no issues.
I have to admit I found CM7 pretty laggy before I started using the OC kernel. It's super easy now with it built into the nightlies, and it made a huge different in scrolling, etc.
That is not typical at all. I wouldn't be using (and loving) mine if it were. I am using CM7 nightly on emmc and it is a fantastic piece of work! Very responsive for what I do even without overclocking. Your experience is bad even on the stock OS so maybe it is bad hardware?
Just for kicks, I tried HC on a SanDisk 4GB class 4 card. And it is a little sluggish like you described. But not as bad and still very usable. I went back to CM7 because it is so much more responsive.
Ok, to be fair, when I say CM7 was laggy, I mean it wasn't super-silky-smooth like it is after overclocking a bit. I don't have a lot to compare to aside from a fairly new android phone (Thunderbolt). I did try a Honeycomb preview build first and that was a frustrating experience (laggy, stuff didn't work), but it was one of the earlier *preview* builds. CM7 with tablet tweaks is awesome.
To be honest, I never thought I'd register an account on XDA. Seems like theres too many pros for the noobs to fit in. Although the XDA noob video did give me some laughs.
To the OP:
Have you switched over from an Apple device? I previously had an iPhone 3g, and then a 3gs. When I switched to the Xperia X10 I thought either it was me, or the x10 was seriously messed up. It seems like it was me. I think the reason is that to scroll on the iPhone, all you need is a tiny little swiping motion to move between screens. However, it's not the case with Android phones. I found that your swiping gestures need to be a little bigger, otherwise, it's recognized as a click/tap/whatever.
I got used to it, however, I did find that installing a custom rom (CM7) helped a little.
edit:
Also, make sure you use advanced task killer or something to get rid of stuff in the background. **** running in the background Makes it slow. If it's rooted, try SetCPU and have it so that it's not ondemand, but on performance. Or, adjust the sliders until the minimum and maximum CPU speed is the same, making it run full speed all the time (Although I recommend having it set to the minimum while the screen is off.)
Apparently a major cause of the sluggishness in the scrolling of various apps and things such as form lists is due to the OS's garbage collector going nuts and trying to free memory in rapid succession. No ROM available for Nook Color solves this as it's some sort of flaw with Android 2.x itself. I don't know if Honeycomb (3.x) is better but I'm guessing that it is. Honeycomb will probably never be available in source form so Nook Color will never get it in proper form. Supposedly Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) will be released in source, but we're talking a ways off and I'm unsure of how well it will fit Nook Color's hardware.
But yeah Nook Color is very slow compared to say a notebook. The CPU is an Arm Cortex A8 which is very low power, but also very simplistic compared with desktop/notebook CPUs. This is a necessity with a handheld device. However, the newer tablets with the NVIDIA Tegra 2 SoC (for example) use a Cortex A9 dual core where each core is much superior to the Nook's CPU and it has two of them.
Nook Color is a cheap entry level tablet with a nice screen but it has a ton of quirks because in modded form it is a community project with limited resources behind it.
OP, are you installing to an sd card? Maybe the card is unsuitable (quite common problem). I actually underclock mine, installed to the internal drive. Sometimes I get a menu scroll registering as a tap, but I get that on any touch device I've tried. Overall a properly tuned nook runs pretty snappy imo.

What he said^^ are you running off SD card? I tried that at first and absolutely hated it, it was soo slow ESP. Scrolling through the interface and app drawer. I have since put phiremod 6.3 on my emc and saw a huge improvement and I'm only at 800mhz. Then I tried the v6 supercharger script and again saw an improvement in scrolling speeds and smoothness. If I OC then its very snappy! You may also try to recalibrate the screen if you are finding its not super sensitive which it is.

Oh yeah, there's also that possibility.
I don't have a nook but I've been reading up about it.
Shouldn't you have a class 4 microSD card or higher for it to run decently well?

Random block write speed is the most important thing. Sandisk 8 and 16 gig class 4 have the best performance suited to running a SD based CM7. Other brands even in class 6 or 10 have been found to be too slow and resulted in force closes and sluggish responding apps.
Nope, I'm not running it off an SD card. I think the screen issue is a problem with my nook itself; installing a drawing app and trying to draw never gives me a full line, and drawing in some places is just impossible.
As for the slowness... I must be doing something wrong then, because both my nooks have just been horrible.
That's certainly not my experience. I'm running CM7 nightly 151 off sd and I can scroll through my app drawer or through long file lists very smoothly. A simple flick moves easily through hundreds of thumbnails. The only lag I ever experience is changing web pages. Maybe I'm biased because my main computer is a netbook but I really don't think the nook is at all slow.

Do not EVER use a task killer!! This is android 2.3 not 1.5. Task killers screw everything up. Android Handel's itself and apps that task killers say are running in the background are NOT really running they are cached for quicker use. Android is smart, its Linex not windows. Also do not have your CPU going full speed 24/7. Ever heard what heat does to electronics? Its not pretty.
To op:
What version of cm7 are you using? Try a recent nightly.

I have to say I had touch response issues like "ghost taps" more often in the first month I had the NC, but they were never a constant thing, and usually resolved by turning the screen off for a second and back on. I haven't had any such issues in quite a while, though I do occasionally have to repeat a tap on the softkeys.
If you haven't, you should track down the touchscreen calibration app for the NC and see if it helps. Some people say a screen protector helped even out their touch response, too. The NC's touch response is not the greatest in general, but your issues sound extreme.
If your finger can't make solid lines in canvas or Sketchbook try recalibrating the screen using nsr (I think its called nook screen recalibrate in the market) otherwise LCD density? Any ideas anyone?
As for ghost taps I used to have that and you know what fixed it? Either cleaning the screen all.day or a screen protector. Since the screen protector I haven't had ghost taps or the zoom in zoom out craziness that the tap of the power button fixed.
OP: try an install to eMMC its quite simple if you make a cwr bootable card to install it with

To save you a search, it's here.
I currently own a HTC Wildfire, which is decent for the most part, but I'm missing some features...and I saw a heavy price drop for Nexus One, but I cant find enough information about it (all reviews seem to be highly outdated and based on the initial Android 2.1 version)...so I would like to ask a few questions:
What is the latest Android (official) version available for it?
Is it still a supported device (as in will it receive future updates or they declared that it's at it's last one)?
How good is the Flash Player 10.1 support? Is it comparable to desktop use (can play videos on all pages or if the video is high quality it'll freeze and stuff)?
How good are the games on it? Mostly referring to games such as Asphalt, Angry Birds, Order of Chaos and other "quality" games (not just the basic ones)...if possible a compatibility list or examples of the game-quality would be greatly appreciated.
[IMPORTANT] I heard there was mo multi-touch support...is it true?
Any notable flaws or features that make it better than other devices (of the same rank that is, not the latest models)?
The price I'm being offered is 140€, which is still a lot for me (with this economy =| ), so I would like to get informed before making a decision...anyone can help?
Thanks in advance!
Can only answer some of your questions.
1. The latest official version is Gingerbread 2.3.6. Released a few weeks ago
2. Not sure at the moment. I believe Ice Cream Sandwich (future release) can run on the Nexus S, so there is a chance it might show up on the Nexus One. If not, there will probably be a ROM from the devs.
3. Flash gets updated regularly from the market. Not sure it's fair to compare a phone to a desktop. So far it's going fine for me.
6. There are some notable hardware issues. The power button has been known to fail. There's also an issue with touch response that occurs every so often. Turning off the screen and turning it back on solves it. It's the biggest annoyance for me.

1. As mentioned by Liko, 2.3.6 is the latest official Android version for the N1. If you go with custom ROMs, the 2.3.7 is available through CyanogenMod on some of their later nightlies.
2. It is unknown how far the support for the N1 will go. People were speculating that it may not receive the Gingerbread update (which, obviously, isn't true). Google has not specified whether or not the N1 will receive ICS, although, I believe that it will get it. But even after official support dies, there will always be custom ROMs that will allow it to keep going (the G1 officially supports 1.6, but through developers, they have gotten it to support a limited version of 2.3).
3. Flash on phones will never be as robust as flash on desktops. There can never be support for mouseovers, and the lack of a mouse can make things difficult. Also, some sites just don't support the on phones (I know roosterteeth.com used to be one, I don't know if it has changed). But 99% of the times I have needed flash support (I enable it only when I need it), it has worked.
4. Gaming doesn't seem to be an issue with a few exceptions. Multi-touch does exist with the phone, but it is a poor implementation that does have issues sometimes. Most of the time I don't have issues with it, but sometimes with a game like SliceIt, when you are trying to use multi-touch, it goes all screwy. Other than multi-touch, the only thing that limits the N1 is a lack of more recent hardware. Some games out there require the Tegra2 processor, so those obviously won't work. But I have played all Angry Birds, Yoo Ninja, SliceIt, Cut the Rope, Death Worm, Fruit Ninja, Reckless Racing and more. I haven't ever come across performance issues other than the touch screen limitations listed above.
5. As I mentioned above, the phone does have multi-touch support. It is there, and 90% of the time it works great. I never seem to have issues with pinch-to-zoom. The main time you run into issues is when you are needing specific points that are close to a straight line on an x or y axis. It can be very spotty then.
6. There is a possibility of the powerbutton failing due to a design flaw. Most people try to find ways to minimize that by using things like Trackball Wake, and widgets and/or apps to turn off the screen and rebooting/shutting off the device. There are the multi-touch issues I mentioned above, along with sometimes the screen will just go "screwy". It is hard to explain, but just turning off the screen and turning it right back on will reset it, and it will work again. And the phone is extremely limited with internal space.
But, I do love my phone. It will be extremely hard to part with it. The AMOLED screen (if you happen to get it) is gorgeous. The phone is still quick even though it is getting close to 2 years old. It is built very well and has taken quite a few drops like a champ. Trackball notifications are AMAZING! I still don't understand why more manufacturers have not used this. The official car and home docks are very solid and I love that they have built-in connectors for those docks. And if you throw a custom ROM on there, like CyanogenMod, the phone gets 10x better.
Now with all that being said, I don't know if I can honestly recommend this phone. The biggest reason is because of its age. It does still hold up well to newer devices, but those new devices are still better. Whether they have better battery life, more internal space, or better performance. The N1 still holds its own, but it is starting to show its age.
Hi, this is David. I have the optimus 4x, and i have to admit that it's one of the best devices i've owned so far, i've just been wondering about a few issues that shouldn't exist with a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM. I will list them here and wish anyone could help.
1- The Camera
Not the video focusing issue which is fixed after the V10e update, now it's photos turn. When i open the camera, everything looks sharp and great, but it's not after capturing the photo because when i look at the photo in the gallery, it's somehow out of focus and the picture looks ugly overall. I've tried resetting the camera settings and tried other camera apps but no difference.
2-Game lags
That's something i saw people talking about and they said that these games aren't optimized for Tegra 3 because it was new in the market. So now why they're still lagging, even very basic games like subway surfers.
3-Incoming call screen lag
This screen is represented in two ring buttons (accept or reject) with waves coming out of them, i have to say this screen is very laggy so i can't just swipe my finger to accept the call but i have to do it slowly and wait a second before it's done of accepting the call.
4-Youtube
Sometimes a video lags once or twice in a 5 mins video which doesn't happen when watching other videos in gallery.
Yes, i know that's too much issues but what makes me confused is the device's overall speed when browsing the web and others... Even the benchmarks are showing excellent scores that sometimes beat the HTC one X. So what could be the problem?!
2. - on my , lags also Tegra optimized games ... so LG FW suck ... wait for JB, and after that (if stock dont fix it) come CM
Odd... I've had two different Call screens. One was with the circles to swipe like the S2/S3, the other was with square buttons to tap. Don't remeber in what app I was when the screen changed tho.
I've never noticed the lag in the incoming call screen, or maybe I didn't bother with it. As for YouTube it naever game me issues.

one is when you recieve a call while device is locked (the swype one), the other one is when you recieve the call when it's unlocked (button one)
i have no lag on youtube, gaming is great with a slowdown now-and-then (NFS MW, for example. Vice City played with no lag at all), and camera is as good as any smartphone, even though i didn't quite test it as mmuch as i should've.

Oh I see, I got the button call once when I was messing around with my phone (First day I got it).
Vice City gives me no issues whatsoever, no lag at all just a short audio pause once in a while but hadly noticeble.
NFS works well IF there are only 2-3 card rendered on-screen, otherwise the framerate just drops. I believe it's the reflections... if there would be a way to disable them on other cars and keep them on yours the game would run smooth. Funny how the lag itself gives me a warning.. if framerate drops be sure there's a roadblock ahead.
All the other games I've played so far are smooth (Asphalt 7, NOVA 3, Shadowgun.)
As for the camera, I haven't really tried it. I'm not the photo-taker kind of guy.

I don't know what's wrong with your phone. It's rather odd.
I'm on Stock ICS with v10h (no flashes, no root, I have the phone as I recieved it). I'm halfway trought Asphalt 7 same as for Vice City.
NOVA 3 gave some lag issues on the first level then it stopped. Shadowgun (Specially the second one, the multiplayer) gave me no lag at all, everything is fine.
The one thing that bugs me about the phone currently is the poor battery life. Think that if you have 2150 mAh your battery would last, but nope. It's the poor LG software and bloadware that sucks it up, I might root my phone once JB rools out to get rid of some useless services.
Hello all,
Had my Nexus 6 since launch day in the UK, and I started out really liking it, but it's getting more and more in my bad books as I live with it. Wonder if anyone who has one could look over this and tell me if these issues are standard with this device, or whether I need to get onto the network (Vodafone - what a pain)
Reboots - I'm getting a number of reboots. I know this can be app caused, and I'm working through. The main problem is that it requires a pin or swipe to start it booting up, so overnight if it happens, you've got yourself a dead phone till you physically get it going again in the morning
slowdown - I've got a couple of games, one is sky force, that worked well on my note 3, but suffers some terrible slowdown on the Nexus. No idea why this would happen with a better processor
not connecting to 5g on the router - my router has a 2 and 5 g aerial. It works fine on the 2 g, and every other device works on the 5g, but the nexus just will not connect.
slowness of starting up the camera - starting the camera can be 30 seconds.
Upside down display camera pics on some apps - KIK for eg? I know others with Lollipop who don't have this issue on their Sammys.
very bad battery - In use, heavy use, it'll be 3 hours. Average use, bit of messaging, a game, internet, could be 4 hours.
lack of focus on camcorder - it won't stay on a fixed
Slowness of booting up - Can be literally 5 minutes to boot to the main screen. Reminds me a bit of Windows at its worse!
I've had smartphones for many years, and I'm used to their foibles, like battery life and apps that cause reboots, but this is probably the most difficult phone I've had to live with!
I love the screen, the hugeness of it is just what I want, and the sound is great.
I'm getting the crashes, primarily when using the camera, doesn't reboot just stops, 3 times in a few minutes on more than one occasion. Sometimes won't connect to home WiFi without a restart. Start up is very slow. Don't suffer from the other issues. I'm on O2 4G.

[*]Reboots - I'm getting a number of reboots. I know this can be app caused, and I'm working through. The main problem is that it requires a pin or swipe to start it booting up, so overnight if it happens, you've got yourself a dead phone till you physically get it going again in the morning

This is actually looking a lot like it may be a software defect. For now, the best solution (i.e. temporary, until 5.1 comes out later this month) is to run the phone withOUT encryption. There are lots of threads around about the minor boot partition change needed to accomplish this.
[*]slowdown - I've got a couple of games, one is sky force, that worked well on my note 3, but suffers some terrible slowdown on the Nexus. No idea why this would happen with a better processor

Two reasons;
1) is that despite the better processor, anything I/O heavy will take a lot of CPU power to just handle the crypto. Hopefully, this is something that will be solved (hwcrypto) with 5.1.
2) android 5.0 has some major changes in the runtime -- ART vs Dalvik. If the application developer broke rules in building the software you are running, then it is possible that it won't work optimally on ART. Hopefully, the application developer can adapt.
[*]not connecting to 5g on the router - my router has a 2 and 5 g aerial. It works fine on the 2 g, and every other device works on the 5g, but the nexus just will not connect.

Works for me....?
Try a router with OpenWRT.
If I remember correctly, some of the OLDER 5G 802.11AC chips used in a lot of routers, like TPLINK Archer C7v1, which has a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9880-AR1A had hardware that was a bit rushed to market and failed to meet a number of the AC specifications. So if your router is such an AC, then the hardware that is working with it may be using 802.11N (older tech), whereas this phone is trying to negotiate an 802.11AC link with it, and failing. So there is a good chance that the problem is actually on the ROUTER's side, rather than the phone.
[*]slowness of starting up the camera - starting the camera can be 30 seconds.

Something not right there. Mine takes 2 seconds from pressing the camera button.
[*]Upside down display camera pics on some apps - KIK for eg? I know others with Lollipop who don't have this issue on their Sammys.

There are *two* ways to deal with orientation in jpg images; one is to write the image to the file "upright", the other is to write it to the image file as it comes from the buffer, and just give it an orientation flip flag. The software you are using *may not respect* the orientation flag.
[*]very bad battery - In use, heavy use, it'll be 3 hours. Average use, bit of messaging, a game, internet, could be 4 hours.

I'm actually finding the battery to be quite phenomenal on this device. With low-moderate usage, it will actually go for TWO ENTIRE DAYS on a charge. Usually to get that kind of battery life, I have to apply very invasive controls against google services to prevent them from setting alarms and holding wakelocks.
However, if you have the screen on high brightness and actually turned on a lot, do remember, the screen is ENORMOUS. It takes power to light it up.
[*]lack of focus on camcorder - it won't stay on a fixed

I had to check that to verify, and confirm it. That appears to be a bug in the camera application. Try a different camera program for now, and hope that 5.1 fixes it.
[*]Slowness of booting up - Can be literally 5 minutes to boot to the main screen. Reminds me a bit of Windows at its worse!

Might be software crypto, mine isn't encrypted, and literally boots right up to the unlock screen in about 10 seconds.
I've had smartphones for many years, and I'm used to their foibles, like battery life and apps that cause reboots, but this is probably the most difficult phone I've had to live with!
I love the screen, the hugeness of it is just what I want, and the sound is great.

Well, the SIZE is almost certainly what is causing you battery life issues. The rest of it is basically because you are running an early version of a MASSIVE system update and simultaneously riding on new hardware that brings in its own batch of *software* bugs. There are some bugs in it that need to be worked out, and hopefully, the majority get worked out with 5.1. There *are* google-private 5.1 builds for Nexus 6 already, so it is just a matter of waiting for them to complete QA and ship it out.
Thanks for this, really appreciate the time, I'll have a good look through later!
Found a fix for the 5ghz router issues on the Google forum.
Apparebtly the nexus favours the American 5g channels... So I've set it to 36 and 40 and its working well! Yey.
Tomorrow I'll try a cache wipe to see what else I can correct before the update.
