Bye to Samsung familly - Galaxy S 5 General

Before I broke three HTC Android phones. and I left forever HTC Android phones, now I broke Samsung S5 and no more Samsung Android phones.
Reason is crappy battery
Poor android design.
Poor rooting capability.
Phone didn't last 1 year.
Every time google is bul****ting that with new version we improved performance, battery life. I was with android family since 1.6 and in that period I didn't performance improvement. Always forcing you to buy now and more powerful phone. If update to new version of android so your phone is getting ****ed. So where is performance?
My next phone will Windows 10.

If you broke that many phones, I'd say the problem is not the phones

windows phones are great but they are not made from steel so dont think they will last from a fall like you said :silly:

Is not about steel, its about stability, battery life and multitasking. . I want smart phone, not just phone to make calls. Did you notice that with every big update it takes more and more space, also it eat more memory and CPU. I expected that it will be more polishing and looking a way to improve battery life. We don't need to wait until it comes better battery technology.
Another interesting thing. Why smartwatches last longer than android phone? Why they can't make same on android phones? Watch is 6 times smaller than phone . I think that google are going to wrong way something that I didn't expect. I though that google developers don't follow apple strategy to make OS which consume more and more battery and power to force people to buy new phone because of OS and Security flaw. I buy with two reason every two years: With contain better hardware and improved OS. But always you get improved hardware. So when they will start to think how to improve OS? How many years we need to wait until they will go to right way?

Thanks for permitting to say my opinion, Robotukas
Sagem & htc are my first models not tactiles one's
I discover Samsung by galaxy s1 nowadays
I ve sg s5
I m not samsung avocado's , far from this
flyover all main models s2 s3 s4 s5 ...etc
Seduced by card memory external , easy flashing ,
big choice developpements : roms kernels
Recovery & others things
My idea : Windows 10 is very good for pcs
for phones it's debatable btw !
Regards, bro !

I don't understand people talking about broken phones as the subject is Android.
And i have to say, I also start to feel like a fool every time we see new Android updates supposedly improving performance, battery and ram usage.
The reality is that battery does not improve, everything takes more space and ram. All the times Google told us battery improved, we should have phones that last 10 days already...
All the security issues for which there is no quick patch available for everybody highlight another big(ger) flaw of Android.
I also think that Google should take a step back and improve all these points and stop being a accomplice of this "programmed obsolescence" used by all manufacturers to push people to switch to new phones from lack of support after not even 2 years.
We are using phones more and more as computers and payment methods, we do everything with them. Security deserves a more important focus that it currently does, especially for such expensive phones.
Hopefully Windows 10 will improve this, bring some better competition and push Google and manufacturers to take this more seriously...

Samsung is cheap Korean junk. I should have stuck with Sony, more so considering they still provide FM module and are better build quality plus easier to root without knox-type crap. Enterprise won't use rubbish android, only ios.

I agree with your battery point but I think breaking phones is ur fault! Samsung is one of the easiest brand that has phones really easy to root, to find roms and to be kept update through years

If Samsung doesn't follow HTC by shipping phones with dozens pre-installed apps so battery life it would 20% better. I don't use crappy apps what Samsung is offering. I paid £600 for peace of technology but not for crappy apps. So better I will buy phone which is close to stock and allow me to install what exactly need to me and for my work.

if you want a phone that looks stock get a nexus. you knew samsung bundle apps yet you still bought it. you lose the right to ***** by lack of research

When you buy laptop with pre-installed app, you can always remove. I bought Samsung because I thought that I can remove. This is not a right company policy if they want to make more sales.

not buying samsung ever again

i did not want to open a new thread so here are some excitment news that i have written in the third page of this thread:
"well i gues it will be easy for me not to buy a samsung phone ever again.
motorola and intel sign on a long term agreement and medfield really kicking ARM a** at least in the few benchmarks that were published and with lower consumption according to the benchmarks.
so my next phone will be a motorola phone with intel inside it.
goodbye samsung and yours sh*tty support.
i hope many of you will do the same as me. show them the power of the customers. i hope samsung will lose all their customers to motorola!!!!!!!!!!!"
original post:
not only they don't release the drivers to help developers like onecosmic and cyanogen, they stop their support on a phone who sold millions of units world wide.
i have this phone only for a year, and 2.3 is the last version i'll get.
but maybe we need to blame google because other company also dropping their support after a year.
maybe it is time to consider microsoft and intel combination. if they are doing such a great work on pc, and intel is about to release their cpu for mobiles, that combination will kick android a** i hope. i can't believe that this is the last update i will get, i have 2.3 for months, i dont care about crappy face recognitaion in 2.3.6 i want hardware acceleration.
i am staring to hate android. open source is great, until you are not getting anymore updates maybe the middle between android open source and ios is the answer like microsoft.
microsoft bring us directx games to cell phones and i am leaving crappy android today.

fact is, Samsung is a company that is only interesed in your money, just like all other companies out there. They're not a charity organisation. They want you to buy their phones.
the SGS has gotten 2 major firmware updates. eclair to froyo and froyo to gingerbread. There's not alot of phones out there that have gotten the same luck.
Of course it would be nice to receive an ICS updates but frankly i don't care. There's already a good working unofficial ICS rom and official Gingerbread rom does it's job more than pleasant.
I would say it's your loss since samsung always make better phone with better price compare to apple made in china trash. I know the software is not too good buy you have plenty developers here that can help the phone runs better. If you want ics just used one cosmics rom.

Do tell me where I get support for my original iPhone (2g) so I can up date the thing to v4 or even v5 iOS.
At the end of the day the SGS is near 2 years old and seeing as the SGS3 is around the corner I would consider the SGS old!
Anycase there is a ICS ROM for the SGS, just used that and be happy!
onecosmic and cyanogen can not fix the camera and other minor things without the drivers from samsung and i have 2.3 almost 6 months. so no i dont consider one year of updates to be that good. you want your phone, to be updated for a year and then throwit to the garbage?.
one year of updates for a phone who sold millions world wide is not enough and because of people like you it will coninue.
i tried 20 different roms so dont try to sell me that i can try onecosmic rom. the camera and other minor things not working correctly i am on cyanogen mod and i am ont happy with the camera and the battery life, tv out is not working and other minor bugs.
edit: not that i have any bad things to say about onecosmic and cm7 developers i know it is not their fault, they dont have the drivers. so thanks to all the developers out there for their best efforts.
im on 2.3.6... why dont you flash? its smooth as ever. Im happy for what it is. Do yourself a favour and get the value pack rom

It's funny how people count the Eclair to Froyo update as a point for Samsung when the phone was released after Froyo came out, Samsung was just damn late.
I got no problems with samsung. after i found this site i've loved the phone Must thank all the hard working people who just got the intrest to release all kinds of mods etc. they make the phone worth having

To be honest i'd be happy with a good Gingerbread (stock), I don't think it's been as good as the last Froyo 2.2.1 update, which suddenly made the phone work properly.
I think its a shame that there isn't at least a two year life span (a lot of phone contracts are 24 months) in terms of updates, but I also understand this technology is probably one of the fastest moving.

Samsung didn't design ALL components in the SGS, they have bought many from THIRD party (like audio part from Wolfson, etc. etc.). You have open source drivers for SOME devices and many of chip-makers sell Chips + Closed drivers with limited support. It's not the Samsung's fault if they don't want release drivers, Samsung use only BINARY drivers for some devices ! Blame some *****ng chip-maker firms. I used to fight a lot with Adaptec to have some source code to make working some $500 Hardware Raid card for FreeBSD some years ago, many chip-maker are VERY reluctant to give drivers code, and it's not a new story in Linux world.
Windows and Intel will make better ? Are you serious or just blind ? Why Vista was so "unstable" in his debut ? Drivers, Drivers and Drivers.. like Android. iOS ? Another joke ? Apple use ONE hardware and chip-makers are forced to give the code (or they're excluded from Apple, so they give all Apple want), iPhone is a very well sell and Apple is one of the richest firm in the world, chip-makers aren't totally stupid if they want to sell million and million of their chips.
And for your information : First ROM for SGS are build in March 2010, latest is Dec 2011, what a poor support..
I can see Samsung absolutely ****ting themselves reading the op. Dumb thread.

This is, IMHO, the main Android drawback.
Android is not really "open". It's a marketing hype.
Producers like Samsung make heavy "modifications" to their phones and do not relase their drivers.
We're lucky that SGS has an hardware similar to the Nexus S, otherwise I doubt we could have a stable ICS porting for our phone.
My next phone, if I'll chose again Android, will be a Google Experience One.
Bye.

Game over tab 8.9?

Samsung will likely release a next gen tab in Barcelona. Will this mean minimal support for our tab?
I was a big defender of android for 2 years. But i have had it. Will switch over to iphone 5 and ipad 3. Our tab rom from Samsung is suboptimal to say the least. Still no ICS. App quality still sucks for business, science, musicians etc. Improvement too slow. I thought differently 6 months ago but now it seems we can not catch up to Apple ecosystem.
I am just trying to make a rational decision, no ideological arguments.

well but that ain't really androids or samsungs fault. if someone designs a crappy app for android and a well working app for ios then of course it will look better on ios....
as for support. the older iphones aren't getting any updates and ipad1 is missing out on a lot of features that the ipad2 got via software. so it aint like android is all bad and ios is all good.
that being said, yeah samsung is being slow releasing stuff and touchwizz is bloated crap. they should try and please people releasing updates as fast as possible instead of bloating them and making them slower.
I've only owned my sgt 8.9 for a month and I think th nhardware is fantastic and going from iphone 3-4s and my wifes ipad 2 to this android and samsung show they can pull it off better than apple in most ways.... But.....
Time between releases isn't practical, the features of true clean android os (no samsung excess besides ebook) are fantastic but samsung kill it with touchwiz and excess compulsary samsung apps, and the market is great but also it's own worst enemy. (but we cant do anything about that because its un-regulated so to speak). Been muking around with custom roms and my hats off to the develooers as they're are really trying to polish up and bring us the best experience possible but they're relying on samsung to continue support but sadly they just are developing enough for our developers to improve on.
It's sad when a combination of 2 great products with both ability, style and funding can't bring it together and focus on fewer models or realeases to perfect something thats already almost there and really flex there muscles in the face of the competition.

agree, but that is why we need to consider the whole ecosystem that generates design standards, a sense of esthetics and professionalism and coolness...
samsung seems to push new bricks with better technology at a frantic speed but this does not improve usability. they are bad at engaging users and are terrible on the softwareside. It also seems that the ios ecosystem has the more demanding users that care less about tech and custom roms but overall usability.
I have my tab now for 5 months, there has not been a release of any appropriate rom by samsung for a 600$ Tablet! not acceptable...and my sgs i9000 is also not supported anymore by samsung...
I have an 8.9 and I feel your pain as well. I want Android to work out but it seems the manufacturers are only interested in the initial sale of the item, after that support dwindles quickly. Compare this to Apple who understands that your building a relationship with your customer. I think it sucks that the Kindle Fire has better support then the Galaxy Tab and most honeycomb devices.
App support with Android is poor at best. When compatibility has to be reviewed for each device by the developer (Hello hulu, netflix, & Gameloft!), you have a poor ecosystem. A number of really good games avail on the iPad do not even have Android the radar.
Still, I hang in there, because I don't like Apples restrictive system. Hoping manufacturers & developers will get on board and fix things. If it doesn't change in the next year though, I'm out and going back to iPad, because at the end of the day I want to use my device not hack it.
I can understand the frustration fully. I have an LG Optimus S, and my wife just upgraded off her Samsung Moment. Sometimes, vendor support for the latest version of android is minimal at best. In contrast, Apple EOLs their hardware, and there is no coming back from that. Every hardware update/major version release sees the previous oldest supported platform unsupported. Additionally, even the previous version sees missing features on the software side (ref iphone 4 + siri) that hafe been proven to run on the older platform.
Atleast with android, you can rely on strong dev communities to build new versions of the software in a timely manner. All weekend I ran the ICS alpha/beta and it is very nice!
I like my tab mainly for the size and form, and for 360 dollars it was a deal. It doesn't work any better them my Acer A500, which is more use full in the long run. Anyways my first android was the Samsung Moment which was terrible, htc hero, evo, nexus s, Acer A100, Acer A500, nook color, I pad 2, and now this 8.9. So I have had a lot of experience and I can surely say this is my last android mobile device. I'm tired of being a lab rat for these half baked devices all has had major problems. I don't want to have to rely on developers to fix things. I have only kept the I pad for a month and couldn't live without Google's services, but now I'm over it. Until they get more control over these manufactures to provide updates in a timely manor and manufactures fix their hardware I don't see a reason to stay. I guess the flexibility of android comes at a price and we all get burned.
Sent from my GT-P7310 using Tapatalk
This is a really interesting thread, because it portrays what I think would be a very different opinion versus if you asked the same question other in the dev board. And the different demographics involves paralleled a conversation I had the other day at work.
I am a complete Android head - half the appeal for me is tinkering with the thing. I see that as normal - no, actually I see that as a big part of the experience. I hate the iPad because it is so rigidly locked down in every respect. I had an iPad, but found it stifling and could get on with it even jailbroken.
I was shocked, however, when a girl at work gave a ten minute scathing diatribe on Android based on her experience with a low end Samsung phone. "But that was a low end Android phone!" I said. "It was bound to be slow and clunky. That's not a fair assessment of Android to base it on that experience. Plus, even if it was underpowered hardware, you probably could still have found a ROM for it out there that'd solve most of the problems you were having".
She didn't care. She just wanted the thing to work out of the box and her eyes glazed over when I started talking about ROMs.
It was a new perspective for me and I find myself recommending devices differently now. Time was I would have recommended the GT 8.9 unequivocally. The form factor plus hardware (in my opinion) beats anything else currently on the market. And I'd put my ICS equipped 8.9 up against any iPad in terms of user experience and I'd say it comes out on top. However, if you want a tablet that you get out of the box and use, it's not this one. The stock Samsung Android install is an abortion and unless you are happy to tweak (or have a family member who'll do it for you) it's not the device for you.
And therein lies the problem with 99% of Android devices on the market. Until vendors get over this need to differentiate their devices by adding layer after layer of bloat on top of Android, Android will continue to play second fiddle to iOS in terms of the user experience - even if that iOS user experience is rigidly controlled and prevents you from doing basic things like moving an icon a couple of spaces away from another.
I never had a problem with android until I lost my nexus one. Then I entered the world of other manufacturers devices. So far they all suck. HTC has the ****ty looking sense the I dare to define a great punch in the face to good design, Samsung is notoriously known for making good hardware but not giving a crap about the software, I'm not sure why this is, why they think that the software is not as important to the device. My next try will be with Asus, they seem to update their software on top of having decent hardware. This in regard of tablets for phones, i'll switch to a nexus device as soon as my HTC dies or the galaxy nexus comes to t-mobile.
I went through apple and i dont like the company. First of all i'm forced most of the time at work to use imacs to work on visual effects, i dont know where studio owners get their facts, but those machine sucks for production! They are designed for customers not professionals, they have the guts of a laptop and none of the benefits. Then i have a macbook that gave me nothing but hardware problems for 3 years, an iphone 4 that i can't use because its super locked to at&t and i used to have an ipod touch which died unexpectedly during a vacation. The only apple stuff i'm kinda happy about are my two ipods that still survive (and yet do not allow, me to officially get my music out of them).
So as you can see I'm fed up with apple and their shady hardware, they killed all the great professional stuff they had (shake, final cut pro, quicktime pro, apple servers and raids) and i don't think osx has any advantage over windows anymore either.
There are two faces to every coin, but I'm sure one day I will find a good tablet/phone/computer maker for my needs, it's just a trial and error job.
Good luck with Apple I hope you'll be more lucky than me!

nice post mate. i totally agree with you and half the fun for me with android is the messing about and tweaking stuff. the only android phones i would recomend without thinking twice are the nexus series (because they are bloat free) and the s2 because its just and awesome device. but yeah if you have something more "consumerish" and don't feel like messing around with it you aren't gonna have the nices experience.
for the technologically unprepaired person an iProduct is probably better because it just works as they think it should (even though its awefully restrained and restricted)

i'm still running my n1 and loving it
as for apple machines for production...i have a lot to do in the video sector and we use macpros with final cut (7 not x )
i must say they are awesome machines but also have a few downsides.
they are friggin expensive (as everything apple)
they are not the error free devices everyone thinks they are. only last month we had 2 graphics cards dying 1 hdd giving up and 2 OS corruptions. so the myth about apple products not breaking down is...a myth!
so yeah if you are prepared to tinker i would go with android all the way. if you are my mum or someone else that just wants to USE something and not get involved with it...then i guess the i is the way to go.
I showed my stock skyrocket when I first bought it, she didn't even wanted to look.
Then I installed my preferred launcher (Launcher 7) and custom roms, lots of small tricks and clean ups (hid all the extra apps like Ti Backup, Root Explorer, etc.) and let the Windows Phone 7 interface dominate with big Twitter and Facebook buttons, Big camera and email button, weather. She was sold. She played with it while I was watching tv for a good while.
If the iPhone 5 will feature yet another 3.5" display, I'll take your phone no problem, she said.
I think the Android Interface, esp. the launcher, the widget handling, etc. leaves a lot to be desired. WP7 less is more approach works for some.

If you need an application that you cannot live without then go with ipad. You might be prepared that new ipad3 will blow ipad2 away but this is a bout making more and more money.
I was with Apple before Android. Now I am proud not following the iCrowd.
After stripping all bloatware and services my Sammy serves me well.
In regards to ICS I tried it on Xoom and didn't see anything vitally important.
It seems that in one year every piece of hardware becomes largely irrelevant and in two obsolete.
its still fck alpha so whats the point here??

I was with Apple before Android. Now I am proud not following the iCrowd.
After stripping all bloatware and services my Sammy serves me well.
In regards to ICS I tried it on Xoom and didn't see anything vitally important.
It seems that in one year every piece of hardware becomes largely irrelevant and in two obsolete.

Samsung , unfortiunatly you are doing what Sony did...

Hi everybody
another bad news :http://www.sammobile.com/2015/07/16...ont-ever-get-most-of-the-galaxy-s6s-features/
as you can see on my signature , i was fan of sony , me and so many other people boycotted sony because of its bad support and its lies ...
i switched to note 3 , mmmm i should say that was good , very goon in compare of sony products . after that i decided to upgrade to note 4 . unfortunately , those days , samsung's policy is confusing me :http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/shealths-spo2-stress-level-removed-t3157312
i donno why Samsung want to give its technology with dropper ! no theme store , no 64 bit unlock , this country have shealth option and another counter shouldn't have , no new touchwiz ... and as you can hear these days , the 5.1.1 update on note 4 will be the same as 5.0.1 on my high end phone ... it seems samsung don't care about users requests. do u think its hard for samsung to port the new touchwiz on note 4 ? or its impossible to open the theme store for note 4 ?
this kind of attitude remind me what sony said on xperia mini pro ( the hardware can't support multitouch ==> but a developer did ) and on xperia play ( is not compatible with android 4.0 m the drive problem ==> but a developer solved )
you know , i don't like apple phones , but when people talking about apple product support , i want to respect them and say OSSSSSS...,
yeah , the samsung's policy is not user friendly and i can see the they are losing their customer ! I hate the DROPPER policy ...
Agree agree Samsung forgot everything about note 4 they don't care about us , the only thing they care is about money when they lunch there product they like uuu we have the best of the best this device can this and that and bla bla and after a few weeks they **** on our faces and make a note 5 that can do everything and have the latest update .
So take it as a Samsung user from s4 n2 n3 N4 do never ever buy this broken phone again I swear I've used so many time trying to flash and reflash wipe installing fixing it like a disses so promise me do never buy Samsung broken phone this N4 is my last note 4 , I'm going for nexus series next buy p3obly when I've paid this broken phone
They promise and promise and nothing happens
so true, Note 4 is a lovely device. Samsung is ruining it. I am going for a iPhone or a nexus next time. I wish Note 5 sales cripple so that they get the message. After being with Samsung for more than 5 years starting with Galaxy S I9000, Note 4 is my last
This is my last samsung device, only motorola/nexus or iphone for upgrades.
If it is about hardware limitation I can understand that .
But to port most of the new S6 stuff to Note 4 by developers from xda ........... that is something unacceptable from Samsung.
They should learn from Apple .... nearly all the new software features in the new iPhone will be available in the previous iPhones , and they are really selling very well.
Why they think if they make S6 software stuff available in Note 4, no one will buy S6 or Note 5 ??????
Any way my Note 4 still with 4.4.4 & because Samsung doesn't provide any new features I don't trust their updates & I believe they send updates to make more lag so you buy newer hardware.
I feel Samsung is selling us Smart feature phones with TouchWize where there is no ability to update or develop.
The update policy is definitely the biggest perversion in the smartphone business!

i always wondered does any person switch from an older phone to new cuz of gimmicks but this thread definetly shows people are so desperate for stuff they dont even care they just want new stuff whatever samsung will keep doing this as long as people carry on crying about useless stuff.
and samsung is a bad company on customer satisfaction and it havent change for years i just wonder what did you expect while you were buying a samsung device.
and crying for s6 stuff is so fail which s6 tw just sucks. i hope they wont bring it to note 4, i dont wanna use a unstable device with worst multitaskinf experience ive ever had.
ps:5.0.1 update is better than 4.4.4 you can definetly see whenever you put them side by side

And you too?
I've happily owned the note, note 2 (twice), 3 (OnePlus One and then nexus 5) then note 4 (easily the best phone I've owned and current). This is my last Samsung though.
I'm looking forward to the Oneplus 2. Without removable battery and sd card slot, there is just no point in buying a note 5 (unless you are desperate for the s pen - which I use once or twice a week so I'm not!) and spending more than twice on a comparable sized device.
The OPO was awesome, but at the time screen sensitivity was poor until fixed by a release - of which they are so much quicker than Samsung have ever been!
Sammy is going down the swanny.:crying:
I think XDA members are never happy with any phone and never will. No 64bit? WOW what a huge difference.. really? No themes, omg lets buy an iphone. This logic is driving me crazy

the main logic in 2015 to keep customer is customer support . the people pay money and want best support , surely if something make them unhappy , they will think on change their next upgrade ... yes , its true about the technology market !

note 3 support was better seriously? its still using a very bad software. while i was using note 3 i decided that it will be my last samsung device but after note 4 came out i tested new software and i was satisfied about it and except call screen delay and gpu bug they made really a better software on lollipop way smoother and stable for me compared to kitkat. since i dont have any game on my phone gpu bug doesnt bother me aswell.
you can think whatever you want but trust me note 4 lollipop is way better than s6 s. i never use my s6 edge terrible battery life and worst multitasking experience ever i just think people have no idea about what they want, they just read tw is debloated and its fast and" we should get it omg they are threating us bad etc" its just marketing stuff. lol technology sites even published you can disable or delete useless stuff on s6 and note 4 users were still crying that we need it too and it was just possible on note 4 too.
well dont buy samsung again i really dont care about it but s6 doesnt really use a faster software dont get fooled by fake news. if you arent happy with note 4 its allright grab another phone. but just dont think everything besides your phone is awesome im having too many problems on my 6 plus too. if you can find the perfect phone in future pm me too ill grab it definetly. but until then im pretty sure ill skip note 5 and keep note 4.

Why? Because they upgrade their devices to the latest version quickly.

LOL, so you will rather get updates quickly that are already lackluster and 4-5 years after the competition?
What's the point on just having the latest OS version on your phone when that latest version of iOS doesn't bring you anything that the other OS'es doesn't already have had for many years?
That's like saying that you care more about having a higher version number on iOS over what features and stuffs you get. Which in my opinion is stupid.
How many years did it take Apple to get 3rd party keyboards to iOS and how many more years will it takes Apple to get a theme store like every other Android OEMs have now?
Another 5-6 years to get a theme store?
Yeah you get my point.
But you are on XDA-Developers, which also means that if you are getting tired of waiting for Samsung or whoever that makes an Android phone to bring you a new Android version or any fixes, then you have the awesome freedom to fix that yourself here. With iOS, you have to wait for Apple to tell you when you can update your device and how you can use it and so on.
Here you can rather find developers that will fix all of your problems before Samsung or any of the other OEMs would put out any of those fixes themself. And just to take an example on what i'm talking about here. Samsung have said that the Note 4 wont get any of the S6's features and the new S6 TouchWiz UI. But the cool thing here is that someone have ported the S6 Edge ROM to the Note 4 where we have the newest TouchWiz UI and stuffs. The ROMs aren't posted about here on XDA-Developers, so you have to find them yourself.
Here we have the freedom to choose what WE as users of a product want. With iOS, you have to wait for Apple to tell you when you can update your device and how you can use your device after how Apple want's it to be.
EDIT: Samsung haven't abandoned the Note 4 at all. We will get Android M around March-April next year where we will get a new and refreshed TouchWiz UI and many of the features the Note 5 gets anyways.

Well if that's your only criteria then it's the perfect phone for you.
I guess you are not interested in customising your phone, taking full control over the operating system, file management, mods, or choice of phone. I am also guessing you enjoy being dictated to by what Apple says you can and can't do with your phone or install on your phone.
If you're happy with that then buy an iphone. You will probably have no further need for the XDA community either.

Does anybody think we'll get at least the new apps(like the gallery and dialer, I really hate our Stock dialer. )?
To me it seems Samsung has wrote off the Note 4, it's hardly had any support since it launched last year, I've now sold mine and gone back to my trusty Nexus 5 which even after nearly 2 years is still great.
I won't be buying the Note 5 or any other Samsung phones from now on, because 6 months down the line the Note 5 will be forgotten in favor of the S7.
I've also recently picked up a cheap Nokia 735, for use with Windows 10 for when it launches in a couple of months, currently testing the preview build of Windows 10 atm on it & it's shaping up to be a very decent OS.
If the apps situation improves with Windows 10 ie ports from both Android & iOS then I may consider switching fully to Windows in the future.
But for the time being at least my next smartphone will be another Nexus device.

I agree.
Look, at the end of the day there is NOTHING that says Samsung MUST give us new features, when you bought the phone you knew what you were getting, and crying about Samsung not bringing S6 features is laughable, you sound like someone who invested in shares of a company and got mad when they didn't make any profit, that is the risk. When it comes to buying a new gadget you must be happy with what it brings from Day 1.
The mere fact that we even get frequent updates makes us lucky.
If you were complaining about FW Bugs, and features being ruined e.g. GPU being made worse due to a FW Update, then THAT would be understandable as they are not delivering what they promised when you bought the device the GPU was fine.

N910F Snapdragon Android 7 Nougat ROMs: status and plans

Guys,
i've been checking XDA every several days to see if there will be any information regarding Android 7 ROMs for N910F, but there seems to be an absolute silence.
Is there anyone from the development teams that could give an update on the subject, should we expect any roms this month, for example? i'm surprised by this silence, because Galaxy Tab S, for example, already has 7.0 rom for weeks:
[ROM][7.0] Android 7 - Nougat [T700/T705/T800/T805]
There have been a lot of complaints regarding battery life on MM, so maybe android 7 will be the next great thing in Note 4 Roms?
thanks!!
You could always pick up the great guides on here, buy a book or two, and start a 7.0N thread including a ROM
!

what an unhelpful and useless reply, really!
of course, probably you grow the cow first if you want to have some milk, or maybe build an airplane first if you need to fly to a different city. if you find it reasonable, good for you!
however this does not give any information regading upcoming Android 7 roms for N910F, or why they are not showing up (are there any issues, etc).

it's very difficult to say. Tab S is a tablet, with slow CPU, but with amazing screen and excellent thinness/weight.
Android 6 rom actually made this tablet usable again, a perfect thing for web browsing.
many users (like me) are fine to use it just for wi-fi with Android 7 ROM.
I don't think there will be any problem with Android 7 on Note 4 Snapdragon, but it's amazing that nobody comments on this, and does not give any plans. I'm sure there will be many users willing to jump from 4.4.4 to 7.0...

Yes I have the Note 4 (SM-N910F) and the Tab S (SM-T805) and have Lollipop on both. I am sure that as the Android 7 (Nougat) ROM gets rolled out to phones as opposed to tablets there will be some Nougat ROMs appearing for our Note 4. The person who cooked the Nougat ROM for the Tab S obviously had difficulties getting the telephony to work He says:
"Issues
Graphical glitches on rotation and screen off
RIL, meaning no telephony support so far"
- that is probably why that ROM hasn't been developed further for phones!

The tab s has almost the same procrssor as the note 4 exynos. However yes it isnt a processor which is good for an flagship tablet but Samsung does that with all tablets, the New Tab S2 2016 edition also only has a SD652 processor, which also cant be clasified as high end..
Ok, seems like finally there's progress:

I hope too. But let's don't get overwhelmed by the hope.
From business perspective it's pointless to invest in old device support in this situation. They've lost billions on Note7. Upgrading Note4 to Nougat means more spending and give users reasons to stay longer on old devices, while they want you to buy a new one quicker to cover their expenses.
Upgrading Note4 would be a very noble move from Samsung, but as their previous behavior shows, noble moves are not in their habits.

well, if you ignore customers and their loyalty, then it'd be pointless to invest in old device support.
if you value your customers, then it is not pointless.
because happy customers help you sell your products; unhappy customers do the opposite.
at the end of the day, there's nothing really that would prevent a healthy Android 7 ROM to be made for the Note 7.
Samsung has already made a lot of people angry by removing features like Flat screen, the removable battery, ir blaster, etc. If the battery were removable in Note 7, very possibly the recall and the media disaster wouldn't even have happened.
Let's see if they will lean, and will become customer-focused again.

I'm not trying to argue, but lots of people, who buy top devices (whatever that means), usually don't care and even don't know what version of OS they have. I'm not trying to say they are stupid or something, they just don't care or the OS version is not their priority.
Plus lots of old device owners are not direct Samsung customers, that's what this business success is about: if customer wants to be on the edge, (s)he should buy new. I don't know if there's a research about how many - 2-3 y.o. flagships have 2nd+ owners, but the refurbished phone market is quite big. So, part of not so must-do investment like upgrading old phones is not only going to nowhere for the phone makers, but also creates undesired competition for their new products on some markets (e.g. like in my country where operators' offers phone+contract aren't so "sweet" like in countries with bigger number of potential customers and people would think twice if they need to upgrade with brand-new or lightly used). Note4 users are just a thin slice.
And you can't blame Samsung for not taking care about old device owners - they released 6.0.1 update for N910F not so long ago, they run "buy-back" program in lots of places. But, you know, there should be something to get you interested in buying new phone.
OK, seems like we're going off topic here
I did get the same thought about my Note4 and Nougat as soon as I heard about termination of Note7, but... I'm skeptic here. It's hard time for Samsung to invest in something with doubtful possibility to return and make their new products less valuable comparing to old ones.
I've no idea what you all are thinking, but 1. There sure as Hell won't be an official Sammy Update to 7.0. Never ever.
2. 7.0 Custom roms are far away. Since no Samsung phone is on an official stable build (afaik) there's no base yet. So the only Option is AOSP. In my experience even the 6.0 Roms aren't stable enough for a daily driver. Since a Nougat port needs some base, normally the 6.0 Rom would be used as a base. It gets a bit technical from here on, but tldr is, it's not as easy as downloading the source, copying some folders around and bang, rom...
3. As a (un)written rule, you never ask for eta's. Ever. It's no problem if you ask if there is anything out there, but as you figured already out, there's not. So asking like a child on christmas day when it's going to be there, especially that close to release of the source, is considered rude.

your comment regarding the lack of the first official base gives some understanding regarding 7.0 status, thanks for that!
As for the last one, p.3, asking "when" and "how is it going" could be considered rude only by really childish and immature persons.
There are a lot of people here on XDA that flash roms in their spare time too (like people that develop them), and not everyone has too much of it. we would like to have at least some basic understanding about 7.0 progress, to plan migration to the new rom (which requires dedicating several consecutive days for roms flashing, data migration, and testing). Asking when, is about planning.
"I'm not trying to argue, but lots of people, who buy top devices (whatever that means), usually don't care and even don't know what version of OS they have.".
According to my experience, this is true. No one here should think that they use their phones the way we do, here on XDA. 8 out of 10 users just update their devices, because they see the OTA notification appearing, but don´t even care about the differences between the old OS and the new one. If you ask them, what is KitKat and Lollipop, or root, most likely they won´t know the answers. As long as Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber, whatever works, everything´s fine. The only difference they do care about, is battery ilfe. By the way, battery life... I´m an android user since Gingerbread. I had several devices, before i bought the Note 1, and since then I´m using only Note phones, I had the Note 2, Note 3, and now for a long time, Note 4. I never ever understood why some people are so keen on having the newest OS, because according to my experience, the newest is rarely the better... I liked KitKat, especially the X-Note custom ROM´s. Lollipop was on the market for long time, i had to reflash my phone, so i thought i give it a try. After a few weeks of being on Lollipop, i ran back to KitKat, my good old X-Note. Lollipop was a huge stepback in battery life, and i haven´t experienced any really noticable advantages. About a month ago i deciced to upgrade my KitKat to Marshmallow, just out of curiousity. A huge disappointment, again. Battery life is also worse, the overhyped permission management system is a joke, and apart from the off-screen memo i haven´t found anything useful in MM. So, as before, i went back to my good old KK, i enjoy the stability, the extreme long battery life, and, honestly, i don´t even wait to Nougat.

According to my experience, this is true... (shortened).

It goes even further than not careing. My own girlfriend HATES OS Updates. i told her, that for her Mate 7 there's a new Android Version out. She refuses to update because every update on every device ever (not only android, windows too) meant major hassle for her. She uses the phone as is and everything that changes anything is evil. Don't try to argue with security or such. She is just feared, that her phone won't work the same anymore. And seeing how much i flash my phone to "get it working" i can't blame her
Battery life is a topic i'm struggeling with. My inner nerd wants to get the maximum runtime out of that thing. But recently, with Doze introduced, i have some major Notification Problems. Allo doesn't notify at all or 2 days later. Whatsapp randomly delays Notifications by hours... Maybe the ever itching battery saving thing has gone to far. I mean, on a typical workday i leave at 6am and come home at 5pm with 75% Battery left. I just stopped caring. The Note 4 makes it through a day on every OS for me. And a second one if i have too. :good:
Seems like no news at all regarding 7.0 ROMs...
an absolute silence...
Several devs making AOSP/CM Roms have stated in their threads, that it's in the works. Only now some devices running stock'ish roms are getting Android 7 (OPO..) We are rocking an oldish phone with a processor/chipset that no official Android 7 phone has. Samsung has no official 7 rom either. So it's just a lot of work to get something useable.
I'm sure our devs have something bootable. But getting from there to something usable/daily driver ready is a long and bumpy road. Give them some time. We'll get it sooner or later. For sure.

P20 Pro Bootloader unlock code 2020, is there ANYWHERE i can get one?

So is it possible to get get the unlock code to a CLT-L29 in 2020?
I was backing up pictures with USB, and cable was loose and fell off, and for some reason that made my P20 remove all media on my phone.
Due to limitations in EMUI 9 i cant use any deepscan, but might work on EMUI 8, but my phone wont show the allow PC remote hisuite app window to appear, so its a bust.
Next i wanna try ROOT, but need unlock code to root.
Has anyone any way of getting this code? that know it works? dont feel like spending 50$ on a fake page/service.

Officially or unofficially, no.
However there is one method which involves opening the phone, this is going to remain the only method unless a team tries to work it out which I highly doubt.
Crap I know, not a lot you can do pal. Most people have jumped ship. Can't see anyone who mods their phone buying Huawei ever again. I certainly won't.

Well, i am done with Android in general. Google's been removing features each update and honestly, the **** optimization that Android has regarding multitasking is so bad....how could Apple use 4gb of ram to keep so many apps easily?
Oneplus, yeah, they have their opimizations here and there, but i don't want to go set up the app background limit or some other stuff just to get it fictional (according to dontkillmyapp.com)
Either way, i will see what will happen in the future. If oneplus 8 comes with true water resistance and wireless charging, then sure as hell i might switch to it. If not, then i am going for Apple (i'd rather pay a kidney and know i got a functional device that will have 5+ years of updates)
Still it's sad that Huawei doesn't co-op with the xda community by letting us test harmony OS, develop apps and report bugs, but oh well...
I am also very interested in what op 8 brings but i would be slightly more skeptical. Well sure, if dev support and performance are the only factors go get it. Keep in mind that Oneplus (7 serie) is also known for terrible ram management. Another thing worth to consider is camera. Compared to huawei, samsung, pixel or iPhone it is just ok. If you have time please read op 7t pro review on xda. It's long but worth to read.
Btw. You're totally right about root and development today. It's not that fun anymore, unlocking bl often breaks functionality of crucial apps (like paying with phone) and magisk hide doesn't help it all.
(besides even op 7t pro doesn't have fully working twrp yet).
As for the iPhone. Price is still scary and storage/battery capacity is a joke. Only iphone 11 pro max gets decent size battery... and beats android handsets on this field About ios it's all about t personal preferences.
There is method called BLK, it costs about 30 dollars to get BLK key and two guys who know how to do it will help you with getting bootloader code for free. You can contact them at huaweihax on telegram

I mean, you get what you pay for. I am not an apple fanboy since i never got a chance to fully test an iphone or any apple product, but honestly, after testing an iphone 11 pro in a store (as well as iphone 11 which, for an hd screen, it looks pretty good), i'd take the risk with the prices just for a phone that will hold me very well for more than 5 years. Storage wise, i always do cleanup on my phone and, on my p20 pro, i barely used the 128gb storage (sits somewhere under 32gb). About battery, for a 3000mah battery, it holds longer than my p20 pro, which is amazing! Yeah, the max pro is better but it is too big and large to even fit in my pocket. But either way, i will see what iphone i should get.
I wish ANDROID OEM's would keep up with apple and bring up at least 5 years of OS updates, especially when they have their own services.
And thank you for agreeing with me regarding my opinion about bootloader unlocking. It is pretty much useless and Google may just disable the adb command in the near future. Why sacrifice 80% of the phone's features for a custom rom?

..... Interesting, has anyone on these forums had any success with this method?
(other than the thread by @XTutorials https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20-pro/how-to/finnaly-t3972825 - which i noted with interest but nothing much seemed to come of it)
Could really do with hearing some success stories - I don't mind sabotaging the phone by getting the cover off and losing water-resistance.... but I'd want to be reasonably sure it was going to work
What is the features that everyone wants from unlocking bootloade on this phoner? I've had an unlocked bootloader since i bought this phone, however never seen any great benefit apart from ad blocking. Been running stock for 6 months now though. I came from a long list of HTC devices where modding was fun and actual features added. I just don't see any major benefit of doing this on this phone. Basically no Devs development. If you wanted closer stock Android, not sure why anyone would have bought Huawei in the first place. Maybe im missing some super feature, if so, please tell me.

Pretty much "xdatards" complaining at every huawei post that they no longer provide bootloader unlocking. I mean, samsung and other big oem still don't allow it or it does but breaks the entire software and they barely have any custom roms (not talking about xiaomi or oneplus)
Either way, i won't be surprised if Google removes the bootloader unlock command from adb in the next big android update.

Personally, I'm not interested in any phone restricted to EMUI - whilst it's not a terrible iteration of Android it's still too restrictive by half (e.g. the low maximum headphone volume really pee'd me off!)
I don't understand all the excitement of EMUI updates on these forums - whatever Huawei churn out next it will probably be more restrictive rubbish. IMO the only hope is Lineage 16.0 - I'm running that on a View 10 and it's a good daily driver (although a little tricky to install and maintain)
But you're right: Q: Why buy a Huawei if you're interested in stock Android experience?
A: It was a mistake with hindsight....!

They already blocked the bootloader unlocking thing in emui 10, just like how every android oem will do in their next major update.
I start to think that Apple is no longer the **** company now when it comes to mobile market, it's the android oem. Let's be fair : you pay 1k for a phone that becomes irrelevant in 2 years, becomes slowers because of those so called "security updates", no custom rom support (even though custom roms are pretty much dead at this point, barely any builds coming up), and other software related issues.
What the hell is innovation if software is the main point of a product? Those so called "Isheeps" are so right with android's terrible update platform and optimization. 12gb of ram for what? Just for specs to flex with.
Everybody should switch to Iphones at this point.
Huawei tried to kill apple but honestly, with their broken promises, i start to think that maybe the android ban is a good reason for Huawei to start respecting customers and coop with them. After all, they want to be on top...

Screw Huawei, they deserve it.
As for Apple, it's exactly the same with Mac OS Vs windows, windows has to work on a plethora of hardware combinations, as does android, osx and iOS have very very very limited hardware combinations, bare in mind how much android has caught up, it's not noticeable any longer, in fact a lot of phones have surpassed apple in so many ways. Oneplus and Pixels namely.
I've lived with Apple once, that was enough

Lol about the updates, for many it's the potential prospect of having anything other than EMUI and or any limitations being lifted and or the poor optimizations becoming better than the trash that we've had to get used to.

Titanium.
AOSIP ROM
True ad blocking
Xposed
Magisk mods
Snapchat mods
Ability to remove zram (massive boost in gaming and device speed)
Root optimizations
Root apps
Kernels
TWRP mods
True dark mode (something I've been using for several years not this awful crap they're calling a feature nowadays)
I could be here all day long.
Removing the shackles, gives you freedom, it's your choice what you do with it.
This is the essence of android, which is why people are annoyed at Huawei primarily amongst other awful decisions.

Possibility to unlock bl is limited to regional releases in case of LG or Samsung. Lastly i check there was no way to unlock bl on lg g8 (flagship 2019). LG update policy is the most stupid ive ever experienced. Regarding galaxy s serie - there are still regional variants (eg american carrier branded) where unlocking bl is not available.
As for the perks you mentioned... I am afraid not of them are available / fully working today. I am not a gamer so only adblock is sth really useful to me, but it's not a deal breaker.
Couple of years ago root meant sth. Gave you freedom and didn't bring any negative consequences. It's no longer the case. I think root scene will be dead within couple of years.
It's a shame that htc is dead. Their flagships were equipped with top notch hw and devs support was among the best on xda.
Unlock bootloader on samsung : Knox ****s the entire phone up
Unlock bootloader on lg : impossible on some phone variants
What i was talking about is that all companies like to copy eachother, no matter how small or big it is. Take a note with the disappearance of the headphone jack : Apple did it first and then everybody did it too. Huawei got the in display fingerprint scanner and reverse wireless charging : Samsung copies it.
Now with emui 10, Google can as well block the unlock command because then companies will copy this "feature".
Actually, since the iphone 11 pro release, Apple caught up with the competition of flagship devices.
I understand you regarding oneplus being a good comapany that allows bootloader unlocking. But the thing is : you unlock it you loose some important daily driver features like banking apps (which i use). Oneplus, by the looks of it, did it so well with the speed and optimization, however i'm not sure how well they did it with ram management. Either way, when it comes to overall support and less headaches, Apple does it better. "it just works!"
Still, let's see what 2020 brings up. Huawei might redeem themselves this time. If not, then say goodbye because i don't give more chances.

Unfortunately, the root community is pretty much dying since summer 2019 (imo). Most rooting apps can be used with adb (like appops and shizuku). Either way, like i said, i won't be surprised if Google blocks unlocking in the adb command.
Also, Huawei can root their phones using service mode, but nobody has access to their service software, yet.
I think we will disagree on this. I cannot remember everything I use root for, but things do pop up from time to time.
It's just easier with root.
Android will always have root and if not then it's the end of android, i really wouldn't bother anymore.
What I mentioned still works btw, and yes you do trust the efuse chip on some devices, but so what, it's worth it.
Losing a banking app? You use it yes but that's you lol, I would trade that off for root.
Apple is still a closed eco system and always will be I honestly cannot see android ever being that way, if it is then bye bye android.
This is my opinion and it's staying that way lads, sorry but that's me.

If Google completely killed rooting, ppl will still buy them. XDA rooting is a niche market now days. Rooting, custom ROMs etc was fun while it lasted. I still love android eco system, way superior to iDevices. iPhones can be jailbroken too, not as closed as you might think.

Quite a defeatist attitude of you. ask me, jailbreak didn't work on the latest OS, it's cat and mouse, not the same thing as root, not the same OS, your comparing oranges and apples.
Google won't do that, not being naive either, time will tell. I didn't think unlocked multipliers on CPUs would still be around today, yet here we are with a dedicated line for both AMD and Intel, GPU had now followed suit as had RAM.
Google isn't dead, they're just getting started, closing off a massive part of what made them famous in the first place isn't something they're going to embrace, that's the likes of Huaweis job.
Time will tell, right now it's open and there's nothing to suggest otherwise, besides the backlash should it happen.
If it did happen I would have no hesitation to buy apple, at that point android would have lost their ace up their sleeve, because I'm a small minority who thinks that doesnt mean I'm wrong, not wanting to follow the masses is a good thing, and going by Google's hiring techniques they'd agree.
