updating XT1092 4.4.4 to 5.1 and root ? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have some questions about updating my new XT1092 :
I'm french and have a 4.4.4 android stock version deutsch (21.21.45.victara_retde.retdeall.en.DE retde)
I haven't made modifications (bootloader not unlocked) or update to keep maximum root possiblilites.
i want 2 things : update to lollipop 5.1 and root my phone.
But after reading some posts and brick problems, i don't know where to start :
does i need to update to 5.1 first and root after ?
or root first on 4.4.4 version and update to 5 and 5.1 ?
OTA update or manual update ?
Thanks!

Update first, then after on 5.1 root. Don't worry about a brick. The bricks are caused by downgrading then taking OTA. Since you did not downgrade, you won't brick.

Thanks for response,
Is it possible to root on 5.1 ?
How can i do ?

Yes you can root. Just flash twrp recovery, open the recovery and then when you exit the recovery it will ask you if you want to root the phone. Super simple.

Yes you will, as long as you are using the stock recovery. Even if you are rooted you would still get the update. But to flash the update you need to full unroot.

[Q] Inquiries about rooting Moto X Lollipop 5.0

Hi
Is it good to root 5.0? or shall I wait to 5.1?
what will happen if I rooted on Lollipop 5.0 the upgraded to 5.1 using OTA update? will it harm my device?
Is there a trusted/tested root for Moto X 2014 Lollipop 5.0?
If you are rooted you will need to do a clean install of 5.0 before accepting an OTA to 5.1 or the OTA will fail. The way I use to root is to flash a custom recovery and then flash SuperSU.

what do you mean by "good"? in what aspects? the answer will depend on how you want to use after root features.
AFAIK, you have to stock recovery installed before getting any OTA, they wont even downloaded if you have a custom recovery, so you have to use fastboot to install stock "recovery.img" before getting OTA.
I used CF-Auto root method, its safe and easy, but beware, you have to unlock bootloader first.

[Q] How to update from 4.4 to 5.1 properly ?

Hi everyone,
I know there is a lot of answers on this forum but it's difficult to find exactly what I ask.
My (european) Moto X 2014 (XT1092) is still in Android 4.4 rooted, with unlocked bootloader and no recovery.
I would like to update to Lollipop 5.1, be rooted and with Xposed installed. I don't want to brick my phone, and I would like some advices on how to do that, what are the steps ?
Thanks
If you haven't already update to 5.0 you could flash 4.4.4/5.0 and then OTA to 5.1

Ok thank's ! By backup you mean manually or use an app to entirely backup the system and data ?
Do I have to root the phone on 5.0 and then update to 5.1 ?
You can fastboot boot twrp and make a backup, just to be safe,it's not mandatory. Flash 5.0 and then check for update.

Ok ! But if I want to be rooted on 5.1 Do I have to root it on 5.0 and then update to 5.1 (will it keep the root ?) or root on 5.1 (if it's possible) ?

[Q] Should I root on android 4.4.4 or on 5.1?

Hey guys,
I have a Moto X 2013 (XT1052) and today I recived the notification for the OTA update to android 5.1 , I'm currently running stock android 4.4.4 with an unlocked bootloader. So my question is, should I root now on android 4.4.4 or install the update and root on android 5.1?

you will likely lose root taking the OTA update.
Since you have an unlocked bootloader, Take the 5.1 OTA, then after taking the OTA you may root by following -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/instructions-unlocking-rooting-dev-ed-t2649738 Please be sure to use the latest TWRP fastboot IMG file (Alternate Link) and Installable ZIP of SuperSU

I flashed TWRP-2.8.6.0-Ghost.img to my Moto X, but now I can't boot into recovery and everytime I restart my phone it needs to optimize apps and that takes ages. Do you have any idea's for how to solve this?
Edit: Never mind, I figured it out and successfully rooted my phone! Thankyou for your help.

[Q] XT1097 5.1 Rooted

I have a 1097 with unlocked bootloader running lolipop 5.1 Movistar Chile had before android 5.0.1 rooted , realize the unroot and update to 5.1 via OTA , but there is no image or form Rooot directly to my xt1097 , today tried the application for kingsroot see if I could get root my phone to my surprise was rooted , my question is if anyone else tried this method or to know more about him or if you have problems . thanks
Are you saying that root didn't work with kingsroot?
Rooting is easy, just flash twrp recovery. When you exit twrp it will ask if you want to root your phone, and do it for you.

yes its works , my question is why not seen a published method for running xt1097 5.1
I am seeking a less invasive way , so you can easily unroot and recive ota's

First of all with twrp it is easy. And second there are reports that kingroot steals imei from users. They say that they don't abuse it... but after using kingroot somebody somewhere has your imei, and in my opinion kingroot should never be used because of that.
