[Q] HTC ONE M7 CM11 Bad Battery Drain & Very Hot - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Gday guys,
My GF and I are both using M7 phones and I set up the last available CM11 snapshot on her phone last week.
Unfortunately, her M7 now has really bad battery drainage and gets very hot even during browsing, using Pinterest, ...
There's hardly anything installed on the phone- I only installed Pinterest, latest GAPPs package and Opera so far. I tried running Greenify, disabling Google background services like NOW (etc..) and played around with the governor- no difference. The power stats show that the display uses the most power, followed by google play services (nothing out of the ordinary imho).
After a normal day of using our phones, my phone is at ~65% (also using an AOSP Rom), hers ist at 10%. Seems to me that the CPU runs at full blast most of the time and doesn't go to sleep properly.
Might another Kernel be worth a try or is the CM11 snapshot known to be causing issues with the M7 here?
Thanks in advance.

Your suspicion sounds correct try a different kernel. If not maybe try and flash cm again or a different rom. As far as the temperature though don't let it get too hot you can damage the rear camera. Best of luck to ya

Yeah, especially because we only just got the "pink camera" fixed on that device :silly:
Any recommendations for a CM11 kernel? Kangaroo seems discontinued, not sure if ElementalX works with CM.
Thanks

[Q] Increase battery performance on Optimus x2

What is the best way to increase battery life on LG P999 Optimus X2?
Model: LG-P999 (Wind Mobile Canada)
OS: 2.2.2
Baseband: M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9.972T 1
[JUL 15 2011 10:00:00]
MP:TRULGLE_08.09.02R_MDM
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: FRG83G
Software: LG-P999-AWC-V11h
Rooted: YES
Or would it better to put on a custom ROM instead that looks identical to the current stock?
I am not sure if this battery issue maybe due to the fact that I had O2X installed and then flashed it back to a backup copy I got from XDA-Dev but ones again not sure, it just seems battery now die's even faster then it used to with STOCK firmware without CM7 and O2X
Isnt that a g2x
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1114
Otherwise I am happy with battery performance on Miui 1.11.25
I don't think so since its 2x is also P-999 unless it P-900. I heard Miui lacks some features and has problems dealing with stuff like MMS and others.
Would still love to reduce battery usage
Your phone is a g2x as its real name p999 proves it. Canadian providers falsely renamed it o2x.
O2x is p990. Nobody had the unique solution for battery. Too many factors.
As hardware, kernels and ROM are different, you should ask on g2x threads.
LG optimus X2 (P990) battery charging
Hey guys I bought my LG OX2 a month ago, and I do have a few phone/tablet chargers, one for my blackberry, one for the kindle fire and one for my LG-OX2. All of them have the same connection, so I thought i will keep my Lg charger at my office and use my kindle charger to charged my OX2 at home. I was using CM7 and i had no problems at all. A few days ago I flash it with NOVA HD+ and first couple days charging over night with the kindle charger had no problems but after that in the mornings my phone is completely shut off. So i have to take the battery off and back on to start it. This morning i notice it again but the battery was empty, so i connected again and after 20 min was doing fine but after 40 min the phone shut off again completely and was very very hot specially where the camere area is. Anyone knows if is because I'm not using the original charger or is the new rom NOVA HD+.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
It shouldn't be the charger. All micro USB ports should have +5V on their power terminals (this is the USB voltage from your PC USB port).
EDIT: You can refer to this link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usb#Power
EDIT number 2:
Unless, of course, your charger is defective.
Well yes you're right is not the charger. As i just connected to the lg charger and after 15 minutes i check the phone and was very hot and unable to turn it on. So I had taken the battery out to cool it off for a few minutes. What else could it be? I don't remember or changing or doing any tweaks.
I've seen a lot of complaining about exactly the same thing as you. I would try flashing temasek's latest kang and vadonka's latest kernel, which should be among the most stable ROM/kernel combination out there for O2X.
If you still get SOD (sleep of death) while charging the phone, it could be a defective battery, or a defective phone altogether. In which case I would suggest that you try to flash your phone back to factory settings and ask for a replacement.
I appreciate your input. At this moment is charging ok, no heating, no SOD (SOD hehehe funny). I have download it the latest NOVA HD+ and i think i gonna give it another try. If continues heating up while charging I will take your advice (although flashing temasek's latest kang and vadonka's latest kernel sounds more complex work for a newbie like me. Do you know if there's any tutorial to follow?)
I will post the result after the update.

It's very simple. How do you flash NOVA? Isn't it through CWM? Flashing temasek's kang and vadonka's kernel is exactly through the same method.
EDIT: Good luck
EDIT #2: Lol @ SOD

The first time I flash NOVA was thru rom manager. Last night i flash the latest NOVA (which seems to be a new version almost everyday) http://hei1125.hopto.org/Nova HD (CM9)/
And I did it thru recovery mode, this time I wiped cache and delvik. And seems like everything is working normal. I did charge it over night, no heating, no SOD, is working flawless. Camera, clock, email working fine, browser now works on landscape which before wasn't. Video still not working. (ooopsss as i'm testing the video the phone kinda crashed and i had to remove battery to reboot it).
But so far so good... I hope stays 'stable'.
Glad it's working better for you now
How do you test the video? I can record video and play it back without any problems. I can also play youtube videos. Never had problems.

I open muy camera app and click on record video and the apps shuts down with a message "sorry the camera was closed because of error".
I can play videos on YouTube without problem.
So for a couple times the phone has gone frozen and the only way to reboot its by removing the battery.

I have found the solution to the poor battery life on the wind mobile G2X.
The culprit is the stock battery. Get rid of it. I was getting less than 3-4 hours battery life from mine with everything I could possibly do to reduce the battery load.
I purchased an extended battery off e-bay. It is the identical physical size, but has 1950mAh.
I now get well over 24 hours battery life. Over 10 hours playing games/browsing internet.
A lot of discussions about aftermarket batteries in many forums (here i guess, too).
If there is a print on the battery like 2200mAh, actually it doenst mean anything. You can be lucky to get a higher capacity or maybe get one with less. Dont believe in the sellers claim
battery performance
in the market you will find same aplications like battery maintenance-very good for battery life

[Q] HTC One - Running Android 4.2.2 - is there a current possibility for overclock?

Greetings guys!
I got my HTC One a few days ago and immediately wanted to remove the Sense layer. I rooted the device and flashed CyanogenMod. I am so far super satisfied with the vanilla Android experience.
I am wondering is there a current possibility for clocking the CPU of the device? I looked up Element X but it seems that, as of now it only works with 4.1.2?
Check out the Kernel which is for 4.2.2 by tbalden. The problem with this s that it isn't based on the HTC Kernel source cause this isn't released yet. So it might have some problems

Why would you overclock it ?
The One is already very responsive and powerful enough to run any apps and games, from my point of view overclock will just cause instability and drain the battery.
But if you want to do it, I saw an option called "seeder" or something like that during the installation of the Revolution HD 10.3 rom, it says that it allow performance tweak but I never tried it.
Seeder has nothing to do with overclocking, it just fills and enlarge the entropy, some people say it give them less lag and smoother gaming, a lot of it is in the eye of the beholder I think but it has no bad side effects as far as I know

I'm coming from 6 year streak of Apple devices and the shear freedom of tinkering with the clock speed makes me really excited
I also noticed the Galaxy S4 uses the same chip with a frequency of 1.9... I guess clocking the current 1.7 to its intended(?) 1.9 wouldn't hurt the battery that much... although anything beyond that might be pointless really.
Thank you everyone for your answers! So I guess there's no 100% working solution as of now?

I think 1.7 IS the intended frequency. The S4 is overclocked (and designed to support the overclocking).

help with v3.7 borked rom

so here's my issue its with the battery.. before on v3.5 I would get amazing battery best Rom I've ever gotten battery life from.. I switched off to a stock ics Rom cause of the camera and dropped network issue.. when I noticed the camera was fixed I flashed v3.7 and now I get horrible batt life literally 30% to 30 mins with medium use facebook texting browsing... I'm wondering what's going on?? and its not the battery I have 3 and they all die fast with this Rom.. is it my phone? any suggestions would be appreciated
Try reflashing

Thanks for responding.. tried it on the holics rom too and horrible battery life idk what it is I'm running the virtuous from and seems to be ok but on sence roms it drains fast it also has random drops from 20% to 12% or just dies I usually run the from for 3 days but the battery doesn't improve is this just a vivid thing or is my device damaged and using a lot of battery?
Also my my device gets very hot on those roms not the battery but below it I'm guessing the processor ?

It is possibly the processor because of the fact that you can overclock your processor on a custom rom.

I'm thinking the same as well it was quite frequent on those roms I dont think its a app because before I install my apps the phone is pretty much vanilla so I turned off some sync and dropped my CPU to 720 MHz or so and also lowered my gpu with kernel tuner. Hope this works
Side note if u don't love sense go with the virtuous rom its awesome.. coupled with nova prime its been the most flawless rom for me fyi s off at&t vivid.. really well made rom I haven't run into any problems using it..IMO the borked rom and virtuous rom are the most stable on at&t version of vivid
If anyone had this problem ill let u know how I fixed it.. just flash kosmik kernal and that's it works beautiful my battery now lasts all day with heavy use.. hope this helps someone

[Q] HTC ONE M7 Screen draining battery life on GPE ROM

Hi all,
I've recently flashed SkyDragon's GPE v4.0.1 for the HTC ONE M7. I'm running Elementalx 15.1 GPE kernel. My battery doesn't seem to last as long as the other Sense ROMs I've used, with mainly the screen draining most of the battery. The screen has been on for approximately 3h 20min. Attached is a screenshot of my battery usage. I wonder if there are any tips to extend the battery life, other kernels etc.

Darker screen. No matter what I do, I always get 3-4.5hrs screen time on sense. Use better battery stats or gsam battery monitor to accurately see if the device has a rogue wakelock.

I know you already answered his question but, I must ask what ROM and kernel are you running on your M7. 3-4.5hrs is crazy battery considering I usually get 2.5hrs of SOT. I used to run CM-based ROM and now I am switching to Sense based ROMs because of stories of incredible battery. Need a suggestion as to which one to use?
I know our usage of the phone is different and apps and wakelocks also matter but plz tell me the ROM and kernel.

Nusense with nukernel. I sometimes switch to viperone. Both do pretty well. I get closer to the 4.5 mark if screen is completely dim. If brightness is up it is closer to the 3 hr mark.

Have you tried out ARHD? I am currently running the 93.0 version and my stanby time is really great (12 hrs have passed and at 77%), I don't use my phone a lot especially in school (mostly listen to music) so this is so much better compared to CM based ROMs were after 12hrs I would be at 58%. Thanks for the tip I will try out Nusense I really like santods ROMs for the M7, I kinda just went for the most regarded sense ROM which is ARHD and besides Sense 7 is good but I am fine with Sense 6.

Cm 12.1 battery drain

I have a AT&T HTC One that I S-Off'd and was running as a stock Google Play Editon. Wanted to try CM 12.1 but my battery drain is insane. I'm running the most current nightly as of 11-19-2015 should i go back to the last snapshot so it's more stable and would this help my battery? Thanks in advance
Been using CM12.1 on my own int'l M7 *without inserting a SIM card*, and it still eats battery like a monster. It can only last at most 4 days on Airplane mode which is even higher than my N4 with WiFi and cellular enabled. Battery stats say that "Miscellaneous" takes up the most, so I can't pinpoint the reason either.
Also, it's been like this since I got the phone from my mate 2 months ago, so you might not find a nightly/snapshot that behaves better.
