Any progress on G800A locked bootloader? - Galaxy S5 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I'm sure everyone is tired of hearing about the G800A and the locked bootloader that AT&T has stuck us with.
I'm just curious is any forward movement is being made in creating a workaround to rooting/custom ROMs.
Coming from the Atrix 2 device that also has a locked bootloader, I'm all too familiar with this.
I would love to help out in anyway I can. Thanks for any info you can provide!

[Q] Unload Bootloader for 20A-ESA-XXX

Hi guys,
First i would lie to apologize to start this thread, as many have threads with a similar question were been asked. As I still cant find the correct answer, hence I am starting this thread.
I am currently of JB Stock ROM 4.1.2(20A-ESA-XXX) and i have just rooted my device few mins back without any kind of hassles using the the method given in this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2180688).
I am willing to install a custom rom, but without unlocking the bootloader it wont be possible. Request you guys to direct/show me the correct way to unlock my phones bootloader.
Thanks & Regards,
Bhavik

Does PAC man rom work with safestrap?

I would ask in the thread but I don't have enough posts to ask in there. I have the verizon version, by the way.

Not sure what you mean by that.
And no, PAC works on unlocked BLs only. Unless someone makes it SS compatible
Well ****. I can't unlock my bootloader, unfortunately. Do you think that motorola will allow all phones to unlock the bootloader later on?

Unfortunately, its not up to Motorola alone. BL unlock has to be granted by the carrier too. And I dont see VZ doing it anytime soon. Then again, with the Moto X, it doesnt matter all that much. You loose stuff like Active Notification and Touchless Control when you flash AOSP. So, not sure why anyone would want that. Some of the customization that ROMs offer can be had through XPosed Framework.
Someone please feel to correct me if I am wrong.
That would make sense as to why the bootloader hasn't been unlocked yet. I am not really familiar with how all of this stuff works. One of the main reasons why I root my phone is so I can mess with the kernels and achieve better battery life and performance, but I can see why people wouldn't want to switch to AOSP or AOKP because of that Active Notification. Thanks for the helpful information and the quick replies.

Xperia z1s (c6916) custom roms... Any yet?

First and foremost, let me start off by saying.. I already HAVE used the search function to find threads related to this topic, however, most of them are very outdated, and don't give a straight-up answer to the question. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Z1S bootloader has a method for unlocking as of now. My question however is this... Are there any Z1S ( Not Z1) Compatible custom roms? Do regular Z1 roms work on the Z1S? and if so, is there a special procedure in making them do so? I just want to know this because I'm most likely gonna unlock my bootloader. and I would like to install a custom rom on my Z1S if possible, but I cannot afford to be taking the risk of bricking my phone if there is virtually no chance of a custom rom working for it.....
So... Any clear answers that can be given would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
As far as I know...
The Z1s has never been unlocked. I have this phone and have had it since the beginning and it hasn't been unlocked. I'm pretty sure after many tries everyone finally gave up.

vzw g950u roms

I hate to sound so new build asking this question but with all the variants and threads kind of combining I'm a little confused. I'm not new to xda or rooting or installing ROMs to Samsung devices and have searched but am not getting quite the confirmation I'm looking for.
I see that anyone with the g950u can get root now and that's awesome but are ROMs device specific between all the different variants? I see there is atleast one room that's says g950u in the title of the thread can anyone clear this up for me please?

The U.S. devices (g950u) still have a locked bootloader - the first piece of software executed when you power on. Being locked means that it (the CPU) is looking for a specific key (the public signature) embedded in that code before it continues loading the code _ one that only Samsung/Verizon has authorized. To change that public signature yourself, you need the other half of the key (the private key) and that is akin to asking Samsung for all its source code to every device it makes -- never going to happen!
It will only continue the boot process if the signatures match for the next part (basically the ROM) of the code. A custom ROM won't match that signature, so the bootloader won't execute the ROM code. Having 'root' means you have control over everything software related in the ROM *after* it is booted into the ROM - meaning you're already past the whole signature part.
Unless someone finds a backdoor or security flaw that can be exploited on the bootloader (unlikely), or Samsung (or more likely Verizon) gives us a program to unlock the bootloader (even less of a chance), we won't be seeing any ROMs for the g950u. So, do like I did and shut off all the Samsung gunk (I use all of Google's apps because they behave the same way on every device I own - I can't stand Samsung apps or TouchWiz!) that you can, load Nova and set it up to behave the way YOU want it to work. Then just enjoy what you have!
Thank you for your answer I will root and try to make it more like Google
Great post rhricik! Best explanation I've heard in a while.
From what rhricik posted, it sounds like one can't root because the bootloader is locked in the Verizon version?
Are the bootloaders locked on the AT&T and T-Mobile versions?

SM-A705W Canadian - unlock, root, debloat

For those of us with the challenge/misfortune of being stuck on a non-OEM-unlockable Canadian A70, suffering with a stock build.
There are numerous references in different threads, but the A70 is (for now) a relatively complicated device, even moreso for those on the A705W variant.
This thread is to provide a home for resources, questions and solutions, and hopefully allow many Canadian users to break free.
With thanks to @BK, Samsung combination files for our device:

from a engineer i spoke with, we need a samsung dev account to authorize combination files to be flashed, fixing the error (Please get approval to flash factory binaries).

this isn't the latest combination firmware.
I traded my S10e (SM-G970W) for an A70 (SM-A705MN).
Partly due to the horrible battery life but mostly due to the locked bootloader Samsung has been blessing us with for years now. I really enjoy Samsung devices but without root i see no reason to use the product. I've got a couple years of upgrades and time to see if anything changes. I really hope this gets sorted for MOST of the devices sold in Canada and the U.S.A.
Has anyone made progress here ?
Not as far as I know.
Has anyone succeeded in unlocking a A705W yet?

it can't be , i have a way in theory but you need the patched Odin, check our telegram for more info.
Good news!
After discussing with BK, we're looking for volunteers with a A705W (Canada or USA model) willing to work with us to unlock their boooader and root. Please let us know in here.
I'm down
How did it turn out in the end?

I am willing to participate, I have Canadian version SM-A705W.
Thanks polaca57. @xda_bk should be able to help us out. He spends most of his time on the a70 telegram channel, but hopefully he'll chime in for us here.
