I have been reading through various sites that Moto app was updated to match the one what comes with the new devices, but I haven't been able to update to that version, although the Play Store says that the last update was on July 29.
Anyone already been able to update through the Play Store?.
Thanks
I just got it. It has a prettier background, and it looks like you can tweak each of the features a little more than you could before. Nothing major though, in my opinion.
Just did today.
I'm sure it'll get pushed soon. Have you tried to Uninstall Updates, clear cache and update that way?
I will have to wait then, so strange it still didn't came for my phone (Maxx).
I guess you have a Droid Turbo.
I've got that update today for my maxx.
So weird, I have also the Maxx and I don't have the update.
After updating to the new Moto version I lost the Moto heading under Settings.
Yes, I do have a Droid Turbo. When I get home today, I can pull the apk and send it to you if you want.
Slow work day. Here are all the Moto related apps: https://mega.nz/#F!nhZG2KLJ!spwQRKKIBf2GTIYwLNbFqA

Has anyone done this on their Xoom?
Any obvious changes for better or worse?
What version is the update? I have 5.1.1 but IDK whether that's an update or not.
EDIT: Nevermind. I just saw the update. Google Market needs to work on the notification system.... Gonna try it now.
UPDATE: No problems so far. I love Google Maps BTW - One of the reasons to get the Xoom
it adds dynamic traffic rerouting. but yeah, for some reason google apps don't show up under my apps thats why we aren't getting notified on them; you can search the app and it will give you the option to update.
This should be interesting. I'm in NYC several times a week and notice that the traffic on GM is generally wrong especially in Manhattan. Even using it on the approaches into NYC from NJ, I find Inrix and MSN to be much more accurate.
The Latitude launcher button moved from next to the menu button to the left side of the screen, all by itself. Took me a sec to find it, but I'm glad I did cause I almost just complained that they removed the button altogether

should be 5.2.1. update works great
I was very excited when I got the pop up notification of a system update available on my phone. I dug around online to try and find a changelog with no luck. So I decided to pull the trigger anyway and see if it fixed any of my main frustrations with the phone.
There are 3 things that should be a simple update to fix yet none of the 3 were included.
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858043
Ability to change default homescreen. I like having screen 2 as the default so I can page left for utility apps/widgets and page right for music/play apps/widgets. Apparently the homescreen furthest left is always the default. Every other launcher I have ever used has let you specify which homescreen you want to be the default.
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815915
I spent the $50 or so for the desktop dock since I use my phone as my alarm clock on my nightstand. EVERY time I plug the phone it (set to bedside clock to launch as default) it comes up with an error that smartdock has stopped working. I shouldn't have to revert to an old version of the Google store as a workaround, a system update should have fixed this!
3) Phone/Notification ring volumes are independant with no way to link together. (couldn't find a reference thread)
When I use the volume rockers on the side of the phone it adjusts only the incoming call ringer volume, not the notification volume. If I want both to be loud or both to be quiet I have to pull down the notification bar, tap the settings icon, tap the sound icon, tap volumes and adjust both, which can not be done silently as the ringer plays as you adjust them! THIS IS NOT CONVENIENT AT ALL!!! My old Atrix 4g had the option to link the 2 together which makes the most sense! Again, this should be a simple option to add with a patch.
I know these are little things in the big picture, but the fact that a patch was pushed out and failed to address any of them leaves me very frustrated. Apparently the only thing that seems to have changed with a 70+mb update is a new camera icon.

Sorry to hear that the update didn't live up to your expectations. For your first problem though, I would recommend an alternative launcher. The most popular ones used for ICS and above are Apex Launcher and Nova Launcher (I personally use Nova Launcher Prime, the paid version of Nova).
Just for clarification - you were in the soak test for this update, correct?

Well I guess that's the beauty of Android isn't it. I can download an alternate launcher, find an app to fix the volume thing and roll back to a previous version of the app store and all will be well. Guess it's time to do some "customizing".
If I am part of the soak test it would be news to me. All I know is while I was at work yesterday afternoon I got a pop up saying an update was available. I can't remember if I signed up for anything like beta testing or not.

If you opted in to the Motorola Feedback Network on the Motorola forums, then you are most likely a part of the soak test which is currently testing the update.
Hmm, I went to try my usual logins on the motorola forums page, found out I had only part way registered. It new my username/password but took me to an "edit your profile page" that allowed me to opt in to the Feedback Network. Apparently I hadn't done that before. Also I didn't have any devices registered there. Doesn't look like I got signed up for the soak test that way.
I spent a few minutes playing with 3rd party launchers and found out that the circles widget does not work with non stock launchers. I have come to really like the simplicity of the circles widget. I'll have to decide if a non-optimal default homescreen is worth the hassle to keep the circles widget.
I also tried to revert to an older version of google play music, but can't get it back to the version mentioned in the desktop dock crashing thread.
Downloading a free app called cVolume seems to have linked the phone/notifications volume.
So for now I am 1 for 3 on getting things straightened out. Maybe we will get the JB update soon and all of this will become a moot point...
I have to say I'm very happy with the new update...IMO the software was holding this device back and since the update I have had next to 0 lag.....actually love this device now.....sucks your having issues

Can you tell what has changed in the new update?
Don't get me wrong, the update didn't make anything worse. In fact I have noticed a few things running more smoothly.
My frustration comes from the update seemingly ignoring the minor complaints I have with the software. I was hoping the update fixed the things that bother me and it didn't do that.
Still the phone is a great phone and I plan on keeping it for a while.

Now if only Motorola and AT&T would push the update OTA for everyone....
After the update my external sdcard has become locked. Unable to add new files / delete old ones. Formatting doesn't work. Any ideas?

I guess you tried to reboot the phone with nothing attached to the usb port but sd card in ?
My phone has never touched a computer until last night when I flashed back to 77.10.16 in hopes of fixing the problem. No go. I read online in a number of places stating that certain phone companies are locking sd cards if it's in during an ICS update. Sadly, this was a class 10 32gb sandisk and it seems like I'll be needing a new one.

I just saw on moto news this.
https://plus.google.com/106984013892934805292/posts/FQoszHnY3sH
there is app updates for:
Motorola Gallery v304100
Motorola Camera v5.0.7.1
Motorola Help v1.4.32
Motorola Update Services v7.0.1
Motorola Contextual Services v5.18.063
Motorola Migrate v1.6.0.30
Moto app v2.2.8
here is the link
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/motorola-mobility-llc/
did anyone try to update, what is working and what is not?
The fact they are Moto updates means everything should be working Otherwise they probably wouldn't be released
So yes, clearly they are working. And working great. UI changes are meh though. And you can ALWAYS downgrade if the updates don't work
i upgraded camera - nothing seems new, new icon
then upgraded gallery - 5.0 icon, highlight reel added like on 2014 moto x
The camera and gallery work the rest do not work at all and break touchless for me
Has anyone else actually loaded and tried these
update: motorola mobility llc. decided to remove all .apks from website, so who downloaded and installed enjoy new updates and everyone else, wait for OTA which will be coming soon
Anyone have these apks that they can share?
Just curious, thanks.
Can anyone upload the moto contextual services 5.18.063?The file in the apkmirror is not found, many thanks……

Many thanks…I download the service, but it failed to install…Mine is droid razr maxx,i think it is the question…The moto assist ported in my phone works fine, just the home mode could not work, i think it belongs to the moto contextual service issue.so i want to the new version

Thanks they all worked here except for one.
i can't download.... why?
Thanks, I couldn't get them to download properly but I'll try again from my desktop. Maybe mediafire isn't liking the mobile download right now.
I got all working from my phone thanks! I had to remove assist and reboot before the new moto apk would install. Thanks for posting! All worked for me.
Update. Moto app installs but says it is not for this device.
My touch less display still works fine also.
What do you mean by remove assist?

Made a back up with titanium back up and uninstalled it after. Rebooted, then installed moto.apk however when launching moto it says its not compatible with device. So I deleted moto and restored assist. So all worked for me except the moto.apk no issues with them yet as well.
yes... moto app is not working but it will be in future, i think that is one of main reason why they removed all apks (who apply for soak testing probably know what am i talking) and the other reason is when ppl install context and update services it mess up their statistic...

Today I started getting alerts about a new Sony software update (OTA and in PC Companion), but cannot find any info about the update. Is this a minor firmware update, or the update to Android 5.1 (I'm currently on 5.0.2)?
My guess would be 5.1 as it was recently announced to be coming. Otherwise, no idea
What's the version number according to the update app?
I'm 100% sure that it's still just 5.0.2, as Sony announced 5.1 for July at its soonest, but August seems more likely to me and by the time the roll-out is completed for all regions and carriers, it will probably be ~October~November.
Latest non-carrier 5.0.2 firmware 23.1.A.1.28 was released on the 6th of May and it still hasn't rolled out to my region, which is Belgium.
Some regions and carriers are very, very slow with pushing updates.

That's the odd thing... there is no version number that I can see and I don't want to risk actually installing the update to find out. It's actually called a "system update", so maybe not a new version of Android? Has anyone else in the US had a system update pushed OTA to them in the last few days?

I checked my phone last night for an update both from system settings and with my phone connected to the Sony Companion program. It came up with nothing on both ends.

Same here...
Screenshot, please?
It's probably 23.1.A.1.28
Or 23.2.A.1.62 if your phone is branded T-Mobile, Telekom.de or Cosmote
For US it's still 23.1.A.1.28, but customization moved from R4C to R5C.

No idea what R4C to R5C means. Could you elaborate? I assume it's basically a few bug fixes.
I got the same. It was called 'system update' but it was for 'What's New' and 'Sony Music'
So it seems to be a system app update.

That sucks. I have What's New disabled, and was planing to hang on to the Walkman app name for as long as possible. But now I can't get rid of the update notification, apparently, unless I update. I feel like Sony's holding me hostage. The "postpone" options for the notification don't work

That sucks how they do this to us. I have not yet decided if i wantvthe z3c yet but recently has a similar situation with my original moto x.
I didn't want to update but they practically force it on you. It got to the point where the notification constantly popped up no matter what and even interrupted me during crucial moments while using various apps.
Finally had to give in and do the update. Best of luck and hope it works out for you
Will I loose root if I OTA update?
To make the notification go away just kill update center from settings->application.
Hello,
I've noticed that ever since the last official OneUI updare for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 I get two options for opening facebook links that point to the same app. Is this safe or is my phone hacked/insecure? Android security patch level is July 2019.
Cheers!

humm maybe something having to do with dual messenger or something?
i dont use facebook but check that menu none the less.
Hi man, that was a good suggestion, I had no idea what Dual Messenger is, but after some digging I know now that it's used to access different accounts for some apps that would normally use just one login. Unfortunately it's off for both facebook and (facebook) messenger. So there might be something else, also the name of the app itself is the same.

maybe 1 old preloaded Facebook from stock and another from an other source(sideload or from an store like aptoide). just go to system /apps and delete/disable/uninstall it). if you see 2 then theres ure issue. uninstall both and get a fresh copy off of playstore. then check if it is still there 2x in ure choices when u open a link. if yes then i suspect you might have some other app maybe faking it? idunno...
i have the same issues. as we know that facebook came pre installed in our phone, so my guess is that one is the pre installed version and one is the version that got updated in playstore. this issue needs to be addressed by the samsung. hopefully in next update.
