Btw I dont think you have successfully unlocked your bootloader. Check it. Use flashtools it is million times easier.

i flashed a stock signed rom (using TWRP) and it is back on

I want to install CyanogenMod 7.1 on my X8 but am a little unsure. I have some questions...
i) Do I have to unlock the bootloader?
ii) Which CyanogenMod firmware is the best/most popular (pls give link)?
iii) In order to install the CM firmware are these the only steps I need to follow...
"1. Be sure to backup all your current data such as apps, contacts, messages etc before installing a custom ROM.
2. Transfer all the zip files needed to make the ROM work and the ROM itself on your SD card. We do this now because stock ROM won't boot up with a custom kernel.
3. Choose your kernel, download it and put the .ftf file in the "Firmwares" folder of Flashtool.
4. Open Flashtool.
5. Press the flash button. Make sure "flash mode" is selected and press OK.
6. Select the kernel you want to install and press OK.
7. Shut down your phone While holding the back button. Insert the USB cable.
8. Wait till the process has finished and remove the USB cable.
9. Boot up your phone and as soon as the kernel logo appears, start pressing the back button continuously multiple times till you get to CWM recovery. Now its time to flash the ROM.
10. Follow the instructions on the ROM's thread on how to install it.
11. Enjoy!"
Thank-You.
:
Unlocking bootloader only needed if you want to change the stock kernel to custom kernel, just remember that your phone should be rooted before have CWM or xRecovery..
I think GingerDx or GingerXperia is better just googling to find the rom.
MiniCm7 2.2.0 and GingerDx v026 r the best roms for me. I use MiniCm7 2.2.0 cuz it runs on nAa-11 or Alfs-Cm7 v8a and my phones WiFi works best with those kernels...
MiniCM7 2.2.0: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362585
Its all there how to flash that rom...
most popular now are DX and PrimeHD.
I prefer the second because for me its FASTER and today PrimeHD v9 released!!! for all kernels CM 7.2 | Stock / nAa / Alfs
here is the link:

You should considered GingerZakari too. Some experiance members report its a very fast rom
lets get Ice cream sandwich
Thanks for the reply everyone. I attempted to install GingerDX but failed big time! I didn't unlock the bootloader, I dont think I had to. I tried installing it by following the instructions, but I don't know what I did wrong, I failed at everything flashing/installing/wiping memory etc... I (nearly) killed my X8-it would show the Sony Ericsson boot image but not boot up. Luckily I restored the stock 2.1 Android by Sony Update Service.
I really am pissed off from this custom ROM cr*p and have given up .
But thx for helping me anyway.
maybe you cant try some ROMs like miniCM7 or GingerZaraki(use alfs)
after you unlock bootloader, you can flash the kernel to upgrade your phone.
so you must unlock BL to do everything
if you're not unlock BL you may brick your phone
After I failed I tried again , I done more research and found out about GingerDX, it didn't need unlocked bootloader and it worked on the stock kernal while providing GB. I got all the tools I needed and gave it a go; and after a few attempts I got it to work and now I am using it and it runs superbly, much better than (stupid) stock Eclair!
Thanks for the advice, I figured out that to run CM I need unlocked bootloader-I cannot unlock mine because it it network locked and there is no info on unlocking bootloader in service menu. But I am very happy with GingerDX!

So , i rooted my X8 yesterday and then installed CWM. Everything went fine (I was following tutorials made here - awesome work by the way)
then when i loaded 3 custom roms , i went to CWM made a backup , formated cache , data , system and then when i tried installing them i got the error 7. ive seen that its a common error. So after that , i couldnt load the phone and it was stuck in "Sony Ericsson" screen forever. couldnt load CWM aswell. Then i flashed the original ftf and it booted normally. rooted again and installed CWM. Next thing , i flashed 2.6.29.6-nAa-jb-03 Custom jb kernel. Everything went fine , then i formated data , cache and system. But when i tried to load the Roms it couldnt mount sd card.
So now i can neither install a rom nor restore the phone.
Can someone help me ?
(by the way , phone stays at nAa Freedom Within screen. or the CWM )
What's the point in flashing that kernel?

re insert the sd card, i too have experienced this problem many times, try it mate
Okay , so i tried inserting it again and again. nothing really changed.
Gogeta to be honest , im a total newb @ these things i just started readin about custom roms rooting e.t.c
So , can you tell me why i didnt need to flash that kernel?
i mean i wanted to instal MiniCM10 and the requiremenents were these
Requirements:
Latest 2.1.1.A.0.6/2.1.1.C.0.0 SE firmware / Baseband: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015
Unlocked bootloader
Latest version of the 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel
latest not old, naa05 is the latest

Oh , so that would be the problem right?
How do i fix this? i need to flash the original tft then root again - install recovery - unlock using s1tool and then flash the latest nAa?
Thank you by the way.
you can enter recovery so you can flash the new version by wiping data cache and system, but first, is your sd card formatted? format it first to avoid those problems

oh Yeah
i tried flashing stock FTF and i even tried to flash full or just the kernel
the kernel finishes without error and the full ROM crashes at the end of flashing the system (kernel, partition, FOTA etc all good)
EDIT 1
i managed to enter CWM but battery level too low to flash
Hi! Some months ago I flashed a kernel from here in XDA. The kernel was from Doomlord, to install CWM Recovery. But the device came into infinite boot. Then to solve it I flashed a stock rom (12.0.A.2.254) to see if the problem was solved..
Solved problem, the device came to normal (at least the infinite loop was solved).
But after flashing the Doomlord kernel, even flashing a stock rom, when I receive a message and visualize it, the LED stays turned on, and off only when rebooting. When I reboot the device, date/time are lost. The date in the top bar is updated only if I turn off the screen and then turn on again.
I tried reblock bootloader and repair from PC Companion. I tried flash the stock 4.3. I tried flash only the stock kernel. But nothing solves the problem.
Someone can help me?
Sorry for my english, I'm brazilian
You CANNOT relock bootloader while in custom kernel.
Unlock bootloader again, go in flashtool and flash the stock ftf, doom kernel isn't stable yet, use only stock or try another kernel...

Do you have the link to some kernel .elf that I can try to flash? If I unlock BL again and flash some stock .elf the problem could be solved?
Yes, but I recommend to flash a whole stock rom ftf after unlocking bl...
I passed through this situation too

I unlocked BL and flashed a stock (12.1.A.1.207). The problem continues. I tried too flash a stock 12.0.A.2.254 after unlock BL. In 4.1 the only problem is the date that is lost when rebooting. But flashing 4.3 stock all the previous problems continues. After receive messages, even if I read it, LED still on until I reboot the device. Date is lost after reboot, bla bla..
Maybe the problem is not the kernel that I flashed some months ago. What do you think? Some idea?
Guy, try this rom, and say if the problem continues

Hi, Dear xda members
Last week i soft bricked my Sony Xperia Z c6603
After flashing modified kernel, i lost everything
I couldn't reach recovery even couldn't flash one with fastboot(as my device was not recognized)
I tried flashing offcial firmware through flashtool. It succeeded flashing
But After reboot i had bootloob and the ROM didn't boot
Finally I had a solution to get my phone fixed. Here's what i did:
*Reboot to FlashMode
*In flashtool I flashed TWRP Recovery in FlashMode
Now all custom ROMs are working but when I flash an official and other ROM's based on official, I'm having bootloops
Tried to wait. NO result
Could you help me with it?
P.S the modified kernel was made by this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...ot-automatic-repack-stock-kernel-dm-t3301605/
When i softbricked my phone I tried to fix it according to this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...rick-sony-xperia-z-c6602-c6603-c6606-t3215134

I have several problems too including not being able to run stock anymore. (endless black screen after experia logo). I tried flashtool (latest stock via xperifirm), Sony's flashtool. Companion didn't even want to flash (UEGetPhoneInfoMissingInfo), and left me wondering wether something is corrupt.
I've been running CM's for a while now and was wondering why NFC was not working. Not sure if it needs an updated firmware or what.
Other problem I've seen is that "fastboot flash recovery" always gives an error. "fastboot flash boot" works (this is how I install TWRP).
Can I try zeroing mmcblk0 or would that brick it? (does it really need to have a TA partition to accept boot connection? How does Sony init it anyways?)
I think I have a mmcblk0 backup from after unlocking (DRM lost though) but perhaps that will give me a somewhat clean situation again. Or perhaps I can compare it.
Edit: dd-ed my old mmc backup and now Xperia Companion didn't give an error anymore, did a factory reset, and after a long wait of the blue waving animation, I got it to work.
Even NFC firmware update started after rooting and deleting /data/ucf folder.
Now I want to go back to Nougat xD
