Is it possible to run Auto on the phone (without head unit)? I'm asking because all I have is a phone holder.

I don't have a tablet to connect it to, if that's what I need. I was trying to run it directly on my phone from my phone. I don't think I had any idea what I was doing with the app, but when I clicked 'self', it took me to aa with a message saying my device isn't compatible.
If you look around on the innernets you can probably find a file called media-browser-simulator.apk which is the AA "viewer". It runs on 5.0 and above.
Don't ask me for it, I don't have it.

It's on one of Google's developer sites and it's as awful as the first version released around November because it IS still the same version.
At Google IO they said they'd release a better one later this year.

What do you guys prefer? What have you been using?
Have you noticed anything that one has and the other doesn't? I've noticed that Motorola's implementation just opens up Google and therefore it seems to be a little bit of a slower solution.
What do you guys think?

It opens Google for commands that the Moto app doesn't handle itself. So it can be a bit slower but the Lollipop version is actually pretty fast compared to the KK version.
I still use moto because I like the hands free stuff at home and in the car. But yes, simple things like "what's the weather like" and "what time is it" takes a lot longer.

Do I have a choice? Is it possible to replace the motorola version with the google version and still have the 'always listening' capability?

You can disable the Moto app in favor of the Google version but you will lose always listening unless you're plugged in.
No you can now have Google Now on always listening even with the screen off and locked.

My Google Now app (on the Lollipop OTA) doesn't give me the option for always-on listening. How did you enable it?
Make sure you have the newest version and just "enable while screen is locked"
No go. You've apparently got a newer version than I do. Here's what my option says:
"When locked:
Allow "Ok Google" to start a voice search of action from a secure lock screen"
Did you install Search or the Now Launcher or some other libraries from APK mirror? Or did you just install the latest version from the play store?

Works from the lock screen, but it doesn't give you the ability to use it when the screen is powered off, unless it's just a problem with my phone. Only the Moto app seems to let me do that.
I literally just read an article today about the newest version of Google search and installed the apk. That could be it.
Thanks. Can you direct us to where you read the article and where you got the file?

After looking around, I'm not even sure this is possible. I know you say, zgroten, that you can search with the screen off, but are you _really_ sure you can do it while you're unplugged?
Google, in their blog post, listed only the "Nexus 6, Nexus 9 or Samsung Galaxy Note4" as phones capable of using always-on listening. They did not mention the Moto X 2014.
Yes in the new search it is always listening. The function works on several non moto phones as well.

Pimp****420, do you have a source for this? If it works for you, can tell/link us to how you got it working. We're on the latest Google search with the latest google now launcher and it doesn't work for us.
Is there a way to go back after the fact?
and for a follow up question. I had about 6 copies of an old phone, how can i delete them.(or where are they stored?)
People know what i am talking about right?
During the initial setup right after the NFC tap and go.
My two questions are still, Can i do this after setup, and how do i delete that data?

The copies are stored on Google servers. They don't have a way to delete them as of yet.
If you'd like to try to restore again you must factory reset and it will get you back to that phone restore again.
I wish there was because I have 30 of them now.

I didn't see a way there.
Also my new nexus 6 is not putting data there even though i say its ok. I just have all the test roms i did with my LG G3 and lollipop. How can i make sure my phone is uploading the data?
This seems like such a great feature to even share app data between like a tablet and your phone. I hope they expand this really bad.

I contacted Play support last night to RMA my Nexus 9. The girl said I had too many Google devices on my account, and asked me for a second email address to assign the ownership of the tablet to. I laughed and offered to send a few older Nexus devices back.

That's funny actually because you can't remove your devices. It sucks when you look through your list but hopefully they will let you delete old ones soon.

Its annoying because if you flash a different ROM on a device, that device now shows up twice in the Play Store settings (https://play.google.com/settings)
I have numerous Nexus 4/5/7/6/9 entries. I was once told that after two years of inactivity, the device drops off, but I have an old Acer tablet with a last used date of July 23, 2012 still sitting on my list.

This was quite a big update. Mine needed ca. 1/2 hour to update with several restarts and I needed to reset to factory and configure watch again resulting in 50% battery-loss.
So, I have a new watch (that I haven't opened, yet), and I'm thinking that I should just wait for Android Wear 2.0 to come out before my first usage, rather than install an update now, and another big update in a couple of weeks.
What do you all think?

Well as far as I know its never been confirmed our watch (original urbane) will get 2.0 I don't know they have made a statement either way actuallu. Now if you have the lte urbane yes you will get 2.0 but waiting seems silly either way. You spend all that money on a watch why not use it?
Yeah not really understanding the thought process on that. You've bought it. Just use it and enjoy it. Android wear 2.0 will be a nice chance if we get it, but there is nothing wrong with the current software.

on spanish lg urbane site it states that this watch has 2.0
as a physical button is a requirement (which the urbane has) it's very likely to get 2.0 while seeing they are putting out a good job delivering security patches.
I've read numerous sources saying the Urbane will get Wear 2. And given that it's LG's last generation of smartwatch behind only the Urbane 2nd edition, and that it fulfils all hardware requirements to get the update, it really wouldn't speak well of LG's support for their hardware if they refuse to give it the update. And strictly speaking, the Watch R should also get it given that the only difference between it and the Urbane is visual, but as that is two generations back it's perhaps expecting a little too much.
I for one will be p****d if LG leave the Urbane behind with this update.
So both my sister and I have the same model unlocked Pixel 5 and are using our phones on T-Mobile's network as well.
I've noticed that on my phone I get the Google Play system update (not to be confused with the main phone/security update) whenever I do a manual check for it and a new one's available (Settings, Security, Google Play system update, tap on "Check for update"). But when I do the same thing on her phone, it doesn't update it, even after I restart and ensure that the Google Play Store app is up-to-date as well.
Eventually her phone finally got the December 1 update a couple weeks ago after I tried again, but then now there's a January 1 update and once again mine let me download it right away, but her phone refuses to update that regardless of what I do (main update it does do just fine though).
I'm guessing it will update it soon enough, but why the delay? Can anyone explain why two IDENTICAL phones won't update this at the same time when manually prompted?

Hey Saturday Night,
Thanks for the link. However, even if it does work for her phone, I still would rather not use it b/c doing so doesn't solve the actual issue of why it's not updating it automatically, or at the very least, when I attempt to update it manually (by doing a recheck).
It seems to update eventually, but I just find it annoying that my phone will do it when I recheck, but not her's. Makes no sense since again we have the same model phone and are on the same carrier.

Same thing happens to me but in reverse. My wife P5 gets it and then about a month later I get it on my P5. I don't really think about it since it really doesn't affect anything. Is there a reason you feel you need it?

Ok, so it's not JUST me. Good to know. lol
No, not really. As I'd mentioned, it's really not a big deal. I just hope it doesn't indicate that there might be a deeper issue present with her phone. Also, I just hate that I can't explain why it happens at all. lol

The only thing I can think of is that it's a staged rollout and a random one at that. I update my phone's apps more often than she does so I figured that might be it and then forgot about it. A month later it popped up. I believe the monthlies are way more critical and those come at the same time.

That's not really an update but more of a place holder. The real update is much larger and can't be installed with an apk. It will change the date to make it look up to date but that's it.
