Install JB, don't change your dpi. It's honestly not that different from kitkat, maybe get a few xposed modules? JB is easier to mod than kk anyways. My phone went from Kinda sluggish on kk to triple xxxxxxl speed of light on JB thanks have a good fun time

Hi. Just looking for some advice. My Captivate is currently on 2.3.6 stock and it is unbelievably slow even with a full format. Could someone please recommend a good lite android version I could flash to make the phone faster?
Thanks for any help!

If you want to be 100% safe - CM7/Gingerbread MIUI
If you're willing to risk your Internal SD card being borked (reason is unknown, although a lot of cases showed up around/after ICS/JB are ported to the 1st gen SGS devices. I highly suspect its a hardware issue, but you never know) - Slim ICS 4.2. It's not as smooth as JB roms, but it's prettier than GB roms, and it's more responsive IMO.
Jellybean option - CM10.1, CyanAOSP, GamersROMz, Slimbean, SuperNexus. Stick to 4.2.2, 4.3 doesn't bring any significant new feature, and the system feels a lot slower than 4.2.2 based roms. CM10.1 is the standard Cyanogenmod option, CyanAOSP is what I used to use before my Internal SD Card borked, it's essentially CM/SuperNexus lite. GamersROMz is pretty fast, but I lost the file and the download link is super slow, so I gave up redownloading it. Slimbean has the cool inverted mode that save battery, but it's a little slow compared to the CM based ROMs. SuperNexus is really fast and smooth, but feature wise, it's like a Nexus. You'll need Xposed to get some features that is built into CM, but at that point it'll slow down.
Don't bother with KitKat IMO, it's slower than JB without any significant functionality upgrade that is relevant on our devices.

Thank you so much for your help! I first tried out the Gingerbread MIUI Rom, but wasnt too impressed with it. Half the apps remained in Chinese. I ended up flasing GamerzRomz. Pretty impressed with it and will prob keep it. Much much faster than stock! Thanks again!
Hi, I tried to find how to enable Incoming call notifications feature like in Note3 (when you are in app you just see small notification of incoming call instead of full screen one which sometimes shut down app).
Is any1 can help me to find or implement this in stock I9295 4.4 ROM.
Thank you
You cannot straight away enable it. You would require to replace the phone.apk with incallui.apk + a few other apk's and make several edits to systemui and frameworks to make it work.
If you are phone model is i9295 then you can flash the super WizCyan ROM which is stock 4.4.2 and having mostly S5 apps including this feature. You will get the link to the thread in my signature.
Thank you Jasonrr. That will be a lot easier if this will be available as a mod. Will wait maybe some1 will do mod with this.
Is google edition have this option?

What do you mean by google edition? there is no google edition ROM for our device (at least that I know of) and even the google edition will not have it as this is a samsung (phone app) feature. Though I remember this feature was available in one of the CM based ROM's, cannot recollect which one though.
If you are looking at an ASOP ROM then the Super WizCyan ROM is deodexed and totally debloated (can compare it with ASOP) with only the goodness of touchwiz (includes S5 Toolbox - floating app bar) with a separate aroma add-on installer for additional apps / features that were removed.
Yeah i looked at your ROM and is really interesting, maybe will try to put it on later. Did u benchmark your ROM vs stock 4.4.2?
And when i said google edition i was mean this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/rom-google-edition-sgs4a-intl-v0-4-t2817383
Or this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406177
But both looks like still having lots of bugs.

Did a benchmark once with antutu and it gave a score of around 29000. Though I should mention that I am not much a fan of the benchmarks and have never tried before debloating and applying the MOD's (if that is what you meant by stock)
Oh yes, the one by Spegelius is the kitkat version, which is still work in progress (but seems quite stable now) and partly based on CM11, while the other is a jellybean port from S4
I'm a week already with your ROM, and I can say is very smooth, performance is better than stock ROM and I see 10-20% better battery life.
So if any1 looking for this feature I suggest to instal WizzCyan ROM developed by Jasonrr. You will never want to back to stock ROM again.
I am trying to get the AT&T stuff out of my phone, and to have updates and bug fixes every now and then.
Untill now, found only the safestrap but i did not find any ROM that seems to have android 4.4.4. Is there anything like cyanogenmod?

Can't use a ROM with custom kernel, yet. I recommend 4.4.2 and HyperDrive 19. It works really well, has a nice installer with lots of extras, good battery life... All around, it's a really well built ROM.

As someone who was blindsided and crestfallen to find out about the locked bootloader (no cyanogenmod for us,we're S.O.L.) let me make some recommendations to at least get some of that stock android (i.e. cyanogenmod) feel back (I'm assuming you're already rooted, if not, google towelroot and follow directions):
Get SafeStrap
Flash this mod to drastically improve battery life and general performance
Get rid of KNOX
De-Odex your stock ROM (it's easy and allows a lot more customization)
And enter the exciting world of SMALI editing. This takes a little practice, and still doesn't afford the full freedom of CM, but you can customize the look and feel of your phone, still feel like a champ, and just learn about android in general. I've used a bunch of these successfully, with virtually no prior coding experience. E.g. I hated those battery/charger cover notifications, thanks to this thread, they're gone and not coming back.
Also, get rid of the stock launcher and replace it with NOVA launcher. More customization, smoother, better performance, looks more like CM. You can (and should) use Titanium Backup to either freeze or uninstall bloatware (at the very least any app with AT&T in the name).
AdAway is your friend.
Quick and easy mobile data toggle mod
I would recommend the Knox_Out zip in my post here since the one in the OP hasn't been updated since July and removes an apk you might actually need.
My phone went mad and downloaded 6.80gb stuff from online wasting my this month data package so i decided to update newest Chroma (about year old) to 7.1.1 stock rom + TWRP recovery + Franco kernel. As usually that felt like downgrade.
- Battery not shown as percentage
- Camera sound
- No dark/black theme
Many other issues cames too even i have used phone like 30min so i thought no point change settings more than that. I dont understand how hard can it be google to even try. I first time used android when it was something like 2.2.2 and still wondering same issues what i did then. I went from iPhone 2g to android and still miss what apple had by then and what android does not have even now but no can do.
I am not heavy user of my phone. I just want basic things to work. Is there some custom rom which is like chroma. I liked how chroma was like allmost stock rom but with couple of custom settings but its no longer continued so is there any rom which have taken it spot?
Wow, you went from a custom ROM to stock and you are missing features? Who would've guessed that?!?!
Sorry for the sarcasm lol. Flash literally any custom ROM and you should have those features. Most, if not all, N ROMs have Substratum/OMS which will allow for dark themes. Battery percentage should also be included in every ROM. Camera sound should be in most ROMs. As for me I'm still on Resurrection Remix M + xposed framework, which in my opinion has the most customization out of any possible Nexus 6 setup in the world.
I would suggest Pure Nexus to you which in my opinion is the closest to Chroma. But make a Nandroid backup and flash a few until you see what you like. Also checkout this YouTube channel which is amazing. @glockman4519 does awesome ROM overview videos if you want to get a feeler for something before flashing it.

Do you refer to the camera shutter sound? If yes, you can't remove the sound on latest stock camera app...
I go with pure Nexus. Thanks for tip. I dont understand most of custom roms which are allways full of bugs. I never understanded either why there is need for over 10 diffrent rom for one device. Developers should work together and there would be only couple of very good roms to choose from but i know its hard people to work together so aint gonna happen
Running Pure Nexus on my wife's Shamu and on my angler. You shouldn't be disappointed. Just as you, i like simple cosmetic tweaks, dark themes, and it does the job. :good:
Resurrection Remix, @Neo style is my current dd. Every customization you could ever want is in there, but there are many great ROMs. PN is one that if you came from Chroma, you'll like. Nitrogen is good, et al. Just read the threads and give them a shot

Sounds to me that you are going to like Pure Nexus since it has that Stock look and feel you want but with some extra and PN has extras.
The nice thing is you can pick and choose what features you want to run so you are in controle.
The rom does not come rooted because @BeansTown106 has decided that too many users are looking to pass the Safety Net Check for apps like Google Pay and some others that require your device be unaltered from stock. But if you want to run Substratum, you can either flash Chainfire's SuperSu sr3 v2.79 (or any systems suoerSu) or even flash Magisk Systems Root (I think it is up to v10 now) and that will allow for theming with Substratum.
That should get you pretty close, of not better than you g had with Chroma. PN is one of the most stable N roms out for the Nexus devices that I know. Another great rom would be SiX rom... But that is a whole nother story : )
I´ve been using Pure Nexus two days now. It seems usable but i dont know is it the 7.1.1 or the franco kernel or something like that but im having performance issues. Even clash of clans in own city does not work smoothly. Also camera shutter sound cannot be disabled. Otherwise i think all works as supposed to. When i installed rom i did clean install. I formated whole device including internal memory. Then i installed Pure nexus 7.1.1 + Full dynamic gapps + Franco newest kernel + Supersu
Anyone know whats the best kernel or do i just have to wait for updates on both rom and kernel?
EDIT: i will be now on pure nexus thread. Thanks for help.
@HTC Tytn user 188
The camera shutter sound can't be disabled with stock camera on 7.x Roms.
For performance issues, maybe try asking in The Rom/Kernel thread.
A combination you should test:
Crdroid rom, elementalx kernel, crystal tronik dark 12 substratum theme and latest beta nova launcher
gives me a lot of customizations, dark+blue look and good battery/performance
Works solid for me !
I have had a lot of experience with stock ROMs and custom ROMs,and for now my daily driver was LineageOS since it was super fast.
But yesterday I had a weird problem where my WiFi didn't work, and Magisk kept dissapearing every reboot, and half of my apps didn't want to open.
And I had to do so much work to get it working properly,so I was too tired to do anything with that again, and I ended up flashing AIM rom(based on Lineage but with OMS and a bit more tweaks).
And that stops charging my phone after I use Snapchat or any other game for max 5 minutes.
I want to go back to stock, but I want something that is debloated and doesn't have so much customizations on board,as I am looking to only install Magisk, systemless Xposed and Android N-Ify as I don't need any more theme tweaking.
What would you recommend in my case?
I'm using Xperience with the Cyberian camera mod. Camera is way better than stock and the battery life is close to stock 5.1.1
