Modern TWRP Backup for CID: TELUS001 - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I have come across a friend's phone which is stuck in a bootloop since the battery died during an update. I am unable to run the Telus RUU (the only one I can find, from the collection thread, and it's very old). The RUU fails and I can not flash the zip from it manually using fastboot either. I can restore the TWRP backup from the collection but then the touch screen doesn't work (the backup must be much older).
So I am hoping someone on here has or can make me a TWRP backup of their latest stock HTC/Telus setup?
I am also going to see if I can get S-OFF and SuperCID so that I can try other RUUs. Thought that finding a backup would be a lot simpler/safer, though.

There is a 7.17.661.7 RUU for Telus here. To use this RUU, the phone firmware must be at least 6.xx.661.x and not newer than 7.17.661.7. Read instructions how to flash the RUU in the OP (you must use htc_fastboot to flash it, not the normal fastboot). Post the output of "fastboot getvar all" (remove imei and serialno) if you need more help.

Thanks! I don't have the phone near me at the moment to get the vars however I do know that fw is 5.xx.661.x range

I've added the getvar output. Since it's not my phone I am trying to avoid S-OFF using Sunshine. Didn't think it would be so difficult to find an RUU or TRWP backup

Try the 7.17.661.7 ruu, it might work since the phone is already on hboot 1.57. Otherwise you'll need s-off to either update your firmware and flash this ruu or downgrade your hboot and flash the 4.19.661.8 ruu.
I might be able to provide you a nandroid backup of 5.11.661.8 if I have some spare time. I will need to flash the the 4.19.661.8 ruu on my phone, update it to 5.11.661.8 so I can make a backup and upload it for you. But I won't have the time to do it this week...

Thanks I'll give it a shot. I was hesitant since I heard that jumping more than 1 firmware version could be bad.. but I'll see what happens and let you know.

This firmware thing does not apply to ruu, only apply to firmware update extracted from ota updates . In the worst case, the pre check will fail and nothing will be flashed on the phone

I finally had a chance to try this out and the 7.17.661.7 RUU fails to flash. Guess I'll have to S-OFF.

Well if you can s-off this phone it will be indeed possible to flash the ruu after updating the firmware.

[Q] Going back to stock for Lollipop update.

Hi, I've read a few threads about going back to stock, but I think the method is not exactly the same right? Like different firmwares etc. So do pardon me for starting this new thread ! I'm currently on ARHD 84.0 , ROM Version 6.09.401.12, S-ON. I'm using the international version if I'm not wrong. My phone's been starting to get frequent hiccups here and there lately, and I've been wanting to update to lollipop, so I've decided to return back to stock and wait for the official lollipop updates without having to S-OFF ( seems quite complicated for me ). May I know how exactly am I suppose to do that ? Thank You !

exactly the same as the other threads, just maybe differtent files.
follow "how to flash" the instructions at the top of this page, the file you need is at the bottom 7.19.401.2, 3rd one up, make sure you get the right one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/general/lollipop-ruu-zip-small-collection-t3053944

Thanks, so I just have to follow the instructions in the link you've posted and download the correct one right? I'm in Singapore so do I still use the one you've suggested or the Asia version?

yup, doesnt matter which country your in, you have a WWE european phone, 6.09.401.12 is your current firmware, the 401 part is the key, you next upgarde is 7.19.401.2 which is the file I linked you too.
Just a quick question, do I flash the RUU first or Relock my bootloader first ?

if youre s-on, you must relock first to be able to flash the ruu.
Maybe you should post the output of "fastboot getvar all" before proceeding to make sure everything is fine using this RUU.

Even the ruu he told you won't work. Your phone is PN0714000 CID is HTC__044 and your base is .707. You can't flash a .401 RUU on your phone unless you achieve s-off to change MID to PN0710000 and CID to HTC__001.
The only ruu you could possibly use (not tested) is the 6.13.707.7 here: http://www.ir-file.com/portal/index.php?dir=Firmware/HTC/HTC_Android/M7_UL/

the one you tried to flash is the wrong one and not the one I suggested.
The one I suggested you to flash is also the wrong one, you said in your original post you were on 6.09.401, your not, your on 6.13.707.1, lucky for you it failed, there is no RUU available on that page for you at the moment.
Use the RUU that alray above has posted and dont flash anything again until you get the Lollipop update would be my best recommendation.

Sorry, can I unlock my bootloader again by flashing the unlock token ?

Can't find any ROM stock to make SunShine works [HBOOT=1.61][CID=VODAP203]

Hello everybody,
Usually I used to find solutions through forums on Internet but riht now I'm completely stuck. I have spent few days to find how to come back with an official HTC ROM for my HTC One m7, but for several reasons it does not work and I can't find how to deal with.
Here some intel to help your analysis :
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.61.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 4T.35.3218.16

HBOOT version = 1.61
SunShine does not work because it asks a ROM closer to a stock one.
Can you please help me to find a way to get that Official ROM ? I guess I need to S-OFF before and to downgrade HBOOT and change my CID, but I don't find the solution with my situation.
Many thanks !!
Have a good day.
I found a cwm nandroid backup but it's CID VODAP102:
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/m7-cwm-nandroid-backup-cid-vodap102-1-29-161-7-7z/
it should work, but you'll probably have to apply ota updates before running sunshine. Oh, and you need to flash clockwork mod recovery.
let's see what @alray has to say about it. He's our heavy artillery here Wait for his response before you use that nandroid.
Hi monrokhoury,
Many thanks for your answer !
I already have cwm, while unlocking my hboot.
I should install it like a common .zip folder from cwm then Gapps .zip ? Then the same for OTA ?
I'll wait for the strike in response from the artillery then
Thank you !
Have a good day
You're welcome.. And Nope, you can't flash a nandroid backup like you would a regular zip. It could harm your device.
You need to unpack the contents into cwm default backup directory. try making a backup them look for it and you should find yourself in the default backup folder. delete the backup you just made and then unpack the nandroid backup in the above link into that folder. Boot into recovery, select backup and restore then restore, navigate to the nandroid backup you just copied and confirm the restore.
---------- Post added at 02:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:44 PM ----------
Oh, and before you do anything backup all your valuable data and files, they will be wiped during the restoration process.
---------- Post added at 02:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:50 PM ----------
One last PS: You don't need to (and shouldn't) flash any gapps.. They're included in the backup.

Vodap102 is a x.xx.161.x base. Vodap203 is x.xx.163.x. So this cwm backup is not for this phone. OP's phone is hboot 1.61 so his firmware is 7.xx.163.x, your cwm backup is way to old, if he flash this, his touch screen won't even work.
Flash the 7.xx.163.2 ruu from the ruu thread in the general section, you'll possible have to follow the guide at the end of post #2 of that same thread if you were on a newer version than 163.2. S-off not required.

Whoaoh , thanks alray,
Looks like what I was looking for, an entire thread dealing with my situation all along.. Moreover, you put explanations, for once I will do things knowing what I do and why. Good job, thanks for newbies like me :fingers-crossed:.
I've read a bit, I will try it comfy at home but it sounds good. Have I to be careful with the type of the version-main I choose ? The 7.xx163.xx has no url though I will need to do as you explain at the bottom of your post with another version.
I'll keep you posted soon.
Have a good evening.
I think this is the ruu alray means:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934554131
You know how to flash a ruu zip?
reboot fastboot, connect your m7 to your pc, fastboot oem rebootRUU, fastboot flash zip ruu.zip, fastboot flash zip ruu.zip, and finally fastboot reboot
Hello,
I did exactly what was indicated in the thread, both for version-main and RUU flashing, but I still have the same ROM with Android 6 and it seems that nothing has changed.. is it normal ? should it not be back to lollipop ?
But the version-main changed successfully !
What would I have done wrong ?
Thanks to both of you for your help !
Have a nice day !

Hello alray,
Actually I did not take the good RUU, sorry for that. Then I have flashed the good RUU given by monrokhoury. But right now, my phone is stuck with the HTC logo and the green loading bar almost at the end.

Then what should I do with that stuck situation ?
Thanks !
Ah ! I did it dude.
I just reboot bootloader and re-unlocked the hboot.
The system had a first weird error / failed boot, but the second try was successfull.
I'm now with this new ROM which works fine apparently. I needed it to recover my online htc recovery. Now next step, s-off to change the CID (I guess you made a post about it, I'll try to find it) and flash another ROM with last android version. Any advice ?
Many thanks for your help !
Have a good evening.

How to restore to Stock Sense (6) with S-ON?

I have used the Guru reset from HTC 1 Guru to reset my HTC One M7 on Three (Hutchinson 3G) UK with version 7.19.771.1.
Like some others I have had the problem of a boot loop when getting the Android 4.3 OTA after 2 minor updates which worked fine.
I have learned that this happened because my firmware is higher than the firmware of the OTA.
I was able to get out of the boot loop fine by flashing TWRP recovery and restoring to my TWRP backup of CyanogenMod, but I still want to go back to stock Sense.
I can't S-OFF as Sunshine is the only tool for HBOOT 1.61 and that won't work on CyanogenMod as it says that I need to be using stock. Also, I don't have the money to pay for it anyway.
So I'm wondering if anyone knows how I can get to stock Sense with all updates applied.
I was wondering if I could do a Guru reset again without performing updates, and then use a RUU of a more recent version to get to updated stock. I thought this may work because the version of the RUU would be higher than that of the current software.
Or would I get something from the HTC Dev Center downloads? Etc
Or is there another way?
Thanks for reading!

You flash it via fastboot in RUU mode. First command you need is "fasboot oem rebootRUU" That will boot your phone in bootloader mode ( black screen with silver HTC logo ). Then "fastboot flash zip (name of the zip).zip. You might want to rename that zip to something simple like "firmware" to avoid mistakes when writing in fastboot. And one mote note - you need htc fasboot to flash this, not the regular fastboot

I had already done that. So there is the normal fastboot.exe that was already in there, and the htcfastboot.exe.

Hi,
I have exactly the same issue, needing the same RUU. But the one linked to on android forums is corrupt. fastboot says it can't find the image title and if I open it in in WinRAR it fails the integrity test. I downloaded it three times and FC'd them. They are identicle but all corrupt. Is there another version out there or can you share one you've used? Thanks.

Don't try to extract a RUU zip, it will get corrupted because it's encrypted. Just download the zip, put it in your fastboot folder, and flash via fastboot with your phone in RUU mode

Your version-main is 7.19.771.21 so you need a RUU same or newer than that number. 7.19.771.1 will not work (its older). Unless you want to edit your version-main number from the /misc partition, the simplest is to flash the 7.19.771.21 RUU.
You can download it from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347763965
There are some problems today on androidfilehost.com so if you have some issues downloading the file, try later :good:
I get the same failed message with that ruu - I've put cyangenmod back on for now, so I have a working phone. But I will return to this an get it working
Really appreciate your help with this - Thanks

No OS, Relocked Bootloader, Tempered, S-ON.

Hi
In past few days, i wanted to root my HTC One m7. I did it with some of the tutorials from YT or your site. I did some mess i think. Now when i try to turn on my device, i only get HTC logo and that's it. I can get into recovery mode , where i get this :
,,TEMPERED
RELOCKED
Security Warning
S-on
Hboot 1.61
OS 7.19.401.51."
What can i do to make my device working again? Please help me. I tryied to fix this in couple ways, for example , downloaded RUU from htc site. Little diffrent version ,,7.17..." and open the exe file. But when i trying to open it, nothing works.
Other way was that i try command ,,fastboot flash .... zip" but i get message ,,load_file: could not allocate 1606550528 bytes error: cannot load 'ruu.zip': Not enough space. "

flash the 7.19.401.51 RUU. You'll find the file in the general section (see the ruu collection thread in the sticky threads).
RUU at post #2 of that thread, instructions how to flash at post #1 (don't forget to use the fastboot version specified in that post).
NEED PC
This is the link to the RUU. Install the file on PC (it is a big file) and connect your phone and run it.
Should return you to Lollipop 5.0.2 with Sense 6.
Download the right one for your variant:

Sorry but none of the above files will work on OP's phone. His phone is running 7.19.401.51 which is the latest version for the x.xx.401.x base (WWE Europe). His phone is S-ON so he can only flash a RUU that is the exact same (or newer) version than what is already installed on the phone. So 7.19.401.51 is the only one he can use since its the latest one...
However, thanks for links, they might be helpful for someone else :good:
Maybe wrong thread, but no one has a week to go through everything to find my topic. Sorry but this is what came up for my search.
m7, s-on but accepting and working with other carrier sims (installed diff carrier sim but no prompt for code).
Will I be able to root with s-on?
M9 battery crapped out (along with usb data comm and functionality), so going back to the 3 year older m7.
Is this the same company that came up with the Desire HD?!? geeeees! And they wonder why ppl buy chinese!

You need an unlcoked bootloader in order to root your rom. S-ON is fine (unless you have the verizon m7 variant).

Since your phone is S-ON and running 7.19.401.51, you can only use the 7.19.401.51 RUU not the 7.19.401.2 (this one is a downgrade).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/general/lollipop-ruu-zip-small-collection-t3053944
And you must use htc_fastboot.exe to flash the RUU, not fastboot.exe
Thanks, but...

Sorry, forgot to mention that since your bootlooder is S-ON you must relock it (only s-off bootloader can flash a RUU when unlocked)
So do
Code:
htc_fastboot oem lock
before doing
Code:
htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU
htc_fastboot flash zip filename.zip
the archive isn't broken, this is an encrypted file and it can't be unzipped.

You can re-unlock the BL after the RUU if you want to reflash twrp.
Super, it is ok. Now is phone boot to android.
And now, when I want install any else firmware, because there is only 5 languages, I must do S-OFF, change CID and upload via fastboot firmware for CID? Or can I change CID without S-ON?

Changing CID requires S-OFF but there is a trick to add languages without flashing another RUU. This will requires at least TWRP installed on your phone and that you perform a factory reset after the trick is done.
What language/country do you need?
TWRP is installed. I need czech language. Maybe phone has simlock, because when I put another sim, so I cant connect to gsm because signal isnt.
edit: I did factory reset via TWRP, but nothing.

boot in twrp, copy /system/customize/cid/default.xml to your computer. open default.xml with notepad++ and add cs_CZ in the "total_list" string. Create a new string with this value: <item type="boolean" name="cs_CZ">yes</item>
save the file and push back to /system/customize/cid/default.xml using twrp.
factory reset the phone and check if the czech language is available.
If your phone was sim-locked you should be prompted to enter the sim unlock code when the OS boot.
I copied default.xml, opened it and check it. Default.xml is in attachment. Strings what you wrote me are in file. So I dont understand it.

Ok I read on another thread that you can change the default.xml file name to match your cid and it should enables all languages listed in default.xml
1- pull /system/customize/cid/default.xml on your pc
2- rename default.xml to HTC__E11.xml
3- Using twrp push HTC__E11.xml to /system/customize/cid/HTC__E11.xml this will overwrite the already existing HTC__E11.xml file that only contains a few language option.
4- reset phone
Dont forget that it must be done from twrp unless you have a custom kernel with "/system write protection" disabled. If not all change made to any file in /system will be reverted back to stock after reboot.
Thank you. Now is all ok.

Can anyone help me how to fix my phone?

M7 soft brick recovery

Hello,
My phone recently soft bricked itself while I was attempting to check a message. The system locked up, then went into a reboot where it hung on the HTC logo. The usual steps of trying a factory reset did not seem to fix the logo hang. The phone was never modified, it was running only stock firmware with S-ON and the boot loader locked. As this is my first attempt at recovering from a soft brick, the learning curve has been steep. At this point I am somewhat stuck as I don't understand why I cannot flash the stock RUU that i have. What I have done:
-unlocked boot loader (1.61.000)
-flashed to TWRP for recovery (3.0.2.0)
-Attempted to use ADB sideload to push RUU files. This failed because ADB only sees the device every few attempts and then sideload commands fail saying "error: closed"
-Attempted to flash RUU as per this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/general/lollipop-ruu-zip-small-collection-t3053944
*The RUU that I am trying to flash is the 7.19.401.51 signed version
Here is a getvar readout from my phone:
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.61.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 4T.35.3218.16
(bootloader) version-cpld: None

(bootloader) boot-mode: RUU
(bootloader) commitno-bootloader: dirty-0e2a13e5
(bootloader) hbootpreupdate: 11

all: Done!
I am really confused as to how it soft bricked itself in the first place during normal use and if I am doing something incorrect in flashing it.

I dont see a reason why it fails but i dont know much about using ruu files. But if you have unlocked your phone and twrp is working you should be able to just restore a Stock twrp backup. You can find them here in the m7 forum, download the one that is matching your device, restart your device into twrp connect it to your computer and copy the twrp backup from your computer into your twrp backup folder on the phone, go in twrp to restore and you should see the backup, select it and slide to start.
All fixed
So I actually managed to fix it last night using the RUU file. I didn't realize that I had to re-lock my boot loader for a signed RUU file to work properly. Once I ran the "fastboot oem lock" command, the file installed normally by running "fastboot oem bootRUU" and then flashing it with "fastboot flash RUU.zip"
I wasn't able to even move files with twrp loaded, my device showed up as an MTP device on my computer, but any file movements gave an error that the device stopped responding.
