[Q] Flash i537 Modem to i9295 - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an i9295 that I'm using on T-Mobile's network here in the US. I've been doing a little research to figure out if it's possible to get LTE on the i9295. From what I've been able to gather I need the 1700 band in order to get an LTE connection from T-Mobile, but apparently the i9295 lacks that capability while the i537 has that capability. From what I understand the i9295 and i537 are identical with regards to the hardware, so it seems like it should be possible with the right software.
My question is: is it possibly to flash an i537 modem to the i9295? If so are there any caveats, will I end up bricking my phone? Has anybody attempted this? Is this not possible due to the different bootloaders?

Do not flash a modem on a i9295 for a i537, you might brick your phone

This is why I'm asking, I need to know for sure whether or not I'm going to brick it before I try.

We learned that jflte modem didn't work on jactivelte here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55753476
Didn't hear anything about bricking after spegelius tested that.
But that is only modem.bin handling GSM traffic.
Then you have the relationship between bootloader to the LTE modem/network certificate non-hlos.bin that need to match up. I9295 (jactivelte) can accept flashing of different versions of bootloader and non-hlos.bin. Unmatched versions have bad impact on audio and WiFi.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57332718
It is more difficult to do that on i537 as I understand because of the locked bootloader.
Perhaps there is some common factors in the kernel or RIL.

I understand that it would be difficult to flash a modem, but I'm guessing I should be able to extract modems from the i537 and flash them to the i9295. I understand that I need to make sure the non-hlos matches my bootloader, but I shouldn't brick my phone when I try if I understand everything you've written. I don't care if it's a soft brick, I just want to make sure I don't hard brick.

[Q] Advice welcome on trying to flash unlocked AT&T device

Probably against my better judgement, I've bought a 'new' S4 active off of Ebay here in the UK...it turns out its an unlocked AT&T device. While the phone works, it has AT&T branding all over it, and has an AT&T firmware updater rather than the stock android one, which is stuck on 4.3
Is it possible to flash this device with standard UK 4.4.2 firmware? I've attached a screenshot from the device showing what it's running. CSC information is:
Original CSC: XSG
Firmware CSC: ATT
Active CSC: XSG/ATT
CSC Country UAE
CSC Country ISO : AE
Using Phone info it shows:
Baseband I537UCUBML2...but in standard phone settings Baseband I9295XXDMK1??
PDA: I9295UCUBML2 / I537UCUBML2
I think stock UK firmware is BTU CSC, so I've downloaded that from SAMMOBILE.COM, but when I try to flash that with Odin, it just give me a fail with "Complete(Write) operation failed". I've tried different ports, cables and making sure no Kies processes are running (as I've read these can affect it), but still fail.....So my question is, is what I'm trying to do even possible....it is possible to turn an unlocked AT&T device into a stock UK device? If it is maybe I just have to keep trying different PC's and ports and cables till I strike lucky!
Many thanks for any help
Vince

I have bad news for you, currently it is impossible. About the only thing you can do is flash i537 firmware and then use UK modems, since it seems like that is what was already done. Sorry, you bought a phone with a locked bootloader and there's nothing that can be done until somebody figures out how to unlock the bootloader on Samsung phones.
Thanks for the reply....I had a bad feeling this was going to be the response, at least now I don't have to waste any more evenings trying to do this, that's the risk of ebay I guess!! Not sure if I'm brave or experienced enough to know how to get hold of the latest 4.4.2 AT&T firmware, flash that, and THEN install UK modems without risking a bricked device!

I try to make people's lives easy, check out the i537 Firmware Guide. At some point in the future I'm going to put together a post on how to flash modems so you can wait for that if you want, but it is really easy to flash modems with Odin and there is pretty much no risk to bricking, the only risk you'll run in to is that your radios won't work until you properly flash the modem. Good luck.
That looks like a great source of information thanks....so it should be possible to install the latest 4.4.2 AT&T firmware, then re-install the UK modems ....I wasn't what the risk of flashing modems was, but it seems like you just use Odin again with the correct file. So as long as I can get hold of those I should be OK.
Many thanks again for the assist.

Canadian Note 5 Odin to Marshmallow Question!?

Hello all!
I am the unfortunate one to own a Wind Mobile variant of the Note 5. There is no ETA on the Marshmallow update unfortunately. Meanwhile Bell, Telus, and several other carriers have released the update already.
What I am wondering is if I can flash the Bell .tar via Odin to my Wind Note 5. All Canadian variants are N920W8, so I dont think there is much of a difference (besides bloatware). The download from sammobile.com includes the BL, AP and CP. Would it be missing possibly the kernel or bootloader?
I've been out of the flashing game for way too long, and don't care about tripping my Knox. Just sick of trailing behind on 5.1, and if this doesnt work I'm almost considering the 6P.
Thank you!

I flashed the bell version using SamFirm. Currently unable to root it though as I'm quite a noob :silly: I have the N920W8 variant.

Possible to convert N920A to N920C?

Hello XDA!
I'd like to buy a Note 5 to use on AT&T but I'd like to have all carrier logos and bloatware removed without rooting. I found that the N920C has no carrier branding or any applications, however it has some LTE issues on AT&T.
I know this post is under the Note 5 but here's what I experienced with an S7.
I wanted to acheive the same goal on my S7 by flashing the unlocked firmware, and it worked. I installed G930U firmware on a G930A by flashing CP & BL from the A firmware and AP & CSC from U, given that they both are on the same version. (I downloaded the G930U firmware off Sammobile which said G930U AT&T, so I'm assuming it contains the AT&T modem and bootloader, since it mentions AP and CSC to be G930U). I've been using it since, and I get LTE just fine, even LTE+, though I lost a few carrier features like VoLTE and WiFi calling.
I read that the reason why this worked is because the hardware is identical across all S7s, and that the software is what enables certain radio bands. Is this true? I've always had the notion that different carriers have different hardware. I also read that the bootloader is locked. Would that be a concern while flashing official firmware? It's worked for me so I'm a bit confused.
Anyways, my main question is: will this work on a Note 5? Is it possible to buy an N920A and flash N920C AP & CSC with CP & BL from the ATT firmware? Will the modem inside the N920A designed for the AT&T frequencies be enabled while under the N920C + ATT modem & bootloader hybrid?
On the subject of hardware, if all Note 5s are the same internally, could I do this to any other carrier phone like a N920P instead of an N920A?
Apologies for the wall of text. I wanted to provide as much information as I can.
Update
I ended up buying an N920i as other users here have reported compatibility with AT&T.

XT1064 - how to reflash modem?

Hello.
Please help me solve the problem. I have XT1064, and 3G 1700 AWS do not work in my country. I want to try forcing the firmware from ХТ1063 by force, and everything even works out for me, except that in the settings - about phone, the modem version is always written old. On any firmware. Even with downgrade. How to flash a modem, and where can I get its files?
I tried a whole versions of modems (NON-HLOS.bin and fsg.mbn) from different firmwares - but the firmware of the communication module is always the same version of MSM8626BP_1032.3116.99.00R RETUSA_AWS_CUST. I need a RETGB modem from XT1063.
Sure, i know about flashing modem from another model - may hardbrick my phone, in emergency case i have a programmer box. But only for restore, not for flashing.

Flashing firmware from a different region

Hi all, I'm new to modding in general so there's many things I don't quite understand, hoping somebody can help.
I bought an S10 from a site which was supposed to just send me a refurbed (italian) S10, instead they sent me the US version, (G973U) and I believe it is carrier locked since it's stuck with Android 9 and doesn't find any update.
I have tried searching to no avail what I should flash to simply unbrand it, and allow it to receive OTA updates without tripping Knox.
The build version is the following: PPR1.180610.011.G973USQU2ASGC and the CRC is XAA/XAA/ATT
Thanks in advance.
You shall call them.
Who and what for? I'm past the point of dealing with those sellers, I just want to flash the phone.
CSC (not CRC).
XAA is a multi-region USA ROM, so I don't think it will change over properly for you in Italy. There are threads here for how you reflash a different ROM. The one I used for my S10+ was this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...e-links-and-flashing-discussion-here.3905897/ but I am sure there is one like that for your S10 non-plus... find it, follow the instructions, and you should be all set.
Thanks! I'm a newbie, what does it mean it wouldn't change properly? No OTAs? Tripping KNOX?
I have found this which seems to be the equivalent of the link you posted.
So, I should flash the U1 version right? However I see only a file "SAU - 1 - ....", and my build number doesn't end in that, furthermore I don't know which bootloader version I'm at.

Oh ok. I couldn't understand first.
For that, You'll flash in EDL mode. But the problem is if your device is powered by a snapdragon chip, it'll not working seamlessly.

No problem. I'm aware of the mode I have to enter to flash, as above I'm trying to figure out which stock rom I should flash to avoid tripping knox, and to receive OTAs. What won't work seamlessly?
Well, mods can close the thread, found the way to do it. Leaving it in case somebody ever needs it.
First, found & checked the bootloader version (5th number from the right in the build version) since you can only flash older bootloader versions apparently.
Then downloaded through Frija the rom for the unlocked phone variant (SM-G973U1) and the unbranded CSC (XAA)
Then using odin 3.13.3b flashed the rom

Hello, I'm in more or less same situation. When you flashed, which files did you use? All of them or just the AP_*** file?
Never mind. Flashed it anyway, now I don't see the AT&T startup screen anymore which is promising. Firmware version is now Android 11 (SM-G973U1 and not SM-G973U) on XAA CSC. Will see if I get any firmware updates later.
