I had a great working rom of CG7. Everything was working great. Then I installed the Battery Icon mod 1.0
I rooted my phone with Z4root, and used the rom manager from clockworks to apply the CyanogenMod 7 rom.
I have ADB installed, but I can never get it to connect to my phone. I was about to give up when I found Z4root. The use of z4root and rom manager made it so simple.
I had it all working great, loving it.....
Then I mess it up with a battery widget.
I performed a backup of my stock rom from within rom manager, and it is saved on the sd card. I can't access it because of being stuck in a loop.
If I pull the card, and use an adapter I can read it on my laptop most likely. But what to read it with, to apply it back to the phone?
I have superoneclick installed, but don't see how to use it either...
But since it appears I half to use ADB and I have been having no luck with it, is there any other options for me to try?
I thought I could use some key command such as home plus power to bring up the commands to read my recovery, wipe data and restore but am not figuring it out.
Maybe I'm just freaking out since I'm going on no sleep, but can anyone please help an eager to learn noob out?
I'd really appreciate it. Apologies ahead of time if this is the wrong sub-forum, but it looked the closest for this topic.
Thanks,
-Joe
dude first of all read the forum rules and watch your language no ones going to help u with that attitude. seconnd if u had bothered to look around first you would realize that there are about 50 threads on how to fix a boot loop.
Sorry for any bad language. I edited it out, sorry.
I had bothered to look around for about an hour, and all threads kept pointing me back to using ADB push commands which I haven't been having much luck with.
Do you know of a better way to fix a boot looping hero? Or can at least point me in the right direction, I can and am willing to learn more, but just keep running into the same answers.
Again, sorry about any language, but if you can spare a link in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
Have you tried pulling the battery and then restarting the phone by holding down the volume key ( down) and the power Burton at the same time? This will put you in the boot loader and if you push the" home" Burton that should put you into recovery. From there, wipe data, cache, system and either restore a backup ( IF you did a nandroid), or flash a new Rom.
Then, reboot.
You need to do lot more reading of different threads because you will see that bootloops are a common occurrence. Just because something is hero cdma does not mean it will work with your particular Rom. Battery mods are built for that specific Rom and that specific build ( like 5/23 aosp/cm7); a battery mod from April probably won't work.
Flashing IS a gateway drug!
Reflash cm7 and don't try the batt mod anymore.

As far as your adb issue. If you tap on my avatar you can find my thread on how to install adb on windows it might help you as you might just be having problem with the htc drivers. Also if you need help with installing it just pm me. And if you haven't figured out your bootloop problem hit me with a pm and if I can help I will. Good luck.

*hooray*
"holding down the volume key and the power Burton at the same time"
This did the trick this time, phew
This was the menu I was looking for. I reflashed my stock rom and all is well.
Then I just reflashed CM7 and will be avoiding the battery app. Lost all my settings because I hadn't backed up my CM7 rom (doh, live and learn)
Yes I can see that flashing IS a gateway drug! Once you get more comfortable and start understanding it, it is addictive to keep going further and further lol.
I'll keep messing with ADB, as I did get it to see the phone, just it has been 15 years since my days of messing with basically MS-DOS for all my command lines.
I was able to see the phone at one point but keep having trouble getting to the tools directory to start via DOS.
I'm hoping as I read more that maybe there is a better GUI for rooting and modifying other than ADB.
Thanks for the help, now I feel a little better equipped to go further.
I have been hearing a lot that the DROID 4 and the DROID Razr are very simaliar... If thats true then is there a Possibility that the Razr fastboot files cold work on the DROID 4?
The hardware is identical.....
EXCEPT for the keyboard (maybe the screen, too??). If you have a spare Droid 4 laying around, why not?
For even the above casual user this might be a little much. I haven't had much luck with getting my fully functioning Droid 4 to be recognized by RSDLite.
Although, I do want to know from the developer here, HOW CAN I HELP??
I don't want to just take take take, some of us want to give back.
I bricked my spare Droid 4, and everyone should be really careful with SafeStrap, and backup everything (including the webtop).

Droid RAZR fastboot files would probably work on the Droid 4, IF we had unlocked bootloaders. I have tried every combination of DR fastboot files on the D4 and the /system/ partition is never properly signed for the D4.
We need a full Droid 4 update or Droid 4 fastboot files to get back to working order, the Razr won't cut it.
Without trying to sound too stupid here(lol), but could we not make a stock nandroid backup and dump the image in the fastboot file by chance, and change the md5 inside zip?
The problem is not hardware, but rather encryption. Quite simply, we need a properly signed and encrypted software bundle to load on the locked bootloader. If we could sign and encrypt the bundle ourselves, the locked bootloader would not be an issue. The Droid Razr is a different phone with a different encryption key, so we can't use those fastboot files on a D4. We also can't sign our own Nandroid, so we can't load that either.

Is there anything that I can do to help?
I'm really eager to get into Android development, and would be willing to pursue the path in getting these signed drivers.
I don't think this will be a problem for much longer. http://www.droid-life.com/2012/03/20/motorola-razr-gsm-bootloader-bypass-discovered-could-work-on-lte-razr/

Yeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!! Oh, this would be EXCELLENT.
GOOGLE IT!!!! Fastboot files are now out for the Droid 4!!!!!
Hello fellow Bionic users!
I have a bit of a dilemma that I'm not sure on what to do.
Tried using the FXZ method. My phone goes to Safestrap mode and that's it. No boot to OS at all. So unless my ignorance is that bad, I don't think it works.
I was looking at the Fastboot method, but I cannot find any working links.
TL;DR Device is soft-bricked, or maybe even hard-bricked. But I'm determined to figure it out. Just looking for some more technical help.
TiA!
Go here and use Timmy10shoes files if needed...http://androidforums.com/bionic-all-things-root/480176-how-flash-5-5-893-5-9-902-rsdlite.html
OK, I have a Droid 3, that I messed up. I spent the last week searching to find a solution, but this has only left me more confused than ever. When I find what looks promising the links to the file don't work. I am a bit overwhelmed now and need help.
Here is what happened. I installed ClockWorkMod Rom Manager on my rooted Droid 3. I tried to make a backup, this did not work. I then found ClockWorkMod Droid 3 Recovery Bootstrap, this worked then I made a backup. I then tried to load cyanogenmod this failed. Now the phone is stuck on the Motorola Logo, I left it on overnight and it was still stuck. Now I can reboot +X , but I only get the Android System Recovery, but it doesn’t see the backup made by Droid 3 Recovery. The phone does not boot to the Droid 3 Recovery menu (or atleast I don’t know how).
I can also get to the “Boot Mode Selection Menu 0A.64” but I am more confused about all these options. I tried looking for file to flash but I can’t figure this out. The options I have on this menu are;
Normal Powerup
Recovery
AP Fast Boot
BP SBF Flash Mode
BP Only
BP HW Diag & Boot AP
BP Tools
I was able to connect my phone to the pc, but I don’t know how to use any of these options or what software I need on the PC to make this work. Yes I am a noob and this is my first post.
So, how can I get my phone to work again?
Please help, Thanks
The best idea is to use RSD Lite with AP Fastboot to restore an SBF to bring the phone to scratch.
sd_shadow has a great resource here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/...gVAeQXxSkaLPlBAAw/edit#heading=h.lpb8vdlj146l
But, to save some time, you'll find the SBF files that you want here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/...gVAeQXxSkaLPlBAAw/edit#heading=h.lpb8vdlj146l
You want the download link in the third line, under build number 5.5.1_84_D3G-66_M2-10
Blur_Version.5.7.906.XT862.Verizon.en.US
To get to AP fastboot mode, follow this: https://docs.google.com/document/d/...AeQXxSkaLPlBAAw/edit#bookmark=id.xj82g0jvczjr
For RSD Lite instructions, see this: https://docs.google.com/document/d/...AeQXxSkaLPlBAAw/edit#bookmark=id.77zigoazhz70
And give a big thanks to sd_shadow for collecting all of those instructions in one place. Totally awesome.
Thanks, that worked great. My phone is working again.
Now on a slightly paranoid note, how can you be sure that the file that was used to program the phone is truely the stock version from verizon and does not contain any malware?

The locked bootloader prevents anything that isn't official motorola from being flashed to the phone

I started my list, for a few reasons, because like you I post on several other forum's, good threads don't get stickied, stickied threads get outdated very fast and don't get updated because the OP, has moved on to another device
I'm also working on uploading sbfs and xml file to
dev host and android file host

Did you figure it out if not I did the sane to this phone and fixed it and I'll help you if you didn't fix it

Sounds like he fixed it.
Hey every one I'm in desperate need of help. Its been about a week and seeked help from other places and you guys are my last hope. As the title states, My '12 model Nexus 7 is suck in a boot loop after trying to update. I really didn't want to, but the darn notifications just would not stop. I've cleared the cache in recovery mode as of right now.
My main thing is to be able to save all my data before flashing the device. I hear there are ways to still root the device while stuck in a loop and recovering data then. True? I don't know, I just want my pictures and important files. Please, I beg for all your help and I will be greatly thankful for any ideas. Thanks in advance.
My Nexus is completely stock just so everyone knows.

Can you access the bootloader? The thing is, in order to root Nexus 7 you need to unlock it via fastboot. Unfortunately unlocking the bootloader implies the act of wiping all data on your tablet.
I'm not sure if stock recovery let you use the adb (I've never used it), but if it does you can use it to pull all your photos and important files out of it before flashing a new image (usually, on CWR, you can do this using a "sideload" option in recovery...something like "update via sideload").
Without an unlocked booloader there aren't many things you can do to save your Nexus 7...

Well, unless you are unlocked already this may not work. I had a similar issue but my Nexus was unlocked and rooted. I was playing around with the OTA 4.3 release and got stuck in bootloop and no adb when trying to reroot. What I had to do was use Wug's toolkit and do the BACK TO STOCK 4.2.2 with the current status set to soft-bricked/bootloop. (I also had to plug and unplug from the computer repeated times in order to get adb and fastboot to work while within this script). That allowed me to get unstuck. I then had to use Nexus 7 Toolkit to regain root as Wug would not work for some reason. I am currently back on my favorite 4.2.2 custom rom. Again, you might have to be unlocked already and you will loose your data. This is why i use DRIVE and SKYDRIVE to store backups. You never know what might happen with a device with no removable storage.
As far as the USB driver, the only thing that worked for me was to load the android sdk onto my computer. The other methods failed at this point. Again, crazy stuff was going on.
However, I was able to get to the file system when connected to the computer and could see my media file. My N7 was doing some wonky stuff.
Try using the Nexus Root Toolkit (by Wugfresh), there is an option to Restore+Unroot that will put the device back to pristine condition. When you select that there are two other options that go along with it, one is the table is booting normally, the other is stuck in a boot loop. Select the option that you are stuck in a boot loop and hopefully you can get yourself back to a working tablet, then root and do all the other stuff.
