I've tried search for an answer, but I can't seem to find a thread specifically for this device & issue.
My wife got a Kindle Fire HD 7 on launch day. She's been really disappointed with standby battery life. As is today - she loses 2-3% per hour in stand-by. Is that normal with these devices? If she turns wifi off during sleep it appears like it uses almost no battery.
I have a Nexus 7 - with Wifi policy set to Always on - I lose maybe 5-7% per day.
Now here's the kicker - she's worked with Kindle support and they sent her a new unit. Unfortunately she's seeing the same behavior. She's fully stock, no root, doesn't want to modify. I'm cursing amazon for gimping the battery stats in ICS. At least I can see on my Nexus who/what is using power.
I've had her try resetting the device and just leaving it not setup (no apps, just clean) does the same thing. Maybe I set her expectations too high, but I've owned a Galaxy Tab 7 Plus and the Nexus 7 - they use no where near the amount of power in stand-by. Heck my galaxy nexus was a 95% after 4 hours of standby; her fire was at 90% with absolutely no use - and I actually used my phone a bit whereas the kindle was just sitting in the living room.
Of note: the kindle itself does not appear to get 'hot' when in standby.
Did I set her expectations too high for a 7" tablet? Or is there something more going on here? The only thing I haven't tried is having her deauthorize her kindle and connect to my account (to see if it's some weird 'sync' related issue).
Sorry if I ranted a bit - I pride myself on figuring this kind of stuff out by lurking on forums - this one has me stumped!
That is not normal. I had lots of issues trying to figure out the KFHD battery drain issues and have been cautious on what to install. However if you do have location services turned on, it will drain the battery like no tomorrow. Once I turned it to off, I noticed my device will finally achieve deep sleep. Also check any apps that auto update data. The stock email is fine but things like hootsuite will keep it awake if you let it auto check for messages. I also noticed certain widgets such as Pandora may keep it from going to deep sleep even if I never ran the app. I found the KFHD to be very finicky. I went over to Nexus 7, I don't want a device that requires babysitting.
What is the best way to tell if the kindle is in deep sleep ?

Yeah - location services are off. Just did another factory restore and signed in with my Amazon account (nothing configured beyond sign in) to see if it still does the same thing. My nexus uses less power web browsing than the kfhd in stand by

I use cpuspy app, it only works on rooted devices.
Also OP, make sure your wife manually turns off the screen when the device is not in use. I noticed the battery drains rather fast if you let it time out in that 5 min. Also use auto brightness. Otherwise I'm not sure what else to tell you. Once I found my culprits, the battery life was much better.
On a side note, don't use any apps that modify wifi settings. That will break whatever hidden setting that Amazon has programmed and you can't get it back without a rest. Unlike the first edition KF, wifi will stay on, at least for exchange emails.

Yeah she's button OCD - so no problem there. She's used manual brightness set at like 30%.
I specifically did a factory reset last night on the 'old' device - signed in to my account (to remove her account as the 'cause'), charged up to 100%, unplugged and let set overnight (10 hours on the nose) - screen was off the whole time. Lost 33% battery! Gosh I wish I had a full battery stats Now she's looking at the new Nook.

Are you using the Kindle Fire HD?
Lucky you!!
My kindle fire hd 7, drains the battery even when its completely turned off (shut down).
Last night the battery goes from 29% to 9% in 15 hours while the tablet was turned off.
Hello
I recently bought and setup a chromecast to work with my HDTV. I am usually tech savvy but somehow this issue has me stumped big time...
When I cast youtube videos from my Phone (i337 Galaxy S4) using the youtube app, everything seems to be fine. I can control all the actions (pause, forward, rewind etc.) without any issues. The real problem arises when I am done with youtube casting. For example, yesterday I was at 89% battery when I ended youtube cast and went to bed. I woke up to a dead phone... This has happened always to my i337 phone.
When I use my wife's iPhone-4s, everything is fine... Could somebody tell me if I'm doing it wrong? This has been very frustrating to say the least...
I usually end the video by following the below steps:
1. On my phone, I change the youtube video to "play on phone".
2. I then pause the video on the phone and quit the youtube app.
3. This stops the playback on the HDTV. So I switch off the TV using my remote.
4. I confirm that youtube is killed using a "Task Killer" on my android phone.
5. Go to bed with more than 80% battery & screen off.
6. Wake up to a completely dead phone causing missed alarms for work.
I have "Juice Defender" app on my phone, so looking at the logs I did not observe anything out of the ordinary. If I didn't use my chromecast with phone the previous night, I usually wake up to about 73% battery on my phone... So I think something is wrong here...
Help appreciated. Thanks

Not too sure how detailed Juice Defender logs can be, but you might want to try BetterBatteryStats.

This has happened again. I usually use my wife's iPhone-4S to stream content to the Chromecast at home. I had completely stopped connecting my i337 Galaxy-S4 to the chromecast.
Yesterday was different as my wife's phone was not available and I had to connect to the Chromecast using my i337. Same battery drain issue again. I went to sleep with 63% battery & on WiFi and woke up to a dead phone.
Does anyone have any suggestions? My JuiceDefender log says "Data Traffic Detected, Delaying Disable". My guess is some service/app on the phone is just refusing to stop data communication. I am just not able to figure out which one....
Help appreciated. Thanks

it a quick and dirty method.. I turn off the tv before going to bed, so chromecast turns off as it gets the power from TV usb port. then I quickly toggle wifi off , after a minute or so I toggle on wifi. try this and let us know the results
Obviously, the battery has been terrible on this device. I disabled Google Play Services for a day and I want to say my life tripled. However, not having Google Play Service is no way to live; can't access the Play Store, location services don't work, Gmail doesn't work, etc.
I've come across a way to disable only some of the Google Play Services via DisableService app. However, it needs to be rooted. I can't root it via PingPong because my Baseband version ends with 0F1
What are my options here? Wait til I can root it? Wait for 5.1.1 and put up with the subpar battery life? Anything else to significantly improve the battery?
If you have OF1, as of now there is no wait for root. Another exploit may be found but for now, if your on OF1, root is gone, possibly forever.

I would disagree that battery is terrible, but some basic battery saving techniques without root include dim the screen brightness, disable battery hungry apps such as facebook, S Voice, and instagram, use tasker to automate everything, turn off con.nectivity services such as wifi and bluetooth when not in use, and use greenify (even though root is required for this app to be automated). Also avoid using Googles widgets. Dont use vibrate mode either. Everything else requires root.
i dont have root. my battery is acutally great then when i first very bought the phone. i cycled the battery only to charge it at 2-5% left on battery to full did that for almost one month now and my battery has improved alot. i use the phone quite alot as well. my phone can last a whole day without charge. i have facebook instagram tumbler snapchat installed. using stock launcher as well. i just make sure to close all the apps ive used before my phone goes back into my pocket. when i get home i usally have around 33% battery left. oh i also keep a small powered fan next to my phone when its charging cause the phone does get little hot when it charges but keeping that fan on. when it charges it has changed alot my battery is way better.
Have you tried disabling S-health in App Manager?
"Bluetooth Share" draining battery...even after full wipe and flash from 5.1.1 to 6.0
Hey guys - for the last few weeks I've noticed "Bluetooth Share" as the top culprit for my battery drain...haven't had this problem before and can only fix it by turning off Bluetooth...I'm accustomed to leaving Bluetooth on 24/7 because it's a pain in the butt to turn it on and off every time I get into my car, and the battery drain has never been significant.
Anyways, I was eager to update to 6.0, figuring that would cure the problem...but after wiping, flashing, wiping again...Bluetooth Share is still killing my battery! The only Bluetooth item I have paired is my car stereo.
See the attached screenshots.
Please let me know if you have any advice for solving this. Thanks!
I had the same issue turned out to be the app "Tasker." Dunno if you have that app at all but I figured I'd say since I had exactly the same issue and deleting some random profile I had setup for something that didn't have anything to do with bluetooth ended up fixing it.

Hmm I hope I don't have to go through the painful process of uninstalling all my apps until it stops! I don't have Tasker installed right now so maybe it's something else...thanks for the heads up.
exactly same problem here...have to say that first days on android 6 didn't notice this wakelock, but started after second charge.
i am also using tasker to change the audio setting when i connect to my car bluetooth, but also uses android smart lock to disable security code with my pebble.
did you try to disable bluetooth scanning from location settings menu?

Yeah that's the first thing I tried - disabling that Bluetooth scanning setting - but it didn't change anything.
Have you tried disabling Tasker to see if it fixes your problem?
not yet, i am going to do and check in the next hour.
btw it's strange that this problem didn't come out since the first charge, as i activated tasker immediately...
this is my first charge on android M:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63262307&postcount=2610
disabled only the tasker profile that checks for bluetooth interface that i have in my car and seems that the problem is solved....now i have 8 alarms/hour made from bluetooth.
don't know if i should put tasker in the whitelisted apps for Doze, maybe this would help...

I'm curious if we have the same sort of issue - I know I don't have Tasker installed but another app may be doing the same thing...however I did have this issue on 5.1.1 as well, so I don't believe it's Doze causing it.
Seems tasker is not the problem after a while the wakelock comes again, now I am focusing on smart lock, will try to remove all trusted devices...

Having similar issue on Nexus 5 with 6.0. Just removed android wear and disabled smart unlock. In looking around, it seems like many things seem like a fix but come back after the device is charged. Or certain bluetooth devices are connected and then disconnected. On disconnect, the wakelock occurs so rooted users are killing bluetooth and having luck with that. Also found this older, but still active group. https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=87778 many there have found apps that are causing the issue. GassBuddy being number one.

Wow I just tested 10 minutes with Gasbuddy enabled...then froze it with TiBu and tested 10 more minutes...and the Bluetooth Share drain was down from 14% to 0.3%...
What a shame that the new app permissions in 6.0 don't allow you to take away Bluetooth access...I really like GasBuddy...time to email the dev.
Great find! Thanks for the help!
may i ask if you see bluetooth in android battery stats? because i don't see it, but i notice wakelocks only in BBS.
btw for me it's related to pebble time, if i leave the smartwatch disconnected the wakelocks go down. Will try to remove android wear as suggested...

For me it was "Bluetooth Share" in GSAM Battery Monitor. I don't recall if I saw it in the normal battery stats or not.
I was slowly picking my way through apps, uninstalling and watching the bluetooth usage. I lost patience after removing maybe 15 apps, I don't use any of the "usual suspects". I ended up doing a complete wipe and flashing the 6.0 factory image and am now adding apps back in one by one. For reference, I enable all services and do not turn them off... Wifi, bluetooth, location, Wifi scanning etc. I am too lazy to turn them off and on.
Day 1 - Nothing but factory installed apps, google authenticator and bar code scanner. No bluetooth devices paired but bluetooth in on. Battery last forever, not wake lock.
Day 2 - Added strava app and connected to bluetooth HRM. No wakelock, same battery performance
Day 3 - Added android wear, moto connect and paired moto360. No wake lock and bluetooth keep awake is increasing by about 1 minute per hour so battery life is looking good. Have not enabled smart lock yet, will do that tomorrow.
I keep bluetooth on all the time and complete a full 24 hour cycle with full charge just to make sure that is not part of the problem. Based on my experience, the issue is not the OS or android wear. That leaves misbehaving apps, you just have to find which one through trial and error.
thanks for reporting, can you check how many alarms/hour you have from bluetooth?
Not sure what you mean by alarms/hour. It takes forever for bluetooth to show on my usage now. Yesterday bluetooth got to 2% of total usage for the day.
On day 4, Wi-Fi started rising to the top of the battery used list. Came out of nowhere and it seems like it is an actual bug Google is working on. The fix for me was 3 steps:
1. In Settings/Location click triple dot in top right and select Scanning, disable Wi-Fi scanning
2. In Settings/Backup & reset select Network setting reset
3. Reboot phone
This greatly improved battery life for me. The change is dramatic, I barely went under 50% per day over the weekend. I would suggest everyone try it, it took 4 days to show up but after the battery is outperforming my clean install with no apps. I still have all other services turned on.
I have this same issue!! I Have had the 6 for almost a year now and sinse day 1 I have had BT on almost 24/7. I have my MiBand connected the entire time, LG Tones and Tones+, a couple hours a day also connected to my vehicle (when tones aren't in use) and BT has never ever been a battery drain.
Switch to 6.0 BAM Bluetooth all over the place! I do not have any new apps, no android wear, google fit, pebble, gas buddy etc installed. Nothing new aside the same devices and apps that were there before 6.0.
But at the same time, by battery isn't lasting any less than before, at times a bit longer too (20+ hours) So I don't know if the BT battery data is just skewed? BBS, GSam and Phone all have different stats. I'll post screenshots in a few.
Today isn't the best example of screenshots as the first hour unplugged I had WiFi on (and not connected, forgot to turn off) GPS, MapMyRide app running GPS, Bluetooth and Google Play music all on at the same time (screen off though) and then I downloaded a Rom and Gapps but I'm showing the differences in the battery stats I get

It seems as though certain apps are not working well with 6.0 and causing this issue...GasBuddy seems to be the most popular. I haven't had any problems since I disabled it last week.
You might have to manually determine which app is causing it by uninstalling/reinstalling apps until you find the culprit...
If you do, please post it here so others can find the answer without going through that hassle!
The other choice is to wait until the app gets fixed or Google issues a fix.
I've been thoroughly impressed with battery life on the Moto Z as a result of normal use. Less so with idle battery consumption. That is, after installing my full complement of apps (including facebook and twitter), I did a few tests by going too bed on a full charge, and found that 7 or so hours later, it had burned down 15-20% doing nothing overnight!
I installed gsam batter monitor since the stock one is kind of useless. This provided a lot of valuable info, which is basically that Twitter is a huge hog, Facebook surprisingly isn't, and google play services also seems to be spinning its wheels a lot when I'm doing nothing. But most of my juice was going to powering the wifi radio.
Android M has a setting to turn off wifi when the phone is sleeping. I was reluctant to do this at first because I figured my apps would just start wasting my data instead. However, you also have the ability to selectively limit apps' ability to use cellular data when running in the background. In an app's settings you can click "Data Usage", then "Restrict app background data."
I did this for all the apps that gsam identified as being the wifi/battery users. And frankly there are almost no apps that I actually want using data when I'm not using the app itself anyway, except SMS and gmail. (I wish there was a way to just say "actually shut this app down when I close it", so I could activate it for most apps!)
Anyway -after doing this, I activated the setting to turn off the wifi radio when the phone was sleeping.
Result? 2% battery drain overnight, and minimal cellular data use. Amazing.
(Btw - I also uninstalled the twitter app and just put a link from chrome on my desktop. The web mobile app is very good anyway and I'm not much a twitter addict so this is a fine alternative that is a lot less intrustive for me).

I just got the phone a couple days ago. I appreciate the info here. I have also read that if you just turn wifi to 2.4 GHz only that it will keep the battery drain from happening. I don't use twitter or facebook so don't have to worry about those. Google play services has been a problem since marshmallow. If we could root we could use something like Amplify to stop all the wakelocks, but root is getting hard to come by on these new phones.
I noticed on Gsam that my phone will sleep well for a while, then the "held awake" category starts to take off. I have to reboot to get it to doze again. I have agressive doze and doze on the go activated in Greenify. Not sure what gets it started, but it would be nice to be able to kill it off without rebooting.
I bought a USB C to regular USB and have been charging without the Turbo Charger and the battery is doing so much better.
I was getting frustrated with the battery performance.
