Can I download an official Rom and flash it using stock recovery instead of using Odin?
When you say Official ROM you mean Official Firmware?

Yes.
As far as know, you can flash Official Firmware only from Odin or Samsung Kies....

Try it and see. You can always flash back if its not to your expectations. Very simple operation. I am using it with rocket rom and finding it very good.
Get it from the modem thread
I have this Samsung galaxy Note gt-n7000. I rooted it with a new kernel AbyssNote 4.2 that even installed the CWM 5.8. It has the stock ROM 2.3.5 and i wanna update it with an official ROM from Samsung. Will there be any problem or the Official 4.0.4 Rom will just remove the root and the custom kernel?
I will install the official ROM with Odin
With Odin, you will lose root and your custom kernel.

When you flash with odin the root will be lost. After flashing your new 4.0.4 stock rom you can flash a rooted kernel via odin.
just check this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784 and follow the instructions carefully!

There's no need to do that, just flash it directly.
I haven't been able to flash any custom rom on my xt1072.
i am using android version 6.0 everytime i try to flash a rom, i get the same error.
that it's not compatible.
are there any special versions or maybe not the correct software version
i have tried cyanogen and resurrection remix but both end up in the same error
regards,
Benvo

you can flash stock roms using flashtools without any problem .the version of the rom varies and depend on version of android you desire .
if you want kitkat (android version : 4.4.4) then you should flash 10.5.1.A.0.283
if you want lolipop (android version : 5.1.1),you should flash 10.7.A.0.228
