Just bricked my Sprint S6, and switched to TMO. Is there a method to rooting this phone that does not trip KNOX? Also is there a safe way to root the new software update....?
Thanks in advance
If you're still on 5.0.2 you can use Ping Pong. I believe that if you're on 5.1.1 you're going to trip Knox whatever you do (for now).

I have a rooted SM-N900A and am confused about the compatibility of my device and available ROMs and other flashware out there. A matrix would really help, because I see GN3 goodies on XDA and don't want to flash the wrong thing. Not a lot targeted for 900A specifically.
Obvious to me are the ATT, T-Mobile, Verizon labels. I know I am ATT variant, US, snapdragon, android 4.3, build N900AUCUBMI9.
What I don't know is how code for 900/9005/MJ7/MJ3/MJ6/MJ8/MI7 might affect my MI9. Which are most likely to be compatible with my hardware? And which will most likely brick me?
Regardless if I flash (not sure I'm ready to set Knox 0x1), can someone please recommend a VARIANT COMPATIBILITY GUIDE I can cross-reference? Sticky anywhere? Its not just ROMs, its so I can better follow GN3 threads in general. Thanks!

You can't flash any roms, we have a locked bootloader

I'm pretty sure it can be done using Odin, but it would absolutely void my warranty by tripping Knox flag to 0x1.
Anyone seen a compatibility matrix across variants?

Like stated previously, you can't flash any roms because we have a locked bootloader. Safestrap has been achieved for the Verizon note 3 (also locked bootloader). They're working on our phone...

Go ahead try with Odin. Don't listen to what other people said and then make a post as to why you bricked your phone or why it's all messed up.

Hey there,
I have read through tons of threads and google searches but I can't seem to find a straight answer with a guide. I just got an S5 G900A (AT&T) Preloaded with 5.0 Lolipop. I'm wanting to know is there a way to root the phone without tripping Knox?
I currently use an S3 with 4.1.1 that does what I need, All I'm wanting to be able to do to the S5 is load FoxFi & Titanium Backup to use as a hotspot and remove bloatware, I'm still within my 2 weeks if the phone is unable to be rooted I really have no need for it and able to return at this moment as It has only been powered on to check.
Thanks
No way to root 5.0 on the S5 at this point. I seriously doubt a method will come out before your return period. If root is that important to you, return it.

Have you found a way yet?

I would love to know this as well. Can't find anything for Samsung-SM-G900A Baseband BOC4
EDIT: After reading through a lot of threads I found that there is currently NO DOWNGRADE OR ROOTING METHOD for those on stock OTA 5.0 Lollipop. This for AT&T SM-G900A Baseband OC4.
The s5 on lollipop is completely unrootable

Has to be on 4.4.2
Check with your carrier, they may provide the previous version. I.E. Downgrade. If on original carrier that is.
Now if I did a warranty exchange will it be pre loaded wit oc4 or of4 because I'm hoping not. What are my chances.

Extra slim to none, it'll most likely have most current firmware.

I've never had any hiccups rooting any galaxy always choosing chainfire method .
Just picked up s6 and updated to 5.1.1
As I'm looking around posts it's not telling me a lot about root options without any issues ..I see more about issues on 5.1.1 camera issues etc...after root and having to flash boot.bin ?
What is the current safest method to root the 5.1.1 update ,Is it still using chainfire 5.0.2 root
Last thing I want is problems .
A link and quick rundown would be awesome
Like i mentioned I've never felt the need ever to ask about rooting any galaxy s4 S5 etc.... except this time seems necessary

I am having the same issue as OP. I don't know how he feels about it, but I don't care about KNOX! Help! Pingpong seemed the safest alternative after multiple attempts using ODIN always resulting in soft brick. Pinpong apparently isn't updated for the S6 even though I got the link in the T-mobile thread for the S6

If you do care about KNOX:
Look up "engineer boatloader" on the forums. I have never used this method before, so beware. Fingerprint scanner might not work!

I thought that method only gives you a temp root as it causes issues with calling and/or wifi, so you use it just to unlock then revert back to gain functionality?

The first method jeffrelyn_ posted is what you need if you don't care about Knox. Issues with calling were only when the method was first created, but has been patched for a while now so no issues, and it is a permanent root
The engineering bootloader is the only method that has a problem because the fingerprint reader does not function

The whole process looks like a sh!t show. Which is why I'm just gonna stick with stock.

Alright, if you don't care about KNOX:
Get the correct version of TWRP for your device. Flash using ODIN. Might as well flash the latest bootloader and modem if you haven't done so already (flash entire firmware package if you can't find the modem/bootloader only).
Now, grab the latest Unikernel from the Unified Development forum. Flash using ODIN/TWRP, your choice (pick the right one!).
Download SuperSU from the Play Store. ??? Profit!

I already have the correct version of TWRP for my phone but I don't know how to go about flashing it with ODIN. I'm kind of new to Samsung and ODIN and I am kind of ignorant to this whole process, but I want to learn!!
So I just flash TWRP directly?
Sent from my SM-G920T using XDA Free mobile app
I mean flash it to the phone using ODIN directly as I do not have root yet. Which I thought would make TWRP useless

Justbwantd to add I rooted with unikernel tar like 5 days ago and all went fine .Finger scanner works too..

Hi all,
Just picked up a SM-G925A (AT&T). Had a few questions if anyone has some time to spare.
- Is there currently a root available for G925AUCU3BOJ7?
- Tripping KNOX does nothing but void warranty correct?
- Is G925AUCU3BOJ7 the newest update? I've checked for updates and it says your software is up to date but i see posting regarding a "OJ9"
Thanks!
There is no root for OJ7 or above
Tripping Knox has been known to prevent deep sleep on other Galaxy phones.
Current firmware is PD6 marshmallow. It is being sent out in waves so you should get it soon.

Is it possible for me to downgrade?
I see this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...din-files-return-to-stock-att-galaxy-t3106909
Could I Flash these and go downwards and then root? Or is this unadvised? I just purchased the phone and it came with this firmware
Downgrading is not possible
