As far as I know you have to be rooted, because it's replacing the bootanimation.zip in the root/system/media

Did you ever try and flash this with ADB? I ask because I manually applied the MRA58K OTA onto my AT&T Nexus 6 and it didn't change the boot animation, it's still the Lollipop boot animation..
I dont want to root or ubl to get this working but if it can be pushed through ADB or fastboot that'd be great.

You could manually install it from SD card, but you'd have to be stock. I think I'll give it a shot and give up Cataclysm for a few days to check out the new camera fixes.

You don't have to have stock recovery. I've got TWRP and it flashed just fine. Put the zip on your SD. Boot into TWRP/CWM, flash as you would any other zip.
BUT, you WILL lose root.
*edit* I should also add that other than TWRP and root, I was completely stock.
Cool! Did you lose user data?

Ubuntu releases generic packages and a device specific package to get radios and more hardware working.
We need someone to build that package for the Nexus 5. (I didn't understand if he has one or not, it seems he does, but I didn't find a download )
EDIT:
Sorry! I think I'm wrong.

Yes, at this moment ubuntu requires fastboot to be flasshed. Dont forget to flash the zip file mentioned in the link in the op.
5) Flash Ubuntu using http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-to...d/pending/trusty-preinstalled-touch-armhf.zip (adb push then flash via menu)
6) Reboot, and use phablet-network to setup the network
7) Enable my personal PPA (latest MIR): sudo apt-add-repository ppa:rsalveti/ppa
8) Install latest MIR packages: apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade
9) Enable MIR: touch /home/phablet/.display-mir

Hi Everyone, I just want to share this easy steps to root Android L.
Note: Android L is a Developer preview, it is not stable as the KitKat version and it is using ART runtime only, so not all apps are compatible.
Update: The v2.01 release fixes some incompatibility issues with the Android "L" Preview. There is no binary update over v2.00.

I recommend backup all your data/files in a PC, to avoid data loss. And don't blame me if you have a bootloop or stuck at boot logo.
TRY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Boot into bootloader
For TWRP format cache first
Code:
fastboot format cache
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Boot into recovery
Flash the SuperSU-v2.01.zip
Reboot
You now have root access.

I'm guessing this is the same as the other root method, where it roots your device, but some apps still don't work as root apps?
Titanium Backup is my main concern.

If you are gonna use OTA update, your system must be unmodified : not rooted, not changing any system file (including boot logo), and using stock recovery.

Pulled this from DP4. Not sure if this will be the official bootanimation they go with but for now that's all I got to go on. This is not a flashable zip. So you'll need to copy and paste with a root browser apk to the appropriate location.
For those of you who don't know its in::::
system/media
1.----just rename the one that's there by adding " .BBB" all that does is make it unrecognizable by the system so it doesn't use it but if something goes wrong or you just want to change back its there to rename back to the original name.
2.----copy and paste this zip file from wherever you downloaded it, to system/media
3.----change permissions to rw-r--r--
4.----click the thanks button here.
5.----click your buddies thanks button. No not his,,,,hers.
6.----reboot and stare in amazement. Or however you slow motion stare at something.
