So I got my nexus 7 a week ago! I love everything about it, the screen,cpu,nfc,bluetooth....All of it.
I have a crappy htc rezound for a phone that is on att's gsm network(its a world verizon phone but I ditched vzw)
Im going to buy one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unlocked-AT...ltDomain_0&hash=item2a21a58c12#ht_1471wt_1397
And use it with my nexus 7, use google voice for calling(hardly ever do) and texting. It's just practical for me because it fits in my pocket and I can see the screen way better. I also love the battery life on the nexus. Anyone else had this Idea? I know its going to work for me because I dont even use my phone anymore....
I can also use a bt headset with the nexus tablet and have hands free calling. Just cheaper to me to pay for what I use, Use the hotspot when I cant get wifi! Ill let you guys know all the pro's and cons as soon as I get it
I think my Galaxy Nexus is too big sometimes, but if it works for you more power to you.

I thought about doing something liek that.. Just wasn't sure if I wanted to do it or not. I do have a s3 so I do like my phone but I am all about google voice
i have t-mobile and i have a sidekick 4g that I tether to my tablet, and use my phone's 4g for my tablet at no extra cost. I use tablet talk to sync/send/receive text messages from my phone using the tablet. it supports phone calls now too if u have bluetooth headset i believe. anytime i get a phone call my tablet shows a phone screen but i usually just run to my phone and pick it up since i dont have bluetooth so not sure how well that feature works.
literally just keep my phone in my bag/pocket/charging somewhere and i can use my tablet for everything
We have those at work (NOT unlocked, of course), and I use one myself (Perks of working in IT!). About keeping it in your pocket, I should mention that they do get very warm very fast. Ours have 5GB data, and JB lets you mark AP's as mobile hotspots to preserve data. I'd say it definitely helps.

Off topic: Wow, I didn't know there are providers who only offer GSM networks in the USA.
So their customer are stuck with GSM and can't even use UMTS technologies like HSDPA or HSUPA? :-O
I was thinking of doing that with a Verizon tablet. The 7.7 would work, but I ended up getting a Nexus 7 and keeping my GS3.
I've done that already at home when I was on T-Mobile (T-Mo sucks in my area). I would just use a bluetooth headset to my Nexus 7 and utilize Google Voice through GrooveIP and be able to call accordingly. Worked great. Now that I switched to Verizon and I have signal at my house this kind of negated that point for me, but even still, it's a serious :good:
I don't think I could go without a phone, as my n7 is too big to carry around all the time, but when I've got it with me I want to use it for texting - I just haven't set up mySMS yet! Plus my phone's a Huawei G300 which is laggy and slow to text on so using this instead is a dreeeaaammmm!!
i have an elevate. the battery life is not that great on it. it probably won't last a full day. to me it seems like it should last well. it's a very limited function the device performs and most of the unit mass is battery. maybe i just got a defective battery.
edit: also call quality using voip apps like grooveip, etc... is not very good. it might be okay on 4g lte
The Wifi Lag issue is killing me! Still no Lollipop, I miss root, but I still have my s4.
My question is, If I returned my phone what phone would you get? I love the 5.2 inch screen and the 20 meg camera. The M9 will be a 5 inch screen and verizon has not eta. Suggestions Please
No doubt next step up will be the note 4 or N6

Ah. I have that issue at work but not at home. I run DD-WRT at home.
Gotta be a router chipset incompatibility with whatever the Turbo uses.

I notice more issues on 802.11ac 5 ghz networks, I switch to a 2.4ghz network and the problem goes away. It's how the phone handles wifi networks and should be resolved in a patch. At Home I have 2.4 and 5

I advanced Wi-Fi settings, I have "2.4Ghz only".
No issues, except for when it tries to grab passing AT&T hotspots while driving, but yet too far to actually transmit data. Turning off Wi-Fi while driving is the only way to solve that.
Yeah, not a lot of other choices, I was actually thinking about it last night.
Cost is still a thing too, just as I feared waiting for L and patches the value of
the DT has dropped a fair bit.
Deffinantly the lg g3. If you want, you can wait till the g4 comes out which is soon. I was a turbo owner and root was a deal breaker for me. Switched to the g3 and I'm loving the switch!
Nexus 6 supposed to be on VZW tomorrow finally. Wish I'd waited...
I do sure hope 5.1 brings fixes
WiFi on my Turbo is crippling, yet it works fine on LTE
I've tried dozens of different routers/ISP's/locations, and its definitely the phone
M8....ez to s-off and root....i picked up a new one and now i'm s-off, rooted running lollipop
Obviously you haven't thought of the Passport... http://www.technobuffalo.com/2015/0...berry-passport-best-smartphone-readers-choic/ (about halfway down is the results)
Nothing against the Passport... but c'mon, really?
---------- Post added at 03:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:15 PM ----------
The Turbo checks off so many marks, honestly I'm not sure what would be much better. I have my doubts about the S6. I think it will be a great device with horrible battery life and no "ruggedness". The M9 will be the M8. I liked the M8 but it was too tall / slippery for me - though the M9 will be slightly shorter and less slippery... so maybe it'll be great. But it's also too pretty (if that makes sense) and I'll be constantly worried about dinging it against things. G4 won't be out for awhile and will be too big for me. G3 is too big for me and gets so-so battery life. G2 is actually still a really great device IMHO (still have one) and a great balance between all the factors except for the plasticky feel. Moto X is great but has mediocre battery life and the camera is even more mediocre than the Turbo's... plus the Lollipop it has on Verizon is buggy.
I guess there's just no perfect device...
I have a M7, G2, and (current daily driver) Moto Maxx. If the Maxx added OIS and an IR blaster, it would probably be my version of a "perfect" phone...but it's still darn good as is (I use DD-WRT and also haven't experienced the lag issue). But I also can't give up my G2.
Do you have anything that can tide you over until more 16 or 14 nm processor phones come out? Those may make a big difference in battery performance. If I could only have one phone until I get the latter, I'd probably go with the (older) G2. They can be picked up for a great price.
I'd love to hear other people's choices...
Hello,
I'd like to buy the X Performance when it comes out and use it on my current T-Mobile network. Since I'll be buying the phone unlocked, I understand I will need to input certain "setup" info for the phone to work properly. I actually know how to enter in everything and also WHAT to enter too.......... the APN info, Voicemail, etc.
What I DON'T know how to do is enter in the following fields and where to enter them in too:
Short Message Service (SMS)
SMS Email: [email protected]
Email center: 500
Where do I go to enter those on a Sony phone?? Or, will my T-Mobile SIM card just automatically enter these in for me? Please explain.
Thank You!!

Seems like a very premature question. You might have to wait a few months for the phone to be released to get this answer. Can I have your Galaxy S7 when you get the XP?

lol What up Puff?
Well I actually got the answer I believe on the T-Mobile forum site. Someone there said they never had to that stuff and they have an unlocked phone too. I think I may have to do the APN part, but I have all that info now anyway. So it should be ok.
Yeah.......... it was just announced TODAY that the X Performance is being released GLOBALLY (including U.S. I believe) the FIRST week of July. F M L. lol
Xperia X range release dates in Europe
Xperia X – Late May 2016 (week commencing 23 May)
Xperia XA – Late June 2016 (week commencing 20 June)
Xperia X Performance – Early July 2016 (week commencing 4 July)
Haha have? No. But I WILL be selling it on eBay. lol What sucks is by then it will be worth a little less so that's less money I'll have to put towards the X Performance. Really p's me off that they're taking THIS long to release it when it was announced back in FEB. The S7 is great but there a few things that I don't like about it that are an issue for me. If you want to know more, let me know.
I don't get why they'd release it last too? It's the best of the 3 phones, so why release it LAST? Especially with the Z series now being history. Sony..........makers of great phones, employers of the world's biggest ****-tards for marketing and sales. No TV ads, no........but let's put our generic/lightweight ads on the internet only. Umm...... that's NOT how it works. The only ppl who will see those ads are the ones who are ACTIVELY seeking Sony phones. You need to get the name out there. Get some big celebrities like Clooney or Lawrence to do your ads, and make them COOL not idiotic like that new LG G5 one with Jason Statham. lol Until then, they could AT LEAST put THIS sweet ad on American TV. I think it trumps all their "usual" ads on YouTube by miles. Love the music on it too. Actually "sells" the Predictive Hybrid Autofocus rather well too without having to try so hard.

Puff,
1) Screen Brightness: Under heavy sunlight, the screen brightness on the S7 is f'ign awful. Squint (your eyes) City. lol My Z3's screen brightness S*IT on the S7's.
2) Fast But Not Fast lol: Touchwiz is not that great. Yeah the S7 is very fast for downloads, but I compared the speed of jumping around from app to app on the homescreen vs. doing the same thing on my parents' Xperia Z1s (released January 2014), and THEIR phone was loading things up faster. For real. lol That lag is all Touchwiz. Plus although the Settings Menu is better than before, I still find it more confusing to navigate through than Sony's or HTC's are.
3) Audio Issues (and I'm an Audiophile......Lite lol): First off, the speaker. It's F'ING GOD AWFUL!!! Seriously. There's only one speaker, and it's facing down. Drum sounds render on it like the sound of someone shooting a laser gun. lol Then there's the headphone issue. Using the 3.5mm port is fine, but I use an "in-between" portable amp/DAC device which hooks up to my smartphone and headphones via Micro USB. While listening to music this way, at least once every few minutes (sometimes more), I will hear a hiccup or skip. I pay GOOD money for my Hi-Res music, and the S7 is taking the enjoyment away from me everyday I'm STUCK with it until the XP comes out (a nice big F U to Sony Mobile's execs for deciding to release the FLAGSHIP X phone LAST)! Oh, and using that same setup to watch YouTube videos? Forget it. Hiccup? Try "mad stutter" to the point where it's not even worth it. This makes the screen brightness issue not seem so bad. lol
4) Home Button: This might be more a preference thing, but I've come to realize I DO NOT LIKE physical home buttons. I'd found an app that makes the physical home button act like a virtual one, but it only seems to work 60-70% of the time. So since it's not 100%, this for me becomes yet another issue I have with this phone.
That's pretty much everything I guess. Samsung Pay is kinda cool, the camera is fantastic, wireless charging is kinda kewl too, looks pretty premium too (cuz they finally did what Sony's been doing FOR YEARS and stopped making plastic-bodies phones lol), but I know the XP's camera will be great, and wireless charging is no big deal to me at all (the free one I got from Samsung is not even QC 2.0). They say Samsung may make Samsung Pay available to other phones, so if that happens, I'll probably get it again on Sony, but if not, I won't lose any sleep either. But at the stores, ppl do seem interested in watching me use it. lol It BY FAR is the best mobile pay method there is. It works every time., and you can set it up to be activated via fingerprint which saves you a couple seconds of not having to enter in your passcode.
Hope that helps!
I'm surprised to hear you say the screen doesn't get bright enough. All of the phone comparisons I've seen on YouTube indicate that it's the brightest of the major manufacturers.
I need a loud speaker though because I like showing YouTube videos to my wife and listening to music in the shower. It needs to overcome background noise fairly well.
How does it fit in your hand though? Comfortable one hand operation is key for me.

Puff,
It might come as a surprise, but it's the truth. Under heavy sunlight, I can barely see my screen. At 100% brightness, my S7 is maybe only 75-80% as bright as my Z3 was. And judging by this video comparison of the Z5 vs. the X (X & XP have the same screen I believe), the XP should be PLENTY bright. (Watch it all if you like, but in particular, make sure you check out 3:35 - 4:25).
The S7's speaker IS loud....... so you don't have to worry about that. It just doesn't sound very good is all. For showing your wife YouTube videos, the XP would be the clear winner there. STEREO front-facing speakers that are also very clear................vs. a downward facing speaker that isn't. But again, that's just my opinion. I felt the Z3's speakers were plenty loud (like the M8's), so I don't see it being a problem. Plus the XP like the S7 will be waterproof.
The S7 fits pretty well in my hand. I can't complain there. The S7 Edge that I had briefly before it was too big plus there's no way to deactivate the edge screens, so I'd constantly be accidentally starting up apps or hitting virtual buttons on screen while watching videos.
Let me know if you have any more questions, and what you think of that video too.

I don't know if it's that they don't care, it's just that those features (regardless of which brand phone it is) are carrier-specific, not phone-specific. I just confirmed with a T-Mobile supervisor that information, so unfortunately it sounds like if I get the XP I won't get HD Voice or VoLTE. Sux but oh well. I love the phone too much to give that stuff up. If I get it and am unhappy with it, then I'll just get the T-Mobile HTC 10 instead. A very close 2nd IMO. But the XP has a better camera, so since I don't make many calls, the XP still sounds better.

km8j,
Some GOOD news..........despite my discovery that the X series will not have VoLTE, I found out it's really not an issue at all. Having VoLTE used to mean you could browse and connect to the internet WHILE ON a call. Before you couldn't do both. But I just tested out an Xperia Z1s which does NOT have VoLTE on it, and tried to browse the net and use apps like GMail app while on a call...... and apparently now you CAN do both at the same time even w/o having VoLTE!! So really, it's not a big deal at all!
VoLTE helps to connect your calls faster too, but if I have to wait a few more seconds, so be it.

This is not factually accurate. For years, GSM has been able to handle simultaneous voice and data. The issue is, without VoLTE, when you make a call and are on LTE, the data signal falls back to HSPA, which is far slower and less reliable. So yes you can do data at the same time but not as fast. Also, b12 not being supported means not as good signal in areas where that is deployed. VoLTE offers shorter call connect times, yes but also higher quality audio, more reliability and more.

Oh geez, you're RIGHT km8j!! lol I just realized while reading your post that yeah VoLTE DOES let you stay in 4G LTE while on a call. Thanks. lol Yeah not as fast.
b12??
Ok yeah....... better quality calls too. Oh well. lol I found out now that Verizon and Sprint just got that recently, so that's prob why I remembered not being able to do both at the same time. I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile in Feb of 2014. When I had Verizon, they did not yet have that option, only AT&T and T-Mobile did. So that affected my statements made.

No brotha........ they might have 1700 too, but I know FOR SURE they have Band 12/700 MHz cuz I've been following that s*it for a while now. Even on that T-Mo map link I just sent you it says "Officially announced markets where 700 MHz band 12 network has been deployed have a circled 12 placed on them."
So don't worry about that. lol As long as you live in an area on the map on that page that has it now, you'll have it with the XP too, if you were to get it I mean.
No. Just because the hardware supports it, doesn't mean it will work. T-Mobile has to certify it. Sony won't go through that. They don't care

I don't understand. If the network has it, and the phone supports, why wouldn't it work?? This isn't VoLTE, this is something the phone actually has. So according to you, the 2G and 3G networks wouldn't work then b/c Sony didn't have them certified through T-Mobile either...which means you wouldn't even be able to make calls on it.
Not only does this site say that both the phone and T-Mobile match up with regards to Band 12, even GSM Arena's specs sheet for the XP states it has Band 12. So I have a hard time understanding how it won't work.

MGS,
Well AT&T is fine too as they (like T-Mobile) are also a GSM-based network carrier. Both are equally compatible with the XP per that site I linked you earlier.
I would hope that in the NEAR future all phone makers make HD Voice & VoLTE standard. My guess as to why that hasn't happened yet is that it would cost more money and the phone makers know that not all markets actually have these options yet. But they should just include them anyway as that is changing everyday.
Looking for some help on a brand new S7A. I was very excited about upgrading to the S7 Active yesterday but that soon disappeared after realizing that this device does not work with android auto because of how AT&T modified marshmallow. After doing some research I found out this is the case with the regular S7 on AT&T as well (and AT&T still has not released a fix as best I can tell....) I have tried the developer mode trick out there on the internet without positive results. You shouldn't have to do that anyway? I have also done full resets on my pioneer nex4200 as well as my brand new S7A. Android Auto works just fine S6A before and after the device resets.
Anyone have any tricks up there sleeve on this brand new device and AA?
I have an S7 edge on att and don't have any issues with Android auto.

I had that problem as well when I first got the car. Switched usb cables and haven't had a disconnect yet.
Maybe i should have mentioned that in my first reply.
I have an T Mobile S7 edge and it works just fine on my stock Volkswagen head unit. However it was definitely tricky getting it paired the first time.
Before completely coming to the conclusion its an issue with the AT&T S7 Active globally, if there is no press release stating that from AT&T, or from Samsung, or Google then I would not assume that yet. To test if it might be a problem with your pioneer unit I would get someone elses android phone to test and fast before your S7 Active return policy expires with AT&T.
If your pioneer unit works with another phone then its definitely S7 Active. In that case you would have to determine if this is a deal breaker for you to return it for a regular S7 with a tough case.
I'm interested in the Urbane 2 if it can be used as a wifi hotspot but I can't find any references about it anywhere.
I have two sim cards, one that I use as my main phone number and the other one with unlimited data for wireless connectivity when needed. I carry two devices now and it would be more convenient to me if one of them was the watch.
Thanks for any help.
Watches usually had small battery. I don't think it'll last long as hotspot.
I don't need it to last long. Only for a few minutes at a time and 8-10 hours per day.

Anyone knows if it is actually supported or not? Someone who owns the Urbane 2?

Nothing on the watch itself. If you can find an app for wear or that has wear support then I don't see why not. The main bug bear with this watch is the lack of cellular supporting apps, hopefully a change that will come through with AW 2.0.

Ok, thanks. Hopefully AW 2.0 will address the issue.
Hi with the LG Watch Sport out, the LG Urbane 2 is dropping price, now around $170-$190 region for mint/new.
I was wondering if anyone knows, tried succeeded/failed on using the watch as a Wifi or BT hotspot, so say I had the watch, say a tablet, and a USB battery to keep the watch running longer, with the phone acting as hotspot for the tablet to get to the internet via the watch?
Does anybody have any information on the matter?
My cellular contract gives 5GB free and I too cannot
use my LG Urbane 2 as a Hot Spot.

I'm interested in this as well (Urbane 2 LTE here) as with Sprint, I can't talk and data at the same time - like it's friggin' 2008 or something. So in those situations when I'm in a conference call on the road and I want to pull up some message, it'd be nice to pop on the watch's hotspot, phone connects to it while in the call, and voila, data & call. Might burn through my ~35% end-of-day battery reserve, but worth it.
Unfortunately I don't think it's possible for an app to be able to provide this functionality... it might be hidden in the Android Wear OS, though (most of it coming from Android itself), but just needs a trigger. My watch's carrier (Ting) supports hotspot functionality on everything, so it'd be supported by the carrier and everything, if it could just be activated...
I want to lose the smartphone - or at least move it to my wrist. Like many others, I have a Laptop PC, a tablet, a smartphone and bluetooth headsets. O, yes, and a heart pulse monitor chest strap (It is NOT a bra!). An Eco-system of things that, need to be programmed, configured, charged, connected and synched.
I would love to replace that with a combined PC tablet and a capable Smartwatch (and the headsets, of course).
Today, there is no-one to provide me with the components I need. The latest Smartwatches seem to be only lacking a little programming (HotSpot and fitness apps that synch across platforms) and battery capacity. Nearly there!

Once I got an LTE capable tablet, paying the extra but the cellular networks are financially penalizing tablets, for no valid reason other than greed. So that means I got phone SIMs, in fact two phone SIMS, an ATT and a T-Mobile. I currently have both in a dual-SIM phone. I also have a Truphone incoming-free and expensive data so if I do want to spend a brief time without a phone I just enable the watch SIM and get hit with say 15c of cost. That is tolerable.
The smartwatches are suffering from small battery so you cannot really make them replace the phone.
Whoops! Delete!
Great post. . . . .
