OK, I may have done something silly or not and I am not sure if it is related to the latest S/W upgrade or not but today I noticed that I no longer get the options for 'None', 'Priorty' or 'All' on the sound slider (see attached)
It was definitely there after the first lollipop upgrade and it's definitely there on my Nexus 9 so is this part of Sony's modifications or have I done something stupid?
Thanks
This is what I am expecting to see (this is from my N9)
Sony unfortunately tried to replicate Kitkat behaviour, reintroducing the classic silent mode with the 5.1 update and screwed it up by introducing bugs. I hate it, much prefer the standard controls of 5.1.
In any case, you didn't do anything wrong. It really is like that.
If you press the bell-icon left, you'll get a menu with the priorty mode
BRO i literally ****ed my head finding it, but at least i got it!! Try lowering volume to almost MUTE and a menu will pop up allowing exeptions!

Hi everyone
Re-posting this from the general section (posted on there by mistake, was still half asleep lol, sorry)
Just got the xperia z yesterday (after my previous lg 4x was stolen... grrr... may the thief get permanent bursting hemorroids...) and I noticed a weird thing.
The mute/vibrate/sound toggle in the notification bar does not seem to work, and the same goes for the one in the popup shown by pressing the power button for a couple seconds.
Details: the mute or vibrate icon appears on the notification bar, but if I check the volumes in settings, they're still all on, and if I receive a call or get a notification or whatever, the phone actually rings despite the supposedly muted state.
All this doesn't happen if I "manually" turn the volume off with the volume buttons or via settings: in that case the vibrate icon appears and the phone actually does not ring.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
All good here dude. Hope you get it fixed. Have you tried turning phone off and on again? That usualy fixes small.glitches.

Yep, already tried that of course, as well as uninstalling the one widget I have that interacts with volumes, just to be sure it was not some weird conflict (and of course it wasn't)
Not a biggie actually, as I can turn it down manually or by said widget, but I hope I'll figure it out anyway if only for the sake of understanding the source of the issue
Yep I understand that. Annoys me when I cant get something working lile its ment to.

I have a problem with the toggle in the notification bar and the power off menu. System settings show me notifications and ringtones are off, but the phone still has audible, unmuted notification sounds. Really annoying.

Actually, I could try a factory reset just to be sure, but I admit I'm kind of too lazy to set my stuff up again from scratch only to try and fix that small glitch

Heard about it, but haven't read the whole thing yet (yep, still being lazy)
Jokes apart, I was planning to leave it 100% stock for at least a little while to see how the battery behaves without even the slightest piece of modding (got the phone only last friday, today has been the first real "field test" for the battery and so far I'm pretty positively impressed)
Well I have already removes/frozen a bucketload of apps happy bunny, I am. Now I only need to figure out which app does what so I don't kill something and make my phone less usable.

lol I removed a few apps too, but luckily for me they were uninstallable without root or anything.
I also disabled a few more through the stock apps management, for the time being it's sufficient for my taste
Same irritating automatic toggling action going on

Yes, having the same problem as well with mine. But it has been the same problem since I had ICS on my Xperia Arc S, then Xperia V and now this when I use the toggle in the notification bar or any other toggle aside from toggling it manually via setting. Very irritating since it has never and probably will never be fixed due to the fact that it's a cross-model issue. Chances are, those who say they don't have this problem already has it but don't know it yet or will get it eventually. Sony needs to iron this out once and for all
Is oficial, kitkat for xperia zr. Good sony!!!

Bluetooth is a load of s#!t, much worse than before.
I use it in my car, so I only switch it on when I'm driving.
The Bluetooth toggle option now takes longer to get to; a hassle when you just wanna get going.
So, I figure I'd make use of the Quick Throw widget on the lock screen. What a joke! You have to swipe down on the widget to first expand it, then tap on it, then input your screen lock unlock pattern (or equivalent). That then turns on WiFi and Bluetooth, and it searches for your saved paired devices. Seems to take longer to connect, too.
Last time I used it, though, I had to manually select my car for it to connect. When it finally did, I soon realised that for whatever reason my music was playing in order instead of shuffled (via the Walkman app), as I had it when I last played my music (after the update).
Also, whenever a notification came through (from Facebook), the music stopped completely. I had to press the play button on my car twice (as the first time registered as "pausing" the music, even though it had already stopped), and then when the song started playing once more, it was back at the beginning again!
Oh, and when I finish driving now (meaning my car is not running, along with its Bluetooth), the damn music continues to play, making me have to manually turn it off.
Argh. Kinda regretting updating, but it's early days and so I'm hopeful that I can find some workarounds.

And what about the re-mount reboot fix what would happen to it in the KitKat Update? This would do a bootloop for Link2Sd and folder mount users
And About rooting how will we root ? Will the CM Kernel work with the super SU zip?
There are many questions I can'T answer
I don't know if my comment is effective against this issue, but, just in case you guys don't have any idea about this
A Bit of A Problem, I Think
Why do we always get less features?
First, Sony decides to cut "Profiles" feature in 4.3. Then we discover "App-ops" is missing too.
And now no ART for 4.4. Add to that, the SD card restrictions!
Why Sony?
I received a replacement Moto X (Verizon) and installed the update to 5.0 - I REALLY do not like it. I tried doing a factory reset but it just wiped out apps and personal data; it's still bringing up Android 5.0.
Is there no way to do a full wipe and revert back to the previous version of Android?

Only if you unlock the bootloader and flash stock 4.4 again, but then you'll lose the warranty.
Lol yeah just go unlock the bootloader they said..it'll be easy they said.
Just out of curiosity what is it that you don't like about lollipop? My phone just came in and am wondering about whether to upgrade or not because it looks like a one way trip.
There's no true silent mode, for one. Google to away the long standard practice of pursuing down on the volume button to get to vibrate - then one more for silent. Note the list lowest you can go is vibrate. The priority notifications thing is overly complex and just unnecessary.
The keyboard doesn't have outlines or boxes around the keys, which is just bizarre. The whole thing looks like is was designed by Fisher Price. I'm just not a material design guy, I guess.

FYI you can fix the keyboard by going to Settings -> Language & Input -> Google Keyboard -> Appearance & Layouts -> Theme -> Pick one of the Holo themes

Might be an Android thing. On my old Verizon Droid Charge running gingerbread the lowest was also vibrate. I remember being able to do it before moving android. Old HTC touch pro 2 running windows mobile did true silent one click below vibrate and so did every dumb phone before that I owned.
Did performance improve or get worse?
Unfortunately no rolling back until they crack the boot loader for Verizon, or even customs installs.
I wish I could go back, sine updating to lollipop my phone is super slow especially massages app, and google services + android OS drain my battery like crazy. I think it's time to go back to iPhone I can't take this android bs anymore.
Ok so I'm on 6.0.1 and for the life of me I can't figure out this spastic notification behavior. When I'm using my phone, notifications come in just fine. However let's say I've left my phone on my desk and come back in an hour and pick up the phone... as soon as I turn the screen on, all the notifications start flying in from the past hour, including all the notification sounds 1 by 1 in quick succession. I've checked all the options I can to see if there is anything related to this behavior but I can't find it.
I've gotten used to iOS where my notifications are always on the screen waiting for me so I can pick up the phone and glance and put back down, without the hoopla of watching them fly in after turn the screen on and listening to all the annoying notification sounds jumbled together. I'm by no means new to Android however. I've owned many but my last was my N5 which got long in the tooth so I switched to a iPhone 6S as my daily driver and have been using my N5 just to play around and keep up with development of my favorite ROMS and apps. I saw the 6 on a really good deal so I decided to pick up it and see what it would be like to have Android as my daily driver again.
Anyhow, all that being said, how do I get the desired outcome of notifications actually coming in when the phone is idle and waiting for me without having to load after I turn the screen on? I'm guessing notifications in 6.0+ are tied to wakelock events but not sure. Any thoughts?

What you are seeing is androids new doze feature. It puts apps to sleep when the device has been on a flat surface for a long time unmoved. Go into settings/apps/What ever app you want and change the battery priority settings.

Ah OK. I totally forgot about doze... Want aware it was implemented in this manner. All the setting to change this would be in the app/notification section and Rick the "treat add priority" option? The description associates this option with so not disturb mode but it also affects doze too?

Ahh sorry had to find it again. It is under settings/battery then hit the 3dot menu for battery optimization. Then select the app. And change the settings. An easy work around is to plug it in when you will be leaving it for awhile. This disables doze.

settings - sounds ¬ifications - nofications ringtone --> none
The sound is 4 progressively higher notes on a xylophone-like wooden or bamboo instrument. Usually plays on unlock, but also randomly throughout the day and night. My default notification sound is silence, so this might be tied to an app or the OS (MM 6.1). I just don't know what it is - other than loud and inconvenient. Any Ideas? This is driving me crazy and waking my wife at night. Thanks.
its an app, 100000%. now your job is to find out which one.
Hi and thanks for the confirmation Simms22. :good: I know. Kinda obvious.
I have gone through settings and turned off most radios thinking it could be tied to an app through BT, GPS, NFC, etc.; a successful connection or location fix. I have also gone through the various apps and checked their notification sound settings too. No dice. Whats worse is that I have gone through all my ringtones and notification sounds and can't find it.
It seems to be tied to the Google Now cards notifications, but if it is, I can't find it. I don't really want to turn those off but I guess that's next. Grrrr.

id still be guessing, but google doesnt have a xylophone-like wooden or bamboo instrument sound on the nexus 6, so i know its not a default sound.
Thanks for the info. Hope I described the sound well enough. I'm mostly deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other. Misspent youth and all that.
I know the notifications and ringtones I've added. That leaves apps that have brought their own sounds with their install. So it's back to the haystack.
I think I'll let it percolate in the sub-conscience for a while. Besides, I'm way behind on a personal Tasker project. Thanks again. I'll update later with what I find out.

you can enable safe mode. that way you can check if its an app. long press the power button until you get the power off option. then long press on the power off until the safe mode option pops up. if that notification doesn't go off, then its an app. as on safe mode, all apps are disabled.
Flash another ROM. This happened to me on PureNex and when I switched to Chroma it went away.
Sometimes it actually happens once in a while. I'll hear the annoying "do dieu do doo" sound

I also have this problem. Has anybody found out the cause?
It started a few months ago and I ignored it, but now it is really annoying.
I put my phone into safe mode and it still happens. I assume this means it must be a preloaded app?
I installed a notification history app and nothing is listed when it happens!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
