Hi,
Have the same issue, too !
hmm, looks like a android 2.3 issue on that one....
The same here. Is there any way to do a downgrade to 2.2? The phone is unusable, I'll have to go back to my old Nokia!!
Also, at the same time, when I plug the earphones on the Nexus, it doesn't detect them and continues playing through internal speaker!! And I suspect that the light sensor doesn't work.
Hasta luego.

RE: how to disable proximity sensor
hey there, this is my second post, THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!! I was able to disable my nexus one proximity sensor using the hex edit method (after granting the app root access) and now a brick to be is no more. thank you to the poster who made the original post and the one who mentioned the way to give hexedit root access. my sensor definition was exactly where he said it would be. the name of course was cm3602 (lowercase, looking for uppercase found nothing) I was able to change hex position 0000323d from 32 to 00 , and poof, no more black screen after dialing or when receiving a call. a temporary solution I was using was to use a bluetooth headset.
Thank you all.

[Q] Need way to disable proximity sensor

My proximity sensor seems to have stopped working (always gives a value of 0.0) as a result whenever a call is placed the screen goes off and i cant do anything at all, cant even end the call. This seems to be hardware problem, as cleaning the area is not helping.
Is there a way to disable the proximity sensor completely/permanently?
The only working way i found was using the "Hardware Disabler" app in play store and disabling /sys/bus/platform/drivers/proximity, but that makes the phone as slow as hell. How would I go about deleting this folder otherwise? Root Explorer is not allowing me to do this.
All the other solutions i found on the net do not help (using proximity recalibration, adding lines to build.prop, putting a script in init.d - Though perhaps I am not using it correctly).
Someone please help. The problem is driving me crazy.
Note: using CM9.0 RC2
Nobody has any issues with the proximity sensor on their phones?
And is there no actual way to disable it?
nobody here who can help?

I still need help on this?
Hi, last time I tried MIUI rom and iinm there is an option to disable the proximity sensor. But, if you doesn't like MIUI.. I am don't know any other workaround for it anymore.
Or try some different ROM to make sure if it is actually hardware issue or software issue.....
Use miui rom and press on dial and then menu...Again press on setting and Answer setting .. You will find there the option to disable proximity sensor..

Is proximity working for you in apps?

Yes, another proximity question!
I have trouble with this sensor using 3rd party apps.
On system it works fine without a problem (screen on/off during phone call never had any problems)
but any apps which use this sensor stops working after rebooting.
-Gravity screen on/off
-Automaton gestures
-Automate it!
These are the apps I tried and encountered problems with...so pretty much all of them!
The sensor works, cpuz sees it working with both distances 3cm near and 10cm far, but apps don't :S
For example if I try to record sensor state in automate it it just reads '10 far' and notihng else.
aamof rules with sensor far work fine but with near don't....
I encountered this problem both across 10.1 and 10.2 and different roms...anybody else encountered this isse?
I recalibrated tegra.so from adb...I'll try to go back to stock and try from there recalibration but seen thtat it "works"
I'm not sure how that is going to help.....

yeah, i noticed in viber screen doesn't turn off when you put your phone enxt to your ear. i dont have any other apps that use proximity sensor other than phone app, but that one works without issues.
the issue persists in stock as well as custom roms. no idea how it was on ics, though
It also appears on stock?! wow never would've thought...
It's a pretty considerable bug to have never been mentioned before...
all problems with proximity encountered so far always seemed caused by bad calibration..
this kinda sux :S
Devs and wise people, do you think this could be caused by the fact that the 'near' state is set at 3cm reading and 3rd party apps look for 0 distance with 0% tolerance to have widespread compatibility?
Do you think it is possible to change these settings?

[SOLVED] [Q] (HELP) Permanently disable proximity sensor (tried all apps)

My Nexus 6 now goes off and doesnt come on during call I have to end the call to even see.
I just checked and it has been damaged. I have tried everything and finally thought is there a method by which i can disable it by Build prop or disabling drivers. I have tried all apps so i wanted a root level solution
Please devs help me out
FIX: Finally got the fix in benzo rom, in the call app there is an option to keep screen on during calls (only in newer builds from 25th may onwards). FInally fell in love with N6 all over again
This is very weird.
I have never noticed this kind of radio silence in any of the device threads, but on the most open phone of them all and google flagship was most surprising.
I just wanted to know any root kind of fix for priximity sensor, have googled and tried everything, just wanted some help from a dev
http://forum.xda-dev...-1-rom-t3069031

I think its damaged, hardware problem, jsut wanted to disable it completely
and FYI i dont have any screen protector
the kind of fix I am talking about is this

There's a proximity fix zip for this phone too, but I don't think it will help in your situation.

After a year i finally fixed the proximity sensor problem in the OnePlus 7 Pro

so in short this problem has plagued the phone since day one and i suspected a HW issue since nothing fixed it. for those who dont know whats im talking about, you are lucky. the issue is basically that the proximity sensor is missed up so the screen will light up when you are in a call or listening to Whatsapp/Telegram voice messages.
The Solution:
The problem, turned out, was caused by the factory screen protector that came already applied to the phone. i removed it after it was damaged and also removed the case (Spigen Rugged Armor Case), cleaned the phone and VIOLA its working perfectly fine now...
i hope it works for everyone else.
So, what you are saying is:
Since when this phone got launched in May 2019, not a single user facing the proximity sensor issue had the ingenious idea to remove their factory applied screen protector and you are the first one to come up with this "fix"?
I am really sorry to be this discouraging but: This ain't it chief.
Good that it fixed your perception of the issue though
Comrade, the issue is far graver than that. OnePlus 7Pro does not have a proximity sensor per se. It uses software (an ai I think) to "guess" whether to turn on the screen or not which is why listening to voice notes gets crazy...

Even though it does have an infrared sensor under the screen (that has been proven), i agree with you that it seems to be using something like that.. Curiously, the proximity sensor once fired when i flicked off my lights in my room.. This indeed leads me to believe there is more going on than just a simple infrared proximity sensor..
But yeah, i don't think removing the stock screen protector "fixes" the thing.. It may improve things but i doubt it's a fix.. As i said, this phone has been out for a while and people would have noticed if removing the screen protector fixes the proximity sensor for good..So yeah, cheers mate.
I took the screen protector off before I turned the phone on for the first time. I still get the screen lighting up while I'm on a call, often muting it with my cheek.
I must be lucky but at the moment I have no such issue with my new OP7P (MFD: 2019/05). RR Rom. Still have the screen protector on it. What's the MFD of your unit ?
i have problem with my oneplus since i rooted this phone
after root i have installed pixel expereince rom
when i called i found proximity sensor not working
now almost 6 months no fixed i'm stock oos
please help me there is no guard on my phone also no cover
The simplest solution for me has been to use a Bluetooth headset. I rarely use it without it.
