You should now download a kernel that has an inbuilt recovery such as TWRP. Flash the kernel through fastbook. The stock Sony kernel doesn't allow for custom recoveries as far as I know. From there once you have the custom recovery, put the ".zip" file for CM12.1 on the devices storage or SD card and install using TWRP.
Let me know if you need further help!

easy stuff
1st: Download the (rom) zip file to your sdcard, reboot in recovery, do a factory reset and flash the zip

Hmm, maybe it was an error in my method when I tried to flash TWRP over the stock kernel.

I'm pretty sure that installing a custom kernel doesn't require a custom ROM, I've flashed a custom kernel on a stock ROM before. Unless this was specific to the tablet I was using at the time then he should have no problem doing so as well.

Do you have recovery? If not its really easy to install one without a custom kernel
just follow the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606

Hi guys, I've been trying to send back my Droid 3 to Verizon, but every time I do the 1_click_SBF.exe the Android guy doesn't respond, and I get a "Master Clear error"-Operation Failed.
I think I may of bricked the phone. I get 0 connection to the network, and I also had failed aborted updates to the newest version multiple times and I don't know what to do.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but I am sincerely at a loss.
any help is appreciated

Which SBF are you using? If you upgraded to 906 the 890 SBF won't work.
I believe 890 it would not let me update to the new software. I originally flashed from 906, and I'm now stuck on a broken 890 sbf.
Is there another way I can install a working sbf and delete all possible signs of root and get it working again?
System Version: 5.6.890.XT862.Verizon.en.US
Model Number: Droid 3
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: Unknown
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-g5fa4155 [email protected] #1
Build Number: 5.5.1_84_D3G-55
ERI version: Unknown
PRL version: Unknown
I can't dial 611 I can't do anything I get a "emergency calls" No Network is available. Only emergency calls are allowed.
The activation doesn't occur, it just goes straight to a google account creation
So what are my options to get the phone back into condition to send back to verizon?
Can it flash the radio at least?

I don't exactly know what you mean by that
@sd_shadow
No I simply meant by when you begin to activate a new phone you have to touch the android guy to begin activation, it just doesn't respond, and goes to Google log in settings.
The 1_click_sbf.exe file worked fine the first time I did it from the root. The phone and network was working. Once I tried to update the phone to 906 the update failed, and I've been stuck in limbo
