Hi Guys,
I have a stock XT1052 on 5.1 (Asia Retail)
I want to try CM12. Can someone please help me out with the following?
1) What is the preferred root method for my device?
2) What recovery etc do I need to use?
3) Could you guys recommend a good version of CM12 to use?
4) If I want to, can I go back to stock (for features like shake to launch camera, active display etc?) How is that done?
Thanks,
Soumen

We dont have a Stable version in CM12. Only Nightlies are available.
You can use apps to launch camera on Shake, AcDisplay app could replace Active Display.
But Touchless Controls? There's nothing as perfect as the stock one.
I havent rooted yet, But I know, after rooting TWRP Manager app can be used to flash recovery.

1) Unlock bootloader, install TWRP and flash SuperSU.
2) TWRP
3) Always use the last version of CM12.1, if you really want CM
4) Yes, searching for the firmware and flashing it, via recovery or RSD lite. CM12 has shake to launch camera and active display anyway.

I have done most of the initial steps required to install CM11 but still I want to conform if I am going in the right path...
Model : Xperia SP C5302
Built number : 12.1.A.1.207 (Stock)
Kernel version : 3.4.0 (July 8 2014)
I have done the following things:
- Rooted using Towelroot (Verified root using a few root checking apps)
- Installed SuperSU (Chainfire) and BusyBox
- Installed CWM 4.4.1
And have not done the following:
- Yet to Unlock Bootloader
- Did not flash any Kernel
So I have a few Questions
Question 1:
Unlocking the Bootloader will lead to permanent loss of DRM keys... So will I be able to access Bravia Engine by any means after installing CM11???
Question 2:
Is it necessary to flash a kernel before installing CM11???
Question 3:
Is it safe to install CM11 by booting in Recovery mode or Flashboot mode (or whatever they call that, in which we do not need the help of PC) or using flashtool in PC is much safer and better???
Question 4:
Is there anything else for Me to do other than what I have already done (all those I have mentioned)???
Question 5:
There are a lot of Bootloop complaints about the recently released CM11 M10 Snapshot... So is it safe to install it or is it better to go with Nighties??? Is Nighties Stable (around)???
Question 6:
Is there any method to bring back the use of the Illumination bar in the mobile as a visualizer in Music n Photos app after Installing CM11???
Question 7:
In case I mess up, is what is the method to return to stock firmware (and what should I do now, i.e. before Unlocking Bootloader)???
If not all, please help Me clear at least some of My doubts
And if possible, It will be great if You give a complete tutorial (video or post) form a stock, unrooted, locked mobile to a mobile running a custom ROM...
Thank You all a Lot :victory:

First I will suggest you to leave your Bootloader locked and just install Paranoid or PAC ROMs.
1. Yes, you will lose your DRM Keys. No you wont be able to.
2. It's good to flash latest .207 kernel before/after you install the ROM (if your bl is locked).
3. Just install it from CWM/TWRP
4. Root→install recovery→wipe data/cache etc.→install ROM→install GAPS→flash kernel→reboot→you Gucci
5. Your phone can always explode if you're dumb enough or you just don't like to read. (as I said PAC or Paranoid are better options than CM11)
6. Not really sure.
7. If you have your bl locked then just put your phone in flashmode and flash stock .ftf with flashtool. If not relock your bootloader then do the same.
So, if you ask me go for PAC ROM and locked bootloader. I think it's the best ROM so far for our device. I'm with Paranoid and it's quite Gucci as well, everything works like a charm, the ROM is fast and stable. I'm only suggesting you to install Greenify and DS Battery Saver Xposed Modules cause the battery isn't as good as the stock one.
As for tutorial, just read the guide in the thread. It's pretty simple and straight forward. You have to be really dumb to mess up five simple steps.
Good luck!
For Q6, it is possible to use the illumination lights via U-Disco, here.
You can unlock your bootloader and use custom kernels, but I personally recommend staying away from that and using locked bootloader roms, there are many good ones. The risk (hardbrick :crying: ) is not worth it-if you mess it up.

Yes you can ! The LBL tag means locked bootloader (opposed to UB or UBL for unlocked). You can flash any ROM that has it but just check the instructions in op for any ROM specific recommendation.

Is there any basic disadvantage of flashing ROMs on a locked bootloader(like some features not working?) or is the similar to unlocked bootloader roms?
Hello,
i have nearly no clue about Android Roms / rooting.
But my Phone (P880) is quite slow at the moment so i search for a custom rom which helps me to improve the general performance of my phone.
At the moment my Phone is not even rooted or has its bootloader unlocked.
So due to my wish to have a custom rom on my phone im surfing the forums.
There are lots and lots of custom roms and i really dont know which to choose.
So the main requirements for a rom are :
It should be quite stable.
It should work faster than the LG Rom.
It should not have major bugs or features which i cant use anymore (like NFC does not work or GPS does not work).
Im not playing games on my phone im just using it to Whatsapp / SMS / Calls.
I hope you can help me to find a rom which provides the features mentioned above and is easy to install.
I would also be happy about a easy to understand tutorial on how to install everything.
Thanks for your help,
Nils
First, you need to unlock bootloader, root your phone, so you can instal recovery, use this toolkit to do all that... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230934 - i recommned twrp.
When you finish, use super su to flash/update your TWRP Here download link latest TWRP for our phone http://dl.twrp.me/p880/twrp-2.8.6.0-p880.img
Than, turn off your phone, press power + volume down to enter recovery, backup your system data, and everything, just in case, i will reccomend you to install LiquidSmooth 4.0 featuring new Mourta-Hybrid lollipop rom, becouse it's only rom with updated kernel, all other roms have outdated kernel. Liquid download link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/5m682nst53sfnan/LS-LP-v4.0-2015-03-27-liquid_p880.zip

Hi, I wanna buy a Xperia SP, and I also wanna upgrade it to the latest CM 12.1. I buy this phone just for multimedia, call and text, so no social media, messenger or etc since it was my Nexus 5's jobs So, can you help me step by step how to upgrade it to CM 12.1 (also I'll do rooting, backup DRM key then unlock bootloader). SP isn't my new Xperia phone, I have XZ but it was a few years ago, and I almost forget how to do things in Xperia. So, I need help to what to do since I bought this phone till upgrade it to CM 12.1.
Is it download new firmware (I prefer download it manually rather than OTA then flash it via Flashtool), then root it > backup DRM key > unlock bootloader > flash TWRP and/or doing F2FS support > install TWRP > flash ROM & GApps > wipe data, cache etc. > reboot > done ?
I have a thread that should assist you on flashing a custom ROM from pure stock, but it will require flashtool as you will need to flash a custom kernel. If you'd like, it is located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-sp/general/guide-flashing-custom-roms-ultimate-xsp-t2888579
am I need to update it first to the latest firmware? or just do what in your thread as soon as my phone in my hand?
As long as you are on the 4.3 version of the stock firmware, then you are good to go
alright my phone will come in 1-2 days so I can give it a try thanks for your help
No problem! If you have any problems or need any help, just reply to the thread, alright?
okay by the way, what is the last firmware version for C5302 and/or C5303?
The latest firmware version is 12.1.A.1.207
Dear XDA-developers,
Today I spend numerous hours in trying to root my xperia z3 compact.
I currently have MM 6.0.1 D5803 installed on it with 23.5.A.0.575 the netherlands T-Mobile version. I have tried the following: Kingroot, iroot, kingoroot etc but it is all not working. I also used adroid sdk and changed the fastboot driver. I am able to fast boot etc.
Could anybody help me out with rooting this device? Love to hear from you guys.
Kay
It is described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343/page149
Basically you must downgrade to kitkat, run the rooting script and install recovery, and then install a prerooted marshmallow rom.
Similar issue in Switzerland

Hi, I actually have the same problem rooting my new Z3C in Switzerland. I know that I have to downgrade but when I flash the rom it just boot in the welcome page and the it crashes and go in bootloop.
I've tried with both:
"D5803_23.0.1.A.5.77 Android 4.4.4_Customized CE1 1288-7915.ftf"
"D5803_23.4.A.0.546 Android 5.1.1_Customized CH 1288-9528.ftf" (I know that is not the KK but I just wanted to try if it works, but no success at all even flashing a lollipop from CH)
Any ideas guys?

Thank you for you answer. I've actually just tried with this but I get stuck in the welcome screen and then it simply continues to reboots.
I've installed this: D5803_23.0.A.2.93_Generic GLOBAL.ftf
After having a look to the firmware that I had on the phone (original and working was the 6.0.1 GLOBAL version).
All my previous phone was rooted and now I feel like in prison without a rooted xperia! ahahah

Then you are doing something wrong with flashtool, I used that build yesterday, then used geifroot and dual recovery, before flashing Slim 2.
you need to tick all of the wipe boxes, and none of the exlcude, or it won't work. You can't keep your data flashing to a different firmware.

It seems to work now.
I think it would be better to emphasize this in the guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
I'm downloading the rom, what would you suggest me if I do really care about the battery life? Maybe the lollipop instead of Marsh-mellow because of the presence of Stamina mode in lollipop?
I guess I will just try to find the best...

There are only two good builds for the Z3c at the moment.
The Slim 5 which is lollipop
or the Slim 2 MM. I was sceptical about MM battery life and held back 5.1 for a long time, but now the latest roms is out, the doze function works as well or better than stamina mode. I am getting 4 days between charges now, something I could never do before

Thank you for your answer. Really useful! I've finally managed to room and install that I wanted!
If you have such permission, I would suggest to edit the guide in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
by adding the following:
7. Just select the name of the fw you downloaded and click on "Flash". Note: select both wipes in case you are coming from different android version.
43. Open Flashtool and select the non-pre-rooted fw (this is 23.1.A.0.690), but DESELECT system: in "EXCLUDE" make sure you check the checkbox next to "SYSTEM", flash it.
I will put this comment on the relative guide too!
I don't want to abuse of you kindness but I am currently searching for some CPU+GPU clock and voltage changer. Is there any efficient application that you can suggest me?
I have been using my Moto x4 since 2017 running stock ROM. Now, Moto has stopped android updates to x4. So, I decided to try android 10 based pixel experience ROM from XDA. But, I have some doubts.
Previously, I have used a Xiaomi device and I had experience with installing custom rom. But, for moto I am confused. Please correct me if I doing something wrong.
Steps to follow:
1.Unlock bootloader.
2. Install twrp.
3. Install copyparitions zip file. ( Id this file suitable to my device? Because, android one variant has 3gb, 32 gb storage, am using 4gb, 64gb variant. Does it causes any trouble?
4. Install firmware. ( My device running on android 9, with latest security patch of sep 2019..ppw.29.69.40.4. so, do I need to install firmware.
5. Backup EFS etc.
6. Install pixel experience zip.(pixel plus)
7. Reboot to bootloader.
8. Install twrp
9. Install gapps. ( I wished to install gapps from open gapps, which contains nearly stock Google apps. Can I use aroma variant).
10. Reboot to system.
After installation: (without rooting)
a. Can I use google pay, and banking apps. Is it safe.?
b. Which camera is got installed? Gcam 7.0+ or Moto camera.
How was the bugs, battery performance?
Thanks in advance.

So, is it not required to flash firmware before flashing pixel experience rom? Kindly reply.
Is there anyone who have qcn or efs backup , if you have then can you provide that for Moto X4 or say (XT1900-2)
