AT&T Nexus 6 carrier unlock - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to unlock my nexus 6 from AT&T. I tried cellunlocker.net however they don't have a code for me I'm somewhat reluctant to try another site. I tried installing a t-mobile baseband for the nexus 6 (after reading the sim lock was part of the baseband) no luck. Is there anything else I can do aside from contact AT&T for the unlock code.

A couple of questions:
Is the N6 paid off?
Are you still on AT&T?
If yes to the above, has device been in use on AT&T for more than 45 days?

The N6 is not yet paid off, I don't mind paying it off however It was a part of a family plan in which there are other devices not paid off. The ATT unlock code request page cites that the accounts must not have a past due balance. Even just entering the imei into the web form page to begin submitting the request says that it does not recognize the imei to even submit the request... Seems strange to me

AT&T will not issue a SIM unlock code until the device is paid off. You might be able to get one from a 3rd party, but I'm not sure.

i tried cellunlocker.net ....they didnt have a code. Is there anyone out there more reputable?

No, it won't carrier unlock your phone. The only way is with the unlock code.

and everyone code is phone specific? I cant just format whatever part of memory that contains the sim lock function...?

No, you can not. Code is device specific.

DON'T use cellunlocker.net. It took them about 4 days to come up with a code that didn't work. After being forced to upload several videos of me trying the unlock code and proving that my phone wasn't rooted or running a custom ROM, they still refused to issue a refund claiming my phone was modified. It's been 17 days and they still can't come up with a working code. Avoid them like the plague!
I have heard swiftunlocks might be better.

I have gotten unlock codes from sellers on eBay with success on other devices.

AT&T SIM Unlock

Is the only way to unlock the AT&T Nexus 6 by inserting another carrier's SIM and entering the unlock code? Or is there a way to bring up a service menu and enter the SIM unlock without another carrier's SIM?
Edit: Thread bumped with more info. See last post.
Anyone?

They just give you the unlock code. I've already have that from AT&T, but I don't have another carriers SIM card to prompt the unlock menu.

No SIM UNLOCK message on AT&T Nexus 6
I have a Nexus 6 that was on my wife's plan and she haulled ass on me, turning off my phone in the process. it has no sim unlock message but is still blacklisted. Is this the same as SIM LOCK? I've tried to get it to display the sim unlock code, even factory resetting won't produce one. What the !#$% over?

no. blacklisted and sim locked are two unrelated things. if it gets blacklisted, most likely it wont work on any US carrier(or many international carriers). sim locked means its locked to work only on att(until its paid off, then att unlocks it).
Bumping my old thread here. I got a SIM unlock code from AT&T and attempted entering it 3 times, but each time got a "Network unlock request unsuccessful." You only get 5 attempts before the device is permanently locked to AT&T. I did escalate the issue with them, but it's going to take at least a week to get back to me. I am on CM12.1, does this only work on stock?

I was on stock, rooted and the unlock code from AT&T worked fine. I'm no expert, but it's hard for me to understand why it would matter if you were running a custom ROM.
Have you considered taking it into an AT&T store with your unlock code and asking one of their techs for assistance?

I don't have a lot of time to drop by an AT&T store, so that's why I called them up. The issue has been escalated, so hopefully they can fix whatever they need to on their end. If they can't I'll stop in a store after.

Good luck.
They might have gave u a wrong code. I've had that before. See if they can verify the code or try cellunlocker to see if they give u a different code. Make a backup and flash a stock ROM to be safe

So, I used up 4 of my 5 unlock attempts on CM before flashing back to stock. IT DID work on stock. I don't know why this makes a difference, but I hope this helps others as well.

Unlocking the Note 4

Is this truly only done by carrier?
I read the terms that the phone needs 2 months service and 2 months bills paid for the carrier to give the unlock code. How do the websites do it for $20, is it just employees doing this and selling it?
What did I miss in my hours of searching google and forums
This is the first unlock thread I found:

I'll keep looking.
This is the app I used to Sim unlock my note 4's. It worked on all 4 of my note 4's. I had them unlocked within about 10 minutes time. Worked flawlessly, is permanent, easy to use and is the safest way to unlock a note 4. After unlocking, you can uninstall the app. Here is the link....
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...app&pcampaignid=APPU_1_v_DfVP2jN4TZoATt7YDwDA
Edit...I also used this app on my note 4's straight out of the box without having to worry about activation times and what not.
Cheers!
I bought my unlock code on eBay for under $19. I had the code in two days.
Thanks for all the replies. My question still remains though, I know I can go buy the unlock code anywhere, is this representatives from the company using their access to do it or is there a way we can do it without the middleman ( paying $20 for the code )
I know the older phones it is very easy to unlock, just wondering if we can unlock the note4 without the carrier or by buying the code
I have had a ton of messages lately asking about unlocking the note 4. It seems the link above is no longer active. So here you go my friends, here is the updated unlock link http://imei-unlocker.com/

Right on. Although I have a T-Mobile note 4, I do not, and have never had a T-Mobile contract. I do not even live in the U.S. either. lol. I just wanted a T-Mobile version note 4 because of its extensive development of ROMs and I know a lot of developers who develop ROMs for this version note 4. So I couldn't call T-Mobile because I did not buy my phone from them, I bought it from a 3rd party dealer and T-Mobile told me when I did call, that because I was not and had never been a T-Mobile customer, that they would not help me at all. I paid for my phone in full, outright, without contract.
Cheers!

[Q] Galaxy s6 edge sim unlock problem, please help

So i bought this sgs6 edge device from telus canada.
brought it back home, had the unlock code (also bought from telus and several sim free unlocking sites) and the device just keep poping up the same massage: "network unlock code unsuccessful"
tried every guide on youtube and on any forum i found online, nothing helped.
All the methods, through the dailer, everything.
Can someone please guide me how to sucssesfuly unlock my device?
Many thanks!
Sounds like you got a bad code. You should request a refund and buy one from another vendor. Be careful entering the code too many times. After 10 (I believe) it locks and you can never sim unlock it.

Is the phone paid in full?
The only reason I ask is that I bought an AT&T Nexus 6 shortly after they were released. That's the only Nexus not sim unlocked and my condition on purchase was for the seller to unlock it. We met at an AT&T store, I popped in my Verizon sim and the seller gave me the code. I tried it a few times but the code kept coming back unsuccessful. He called AT&T for the correct code and lady told him she couldn't give it to him because it wasn't paid off (although they had previously given it to him). After some conversation, he eventually gave them his CC # to pay it off. They then provided the exact same code. I hesitantly tried it again and it worked.
I also recently learned that the T-Mobile S6 Edge doesn't take an unlock code at all. It must be unlocked by T-Mobile or it can't be unlocked at all.
Perhaps the carrier is somehow keeping it locked front their end?

So you simply say i have to call them and fully pay it off, so they would relese some sort of lock they have on the device and then i would be able to open it with the exact same code?
If thats true thats might work. I'll try it and update for any changes. Many thanks!
Hey man, my phone is fully paid in. I talked to telus and they said the sim unlock is aprooved in thier computers so what is the problem?

SIM unlock

I have a brand new G6 in the box I want to give to my friend but T-Mobile says I need to put it on their network for a few months before they will unlock it. Pretty BS about it since I bought it outright and never once had a plan on it. I want to give it as new and don't want to open it. Saw some sketchy sites online and other posts here seem to be for different types of unlocks. He has ATT and just wants to use it there. Am I screwed?
Mine came with an app pre-installed that would permanently sim unlock it.

Yeah they call come preloaded but apparently it won't work and you won't get the code unless its on the network and T-Mobile allows it from their end.

Are you on TMO? If so, swap your sim card into it. Call them (611) and tell them the imei you want to unlock then run the app.
I just did that a few days ago. Also the handset must be paid off completely first.

I am on TMO and I would just do that but they told me I had to wait 40 days. Is this not accurate? I'm afraid of opening the box only for it to not work and I can't sell it as brand new in box anymore. Or is that all bs and it will just work immediately? I bought the phone outright in April.

They specifically told me they will unlock a phone immediately upon payment of its balance.
I dunno. I think policy is 40 days. But my customer service location is really good and rated #1 in the country. Otherwise I don't know. You should be able to get it unlocked, especially since you're a customer. Id even try yo use TForce. They're pretty awesome too

I got a used LG G6 from ebay and Tmo rep said that the balance is not paid off so i can't unlock it. Should i use 3rd party to unlock it? I am seeing some places charge $100+ to unlock. It's not like the phone is stolen or anything. Should I just return the phone?

I would return it. It is rather unscrupulous of the buyer to sell you a phone that has not been paid off.
And eventually, if it is not paid off it will be black listed and locked out of TMO network based on IMEI

The 40 days is policy that the phone needs to be actually activated and working for the 40 day counter to start. They do not have to be 40 consecutive days, but 40 days of being alive, working and connected. The Op said that the phone was paid off, so that shouldn't be an issue for the op. Just the 40 day counter.
No need for 60 days continuous use on T-Mobile network. Insert valid T-Mobile sim card to register the handset at least once on their network. You can then take the sim card out (use with any T-Mobile MVNO or don't use it at all - your choice). After 60 days have passed, insert valid T-Mobile sim card again and use the unlock app to permanently unlock your handset. I've done that with my handset and it got permanently unlocked.
Hi there,
I've managed to unlock a T-Mobile G6 a few days ago, using a third party service. Specifically, here: https://www.unlockscope.com/unlock-lg-g6-032413
It was pricier than I was expecting, but anyway, it worked and now it's on AT&T.

Do you know if the same SIM needs to be used after the 60 days (T-Mobile quotes 40 days), or can a different SIM be used? I ask because I purchased a T-Mobile locked phone from someone who had it activated after purchase but apparently not for long enough as I can't get it unlocked in the unlock app even though it's now been long enough. I didn't encourage the seller to put his SIM back in the phone at time of purchase and I don't have easy contact with him anymore. I do however know someone else with a T-Mobile plan but I don't want to try using a different SIM if that might screw with the day count. Might you have any insight?
I used a different T-Mobile sim from the one I initially inserted to register on their network.
It could officially be 40 days even though I waited 60 days instead. Was in no rush to unlock.

Also you have to meet certain terms and condition before you can unlock the handset. I.e. you can only unlock 2 devices per calendar year. The handset should be paid in full etc. There are some other requirements I don't recall exactly please look it up.

Thanks for the info! One last question since I have to meet up with someone to get do it. Is it something that should work right after putting the SIM in or does it have to be in the phone awhile? All other conditions have been met as far as I'm aware so if what you're saying still works, it should do the trick.

Incorrect Unlock Code from AT&T

Hi, I like to know if anyone else has the same problem and what options there are if any.
I bought a new AT&T Note 9 on Ebay. Seller told me the phone had been paid off so I went ahead and requested an unlock code from AT&T.
AT&T approved my request and provided the unlock code. Problem is that I kept getting message that the unlock code is incorrect. I have tried 3 times already and still got the same incorrect unlock code message.
Upon further research, I found that one may have up to 5 attempts to enter a code to unlock the phone. If entering incorrect code more than 5 times, the phone will be permanently locked to the network, in my case to AT&T.
I have been given the run around from both AT&T and Samsung. One says the other should be responsible for fixing the problem (!!!!).
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
Go to cellfunlocker and buy code..they will give you all codes you need

First question. It's an important one that you need to answer accurately. Did the original owner buy it from ATT or Samsung ?
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
Seller told me that the phone was purchased from AT&T and paid off, which seems accurate because AT&T already approved my unlock request even though the unlock code does not work.
Now with the blame game AT&T and Samsung are playing, I am not sure what else to do. Last resource will be to pay and get another unlock code from 3rd party.

I ran into the same issue. Apparently it's a common issue and one that ATT is not moving quickly to fix. I just bought an unlock code from cellunlocker. Now I just have to wait. Irritated since ATT is is supposed to do this for free and I already waited once for their useless unlock code. Now I have to wait for another one.
I submitted a request last week for a lock code from AT&T, then later that night said screw it, and purchased one from Cellunlockers.net. 2 days later, AT&T sent me the code (same one from Cellunlockers), and it was in the correct 16 digit format. So it looks fixed now, but you still have to wait 2 days. $25 gets you the code in a few hours. So I guess it all depends on how patient you are.

Must not be fixed for everyone. I requested a code from ATT last week and received the 8 digit code. I tried it again last night, and they sent me the same 8 digit code. Not sure why some are getting the correct 16 digit codes then. And its a wide spread problem if you search the forums. Even ATT's own support forums, and people there are saying the only solution is a 3rd party.

Both. I'm using it on T-Mobile, but need to leave the ATT firmware on it to unlock the SIM first. Then I'll flash either the U1 firmware or the TMo firmware. Haven't decided which yet.
The first Note 9 I bought was a Verizon model off eBay for $690. Two days later the seller "made a listing error," and meant to list it as a brand new ATT version for $900. He forced me to cancel the listing and issued a refund. Which has since been denied by HIS bank, so I don't have the device or my $690.
In the meantime, I found this ATT variant, which is mint condition, like new for $560. They listed it parts only, because it MIGHT be locked to a carrier. Before I purchased I verified it was clean, clear, and paid off and eligible to unlock. Now just dealing with getting the correct unlock code. It cost me $22.50, so I'm still in this for less than $600. So it's all good.

Sounds good. Hopefully the phone won't turn out blacklisted a few months down the line. I think you might be happier with the T-Mobile firmware due to functionality like RCS messaging etc. I believe wifi calling works on the U1 firmware but that's it. For Sprint anyways.

I don't think it will get blacklisted. If it does there's always PayPal buyer protection.
I don't use RCS, since I use Google Voice for my primary number, so I'm stuck with Hangouts anyway. WiFi calling worked on the N950U1, so I assume it will work on the N960U1. Seems like the signal was maybe a little better with the TMB firmware, but I cant remember for sure.
It worked!! Less than 12 hours later and I had a 16 digit code. I'm now running my T-Mobile SIM without issues!
Hi guys, quick question... Im about to try cellunlocker. My phone is Note 9 960F dual sim. So it comes with two IMEIs... which one do I give to the website? SIM 1 or SIM 2?
ive tried switching SIM cards between SIM 1 and SIM 2 and wherever I put the different network simcard, thats the one that is grayed out and stuck on 2G only. So either I have two unlock both SIM slots or maybe just one slot/ IMEI?
Thanks

It's a mixed bag. Some people got the full 16 digits. In my case on two separate ATT Note 9s, I only received 8 digits from ATT, so I had to get the correct code from cellunlocker.net, which was 16 digits.

i think you can unlock one slot to use it on another network. if you want to use two SIM cards from different networks so you have to unlock both.
Thanks! Will try unlocking SIM2. Thats all I need anyways

If you can figure that out you will solve a 7 month old mystery. From what I've seen, ATT blames Samsung for giving them the wrong codes, and Samsung says ATT is providing the wrong codes. Either way, 3rd party vendors are able to get the 16 digits codes without issue.
Before the Note 9, Samsung phones used 8 digits codes. So it seems ATT did not update their system to provide the full 16 digit number. The number they give you is the first 8 digits, as though the full number was truncated by ATT's system. It just doesn't seem to be a priority on ATT's part to fix it.
