I got a new car after upgrading to 5.1 and the new Moto Assist app. It's been about a month of driving daily, connected to the new Bluetooth device and yet Assist still does not recognize the device as being associated with driving mode. The driving mode is activated after I drive around for a minute, but it would be nice if it worked as it used to. Anyone have a similar experience? My previous car had Bluetooth and Assist recognized it quickly (under 4.4).
I have the same issue. It's sad that you cannot add a Bluetooth device for assist manually. Tried some stuff, but nothing worked. I would also be glad if someone knows how to get this working.

I've cleared data for the Moto app and will try again, though I'm not sure it will help.
Well that did the trick. The radio is now listed in the Moto app, and driving mode engages immediately when the phone connects. I'd say give it a try if you're having the same problem.

I have a Verizon Moto X and generally love the phone. There is one aggravation that I haven't been able to figure out, and looking within this forum or across the Internet hasn't helped. Basically, Assist won't read incoming texts or the CallerID for incoming calls. Doesn't matter if I'm connected to bluetooth or not.
Likewise, when I put my phone in the "official" Griffin car dock, I get the "driving mode" symbol in the notification bar and the phone shows me a dreamscape. I don't get any "driving mode" screen, or see any useful function.
Am I missing something here? Is there some actual functionality associated with driving mode? And is there some trick to getting Assist to actually read out what it's supposed to read out?
For me (AT&T Moto X), Moto Assist works great. I only have sleeping mode and driving mode enabled. Driving mode appears to be based on the location sensors. Assuming you have the location settings enabled (no tin foil hat here), the device seems to go to driving mode whenever it detects you traveling fast enough to be in a car. Walking / Jogging do not trigger it.
Whenever I am driving, the Moto X is connected to my car's Bluetooth system, and when I receive a text message, it says: "<contact> sent you a message. Say "listen" to listen to the message." You say "listen" and it says "<contact> said <message>."

Not on mine. It resolutely refuses to read anything out loud using Assist. Doesn't seem to matter if it's connected to bluetooth or not.
Mine doesn't work, I just disabled it.
Internet connection?
I would't be suprised if this relied highly on assisted GPS which requires internet connection from time to time. Do you have mobile data enabled?
Also Google Geofences API usually does not work without internet connection, and the functionality there is very similar.
FYI: Mine doesn't seem to work either, but I don't have data plan, so can't test it

Do you have location services enabled? Are you on the latest firmware from Verizon? You should be on "139.15.1.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US" (Source)

Verizon? Same as jldeitch?
Location services are up and working. Latest firmware confirmed. But no talking texts. Sigh.
I've had the Moto X for six days now, and I was disappointed that the first time I turned on Moto Assist while driving it didn't read an incoming text to me.
However, I think that it comes down to the sensors and whether or not it believes that you're driving. In that first time that I tried it, I was driving relatively slowly through a residential area with lots of stop signs. I don't think that the Moto X actually determined that I was driving. The second time I tried it, I was driving on a highway; when I had my passenger send a text to me, it worked like a charm.
Last night I was in stop and go traffic during rush hour on that same highway and I received a number of texts that were not read to me because the Moto X didn't detect that I was driving.
It would be nice to have an "I'm driving; read all texts to me regardless of speed" mode, but it doesn't look like you get that on the phone (though perhaps you might with a car dock).
Does it only work with contacts?
Is anybody else having issues getting moto assist to work? Specifically while driving?
I have the driving feature set to talk to me and resume music play when my device detects that I am driving, however it doesn't look like this is working for me. The meetings feature is working fine, but even though my X displays the driving notification in the status bar, it doesn't read texts or announce who is calling or texting me.
I've looked for solutions to this issue on the mighty internet and found that there are others with similar problems and all they had to do was reset Moto Assist by clearing data and cache for the following apps:
Motorola Assist
Motorola Assist Framework
Motorola Assist Engine
Motorola Assist Talk To Me
Here is the issue for me. My apps list only shows the first two apps in that list. It appears that Motorola Assist Engine and Talk To Me are missing from my device (which would explain why I'm having issues). The problem is I don't know how to get these apps.
I have tried uninstalling updates for Motorola Assist and updating it again. I also tried a factory reset. Neither of these solutions brought these missing apps to my device and clearing data and cache for the apps that I do have doesn't solve the issue. I am on android 4.4. I updated my phone as soon as I got it so I don't know if this was broken by the update or not.
Does anybody else have this issue? Anybody here have an idea how I can fix this?
It looks like this guy over at the moto forums is having the same issue with no luck: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/e1788e31bf

Just took a drive and its working here... and I don't have those other two binaries.
I don't have the other two either and moto assist works fine.

Hello,
My smartwatch LG G Watch R is connected throug bluetooth, but 9 out of 10 times teh ok google says its offline, with a slashed cloud.
I have allready factory reset both phone and watch.
Reinstall Google Now
Check settings 100 times
Is my watch broken? Or can this be another problem?
regards,
Frans
I have had this a couple of times. It is the phone not connecting to the internet. I only have had it when on wifi. Switched wifi on phone off and on and that fixed it.
Does it happen on wifi and mobile data?
Hi. Yes it means that it's connected to the phone but the phone is not connected to the Internet.

Have the same problem; it's connected via bluetooth AND voice recognition works perfectly on the phone - any ideas anyone ?
Ash
seems to be when i receive a card, directly after it wont connect
Hi all, I've registered in order to ask exactly the same question.
Every time I use some voice recognition (i.e. give an order, answer to someone...) I got these "offline" errors same as OP.
"Offline" or "Can't reach Google at the moment" even if my phone is 100% with internet conectivity.
Anyone got this fixed? Any troubleshooting around it?
Thanks in advance !
I'd expect it would happen if you have a battery saver like Juice Defender on the phone that turns off data when the screen is off, or only switches it on every 15 mins etc. I'd turn off any battery saving stuff on the phone that could be doing anything like that and see if there's any improvement
At least I, I don't have any kind of battery saving application...
Add me to this list. Total garbage. I've had this watch for a few days and I'm very underwhelmed because of this problem.
I've experienced the same problem. Watch works when wifi is active but goes" offline" when only connected to data. I believe I've come across a solution. It's working for me.
Switch on background data for Google search.(on your phone) That worked for me.
Go to settings, data usage, scroll down to Google search (should be there on the list) and make sure background data isn't restricted.
Hope this helps. Good luck guys/girls.

Nope no joy for me with this...
No ticks in any app on that list..!
These constant disconnects are really getting to me now !
Strangely I'm on a note 3 too, albeit running the leaked lollipop rom, I take it your still on stock KitKat firmware ?
I was going to flash back to 4.4.3 stock to see if it cures it but if you're still on this I won't bother.

Looks like a very common problem across all android wear watches.
Even though I have a G Watch R, I've had a nosey around and according to the Moto 360 forums they are having the same issues so I would guess either lollipop on the watch has an issue or the latest android wear app.. rather than the watch itself if the 360 is doing the same.
And I don't think it did this when the Mrs first bought my watch and let me try it out prior to putting it away for xmas.
I had a good few hours playing with it to make sure it was working ok and what I wanted for my xmas present
This was before the updates to the app and watch firmware.
Had it been like it is now I think I would have sent it back...!
Hopefully it will get fixed after the New Year and everyone gets back to their jobs at Google..
Most of the functions still go to the "cloud" to work, so if you have any battery saving "features" enabled that restrict Google Play Service, then you'll likely to run into problems.
I've seen this problem also and it was caused by my flakey wifi connection or trying to make the watch do something while out of signal (like in an elevator). But that not the watch's fault...
You can try downloading the voice recognition offline, that could help, but it still neds internet to work properly. Uninstall all batery saving garbage (I have yet to see a working one) and try again.
Sorry to hear that it didn't work for you. I had that problem on 4.3 and upgraded to 4.4 thinking it would solve the issue. Changing bootloaders, roms, android versions didn't fix it until I reenabled background data.
I was rooted running jedi 4.3 rom when I got my g watch r. Switched to PAC ROM 4.4.4 and the prob was still there. It's all good now though. Good luck and hope you find a fix. I totally understand your frustration.

HI Guys,
I have exactly the same issue.
Very boring....
Stock rom from acer 4.4.2 no data restriction...
Any news or way to solve this ?
Thanks
Hello all!
I must say, this watch is a very nice toy to play with and very handy in meetings! I have used the watch for a few days now, but I (only) have 2 issues to be solved which I cannot seem to find the answer yet:
1. The watch is connected to my phone OK (all notifications come through all the time). However, when I say "OK google" and then for instance "show me my steps" or "show me the weather", it will go to a screen saying me the connection is offline (white logo on blue background on the top of the screen). When I dismiss that message, I see that my connection is still OK! Weird .... this happens to me practically 80-90% of the times .... on a very rare occasion it succeeds to show me the info I want. By the way, my internet connection is OK at that time.
2. I have my phone also connected with BT to my Volvo V40 (2013). However, with the watch also on BT, the carkit of my Volvo is now almost useless as the voice is completely messed up (from the caller to me, and from me to the caller), sounds very intermittend or something. It seems like the BT connection is not happy with having 2 devices to be connected at the same time. My phone is an iNew V3 ... could it be something with BT profiles or versions?
I have already tried to reset the watch, re-install wear on my phone, deleted the dalvik cache (phone), un-installed apps, but no luck. Anybody have a clue on the above?
Maybe your Wifi/3G connexion is in sleeping mode and is too long to unsleep ? the watch can not connect so quickly ?
You sound like having BT reception issues on the phone. This behaviour might be triggered by the bluetooth interface itself (on the phone - bad design) or by bad drivers (also on the phone) or by interferences from the wifi module. Is your wifi on all the time?
Regular wifi is on 2.4GHz, the same frequency as BT. Wifi, however, uses more Rx/Tx power compared to BT so, under certain bad antenna designs, WiFi can just mess-up BT.
On my phone (Z1C) is the other way around: having BT ON will cause bad performance on 2.4GHz WiFi .... so I just stopped using the 2.4 band for WiFi.
Give it a try, Worst case scenario: use another phone.
Hi guys,
Thanks for the reply. About the first idea ... well if I have my phone on the charger and already switched on, it still happens. So there I assume the 3G / wifi connection is already on and this issue will not be due to the delay of switching the data connection on. Am I right?
Second option: my wifi is switched on all the time, you are right. I will try to experiment a little bit with it, let's see if that will make a difference. And, changing the phone ... hmmm well that would be a very high impact of course. My iNew V3 actually works very well ...
I am still a bit struggling with accepting it is my phone causing this issue ... only with the voice regocognition I have this issue ... with all other commands and apps the connection is OK! Only with the "OK google" option it says "offline" ... and immediately (I do not see the colored circle). To me it looks more like a but in the software or something, but after 3 resets of the device I also cannot believe that ...
Any more options? Thanks!

I am using a iNew V3 on KitKat with the 1.13 official version (however from needrom). Would that be the issue?

try to pair your watch with your friend phone and to check this is not a problem coming from your phone. sometimes certain kernel do have issue with some of the bluetooth device.
Hello everyone. Sorry for my English, because I am using a translator. I decided to write this post, because it happened to me the same trouble and I found her cause. In anticipation of its Nexus 6, I decided to temporarily buy fairly cheap option LG G60 (X135). When watch came to me, I noticed the same problem. I then tried to connect them to the Moto G (1st generation), and there is the same. but by chance, in the evening, in my hands was LG G90 and I connected watch to this phone. Everything works without any problem. it turns out that despite the declared characteristics (Bluetooth 4.0) in all devices, it works quite differently everywhere. I hope with Nexus no problems.
Hi all, after opening this thread I tried several things and have some new insights:
- new update (5.0.1) solved my issue with going "offline" after a voice command. Now it works perfectly! But only if I am not connected to my carkit.
- if my watch is connected and try to use the carkit the sound is still bad. So I would like to have my watch disconnected if my carkit connects:
-- this could be done by only allowing 1 device to pair with my phone and prioritize carkit to be first and watch to be second.
-- this could be done by actively unpairing the watch if I receive a call (and connect when call is over).
The first option would be the most reliable and most simple. I tried to find an app that restricts only having 1 pairing and having a prioritize option ... but I cannot find such app. People any options?
Thanks!
Hi guys, in response of the above, the app TRIGGER might do the job, but it seems closing the Android Wear app or disconnect via Bluetooth does NOT disconnect your watch! Has anybody succeeded in using TRIGGER to disconnect / connect the watch with a automatic job?
I've searched through the threads but not found this exact issue. I used to be able to activate the moto voice commands over my bluetooth headset. My phone could be in another room and I could activate it. Lately (not sure exactly when it stopped) it seems to have stopped working. I may get it to work 1 in 10 tries but that's it. I've poked through all the menus/settings that I can find that might be related to it and I have had no luck. I've deleted bluetooth profiles, I've even bought a new headset and still no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions to try to troubleshoot this?
Unlocked/rooted MX14 running xposed
Does it still happen in safe mode?
