[Mi3w] Wifi signal weak or disconnected after service at service center - Mi 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had gven my Mi3w(Indian version) to service center on saturday 27 June 15 due to a power button issue, and received it back on 29th June 15(yesterday) although the power button was fixed as soon as i came home i noticed that the wifi signal on my phone is weak.Previously i used to get a "good" signal strength throughout the house now even when i am sitting in the room next to the room in which the router is placed in,i get a "fair" or "poor" signal strength.Even when i am close to the router(approx 30cm) distance, the signal is just "good" and not "excellent". If i go to the far corner of the room, the wifi even gets disconnected whereas previously i used to be connected to the wifi even when i am outside the house.
I do not know if this is because of the servicing or because of some software issue.
I tried clearing cache, data, clean flashed MIUIv5,MIUIv6,developer rom,CM and AOSP based ROMS,same thing in all of them.Even the avoid poor connections option is deselected.Do i have to go back to the service center?
Hope to find some help here.Any help is appreciated.

Go Back & shout at them, seems like they have changed your motherboard & forgot to connect antenna properly. I was also going to go to Service center to get power button repaired. What questions were asked to you when you took it to service center?

No questions,i just told them the problem, they asked for the bill to check warranty and then told me i'd have to deposit the phone and they'd call me when it is fixed. thats it
Going there again....I dunno how much more longer they might keep my phone -_-

Cool, did they check which OS was installed on your phone, cause I have Mokee ROM. Also post their repair I guess phone was formatted?

Didnt check the OS or anything, the phone was not formatted and everything was as it is....i dont think they tweaked with the software part of the phone

Ahh ok, so since OS is intact they haven't changed the motherboard, probably just changed the button or done some cleaning. When you revisit ask them what have they done to sort out the button problem. If its a patch work you might have issue in 2/3 month & by that time it will be out of warranty.

I am having the same problem

I am having the same problem. They just cleaned my phone's button because I told them I am having a problem.. They cleaned it in front of me but after that I am having the problem of weak signal. It only get one point of signal and sometime it is completely vanish.. What could be the issue and what is the solution.. Is it just that they didn't fix something correctly or any other issue..

Hey, Yes, I had power button problem. They replaced the power and volume rocker in front of me. After first reboot my phone too had network issue, no network. I immediately showed him, he opened it again and adjusted the black cable running from main motherboard to antenna. Post which issue got resolved.
Check with service center again, if its under warranty. Mine is out of warranty now.

Thanks... So there is some connection between power button, volume rocker and wifi wiring... I will ask them to check it again...
Sent from my MI 3W using Tapatalk

No, I didn't want to suggest that. What happens is that to remove the power & volume rocker button, you have to remove the motherboard first, for which antenna wiring has be be disconnected. If while putting back they don't connect the wiring properly you will get issues in reception.

Hi everyone,
This karunesh, I am using mi3 for almost one year but now it started giving me trouble. Few days back it started having problem in connecting to local carrier. Whenever it's upper part is covered or in some place like under the table or bed or any basement or conference hall it always showed no network... I decided went to service center and I went, then they just wiped all the data and gave back it to me in the condition in which I purchased it and said that the last update given to it wasn't not supporting, as there are some problem in last update try to update when next update will come and I also asked them to check it's volume rocker and power button and he cleaned it in front of me... Now it has been three days since I am using it and yesterday night my network went again... And I am also having a problem with wifi after I visited service center , wifi signal that it catches is very weak, earlier it was not like this... Hence, guys please tell me, what could be the problem regarding these issue.. Is this really a software issue or there is something wrong in my phone's hardware.. What could be the reason of weak wifi signal... Sometime it is almost gone earlier it never happened to me it just started after I visited service center....
Thanks in anticipation
Seems like a hardware issue, why don't you got o service centre again and ask them to have a careful look. Service centre guys have habit of passing the buck, you have to be insisting.

Droid 3 screen stays black .

So the phone (XT860 Bell) has problems when I unlock it the screen stays black. The phone works though cause when someone calls I can still pick up as I know somewhat where the green button is. But for the rest I can't do anything.
The only way to get the phone back is to remove the battery and restart the phone. Then it works again.
Anyone else had this problem?
have you tried hard resetting it?
No will do so. But before doing that I thought maybe there is some simple solution.
After the update to 2.3.6 things went all a bit wrong I think.
If you got this after the update, I am quite confident data wipe will solve your problem. You can try wiping cache only first - this way you won't lose your configuration and might solve the problem. The update supposedly wipes cache, but maybe that didn't work properly while you were updating. Enter stock recovery and give it a try.
Hey thanks for the help. But just did a reset. Not sure what went wrong when I did the update. Did wipe. Annnnyways. Right now it's stable. Let's see if it stays like this.
Ok sadly the reset didn't fix it. It took a whole day to go black again but still happened.
Any other solutions? I am scared that it's a hardware failure...but let's hope not cause I am in Holland.
I have the droid 3 and the same exact thing is happening to me. Sorry to tell you this but it has to deal wit the connector between the keyboard and screen. I've taken mine to get checked by a "phone doctor" and they told me that. I will tell you this now ,since it is still in the early stages, it's going to get worse to the point that it will stay black. Get it fixed by a techy or get a replacement soon. Mine reached it's point today and I am going to need to get it fixed. Hope it helps.

Doesn't sound good man :-(......
Though it happened a lot the passed days since the reset ( knock on wood) only once. Do wonder why it happens less now.
Yea you can reset all you want it's going to go blank. I had to right the dial pad numbers with marker on the screen just to make calls. I say get it fixed or replaced soon
I've got the same issue here. I know the thread is old, but I'm from the Netherlands (just like eezdva) and would like to know how to repair this.

If you can't take it back and want to try to fix it yourself you need to search for a droid 3 flex cable. The one you want has the front facing camera, front sensors and earpiece speaker on it. Then head on over to ifixit for a teardown guide (sorry no repair manual yet, I plan on working on one).
I have to add that taking this phone apart to replace this part is no small feat, and it would probably be better finding a phone doctor to do it for you, or just getting a new phone.
When you buy the part, request an OEM part, I have been sent cables where the front facing camera displays sideways, or doesn't work at all. Most also don't come with the front button deflector, and that has to be transferred from the old cable.
Hope this helps
Ok . Well I don't really know what the problem is. But it went away. Actually it started I think after applying the update . I got myself another external sdcard . At a certain moment I decided to remove it and things cooled down. It now actually never happens anymore.
Well I gues you're lucky!
My screen sometimes starts all scrambled and the phone doesn't power on. Sliding the screen a couple of time sometimes helpes, but most of the time I don't really know howto get the phone working again. I think it's more stable when I leave the phone 'slided out' (don't know the right word now).
And I searched Motorolas website and found 2 reparing companies in the Netherlands. They both are authorized by Motorola, as of such I think this repair will be in warranty.
I do have to send it for repair. I don't want to take it apart because of what bitz_dv said. I'll let you know!
No Fix
When I was gone on a short holiday my college got a call from the 'authorized' motorola repair center. They can't fix my phone. I need to pay 11 euro to get it back and that's it. I tried calling them but there was no answer.
I sended my phone in on 22 may 2012 and now they decided they can't repair it. I spoke to Ted from Negri Electronics who told me to get in touch with Motorola as my warranty is still valid.
I'm a little confused, where should I go if an official repair center can't fix my phone but do tell me the repair is within warranty..
What can I do? Besides ordering the parts and take the phone apart myself..
I started my search for the flex cable... I did repair a N97 once, within the warranty period and later on sended it in and they repaired it under warranty....
Is this the cable I'm searching for:
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Motorola-Droid-3-XT862-Motherboard-Flex-Ribbon-p/mot1040660.htm
I am from Netherlands, and have the same problem with the screen, looks like many users from Netherlands do.. coincidence?
When i jst slide out the keyboard , a little bit is enough, and the screen goes black ( black screen of death ) it doesnt power on with power button.
I looked for a flex cable at ebay, and it surprised me , that cable is also doing the front camera, and speaker... My front camera wasnt working too, and speaker made strange sounds many times, so it could be that cable, but not sure.
Check my thread, i have also uploaded a video to make it more clear

Bluetooth died on my zr

So a couple of days ago, I noticed that my car wasn't reading my phone anymore via bluetooth. I thought it may be a car issue so I checked with my girlfriend's HTC one and its working perfectly. Flashed the os through the Sony pc companion repair option, the ftf that I had made as well as factory reset but nothing seems to fix the Bluetooth. It works sporadically.
I also noticed that my sound system was also not detecting on my phone. So I took it to the Sony service place. They reflashed the os and tested it and it was working. I came home and paired it with my sound dock (which is a sony) and it worked for about half a song after which it stopped working. This is frustrating. Is this a hardware or software issue?
Sent from my C5502 using Tapatalk 2
Same problem too.
All bluetooth devices can't connect to my Xperia zr, even search it.
This occured after I update my ZR to 4.22. At first it might be software problem, I thought, so I flashed back to 4.12.
But still the same...
Suddenly, after half an our, my SBH20 can connect to my phone, I was so happy that the problem finally solved.
So I start to reinstall my favorite games from googleplay... Than, the bluetooth die again.
Maybe is both software and hardware problem?
Doesn't sound good at all. I will test mine and check.

I'm happy with that the Xperia A finally works well with my Jawbone Era, my GNexus keeps stop pass calls/sounds to my Era.
I'm fine in stock ROM 4.1.2
Unfortunately I'm facing the same issues here.
I searched around and the "Bluetooth Problem" affects other phones as well with similar symptoms, so it's most likely the software that's giving problems. There were varying success with setting the visibility to never timeout. I tried that and it worked for a short while, sadly now Bluetooth is MIA again...
The problem with this problem is that it's hard to nail down the root cause or reproduce consistently, so workable solutions are hard to find. There's an app on the Play store that claims to fix Bluetooth problems but it requires rooting, so I couldn't try it out.
Hmms looks like updating to 4.2.2 doesn't solve the problem for some of you... less rush for me to upgrade then.
Yeah, I also tried one factory reset on the phone, putting it in/out of flight mode, turning the phone on/off, and even toggling Bluetooth quickly trying to "jump-start" the underlying processes. The only change I noticed was when I was attempting the last option, I could briefly see the phone trying to disconnect from my car's Bluetooth, so it looked like something might have worked. For now, I'm just trying to live with the inconvenience every weekend when I drive.
I just find that my wifi will be disconnected by power saving mode and it won't back to work when I switch power saving mode off. Unless I have to disable all power saving mode and reboot. Would you please give it a try to switch power saving off and reboot the phone see if there's any help to the Bluetooth issue. I do only switch on power saving at night before sleep and give it a reboot every time the wifi don't work. That might be why I'm not experiencing Bluetooth issue in daytime. Could anyone can try and send some feedback please.

Nope. No solution here. Will just have to go visit the service center again on Saturday. Need to find a phone with a micro sim to use while Sony tries to fix this problem. I doubt it is software related. Probably a hardware issue.

I sent my ZR to service center yesterday, and they called me a few minutes ago.
The engineer said that" Your phone is fine here and I return it back to the center, did you forget to turn on your bluetooth setting?"
Umm...what the...
I believe that he didn't do anything about "testing".
Maybe tomorrow I'll go to service center and check, hope it do recovered...

I'm wondering ...
Is that SD card module or SIM card module caused this problem?
When I test my phone in service center, bluetooth was great, but after 5 minutes I set my SIM card and SD card in and reboot,it died again.
I guess the clue is between OS reflashed and SD card/SIM card, or even battery?
Guys.. still no news about the Bluetooth issue ??
have you tried Factory Reset / Re-installing software using PC Companion ? ,i want to buy this phone within week.. but i'm afraid of there hardware issues you guys facing !!

They have no idea about how engineer fixed it, but it seems that they decomposed it and did something.
Because my warranty sticker was gone and the cover inside the battery slot is a little bit raised.
My phone is good right now, thanks guys!
yea but over at my side... Sony Singapore doesnt even wanna repair or have anything to do with phones that they didnt sell... (Yes ZR isnt sold here so I've got an export set)
so if theres any news, i'll be glad: D
Does there anyone try to check up your BT MAC address? I've met a strange thing on my GNexus. That phone from NTT too but not officially unlock network lock. the seller just flash some half done unlock tweak to it, then I found there are many NTT GNexus user have the same BT MAC as my phone does. and that cause us can't use BT trans file between GNexus and BT headset will drop link if there are two GNexus near by.
I've manually change the BT MAC to a new MAC (my old & not use BT headset's MAC) to get it fixed. If there is no clue to fix your BT issue, maybe you can try to learn how to edit your BT MAC on android.
BTW: does any of you who met the BT issue uses Xperia A SO-04E from NTT(the phone with 32GB build-in rom)? or all are 8GB international edition?

Dead screen ?

My phone's screen just went black suddenly while i was using the phone last night. Nothing i do will wake the screen up, i tried rebooting by holding the power button, tried power+volume down also to boot into recovery .. no response. However the phone seems to be functioning as i can hear the screen lock sound. I think im stuck on the pin screen (the one to pass the boot-up-encryption). theres some vibration and feedback when i randomly press on the screen too.
The device is running Stock 6.0.1 , unrooted , stock kernel. Has this ever happened to anyone else ? could it be a software issue ?
I believe the LCD panel just went dead ..
Thanks!
Have you hooked it up to a computer and tried to see if it's recognised by ADB?

I had a nexus that had a faulty screen and randomly shut off or something half the screen will glitch out and one day it just stopped working but I could hear the lockscreen sounds. Your best bet would be to send it in for service maybe its a loose connecting or a hardware issue. When mine started acting up it was a loose connecting so if I hit the phone with my hand it would go back to normal and then it stopped working. Its a common issue if you do a google search many people have encountered this
That sounds to me like a return-under-warranty job. If you were in the UK you could quote the Sale of Goods Act, which specifies that an item must be of suitable quality and last a reasonable amount of time, but in my case when I returned my faulty N5 to Google after 18 months they were as good as gold, didn't quibble, simply replaced it with a refurbished one which appeared to me to be indistinguishable from brand new.
Since by definition your phone must be very close to its warranty period, depending on when you got it, I'd start with that. This is the link I used from the UK - maybe different if you're elsewhere, but you should find a link called "Get a call from a hardware specialist":

That makes sense. could be just a loose connector between the LCD panel and the MoBo ..
Problem is i live in Jordan and I got the phone from Dubai. Its still under warranty of the seller (Souq.com ; an online store .. kind of like Amazon of the middle east ), So i have to send my phone to Dubai to fix it. Now i could just go to a local phone repair shop and ask the guy to check the connectors, but im afraid that would void the warranty and not solve the problem ;( .

Pixel 4xl stuck on 50% . Switches off randomly and has a battery symbol with a (?).

Hi All.
Battery stuck on 50% won't change even when charge or discharge. Today it randomly shutdown in my pocket. and then had a battery symbol with a ?. The phone eventually turned on, I've tried turning off location, rebooting still having issues. Sometimes the battery saving mode stops working, i.e. it cannot be turned on. As I can see the problem concerns a large group of users and nobody knows what this problem is related to. Google is silent as usual. Is this a problem with the software or components ?! I am in a bad situation because I have no warranty for the device and I do not know where to send the phone in Poland because no one knows what is the cause of the problem. Help me please.

Now squeeze the phone around the G logo on the back (like you're trying to compress it).
Now turn it back on and charge normally.
This is potentially only a temporary fix as I have no idea how this would be software related.
If you can enter bootloader mode, you still have chance to save your phone by yourself :
(1)Make sure there is fastboot&ADB tool in your computer
If you don't have it, please download from here(https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools). To click the one depends on which one of OS you have and then install in your computer
(2)Download google factory image file from here(https://developers.google.com/android/images). To choose the model of your phone and download it then extract file.
(3)Reboot your phone to bootloader mode. Then use USB cable and make phone connected to your computer USB port. Then execute the window commend mode. key in
fastboot devices ===> make sure your phone being catched by your computer
flash-all ===> To build up a whole new pixel OS in your phone.
Good luck !

Ive had my pixel 4 xl since november and it just started automatically shutting off when in my pocket all by it self a few weeks ago , took cell phone to my sevice provider and they sent it in for repair ...received a new phone ...well refurbished p4 xl only to have if start happening again days later and have the 50% battery start happening also ....contacted google and they are in the process of sending me a new refurbished p4 xl , so this will be my 3 rd p4 xl ..lol
very frustrating to say the least ....ive had to hard reboot my phone at least 20 times a day or basically keep it out of any pockets , the is common issue apparently with pixels phones from what i've read in the link https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/22397169?hl=en
I've talked with loyalty department at my service provider and if it happens again with the pixel that google sends me , then they will allow me to void my contract and supply me with a new device from a different brand ...ie Samsung or apple or whatever else is available on the market right now on there website.
i'll be really bummed if i have to switch to a samsung or apple buuuuuut need a stable device ...lol
So to anyone having this issue that still has a basic warranty, there are at least 2 options ...rma device over and over till you get one that doesn't have this problem or contact service provider and explain your situation and most likely they will be understanding to the fact that you have purchased a 1200.00 phone that requires constant rma's and hopefully allow you to exchange for a different brand of phone that doesn't have this these problems

I fully understand you. I am in a worse position. As a loyal Google fan, I bought my pixel from someone who didn't have a proof of purchase. In Poland it was difficult to get it, and as it was 1.5 times more expensive than everywhere else. It seems that I can throw out the pixel and buy another phone for a lot of money. I am most annoyed by the company's attitude. It looks like they are xxxxx on us.

This is the "No Warranty Solution" : Flash a full factory image and allow it to completely wipe your phone. This is the second step Google support would give you (the first is doing a factory data reset from Recovery). If after flashing your phone, restoring it to the original "out of the box" state, you still have a battery issue, then the next step is to replace your battery. If you forgot to state in your OP that your bootloader is still locked (so you can't flash the image) then you need to do that first. Bottom line is you need to factory reset the phone to rule out a software issue. If the restored phone still has the same problem, then you need to focus on the hardware. Best of luck. :good:

Same happened to me with 4 XL 64.
I've been able to "fix" with the turn off and squeeze but the problem has turned into the battery discharge displayed gets stuck at a percentage and it won't charge. I have to turn off & squeeze to get it back.
Finally called Google and they are making me send my phone in for repair. Now I assume for turnaround sake, they'll just send me a new refurb back. That also means I'm not confident the problem will be resolved as there are over 150 replies on the Google Support page identifying this problem.
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/25796722
Looks like some folks are getting a replacement before sending the problem phone back but others are required to send it in or drop off at repair facility.
Good for me? I have Preferred Care and I'll keep sending them back until I get one that works.
Bad for me? I'll have to keep sending them back + I splurged on the orange color so I doubt I'll ever see that again.
I've actually dealt with this. This is a hardware issue. I had the same problem. Covered by warranty, I took it to ubreakitifix after contacting Google and they took care of me. Trust me this isn't a issue where you can flash this or squeeze that. This is a hardware issue on Google's part. There's nothing you can do as a phone user about a defective battery in a 6+ month old $1000 phone

You might be able to convince them to send you a device before you ship it off, citing the current global situation and a need for a cell phone
OP lives in Poland and has no receipts or warranty. Poland is not a supported country so he is looking for "non-warranty" solutions.

The return process was pretty great. I shipped my existing phone off on a Monday (Illinois to Texas) and by the following Monday, I received my exact phone back (has a screen protector on it). I was very satisfied with that. HOWEVER, the "repair" still has an issue where if I charge to 100%, the icon stays at 100% until I reboot and then it'll display the correct battery %.
The repair documentation was a bit vague and said they replaced the "charging port". I still believe there's a unannounced hardware issue. Can anyone say, class action????

I wonder what the next step would be if I started another repair claim?
Holding the power button down for more than 3 consecutive seemed to solve a similar issue for me. My P4 was holding certain percentages for too long (even though the phone actually lost more).

This post seems to have been ignored. If it happens to me, I'll try that. But my carrier purchase didn't qualify for Google extended care add-on. Standard warranty only. Does that make a difference in what Google would do in this case?
I use Accubattery and monitor charge cycles for "battery wear". Even following "Battery College" recommendations, battery health has dropped from 99 to 95%; I've had the P4XL since November. I'm now slowing the charge, getting away from power delivery to see if that helps slow the wear. SOT varies greatly per charge.
I use a belt pouch for carrying phone while away from home. Rarely, I put it in my pocket but do so at home- front pocket only- never back pocket. May just be bad phone batteries from what I've read.

For 5 weeks my Pixel has been in the authorized repair center in Germany. They don't have parts to fix it. They told me that. It is not known how long this may take. I haven't had such a circus with a good smartphone. I love Google products, but I feel very disappointed because Pixel cost me a lot of money and this is definitely a factory defect.

Sorry to hear this, and surprising, as Germany is a supported country with many authorized repair centers. Did you send it to PSC? They claim to be Google-certified and have all factory parts? COVID-19 may also be delaying things. Hope things turn out well for you. :good:

Question Redmi 9T suddenly blackout after rebooted accidentally

Help me please. Just now my Redmi 9T doesn’t want to open after I accidentally rebooted it after charging. I already tried the long press power button also the volume up and down.
Is it overheated?
Will it power on with the charger connected?
It’s not over heated. No, the power won’t open even if I tried to charged it again. My friends said that it’s dead boot and idk what that is.
Sounds like a mobo failure.
Maybe someone here has seen this before.
Someone said from a group that it’s a system failure update.

Bricked? Damn...
I don't update my 10+... now you know one of the reasons why.
You may have no other option but to bring that thing to a service center near you
@maeyyang can I ask if you updated its system prior to the incident?
I also am encountering this problem you posted. How's your phone now?
I also facing this issue.. any updates on your device?

brought it to the nearest service center, they said i have to wait for 1-2 months :/
they said that it's a mainboard's problem
I search videos on YouTube. The same issues occurred on Poco M3. They said that the issue is on the main board, specifically the power IC.The solution is just reheating the soldered IC on the board.
Here is the sample video:

That's a BGA. The heat has to be precisely controlled with a hot air station by someone that knows what they're doing. Too little heat/time nothing happens, too much you destroy it and the PCB maybe too.
These are the hardest SMs to deal with.
There's no guarantee that that's the problem and no way to inspect it without a factory test rig*.
All the contacts are underneath. It maybe another SM component that has the cracked solder joint. There are a lot of components in the power section. That maybe a common problem but not the only one...
*you can try gently pressing down on the chipset to see if it triggers an event.
I think it's better to just take it to the service center for the mainboard replacement and I heard about users who did the same method in the video had recurring problems after doing that.
Opening the back cover of the handset also voids the warranty and that's really bad.
