Hello,
I ve found a way to disable system update service.
1. Download disable service from the play store.
2. Disable All thread under Device update
3. Disable SystemUpdateService under Google Play services

vandoor
it worked!
I just followed the steps and the update notification in my nexus 5 is gone!
thanks a lot!
If you just want to remove the notification you can long press the notification, go to App Info and uncheck Notifications.

First of all the thread is a little old, and secondly all that does it remove notifications for that, it still downloads in the background and you might miss other important notifications.

If I recall I believe I read somewhere years ago that said if you rename the ..fota.apk in system/apps it will not check for a system update? Perhaps I am mistaken...its been a couple years.

Keep in mind that doing it that way only hides the notification.
It will still download, and it WILL wakelock to do so.

I am using this to disable the OTA notification for Lollipop. It eliminates the notification but the update is still available under About Phone/System Updates, and it requires touching "Download" to download. So, why do you think the OTA will still occur?

I'm saying that it will just hide all system notifications, NOT get rid of the OTA. You'll miss other system notifications if you do get any and the OTA will still be waiting.

So what other options are there? I downloaded 'Disable Service' from Play Store, unchecked the three everyone has been suggesting, but those three would then wakelock my phone 100% of the time.
Thanks for the heads up OP!

If you check app info you will notice you are disabling notifications for Google play services app. This app has nothing in common with standard android system notifications so they will continue to work. Question is, what other notifications does play services app has that could be considered important to the user.
My phone is on the latest firmware with 5.0.2. I successfully rooted my phone after a couple of sleepless nights and tons of stress when the phone suffered a boot loop. I do not want to undergo that process anytime shortly, though fun it was. (Damn! I keep speaking like Yoda) Sony keeps pushing updates every ten days and it creates trouble all over again. I searched before I posted this and in kitkat there was an option under personalisation to disable OTA. However that no longer is present. Can the OTA be disabled? Can anyone tell me how to do it?
There is a app called update center as i remember correct. In the app there u can turn off ota notification. Or flash a debloated rom, most of them has no ota app
Hey basti thanks for the reply but I am not able to find any such app. Tried whatsnew app and disabled updates but I guess that is only for apps that comes like xperia lounge. Further clarity would be nice.

When the update notification appears at the top of your phone, pull down to reveal the notification menu. Long press and hold on the update message and an option to view "app info" will pop up. Click on that option and it will take you to the update notification screen where you will see a check box that you will have to clear to prevent notifications from appearing for OTA updates.

Great idea puffdaddy but the only problem is that I am looking for a way to prevent it from downloading itself. In my phone, on the last occasion, the update was already downloaded and then it informed me that it was ready to be installed. I am ideally looking for a way to prevent the download itself

I haven't seen this one come across - I'm on T-Mobile with an S10+. I did do the original update which was approx 462mb (it was 2am when I did it, so can't be sure), but nothing since then.
I am having the same issue. The message is being generated from TADownloader. All I get is the download, then couldn’t update try again

Seems a possible solution is to disable the Secure Folder. Figured this out myself after a phone call to Samsung where they told me they couldn't support the third party TADownloader which is made and installed by Samsung.
I Got this in the morning. Installed and updated. No details as to what it was fixing though.
Fingerprint
It's firmware update for the fingerprint reader
I also received and updated successfully
I did the update this morning successfully. I read it was available since yesterday on other countries and i was worried I wouldn't be able to do it because my phone is rooted now, but it was an "application" update not firmware update.
The fingerprint scanner is actually FAST now. Especially if you turn off the animation, it feels like S9 fast. It only misses if i don't place my finger fully on the scanner (duh), so there is some getting used to position your finger, but I am glad to see they actually fixed it this time.

Didn't work for me. I've had secure folder disabled from day 1. I went back and enabled all the knox crap plus the secure folder just in case the update relied on something from them. After enabling it installed. Not sure which specific service/app needed to be enabled.

Can't apply this manually
Seems like it's a Galaxy App Store update. It also can't be triggered manually. Did any T-Mobile USA customers get it on their device?
Can someone send an apk of it. It is the biometrics app
Didn't receive the update yet... Exynos
Nothing I seen to do is allowing it to update. I turned off secure folder, ensured all apps were enabled, and even disabled Adhell3.
To those who successfully applied the update, are you still on the ASBA software update or did you get the later one already? I'm still on ASBA so maybe that's causing the problem?

Hi.
I just noticed that when I received a WhatsApp message I get no notification. Same when someone calls me on WhatsApp. The notification only shows up when I open WhatsApp.
Something that it's probably related, accubatery doesn't provide any stats, everytime I open it it's like I start it for the first time.
I'm pretty sure there is some hidden task killer that doesn't allow most of the apps to do background stuff.
Any idea?
PS: I removed WhatsApp and Accubatery from batery optimization, reinstalled both apps, same thing.
Thanks
LE: In case someone runs into this, disable "deep process clean" feature under settings/system/advanced. It should sort it out.
Same problems
I have the same problems but I can't solve.
Any ideas?

I don't think it's possible that the CN rom would have a glaring fault like this - "Deep Process Clean" enabled but not having an option to disable it.
The whole moniker is pretty clearly a badly translated Chinese version of the concept.
Perhaps, two different people translated it from Chinese to English in the two roms.
Here's a suggestion:
1) Process could be "task", "program", "app."
2) Clean could be "kill", "end", "terminate."
3) Deep could be "Old", "late", "unused."
An actual native speaker of Chinese would probably knock it out of the park on first attempt. Still, I think it's worth a try.
any solved yet for cn rom?

It seems to have disappeared from settings... Do you have notification problems?
Right after the update to NA 1.18, there were no problems - the Deep Process Clean setting disappeared, but notifications were coming in fine.
That was months ago. Now, I just tested Gmail, and it won't receive emails until the phone is turned on.
We need a solution to this. Quickly.

Hi, sorry to bother you, but is there going to be an update to NA or Global RM3 rom soon?
The problem is that the "Deep Process Clean" option disappeared from settings, and now the phone won't get notifications until it is turned on. The notifications were fine immediately after 1.18 update, but now, 1.5 months later, Gmail won't work until the phone is turned on. Some other people have also noticed this behavior.
If there's an update coming up, could you ask the engineers to put the "Deep Process Clean" option back please?
Thanks.

Version 1.18 removed the deep process clean feature due to some bugs, it will kill the apps and preventing them to run in background. You can do a factory reset and see if you can get the notification.

I am not sure what to make of it.
1) The option was removed, but clearly, the code is still there that kills the background apps.
2) He suggested that I do a factory reset, because I may "see if you can get the notification." I would hate to the reset the phone and find out it still kills apps.
3) I wonder if there's any way to clear cache or data from some app/system app to make this work.
Any ideas?
I just got the Pixel 5 and absolutely love it!
However, I keep having this very odd and reoccurring issue where at least once or twice a day, when I tap on the GM app, I get a blank screen and can't access my messages UNLESS I close out the app and clear the cache as well. Then it's fine. But when this issue occurs, any pics or attachments sent to me are no longer accessible. I tap on them, and it just tells me they're expired even though the person had just sent them like 10 minutes or so ago. The blank screen thing is bad enough, but this is def worse because then I have to ask the person to resend whatever they'd sent.
Does anyone here have ANY clue why this is happening? It's really annoying. I've tried all sorts of things including clearing the data for GM, as well as for the SMS and MMS system apps, uninstalling and then reinstalling GM's updates (since you can't uninstall the app itself because it's a Google phone), etc. But honestly I can't seem to fix the issue.
If anyone here has a resolution for this issue, please reply to this post as I'm sure I'm not the only one dealing with this.
Thanks in advance!!!

I didn't have the same issue but did have Google messages issues where conversations would take a while to load up and messages would take minutes to send.
I went to the play store, turned off auto updates for Messages, then hit uninstall, which just uninstalls the updates and rolls back to an earlier version. Back to normal. Everything worked well.
I eventually did a factory reset and am now running on the latest messages fine.

Thing is, if they put out a fix for this via an update, then turning off auto updates will only postpone resolving the issue too.

You have the option I believe to either restore all messages or not. But one easy thing you can try is to backup all your messages, they have a free 3rd party app, then delete all of them and try GM again to see if it fixes your issue. There might be one message improperly formatted or something that is hanging up your system. Then you can restore what you need and not everything. Worth a shot.

Go to the app in the play store and on the very top right click on the three dots. You'll get a drop down box where you can toggle automatic updates.
Some of these issues are so finicky when factory resets won't help. Good luck
