Android M [Official Firmware] - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Gents,
Does Google normally release new beta versions of "preview" firmwares? Currently there is shamu-MPZ44Q-preview-c1d6506a.tgz

There will be two more preview releases before the official release. Next preview is expected within the next couple weeks.

Google has said they plan to do a monthly-ish, update of the preview up until it's official release. That should put the update (preview 2) ready for release any day now. MPZ44Q is the only build of M currently available.

[Discussion] Android 7.0 Nougat released for Nexus devices!

Seeing as there is no thread for the OP3 discussing Nougat as it pertains to this device, I though I would start a discussion thread.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android-nougat-finally-released-get-it-now/
Android 7.0 was released August 22nd 2016 for the Nexus 5X, Pixel C, and Nexus 9 tablet. The factory images are available for download. Interestingly, Google also announced that the LG V20 will be the first device to launch with 7.0, meaning the Marlin and Sailfish nexuses are a bit farther away.
Hopefully OnePlus releases 7.0 for the OP3 sooner rather than later...
Edit: Nexus 6 and 6P have yet to receive OTA, but are expected to receive it soon
Hope they release the source soon so that the custom roms start popping up
What's the typical time frame from update to aosp I thought they were at the same time in the past

Since the OP3 devs are awesome, i'd guess there will be unofficial builds of CM before OnePlus releases the official OOS Nougat build. Although obviously early CM Nougat builds may not be 100% stable, but will obviously improve over time.
Now to wait for the AOSP drop and for someone talented to put together a ROM
Of course a custom ROM will come first, OOS takes far too long for what little changes it has.
I hope @Grarak will do his magic when the sources are available!
CM14 will take a long time (don't quote me on this but I guess it will be somewhere around December)
Jesus I cannot wait to try Nougat
Is it just me waiting for the OOS version of Nougat?
If you go by Android 6 releases, it took Oneplus ~9 months to release it after official release, so I expect the OnePlus 3 to receive Android 7 in May 2017.
AOSP sources have been updated soo. If someone wants to cook something up the resources are there.

You're not the only one. The only thing better than stock Android is OOS.

Sounds great. Would be great to see nougat soon.
Android N does not look to be a giant leap from M so I don't think it will take OnePlus that long to get a beta or full release out

yeah, just multiwindow and vr support and little little design changes + some changes to doze. testing the final release on my 5x.
Moreover OP have to adjust the drivers for nougat...
The OP3 ist my daily driver, so i want a stable build.
I dont think oneplus will take longer time to update to android n. They may have learnt their mistakes they did in oneplus 2 and might not repeat this time. This is just my opinion.
If OP releases a stable Nougat build before the end of the year I would consider that a success. More importantly, I'd like them to release their camera source code so that it can be used in Aosp or CM based ROMs

Android n final code

Why is 7.0 based on M Preview 2 from last July? This doesn't make sense. Android police The first official build of Nougat is NRD90M and tagged v7.0.0_r1. Unfortunately, this one is based on M Preview 2. Yes, you read that right... The final build of Nougat is based on the second developer preview of Marshmallow. That means development on many of the new features of 7.0 had to have started sometime around July of last year.

That's a question for Google.
When we look at the results of G-software policy we can see:
1. Bad ui for amoled displays (too white; battery drain).
2. Monthly update only for recent devices.
3. No valid arguments for monthly updates.
4. Many requests for dark ui - ignored.
5. RRO layers available; but root acces needed.
6. Updates of G-apps without need.
7. Making root acces more difficult.
8. Pesky G-search bar not removable.
9. More bloatware.
We could have too high expectations !

OOS 4.0 VS. OOS 3.2.8 VS. OOS Beta 10

We all know that OOS 4.0 has been released recently, OOS 3.2.8 users got OTA update while some still did not get and others still using Beta 10
I updated from Beta 10 to Stable 4.0
actually I'm not happy with the new update and see from my side that Beta 10 is better than the new stable release 4.0
1. Long (extended) Screenshot removed from 4.0
2. In Call UI font became bigger in 4.0
3. Launcher reverted back to old style which was in Old Betas and H2 Style removed
So tell us what do you think of the new update?

Clear google play services framework and google play services data and cache and then reboot. It's an issue with the device not able to connect to the google cloud connection services.
This should fix the issue.
The N for OP3 is still buggy for my taste. To many variables are a source for bugs and tbh that f2s partition is also trouble, not 100% but still. I will stick to my MM for now since it's flawless in any terms...Xposed, awesome kernels, stability, etc. N will be an option after op will "finally settle" it a bit

Sorry for asking stupid questions...Will there be OTA updates for OOS Beta 10, or in order to get some new OTAs I have to manually flash Stable 7.0? (and also do full wipe, right?)

If your are on Open beta you'll get Open beta updates only, you'll get OTA for open beta 11.
If you are on OOS 4, you'll get OOS 4 updates like 4.0.1.
If you want to switch from OB to OOS, you can sideload it from official recovery or if you have twrp you can just flash it like any other rom.

Thanks for clarifying, one more question: sideloading official 4.0 when I have Beta 10 is equal to full wipe, right?

OxygenOS Open Beta 32 for the OnePlus 3 and 23 for the OnePlus 3T

Hey everyone,
We’re back with the newest Open Beta builds for the OnePlus 3 and 3T
Changelog:
Gallery V2.5
New design for Collections tab
Added reorder function for Collections
Added recently deleted Collection
OnePlus Switch
Added support to migrate application data, allowing you to switch between devices seamlessly
System
Updated Android security patch to 2018-02
General bug fixes and improvements
Please keep in mind that this is beta software. These builds are sometimes not as stable as our official OTAs generally are. By installing this update, you accept the potential risks.
And please remember to tell us about any bugs you may find using the bug report forums, found here. https://forums.oneplus.net/feedback/
Please note:
If you have already flashed an Open Beta (you are currently running the latest Open Beta) you will receive this new build as an OTA.
If you ARE NOT running open beta software and would like to, please refer to the flashing instructions and the full ROM found on the downloads page here: http://downloads.oneplus.net/
Once you migrate to the Beta path, you will continue to receive Open Beta OTAs. You will NO LONGER receive the regular Official Stable OTAs.
Moving back to the Official OTA path from the Beta path will require a full install and clean flash (FULL WIPE of all data and cache)
Make sure to let us know how you feel about the beta builds here in the thread too, we are watching.
Note: If you want to join us in OxygenOS Open Ears Forum and talk with us f2f in San Francisco on April 7, welcome to fill in your application by Mar 14.
No 8.1?
Yes, this release will not bring a 8.1 to our devices... It's very strange and disappointed, but we can't do anything with this.
i think i wait till LinageOS is more stable and flash this instead. OxygenOS has an end on our 3 Devices...
I'm looking to Nitrogen OS, but the "google multitouch lag" is very annoying, so I will wait for time when google fix it, and then switch to Nitrogen.
I think 1+ will not update 3/3t as previously and finally switch open beta program to 5/5t.
i think we only get a few security patches and "general bugfixes" in the future. the timeline for the OP3's is over. that's my opinion.
i switch to LinageOS or Paranoid Android (i hope we hear some more news about Oreo soon)

Android 12 seems delayed for now

Just saw the October security update for A11. Saying it will be in a few weeks for A12 and some are thinking delayed until the P6 is for sale. So stop hitting that update button. lol
The did release it's for AOSP though.
Google releases Android 12 to AOSP, but no Pixel launch today
In a significant departure from previous years, Google today rolled out Android 12 to AOSP but did not launch on Pixel phones...

Google has indeed released the driver binaries for the Pixel 5 hardware, so it's entirely possible.
The final release should be just around the corner, though. Beta 5 is typically the last beta release before final.

For the previews and betas you needed to flash the OTA.zip, boot to fastboot, flash the vbmeta.img (wiping the first time you do it) with disabling verity and verification, then flash the patched boot.img to retain root with the Pixel 5

The build numbers are almost identical, I don't think they changed much if anything - Beta 5 was 210812.002, current factory is 210812.015
I wish Google had a changelist for each build.
