Best way to keep Moto apps but have a nice custom ROM - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I really do enjoy having the Moto app around, specially for voice commands, since I have a ton of tasker stuff on my phone.
I wish I could find a good way to keep the Moto app and still be able to use custom ROMs.
Is that possible?
If so, how?
Do you do that?
If so, how did you do it?
Every input is apreciated.
Thank you.

I haven't used it for a while, but you should try installing XPosed Framework.

The specialized Moto functions like Voice, their active display, etc need other parts of the stock ROM and kernel and will not work with a custom ROM like CM, etc. Like the other poster said, try installing Xposed and that will add most of the customization options of the custom ROM to your stock Moto ROM.

[Q] CM11 vs KitKat stock

What does CM11 add?
I have a Verizon DE Moto X, unlocked and rooted....so I can use titanium X to backup files. I used a custom ROM on my nexus for smoothness and battery life, but so far I think the Moto X on stock ROM is pretty darn good as it is. I'm going to flash the boot images to get rid of that annoying message from motorola but not sure what's in CM11 that would make me want to switch from stock.
What are the advantages of moving to CM11 on the moto x?
The better question is "What does CM11 remove?"
More knowledgeable people can come in to elaborate
Cm let's you change the tiles in the pulldown menu. Has some security features built in, faster updates (already on 4.2.2).
Yes CM has customization, but none of the features that made me want to get a Moto X in the first place (hands free control, active notifications, etc.) You can actually get most of the features of custom ROMs by installing xposed and gravitybox (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316070), and then you'll still have Motorola's features as well. Here's a great thread for info about a ROM-like experience: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2556400

[Q] Most Pure Rom?

Excuse my ignorance, I'm trying to learn more about this device and scene.
What is the most "Vanilla" rom available for this device? I don't need or want any extra functionally and want as pure as android kitkat can get on the device.
Thanks.
Can't argue that ignorance is present.
Didn't care about this advice http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25164221 last time same question http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29632006 came to mind?
Btw, thread got locked by moderator usually has a reason...
Anyway, to inspire away from your self acclaimed ignorance not even bother to tell what model of Active, let me put it this way:
If
'this device' = i537 AT&T
Then
Locked bootloader
Goto Safestrap in xda General forum section
'this device' = i9295 international
Then
Unlocked bootloader
AOSP 4.4.4

I don't know about the international version, so if that's what you have ignore this post. If you're on the i537, there's no AOSP or CM based ROMS, and the ROMS out there seem to be more trouble than they're worth. Not trying to badmouth, it's just there's always hacks necessary to even make them work properly in the first place, and no noticeable improvement. Instead, I'd recommend the advice I just gave someone else (tldr: replace launcher with Nova, freeze/uninstall bloat w/ TiBu, flash galaxy_mod, flash knoxout, and then start learning smali editing):
Get SafeStrap
Flash this mod to drastically improve battery life and general performance
Get rid of KNOX
De-Odex your stock ROM (it's easy and allows a lot more customization)
And enter the exciting world of SMALI editing. This takes a little practice, and still doesn't afford the full freedom of CM, but you can customize the look and feel of your phone, still feel like a champ, and just learn about android in general. I've used a bunch of these successfully, with virtually no prior coding experience. E.g. I hated those battery/charger cover notifications, thanks to this thread, they're gone and not coming back.
Also, get rid of the stock launcher and replace it with NOVA launcher. More customization, smoother, better performance, looks more like CM. You can (and should) use Titanium Backup to either freeze or uninstall bloatware (at the very least any app with AT&T in the name).
AdAway is your friend.

[Q] keep stock moto camera?

Whats up guys. Thanks firstly for all I've learned by reading here. I cant find anything on this though. Can I keep the stock camera on my 2013 moto x with a custom ROM? I love its camera and have little for cm camera or whatever all the Roms use. I'm sure there's something here I just missed. Anyone point me that way?
Eclipse ROM is stock based and stock everything works just fine.

How far can i go on my phone?

I have a non dev Moto X from Verizon (XT1060, first gen). It is currently running 4.4.4. What is the most I can do with it? Reading several threads, I am unable to find a conclusive answer regarding this. Looks like sunshine doesn't work nor do most one click tools. My goal is to flash a debloated ROM at the very least if possible.
You won't be able to flash any custom rom without an unlocked bootloader and that's that really. At most you could root(when possible) and manually uninstall bloatwares from the stock rom. I'm glad I had troubles upgrading my phone initially and was able to read about sunshine app on time.
Sent from my XT1060
to the moon and back at least, of course try krypton, or maybe even the modded 5.1 for the 1060, I prefer krypton but the modded 5.1 came a long way quickly I just wasn't feeling the change from simplicity (less options but works perfect for me) of Moto Assist, to the more complex options in LP :/ Check out the respect threads for each rom!
Safestrap only works for 4.4.2 no?

Debloat XT1060 DE

Hi everyone
I had a Verizon XT1060 DE that was rooted and unlocked on KitKat. The flashlight/camera flash came loose and it had to be RMA'd over a year ago. Not long after, I got a sweet deal on a LG G4 and the new Moto X (still bootloader locked) sat in a drawer. The LG G4 softbricked during a Verizon OTA update last week and they've sent me a new one (now in the same drawer), and in the meantime I picked up the 2013 Moto X.
This morning I unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp 2.8.6.0-ghost, and rooted with SuperSU. I'm excited to have the Moto X back as my main phone (I missed it, for sure) and I'd love to debloat all the verizon crap.
Can anyone recommend to me a good method for debloating? I'm sure I did it on my old Kitkat Moto X, but it's been years and I can't remember and surely there's some good updated info.
If this has been discussed previously, please just post a link if need be.
Thanks again everyone. Glad to be back using XDA again
Also, if anyone wants to chime in with a recommended ROM that will accomplish the same for me. I've never installed a custom ROM but I wouldn't mind trying.
I like AOSP, but I'd try a CM rom or anything really. My requirement is a debloat ROM that everything works. I need this phone for everyday use, so I need to make calls, take photos, use the flashlight, etc. If there's bugs that have a known fix, that works for me, but I can't run a ROM with decreased functionality.
Please post a link if you have a suggestion.
Thanks again everyone.
I've been using Resurrection Remix for a few weeks now and it works great as my daily driver (I have a XT1060 DE as well). The ROM is fast and everything works, as far as I can tell. Look at the Moto X XDA homepage for the page and details, or try this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/rom-ghost-resurrection-remix-5-6-8-t3371948
Good luck!

I've only tested Resurrection Remix becuase its the rom with lot of feature from other rom too and its stable for everyday use and I write from my Moto X (XT1052).
For everyday use I suggest to avoid (as now) all 7.x roms because usually have broken microphone and/or camera (only video or photo too) with can be important for many people, so i advice you to stay with 6.0.1 roms right now
