Hi,
I will have SGS right from factory where SGS are made.
So I will have only hardware without any OS. I mean there is no Android, nothing...just new telephone.
I would like to ask, how to instal Android on this mobile, when I cant use combo of buttons to go recovery or any mod?
Or it ist these mods arent finction of Android, so it will by possible to use this combos without any OS?
Should I use Odin to install OS for the first time? How should I use Odin in such situation because in forums I found just installing FW on working DOWNLOAD or RECOVERY mod...
Could you give me some short tutorial?
Sorry for my english, im foreign member so I cant explain it very well...
Thanks for answers
I'm also interested in this I think you have to download Android from the official webpage and then compile the kernel following the documentation. But you need drivers and Samsung does not provide them
I dont understand how to compile and what is kernel and where is the documentation...
If samsung dont provide drivers, you thing it is impossible to install it?

If you don't have download mode (vol down + home + power), then you have a paperweight.

Im sorry to ask this (its really noobish..) but im getting my optimus 2x tomorrow and would like to install a custom rom on it simply because of most reports being that LG stock is crap! Ive had a Htc HD2 for ages now and am used to flashing that and android for it but it seems that flashing for the optimus is different?
Ive been looking but i havent really found anything to help me grasp the basics on flashing the optimus so id appreciate if anyone could just give me a very basic guide for example:
1. Download this program
2. Run the program and then select your rom to flash
(something like that?)
And also the main question i have is, is there a way to undo all the flashes and return it back to stock so it will be fine for warranty replacements? As some hardware issues are mentioned id rather keep my warranty if possible!
Any helps appreciated, im still reading through all the threads in the android dev section but again i dont want to brick my brand new phone as its different to the HD2!.
There is nvflash for flashing back to the stock roms when/if needed.
Rooting is simple just find SuperOneClick.
Next you need to get ClockworkMod Recovery on there, latest version is here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/l...-clockworkmod-recovery-for-the-lg-optimus-2x/
Put the zip file of your Rom on your external sd card.
Boot into recovery (Power On whilst holding Volume Down)
WIPE, make a nandroid backup, then find the Rom you want using power button as enter and volume keys to navigate.
THANKYOU! Obviously cant do anything till tomorrow but i appreciate you answering my post and giving me the low down , i have been reading the cyanogenmod wiki page (only found it recently lol) which has also been helpful but the main issue for me was not knowing if i could flash back to stock for warranty, since i can then im a lot happier .
im making the big move from android i was will the cydia community from the begining and i want to move on to bigger and better things now this is true android noob coming out of me what is the best noob thread to root my phone sgh-I897 with 2.1 update 1
i dont even know where to start and after waiting 2 weeks to make this post hoping that i could find what i need has come down to asking for help
Read all the noob threads that are stickied. This little tool is great AIO Toolbox
i have read everyone but there is still this part of me that asks why is everyone different m scared to do this and then find out o wait i should have used that post how can i positive what thread will work for me and if it is the AIO toolbox how do i can that's what im getting at
Is there anyway be positive that aio will work
There isn't 1 sure way. Most of the times there are many right ways to do it. If your phone is on 2.1 then its will take well to JF6 and might have the 3button glitch. AIO will get you root access to your phone. If you are going to flash a rom then you can just ODIN a kernel with Clockwork recovery and just flash the rom there, no real need to root it.
ok i think thats what im stuck on why should i not root and do a custom rom a lot of ppl keep saying that to me plus if i root them i can change roms on the fly with the right apps right? so if someone could fill in my blank here

I'm not sure who is telling you that you shouldn't root your phone or install custom roms. The only (minor) reason to not do it is that it technically voids your warranty, but as long as you flash back to a stock rom before sending it to AT&T, you'll be fine.
If you are rooted and have ClockworkMod Recovery, you will be able to flash other roms that you've downloaded at any time.

he wasnt saying not to do it at all. what he meant was there is no reason to root before you flash a rom. the rom itself will be rooted after the flash.
the apps you are thinking of is rom manager, it is useful on other devices but on the captivate not so much. all is does is download an update.zip to your phone with cwm on it and boots you into it. whch you would need root to use the app.
BUT you can do it manually quite easily without the need to root. I've attached the update.zip that rom manager would download. put this and a froyo rom (gingerbread roms require an extra step) on root directory of your sdcard then boot into recovery by holding all three buttons and releasing when the screen comes on. you will see a blue menu, scroll down with the volume buttons to "reinstall packages" and select ut with the power button then do that last part again and this time it will boot into cwm. choose install zip from sdcard, then choose zip, find the rom and flash it.
I didn't mean to confuse. Just ment that If he was thinking of loading a costume rom he doesn't even need to root and he can skip it by flashing with ODIN a kernel with CWM. My apologies.
see whats the point of a custom room over a theme anyway however i would love to know what you all think is the best rom for this phone
and the wain reason i want to root is to have more control over the phones settings
and what is the point of cmod7 never really understood that even with the research
Custom rom has been tweaked. Theme is just how it looks. Most roms have themes as well, others keep a "stock" look. There is no "best" rom since its a matter of opinion. If by Cmod7 you mean Cyanogenmod its a AOSP rom (Android Open Source Project).
so Cyanogenmod is a rom so all the other layouts and themes that i see for this are just themes not different roms?

Hi there,
Can anyone help me in installing 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on my Samsung Galaxy Note?
Any help in this regards will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Hafiz
You've to root your phone and install CWM first. It's pretty easy to do. Open up the dev section and you'll find everything there.
Once done, select the ROM that you need. ICS Stunner v5 is by far the best ICS ROM for GN. Read it's forum in the dev section. If you like it, follow the steps mentioned in the forum, it's pretty simple.
Come back if you need any help!
Yeah man you gotta read read and read more...then you tube

One suggestion: Find the links and everything on your own. Read the forums through and through. Everything is in the forums. After finding the links, understanding everything and all, after that if you need help, we're all here to help!

There are lots of things here which are really confusing. so just asked for help.
I know! Even I posted a thread like this when I was new to Android world.

I would wait for the official ICS, because if you want to revert back from Custom ICS Roms it sometimes becomes complicated.
I think we'll see the official ICS May 2012.

Well y'all keep thinking ....or just take the leap like everyone else did....do your home work...like"how to root galaxy note". Hint....plenty of threads and videos out there
...good luck and Godspeed

There are quite a few threads for letting you know the detailed process of installing ICS on Note.
You will have to root your phone first. There is also a nice list of methods to do this.
Go to the Developer section and check the 1st post of ICS Stunner thread.
Read it carefully and also watch the youtube vidoe. All the steps are listed for a newbie..
starting like so......
!) are you rooted ? if not check here
2) are you familiar with how to get to Recovery mode and download mode ? else read carefully
* Volume Up + Home Button + Power Button Until N7000 Boot appears Leave Power Button but keep the other two Buttons Pressed you'll get to Recovery Mode with some options.
* Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button Until n7000 Boot appears leave Power Button keep the other two Buttons Pressed you'll get to Download Mode
- PS : Basicly Up Means Recovery And Down obviously means Download thats how you get to the modes. now recovery can clean applications cache and lets you factory set your device (as if you just bought it and started for first time) other than that you need to know what a kernel is (Android Base and it's a Linux kernel) you can flash any you like as long as it matches your phone's Type example (N7000 kernels match GNote) but I9100 doesn't neither do others so watch for this and mainly search in the right forum so you wont get too far, flashing isn't risky that much but keep your files saved.... especially EFS folder for IMEI (there are many ways in each ROM thread you'll probably have the method and explaine of it NOW WATCH OUT TO FLASH CUTOM ROMS YOU NEED ROOT AND FOR Samsung (ROOT == Void Warrenty) so take the risk at your shoulders we are not responssible for any mistake read and follow read 10 times and act once so you wont fail
Download means using Odin and flashing from PC, Increases counter in Download Mode so Samsung will know that you flashed something and it wont intrest them what cause you have no warrenty left, if you flash stock ROMS (not modified) the counter wont increase, most cases you do that if you have a region problem or a curiosity or even a soft brick (means your phone has no Recovery Mode and no Vibration or even a screen text just Download Mode works (u'll use odin to wake it up by flashing a stock ROM) a hard brick means no one can help you if its caused by flashing only a guy or company which repaires and uses JTAG or replaces part (MotherBoard).....
for now thats all....
now installation is simple ROOT and flash that ICS Look theme thats it after you ROOT you'll CMW mostly with SU (SuperUser) permissions so no need for odin flash via Recovery options... and you're set!
GOOD LUCK
* any kernel will do you for a GingerBread ROM (Stock == Factory) but watch for ICS Repacks not just any works. may get Bootloops if wrong
Ok, the title doesn't explain what I want so, let's go:
First, if anyone could just teach me, I'll be very happy
So, on stock eclair Rom, is possible to have a Reboot button in the options menu (where has airplane, profile, shutdown.) I wanna to add a reboot button, like custom froyo and gingerbread roms. Is possible to do this? And if yes, have a way to put options in the reboot, like to reboot normally or in recovery or even bootloader?
For now on, thanks.
U can try stock base custom rom like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1866184
Officially corp via W8(11w32 unlocked bootloder)
i think it can done by using X8 toolbox, just a guess, i recommend to try use X8 toolbox
x8 toolbox can implement anything you want like fake dual touch also!
