Issues with Nova Launcher - T-Mobile LG G4

I have nova launcher as my defaul launcher, but the phone keeps asking if its my default at least 10 times a day after hitting the home button. It's getting pretty annoying, especially since I can't just freeze LGs launcher without Titanium Backup. Is there another work around or something that I am missing?

I have a similar problem, but mine isn't as frequent. My phone seems to forget all the default apps every few days.
You can use Debloater to disable the other launcher apps. That is what others with your problem have done, but they had root and used TB to remove them.

Thanks I'll try debloater, but I wish I could root and just freeze all other launchers.

Ever try Home2 Shortcut? it sets defaults for the home button to force the launcher. I use that and it seems to be working for me.
This also allows me to double tap home to make Google Voice Search automatically start (I used this big time on my Note 2 to get rid of S-Voice defaults).

Launcher is broken, can't uninstall it or get into settings.

I was following a guide on here for installing Apex launcher by moving it into the system files, after I had installed it and selected it as my launcher it kept saying "Apex Launcher has stopped working" in a loop. My device is unusable because of it, any idea of how to fix it guys?

Can you see your home button, arrow, and star? If so hit the star (favorites) click on anything, browser, etc. After it goes to the page in your favorites, at the top you can pull down your settings. Go to applications, installed applications, find the app you just installed and force close. This happened to me after installing Nova launcher and I found this out by accident, or by the grace of God. Lol. Hope it helps!
This is where you start playing the tapping reflex game. Try to navigate where you need to go in between closing the force close pop up. I would try just installing the apk from the non system folder to get it stable. Then uninstall and try again or give up if you are faint of heart doing it. Make sure you have your permissions set up right before you try round two.

Same thing happened to me, thought I had a brick on my hands. Trick I used was to hit the favorites icon between error messages, and launched a browser. Then I had access to the drag down bar, which I used to run "apps" and uninstall NOVA. That reset to the default launcher.
Go Launcher HD was the only launcher that worked for me without that same error. I still have not selected a default launcher until I'm sure it is very stable though. Don't want to get caught in that loop again.
Yeah I finally got it fixed by going through ADB and uninstalling Apex. I had a mini heart attack, this thing isn't nearly as mod friendly as my S3.

Yeah, I had the same when I broke SlideIT keyboard. I thought it was all over, especially since this device is so young in it's development stages. Glad you got it fixed.

I also have titanium installed & I have uninstalled apps that I don't want that came with the OS using the titanium uninstaller
yes I know you can turn off Blinkfeed but why waste the phone space.

Nandroid backup and let us know.

So that's all the replays I'm going to get
Well I did some looking around & found that the name of the APK for Blinkfeed is "launcherUpdateScreen.apk" that made me fear full about removing it.
So I ask again can I remove it???
I'm running HTC Sense UI everything is stock I have just unlocked & rooted the phone
Oh more ? I have can I delete gmail.apk I don't want it & want to know if I remove it will it F up my phone???
Is there a list of what's safe to remove & what's not safe to remove???
any time I tried to disable or remove Blinkfeed from my m7 the launcher would stop working. good thing before I tried disabling it I did a backup. (Dont bother trying to disable) the best that can be done to is it go into your settings and remove blinkfeed from the page itself.
Thank you

thank you & I have already done just that.
so from here on I will give up on removing it
but do you update Blinkfeed or see any point in updating it when you see Blinkfeed come up in the play store?
also got any input on gmail.apk?
If you don't use Gmail then I'm sure you could remove it. Although I would freeze it first to see if it causes any problems. It may mess with hangouts or other Google Apps.

This is exactly what I was going to say. Honestly, there's nothing good about the Sense launcher except for blink feed, so if you're want to "desensitize" your phone, you can do that via Ti. I would freeze HTC Weather, blinkfeed, and service pack. I did that once, and I didn't see any negative effects. Once you're confident with that, you can defrost then delete those apps via Ti. Make a backup if your setup is valuable.
Oh yeah, you'll lose all lock screen shortcuts if you delete blink feed, so keep that in mind.
Thanks for all the replies everyone

I'm a upper level android user & that's only because I'm a hardcore Linux user
but changing things like the launcher & other things beyond that is too advanced for me.
I have fears of bricking my phone, so I keep everything stock & just root/unlock/s-off etc...
but stay stock.
As for the Blinkfeed I will just leave that turned off & alone
but even with it off should I update Blinkfeed?? there is an update for it in the play store.
As for the gmail I will try & freeze it & see what happens.
the Google user I have for my phone, I don't use the gmail.
the user I made is just for my phone, the only thing I use it for to just to access the play store & that is only to get free apps.
I have another gmail user that I use for email but I don't trust checking email over a phone so I don't. (I work in computer & network security so I'm always paranoid about security)

For future reference, root/S-OFF/unlock is a much higher percentage for bricking your phone than installing a launcher APK, which has about a zero percent chance.
So you should feel safe installing Nova or any other launcher that you want if that will help your situation...
well I have confidence in doing that because I have done it soo many time & I understand all of it but there are areas of Android I just have not had the time to learn.
with a third-party launcher does the old one keep running in the background? & can the old be remove all the way?

A third party launcher is just another app. When you first install it, it asks you which launcher you want to use by default, or you can select either launcher every time you press the home key.
If you ever want to you can remove the new launcher via uninstalling the app and it just defaults back to the old one, exactly as you had it.
Just think of it as a normal app, it has about as much chance of bricking your phone as Candy Crush.

VIE-AL10, EMUI 5.0, NOVA Launcher

I am using the VIE-AL10 in the US and was able to remove mostly all Chinese default apps to make it like a Google phone. I have used Nova Launcher for a while and it worked perfect in EMUI 4.1.
Now randomly the "Hauwei Home" launcher will reset as the default. Anyone having this issue?

have you found a fix for this? recently rooted mine. debating on deleting the huawei launcher.
I have not. Was hoping for a Huawei update to come out and address it. Please let me know if deleting the launcher works. I didn't want to root mine but would do it in a second if it fixes this issue.

so before i looked for the huawei home app i made nova a device administrator. I forget where the setting is but its in there somewhere. i have rebooted several times and nova seems to be sticking vs the phone switching back to the huawei home.
search for device administrator you will find it. alternatively you could root and give nova root priveledges

You don't need root for that. I have found a workaround. Deselect it as the current launcher then hit recents. Once you see nova hit the lock. Haven't had a problem since. Notifications still don't work right but with apex launcher they work fine.

FYI: Unfortunately, System UI has stopped (Nova Launcher Transparency and Oreo?)

I want to share this, in case someone else gets into the same bad spot. Perhaps it might help someone.
I unboxed my Nokia 8 this afternoon, and so far I'm impressed with the call quality and general build of the phone. All was going well, until I installed my favorite launcher (Nova Launcher Prime), and then I used a Nova Launcher backup file from another phone, which had been running Nougat. Then, I started getting this error: "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped". The screen would show this, flash off, flash on, show this, and repeat. The only action I could perform was to power off or restart. A few seconds after a restart, the problem recur.
This seems (based on reading random forum threads around the web) to have been a problem between Oreo and the "transparent notification bar" setting in Nova Launcher. I'm testing running Nova right now, without using the backup file from the old phone, and so far, so good. I did a factory reset of my phone, but you if anyone finds themselves in a similar fix, you can also try rebooting into Safe Mode and uninstalling Nova (or whatever app causes the error).
I am using Nova Launcher Prime and have transparency enabled. No errors at all. But I have set up everything from scratch.
GpoGoGo
Nova Launcher Prime works fine here after backing up from my Moto G5 Plus
Nova Launcher works fine here too. I've used Nova for a while and it's been my experience also that restoring a Nova backup from a previous phone can result in problems. Having said that, restoration on the same phone the backup has been made on has always worked flawlessly. If you start from scratch with Nova on a new phone (somewhat of a nuisance) all works well
Nova prime beta was the first thing I installed, great on Nougat and even better on Oreo.
No issues for me.
I imported a backup layout then tweaked it instead of new setup.

I've bad experience with any kind of backups (including Google backup) - always something goes wrong on any device.
I'll suggest you that when you migrating to new device just don't use any backups.
Back to topic.
I've transparent bar on (I think this is default setting) and no issues at all.
It's definitely backup fault.
I have recently started to have this issue, not sure if it is Nova causing it or something else.
I notice 2 things alongside the system crash -
Often when trying to open the camera app it will trigger the crash no matter if I have no apps open in history or 20 open.
When this happens the phone runs very hot and does not respond to anything, even the power button.
Occasionally the app draw will open (swipe up method) but not show any apps and I need to leave it for some time.
Right now I have uninstalled Nova and will use the stock launcher for a few days to test it, even though I really do not like the stock launcher as it has zero options to customise or use icon sets
I'll report back how the phone performs in the next few days but if anyone has any more info from their experiences it would be good.

I had problems with my Nova launcher. Used a backup from my old phone and then Nova made the battery drain very fast. Removed it and it's files then installed it again without the backup. Made a new config from scratch and now the battery is fine.
So far no issues with stock launcher or Microsoft launcher.
If it is still stable I will go for a fresh install of Nova in a couple of days.

Third party launcher being blocked

Well Xiaomi don't allow third party launchers.
I managed to get around this annoying setting with Nova Launcher by going into Nova Launcher settings and setting it there.
Just in case anybody panics
Same thing happened to me, it seems that setting it from Nova did the trick, i was panicking for awhile that i had to use that ****! LOL
I was panicking and i found another way also..
i downloaded 'mimui hidden setting' --> manage applications --> show system apps --> system launcher --> launcher --> and here I was able to select nova
anyone else had any hurdles?
i wasn't able to instal 'Revolut' from the appstore..

Give contact sync all permissions and pop up etc and auto start. Should work fine. Works for me.
I had to follow this guide and manually install the APD for the background service but after that everything worked flawlessly.

How the heck are you guys typing with 3rd party launcher?
Third party launcher seems to force removal of the bottom gesture bar. When this happens, then when typing on the keyboard, the space button for example is directly touching the bottom of the device, and it becomes hard to use the space bar with it so close to the edge because the touch detection gets wonky. Have you guys noticed this? This is with Gboard. Any workarounds? It's just too hard for me to type like that.

Did it already. Confusing part was, there was a bundle package that didn't install, but separate apk did the trick..
I found that if you enable, "OEM unlocking" in the Developer settings, it disables the security settings that has to due with the launcher restrictions, and I was able to choose any launcher.
Problem is, can you use full screen gesture with 3rd party launcher ? Can't seems to make it work with Nova on MIUI 12.5 A11
Never used this device but with my 10+ the native launcher is superior to all 3rd party ones I tried including Nova. Stability is crucial for a launcher as it can boot loop you in a second... been there, done that, twice. No other app on a stock phone can trash a clean load faster is what I discovered
If you see glitches and especially unstable behavior with a 3rd party launcher know that a boot loop may be ust the next reboot away.
And if that isn't bad enough all the launchers I tried including Nova were slower, used more resources, battery and/or weren't as functional as the stock one. Many weren't even stable
I don't have time for that kind of $...
Before the MiUi 12.1.1 you could use a tool from an russian developer forum and temporary bypass everything by adb loading some sort of apk.
Yesterday I updated to MiUi 12.1.1 and if you have 3rd party launcher, closing app via app view/task manager doesn't work, also Xiaomi doesn't allow you to use gesture navigation with 3rd party launcher.
If you set the 3rd party launcher, and activate gestures with a bit of adb magic, it will work for a couple of seconds. I believe a python script that loops the command, would help here but I noticed that it prevents you from locking the device and it sometimes crashes the OS.
Anyway, I'm kinda tired of MiUi right now and I'll be switching to an Android GSI rom or the unofficial Pixel Experience rom.
