Back in the days of the Galaxy Nexus, there was an app to wake the phone by simply sliding your finger from left to right. It required root and a kernel that supports some feature.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...pp-mod-touchcontrol-pgm-galaxy-nexus-t1721895
It saved my power button from wearing out. I hope there will be one available for the S6. :good:
No one interested?
i think a kernel with doubletap to wake feature will be better,
I don't like double tap as it can happen accidentally in the pocket and no custom kernels for the s6 for now.
I miss my doubleTaptoWake feature from my G2. I would be so excited if someone could make this happen

I have slide to wake using nova launcher and secure settings.
In nova settings go to gesture settings - slide up (or any gesture you prefer) - secure settings - lock device.
Yoy can even apply it to just one icon instead of full screen

That's slide to lock, not the same thing as slide to wake when the device is off. Also, there are some apps that can lock the screen with a single tap.

What's a best app/widget to put a power button on your homescreen that'll put your tab to sleep? The ones that I've seen mentioned so far are Tap Tap App, Screen Off and Lock, AnyUnlock and Screen Off.
Any thoughts on which one is the best? Also, being able to wake it up with the volume rocker would be a nice option.

Quick boot.
Widgetsoid includes a nice lock widget and a reboot widget, I haven't seen anything that's expressly sleep though.
I am using button savior.

LockMyDroid
You could always use MY app, LockMyDroid.
The advantages are that it's an app instead of a widget so it offers many more ways to lock your screen. Examples:
Set it as the 'Action' for the Clock Tap in FancyWidgets
Add a shortcut to your homescreen
Hold the Home button, if it was one of the last 8 apps used (always is for me) you can lock your phone from that menu
Long-press the 'Search' button on your phone
Launch from app drawer and lock your phone

While you're at it, you could try the new Live Wallpaper that I just put on the market which I fashioned from my failed Google I/O contest entry

I use minimalistic text to call on screen off and lock.
So I touch the word lock and the screen goes out with an old TV tube animation, gingerbread style on froyo.

is there any chance to have the feature that new LG devices have (double tap on off screen to wake) on this device?
or it needs some hardware?

knockr has no problem turning on the screen. it turns off screen by making every pixel black (On AMOLED) so it can respond to double tap.
but when i double tap the screen turns on for a moment and then a blank(black) activity comes up so i have to press home button to close it.
i think that's a bug because knockr is a new beta app.
but yes i think full support like LG's need kernel support. maybe maclaw can make us a compatible kernel

Double tap to wake screen? Think LG were first to introduce this.i rembere there were some apps on play store just to do that. Some gesture apps might have that feature.
But Note 8 has alternatives. You can wake up with on screen vibrating button and you can change sensitivity. Also using AOD it has sift button to double tap.

Yes
Hard press home is a much better alternative, at least in my opinion to double tap anyway.
Just press where the home button should be (even if you can't see it) as if it was a physical button, the phone will vibrate as if you have pressed a proper button and it will turn on, or go home.

I also use long press home on s8+
The big advantage is the prevention of accidental taps since the area to tap is much smaller than the whole or half the screen area

I miss it too.... And ambient display.... It saves more juice for the battery

These are from the S8+ forum. Haven't tried the double tap. Remove battery icon, carrier hider, and remove unlock text works.
Ok, so I guess they work except for the nav bar stuff. And reboot after installation of mod
The only thing with double tap to wake or hard press the home button is you still have your security feature after that. I find it easier just to hit my fingerprint. But I use Nova for double tap to sleep.

Hmm. Yes. Sometimes just to see the notifications I do not want to hit the power button.
You can double tap the Active Display home button. It will take a HARD press or a double tap. It doesn't use the whole screen, but I like the double tap better.
Anyone know how to combine the "lockscreen" with the "pattern"... basically have the pattern always display (and hidden)? It seemed to be an option on previous devices.
I just want to turn on my screen and swipe in my pattern. Right now, the minimalist lockscreen (while pretty), requires an EXTRA unneeded swipe before pulling up the pattern view.
There are too many taps/swipes going on just to get to the desktop. May seem trivial but I'm on my phone a lot for work so I am trying to save as much time as possible.

I use the "press screen" option with the Iris recognition and works flawless. Is fast and secure. Should give a try
Yea I've experimented with that. The picture it took of my eyes was blurry af, so I don't even know how it would work. It is pretty fast though, but the point is I don't want to really pick up my phone every second. Again, I work from home and in remote Support. I typically am remoted into a couple sites and use my phone for my dedicated email screen. So every few seconds I have to unlock.
I just feel like the Active Display is a good lockscreen already. Maybe I'll just remove the "lockscreen" altogether since it just adds a bunch of extra unneeded steps. What I want is just an Active Display > Hard Press or Double Tap > Pin or Pattern. The extra lockscreen is useless.

What is active display? You mean the always on display (aod)?
Anyways I think the phone does what you are asking.. with my phone on the desk I push down on the home button and it goes from the aod to the pattern in one press of the virtual home button. Then I swipe in my pattern.
You can also lower the pressure needed for the home button

In Display > Navigation bar options, there is an option for Hard press bypass the lockscreen. It was turned off in my phone. Someone in another thread clued me in.
That works as requested. It was just in a weird place. That option should be in lockscreen, since it directly references actions with the lockscreen.

I mean it affects every aspect of the UI, so I could also see the location of it argued the other way. Guess that's why we have a search bar in settings.
Switched to iPhone (7+) for a year for the first time, generally I was happy with it. However my heart goes back to Android.
So I sold my iPhone and bought the Mate 10 instead (no cashout since iPhones hold value well).

You can swipe up in the lock screen (ala IOS control center) for some quick access to flashlight, calculator, etc.

Hi!
I'm wondering if I can lock my device without pressing the power button. In my galaxy s9+, I used the "custom navigation bar" app to add an invisible power button to the navigation bar, but this app CRASHED my note9!!!!
I spent 2 hours trying to solve the issue without losing my apps and stuff, successfully. Now I want to use another way to save my power button.
I installed an app called "home launcher" to use the home long press to call another app instead of google search, but every app to lock screen causes the fingerprint sensor to stop working without password.
I miss my old Xiaomi Mi 6
Someone knows how to do this?
you can install an app called "turn off screen (lock screen)" by redmanit from the play store. it gives you the option to put an icon on the homescreen or from your notifications drop down, press it and it'll lock your phone in 5 seconds. this is the only app i know of that works with the note 9's android 8.1
Nova launcher can do it as far as I know.
Installed a 3rd party screen off app. Using the widget Extended Date which then gives you the settings to show time/date/week/day/etc. There's a function to link to any app in this case screen off. Thus touching the date switches off the screen. Been using this setup way back when I still had my Note 2. Still works (both the screen off app and the widget).

Turn on the Assistant Menu. That has a lock button that will turn your screen off. It will not "lock" your phone, just turn off the screen. Screen locks @ whatever you've set as the lock out time (screen locks "x" number of seconds after pressing power button). If you want to "lock" it instantly, requiring password to open, I use Nova Launcher and a screen input gesture. That locks it instantly and requires, I think, your password - not your fingerprint.
