That really didn't answer my question as to why SuperSU did not install given traditional TWRP Odin Flash....how does one traditionally install SuperSU through Google Play on the Note 4 without resorting to some auto-package?
Surely not everyone on earth is using CFAuto-Root
It's the only way to root silly.
I used TWRP - and flashed the SuperSU binary via TWRP - that rooted me as well. But just confused as why SuperSU is advertised to work via google play store for root. Makes absolutely zero sense

So I've unlocked the bootloader OK and then I followed this video - qbking77.com/development/how-to-root-the-htc-one-international-sprint-att ( I cant post the link as Im a new user) and when I open superSU I get this message - "there is no SU binary installed, and superSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
Everything appeared to go ok with the root, so what have I done wrong?
I have hunted round these forums and seen other people with this problem but not with a HTC One.
I have also tried updating it through the play store but with no success, after the update the error message changes slightly to "there is no SU binary installed, and superSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device"

FIXED IT!!!!!!!!
i was using an old version of supersu - 1.25
so i downloaded v1.8 from here download.chainfire.eu/370
then went into recovery mode and flashed that
rebooted
supersu had totally gone now - no idea why....
so installed supersu from play store
opened supersu it said there was somethign wrong and did I want to reboot into cwm to fix it
it reboots
asks again if i want to fix the root
rebbots
all is ok!!!
now just need to remove all the crappy unwanted stock apps
I'm using LG G3 D858HK, Dual Sim., Android 5.0.1 (i updated it after i rooted it). I rooted it through my computer, hence it's under a system application and cannot be uninstalled through the play store. After i updated it, many of my apps (that requires rooting) couldn't be used. Error message was no SuperSu binary installed. So i decided to unroot my phone, and i couldn't even open the SuperSu app! It says, "There is no SuperSu Binary installed and Supersu couldn't install it, that's the problem! If you updated to 5.0.1, please consult the relevant forums!". I couldn't get into recovery mode as well, i used third-party apps, and they requested for root access. I tried to reboot it into recovery mode by using the buttons and it ended up factory resetting my phone.
Any suggestions?
Oh yes, and i couldn't find the stock firmware for my model as well, hence i couldn't downgrade it, any tips?
I just unlocked my bootloader, and rooted my Nexus 6, and installed TWRP 3.0.0 using the Nexus Root Toolkit.
I just installed Adaway, and unrooted it, cus I use a lot of banking apps.
But the question is, when I want to re-root it, could I just flash supersu zip with the custom recovery and that's it?
or do I have to do the root process all over again?
I remember using TWRP 2.8.6.0 on the oneplus one, and when I rebooted it from the custom recovery, it said something like
'It seems like supersu is not installed would you like to install it?' or something like that.
and 'yes' would re-root it, that simple.
it seems like TWRP 3.0.0 doesn't have that.
Thanks
You don't really want to try to root using the built-in option in TWRP - with the newer Android builds (6.x), that won't work - you need to use the current version of supersu that modifies the boot img - I prefer the systemless version.
Glad to hear that TWRP 3.x has removed the prompt for installing supersu.
You should be able to reroot.
I agree with the above, keep systemless root in twrp's readytoflash folder and boot into twrp and flash that zip as you need it.

I think I remember (but not sure) that I read that TWRP 3 is smart enough not to suggest the root option when SuperSU systemless is installed, whereas the older versions tempted unwary users to root their already-rooted device and screwed it up in the process. Smart piece of programming to remove the misleading option.
root > flash kernel (boot.img) and then supersu 2.68 (latest)
un-root > flash kernel
thats it
My device is BLU Dash X2 ( D110L ) running android 6.0 with Kernel Version 3.18.19.
It's an MTK phone ( MT6580 ).
I managed to port and flash TWRP custom recovery by myself and it's working find. So I decided to flash SuperSU.zip with it. Everything seem to be working perfectly but after the flashing finished and I tried to open SuperSU app a message pop up with text "There is no SU binary Installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem. If you just upgraded to android 5.0 you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device!".
Please help me find a solution. I tried many version of SuperSU.zip already but the same message still appear. I also tried remove SuperSU app first before re-flash SuperSU.zip. I even tried to perform a clean stock rom flash before flashing latest SuperSU.zip and it's still the same.
I have the same phone, also managed to port TWRP, working fine after edit fstab, but no way I can root this device.
Tried with phh s SuperUser instead supersu, but no avail.
My biggest regret was buy this fone, it works fine but seems impossible to root.
Sorry for late update, you can root this device with magisk, successfully done with magisk v18.00

I have just updated supersu through the play store and am now getting "Root Undetected " when I open the app. My phone is a Galaxy gt i9305 running a stock based TouchWiz 4.4.4 rom any suggestions please?
So I had to restore a backup which uses the previous SuperSu 2.79 and all is well again. Looking at the reviews on Google play store I'm not the only one having problems with version 2.80. Will this problem be getting sorted anytime soon because this is an important app for me and my confidence in using it is draining fast.
There is a version 2.81 on Google playstore right now (although it's still saying v2.80) which works fine again for me.
Same deal here. Pretty upsetting, I don't have a backup handy. Does anyone have a link to the 2.79 version that can be flashed in TWRP? If I find it first I'll post it here for others' convenience.
Yes I had same problem just 10 min ago
But I downloaded the zip of new version reflashed it ,works perfect

This one is not working for me! Just like the latest 2.8! I flash it on four devices! one fails the other three claim it was successful but there is NO SuperSu on any of the devices that I tried flashing it on with TWRP! I cannot give apps root access and it is like a device that is not rooted that was rooted before!
Anything else to try??

I installed this version. It's not working.
Thing is you install 2.79 with TWRp, after reboot. I used Root Checker Basic and Root Checker, they say no root. If you try to open SuperSu app, it will update to version 2.8. Same problem no root.
I am using Asus Zenfone ze552kl
Having the same problem on my cm14.1.....is there a solution?
Same here bro. I tried all supersu zip version 2.67 to 2.82 sr5. Version 2.82 says root undetected and below this version says supersu can't install su binary. I tried to install su binary but it says no su binary.
