It is, essentially, the same device with a larger display and battery. It does have the active display and touchless controls.
I'd probably have gotten it...but its twice the price I paid.
Sent from my Moto X cellular telephone...
If it was on my carrier I would have gotten it. Save discs
Spec's as the x and larger battery is a win
Sent from my Moto X
I too would have gotten the Droid Maxx had it been around the same price point as the x ... But $349 vs. $649 ... I'll take the x LOL

So now that Android 5.0 Lollipop is announced, we get to the (impatient) waiting game.
How long do you think before 5.0 finds its way to the Moto X Pure Edition?
They said in the coming weeks for the Nexus 5/7/10 and GPE phones. My speculation is 5-10 days for Nexus, 11-17 days for GPE, 18-30 days before X PE sees the update, and another 1-2 months before it finds its way to the carrier versions.
Here is where they will announce it:

Is it just me, or is there no way to pick the Pure Edition on there? I know it doesn't matter currently, but thought it was odd.
With the original moto x pure edition it was about a month after nexus devices that the moto got its update so I would say a couple of weeks after the nexus so late Nov...
They are pushing the vanilla expierence for the pure, and one of the boasts said it would be almost days after nexus, but that cant be reliable. For someone who had rocked L on their nexus 5 it cant come soon enough.
Anyone know how long after the pure moto x (2013) got updated for the at&t moto x to get it?
Sent from my XT1097 using XDA Free mobile app
With the old moto x it was about 2 months after the pure got updated
Quick question: if I bought my phone full price does that mean it is the pure edition?

It will come when it will come. All the speculation won't make it get here any faster. Moto's track record with the 2013 models, including the Droid line, was stellar. Very quick update to KitKat. My Droid Maxx got it before even the Moto X crowd.

That's what I am saying, motorola will probably even beat some nexus devices
My personal unknowing opinion, by end of next month.
Something tells me it'll be really fast.
Like, same day/next day fast (I'm talking about Pure Edition of course)
The OS on the Moto X is as bare as it can possibly be. There's nothing to port, really.
All Moto-specific features (Moto Assist, Moto Voice etc.) are separate PlayStore apps.
And Nexus 6 pretty much is Moto X, only blown up. So there's no tangible reason for one handset to get Lollipop waaay before the other.

Only if you specifically chose the Pure Edition as an option in MotoMaker.

I mean they look the same, but they have completely different specs so saying that the N6 is a blown up Moto X is not an accurate statement.

And how are they fundamentally different? 801 vs. 805? Tomayto / tomahto.
It's not like N6 has 64bit architecture or something.

I am believing it'll be really fast too. Trusted devices doesn't need to be incorporated anymore. Google has their own ambient mode, so Moto could follow that. In Lollipop, the "ok Google" anytime is like Moto Voice, so perhaps less code to deal with. Lollipop looks like it does all the heavy lifting for Moto features. Motorola may have less work to do, except the camera app. They better focus on the camera app. They have no excuse since the APIs are there

Again, incremental update. Not too different.
Moto has the final Lollipop build and has probably already been setting it up for updating. The only thing that could hold it up would be carriers.

What about if you've bought the phone sim-free off Amazon? I'm assuming that's a Pure too?
Given the hardware and capabilities of this phone, does anyone know how difficult it may or may not be to create a ROM that ports the features of the Moto X? I own the original phone, as well as briefly owned the 2014 version. I think the Moto app that lets you configure the features of the phone are much nicer than what Google does stock. As the new X and G already have 5.0, what about a Nexus 6 port? It has an AMOLED display, and the newer X doesn't have all the custom co-processors anymore that required control of the always listening and active display. Is anyone else interested in a port of the X Rom?
It would be easier to port the Moto Maxx's ROM as it is technically equivalent (display size, chipsets, etc.) But 5.0 isn't out for the Maxx yet. I'm also waiting for this to happen, a N6 with Moto Suite would seriously kick ass.
agreed..
I have been trying to get a hold of a Moto X 2014 5.0 /system/ .zip files but no one wants to sent me one to play with.

@knitler - check your PM
Try looking at the Lollipop OTA ZIPs in the Moto X 2014 forums. That would be a start...
I have been struggling with the decision between the Moto X (2014) and the Nexus 6. I have a Moto X (2013) Developer Edition now.
What it boils down to is battery life vs features.
Is there anyway to load a Moto X ROM onto a Nexus 6 and for it to work?
I struggled with the same process myself. I ended up with the Nexus 6 for the following reasons.
1) Nexus 6 has "OK Google" with screen off
2) Moto Assist (drive portion) features can be replaced with "Agent" app.
3) Dynamic Notifications is a good replacement for moto display but some quirks with lollipop still need to be ironed out.
4) Screen size
5) Battery, but I obviously have no idea how the moto x 2014 battery would handle my habits but I felt better about going with a larger battery over the 2300mah from the moto x. Better to start with a larger tank and adjust from there. I average 4.5 to 5 hours and I'm off the charger from 8am and the phone lasts me until 10-11pm most nights.
6) ease of modifying a nexus over most other phones. It took me a while to start modding my moto x 2014 because of the voiding of the warranty with unlocked bootloader and then the variable hoops to get the phone rooted. My experience on the nexus devices from before was so much simpler.
More than likely I would have gone with the Moto X 2014 IF the nexus 6 did not have OK google with screen off. Its a feature I didn't realize how much I used until I went from my moto x to my nexus 5 and now it's a must have feature for me.
Sacrifices I've made.
1) phone handling. The original moto x was just so easy to handle, with absolutely zero strain to reach anything. the 2014 I played with posed a few strains here and there so I figured if I have to strain a little here and there might as well do it with a phablet.
2) there are a few moto voice commands i miss like "what's up" and "where's my phone" but commandr for google now has added a lot more features w/o having to use tasker and autovoice.
3) bugs and quirks of being on lollipop. You may experience the same with Moto X 2014 since it's on lollipop as well.
i did not know about the off screen OK Google feature, thanks!!! loving my N6 more and more but i wouldnt mind Moto assist on it.

Which feature of assist do you want? If its the text to speech, Agent "do not disturb" is very similar.
They cost about the same - if it wasn't that old, I'd go for the Moto X. But I guess it won't be getting updates much longer, and with CM you'll lose e.g. Active Display. What are your thoughts?
The Moto X, IMHO, is the far better unit. Even over the G 2014. We're comparing budget devices to a former Flagship.
And as far as losing features on CM.... That's true. But the X is preferred by most I'd say, running stock with Xposed /gravity box for customization.
Again, all my opinion. ?
not same cost Moto G in ebay 169-165$ \ Moto X 245-265$
of course Moto X better

Heck, I'm getting a Moto X next Wednesday and I just sold my Nexus 5. I guess technically it's a downgrade, but I wanted the extra Moto features. If you're not a major power user, the Moto X is still a good phone. If there's a Moto X 2015, I'll probably get that at the end of the year. I would definitely get the X over the G any day.
