Im not sure if anyone has the answer to this...
I happened to be in Taiwan at the weekend when the Note 5 launched.
I visited an official concession at a department store where I had the opportunity to ask the salesman a few questions. He assured me that the model (N9208), would be the same one that would be launching in the Philippines (where I live). I took his word for it and purchased the phone. I had the opportunity to visit a Samsung store today to find that the software (keyboard etc) is very different on the Philippines version (still an N9208)!
I love the phone but English (UK) is my first language and the Philippine version supports it much better than the Taiwanese version. The handwriting pad is the most noticeable difference as it is set up for inputting characters as opposed to writing sentences...
I was hoping to change this; N9208ZTU1AOH3_N9208ZZT1AOH3_BRI
to this; N9208XXU1AOGE_N9208OLB1AOGF_XTC
I was hoping to keep it as official as possible.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Why do people do this? Buy a phone that's not for a region they live in cause they "can't wait" or some other excuse? If I want a phone for the US, I'm not going to go to the UK to get it......

Ok, nvm LOL. Didn't think of it that way, forgot there is no UK launch for Note 5.
No custom ROMs (or even root) yet, I believe -- but I'm a Note 4 user and I sometimes use Google's own handwriting keyboard in place of Sammy's solution. It installs as an alternate keyboard.
I find that It works best when paired with Google's own keyboard. Both should be available to download on your device since Google now releases their apps on a stand-alone basis (i.e. it won't replace your stock Sammy keyboard).
Hope that helps while you wait for a custom ROM.

Thank you. I have been using Stylus Beta from the Play store in the meantime. The google one was great but I have found writing sentences much more fluid with the stylus app. I recommend checking it out!
Cheers for the input!

just flash it with odin...they are compatable.......all the firmware for n9208 will flash no problem
youve given me an idea to do it now ,,,,i have same problem
just curious why you picked xtc firmware
Hi, the firmware I picked is from the Philippines. English is widely spoken, especially in business etc so it's the best bet for full English support of the N9208 I believe. I think the firmware I picked is the carrier free version although I need to double check.
I'm very tempted to use Odin but my only holdup is Knox. Samsung pay is launching imminently and I would hate to miss out if my phone becomes unofficial!
Any idea if it would be effected?

Yes, you need to enable 'OEM unlock' before you can flash with Odin. Same happened on my N920C when i tried to flash a custom kernel: always failed until I changed the OEM unlock.

Don't think this have anything to do with it as i remember seeing that on my Galaxy S6 as well.
Could you try to flash another compatible software? I had the same problem once with my S6 which was LUX, tried to flash a firmware from the Netherlands on it and would fail as well, but then tried a French one and it flash without problems.
Or you might want to go look if there's a solution in the Galaxy S6 (and Edge) forums. I wasn't the only one with that problem but since I could flash the French firmware i've never bothered to further look into it.

Which firmwares have you tried flashing on your N9208 ? I was gonna try to flash the N920T firmware on my N9208. I have a t-mobile sim in my N9208 and I want wifi calling and the new t-mobile video calling feature.
I only tried n9208 firmwares on sammobile... Malaysia... Philippine... and some unknown ones
never thought trying others...
could others be used safely?
I just wanted to change keyboard because chinese characters keep coming up!

the one that fails is the modem I dont know why ,maybe if someone could provide as with a flashable modem zip (of n920c for example) would be great.
To change just the system
I unziped the firmware of the n9208 then I replaced the cache.img and system.img with the ones of a n920c rom.
then build up the tar file and flashed with odin. Rooted and flashed TPWR after.
everything works except nfc probable from the baseband that is different.
Thats why I am asking of a flashable modem..
Tried Dr.Ketans rom also but I lost signal.

Hello,
I bought N9208 today with the knowledge that it is compatible to my current carrier TMobile. I have several questions for those who have this phone.
#1. Am I able to install the operating system from TMobile? I am basically a noob when it comes to rooting etc etc. The phone comes unlocked.
#2. What is the primary difference between the N9208 and TMobile' N920T. I purchased this phone because it has 2 Sim slot and I like the Titanium color.
#3. What should I be doing first upon receiving the phone? How can I add flash software to this phone?
#4. Does unlock also mean the phone is rooted?
Any help or advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you for the patience.

I think you shouldn't do anything to your phone during a few days, to make sure that everything works fine. With an unlocked phone you'll be able to use any SIM card, and with a rooted phone you'll be able to see, modify and delete system files that otherwise can't be seen, so if a phone is unlocked it doesn't mean that it's also rooted.
To flash a new ROM you can use Odin.

You can't use a firmware of the N920T on your N9208, as they are different models. You can only install a firmware that is specific for your device model.

So what should I do? lol I don't want Taiwan's apps. I would like to cater my phone as closely as TMobile's.
I have the N9208 and use it on TMOUS. It does not come with any Taiwan apps, just all Samsung official apps. The traditional Chinese keyboard and handwriting recognition are on by default. I have not tried turning them off since I do write in Chinese sometimes. You cannot install TMO FW as they are two different models. The main difference is that the TMO supports Samsung Pay while the N9208 does not yet since it is not supported in TW yet. It is not rooted by default.

It's up to you, just know that if you do root, it will trip Knox. That means you won't be able to use Samsung Pay if it gets released in the future and Android Pay unless there is some workaround. Yes, there is Simplified Chinese. You can also always download third party keyboards if you prefer.

Oh, what do you mean by "traditional chinese on by default?" I mostly type in English, so I hope English Language can be on default. I currently have Note 3, and if I swipe the space key, it switches to simplified chinese. Is Note 5 similiar to this that?
I guess I will leave it alone for a bit and see how it does. I read on the T Mobile forum at Tmobile website and it says N9208 does not have "LTE" and that wi fi calling isn't available? Is this true though?
Thanks
I just received my Note 5 N9208, and there isn't simplified chinese. Do I go to google play to download it? Also, the weather, how do I add multiple cities' weather? I am not liking the Samsung keyboard already. Can someone help? thanks

I just mean that when you first use the device the default keyboard and handwriting are set to both traditional Chinese and English. Yes you can deselect Traditional and change it to English. On the Note5 you just click on the globe key and it will change the language. It does support LTE. I posted a picture in a post somewhere, you can look at my history to find it. It does not have wifi calling from what I can tell.

I read elsewhere in the forum that the N9200 (China Note 5) does not come with the google play store and that rooting is often required to get it. I don't want to root. Does the N9208 come with the google play store? I assume yes since it's the Taiwan version, but would love to get some confirmation. Thanks! My plan is to use the phone on AT&T in the US states, and on China Mobile in China (N9208 should be fine for use in China as long as not using China Telecom, from what I've seen on frequencycheck).

Help what is the original firmware for this phone
That's an International model, you can flash whatever country firmware you want.
No I want to flash stock firmware back to it, and you could be right but I have not read that anywhere. Yeah I see the film where for every other variant but the G called Samsung they offered me no help because it wasn't international version. I do have a rooted now but I lost most of my functions with the S Note and Spen.

There are LOTS of different firmwares you can install because the SM-N920G was sold in many countries. Just use Odin to install whatever version you like the most, check out the attached screenshots. If you wanna feel like you did it right, select a firmware that could be compatible with your country, but there is no wrong or right firmware for a G model, because it is international.
Wow it's 4 am I did not expect to get a response so quickly and so thoroughly will put thank you very much.

Hey thank you very much XDA members your advice is always the best even though being new sometimes I don't quite understand it but I was able to fix my first bricked phone it took 3 or 4 days figure it out but I got everything in the pass and now I'm going to try to reboot it again lots of love
Hello.
This problem is... hard to resolve.
I bought , maybe the last relase from Samsung (SM - G6200) in China. I like the phone in general, nice looking, good hardware... I didn't know that I will be unable to install google manually. Cant find any international or western firmware, anywhere. I'm not shure can I use some other firmware except for SMG6200. First, when I login to my google account it's not recgonize my new phone, only recgonize my old phone (Galaxy S6) I did the factory reset on my old phone.. so When I open playstore website on my new phone, and want to install some app, cant do it because it give me the option "Install" and then, when I click, shows me my devices and only my old device and ofc cant install. For some apps, like facebook or some other apps its says its already installed on this devices and its not. If I login with another account its just says "you dont have any devices". To be more wierd, if I , like right now wanna download google play services, it says that I dont have any devices (since Im using my new google account) but also says the google play services are installed. But if I dont have any devices where is it installed? First that account/playstore download problem. Now, I tried to download everything manually. Google framwork, google play services, google calendar and there was one more thing as I remember to install to run google play app.. but not, just says google serivices or google play store has stopped working.
What to do? I dont even know where to start anymore.

Can I send me the international version of the Samsung G6200 firmware?
Samsung Galaxy A6s (Chinese ROM)
Hi everyone!
All of you can download stock frimwares from here:
sammobile.com/firmwares
I had some issues with a Samsung Galaxy A6s (SM-G6200) bought in China, cause i'm in china right now. And i'm trying to flash an international stock ROM on it, A600FNXXU3BSC5 for Spain, cause there was no US version and i'm native spanish speaker.
gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a6s-9352.php
Mostly because i want a global rom on it to use Google Play and services....
But, it is impossible to boot in download mode to tray to flash it with Odin, not event pressing both volume keys at the same time an connecting de USB cable, or volume dawn + power button, nor any other button combination.
I've already tried with ADB commands to unlock the bootloader without positive results, and downloading the CROM app from apkmirror and the app refuse to install.
I bought it yesterday in a physical store, so, i think i could try asking for a refund, but i need a cellphone, there is any chance to flash it with a global rom or as an alternative (that i don't like) install Google apps and make it work properly? Please help me!
Aint it pretty sketchy buying a Korean Samsung phone in China, where Samsung clones are quite prevelant? Only thing I can think of why you're having issues with stock rom..
You can check whether your Samsungs legit or not with this app

I've got a full refund for that Samsung A6s! It was made totally in China for a Chinese company and branded as Samsung, so, legit but unflashable.
Now i bought a XIaomi Mi8 Lite (Youth in China) and waiting 15 days to my bootloader unlock approve.
Then i'm going to flash the Global Stable version ROM.
PD: If somebody is planning to buy a cellphone in China and then flash it, the best option is a Xiaomi Mi8 Youth, it allows to unlock the bootloader, you just have to wait 15 a few days, and you have official stable global roms.
Thks!

We need to record calls without rooting our devices (mine is a Samsung Note 8 updated to Android PIE).
All third party apps are not working anymore because Google (shame on you) blocked them with android 9.
We need a quick solution from XDA because the most of the Producers brands don't want to provide for that (only Xiaomi provide a native function in his smartphones, from what i know). Samsung seems not interested to this request of the users.
Please develpers focus on this...million of users waiting a quick solution!!!!

Actually You can. I changed mine from NZC to INS. Download the particular countries firmware and flash it with Odin.
I did it like 1 year back but just google it. There are steps. Knox will be still intact.

Hi, i have taiwanese firmware BRI (in Sammobile i can see that Taiwan and India have same the same CSC N950FOXM5DSB2).
I have not record call native function with this firmware. Are u sure that in Indian software that function is present? I mean in Note 8 (SM-N950F DS) dual sim.
By the way, if i decide to flash indian firmware .....to change CSC what file is the one to use? home_CSC or CSC? I've read that someone flashed the other country firmware but then CSC didn't changed ....
Can u link me a video to do this? or a forum with a clear instructions to use a firmware of another country?
Thanks in advance
try this

Hey Try this. *#272*Device IMEI# if it shows list of CSC select the one you desired.
Caution: It will factory reset the phone. When booting don't insert sim card as it will try to change back CSC to your sim country. Let me know if it working.
I had to flash through ODIN coz in NZ phones are network dependent. but asian and european version have multiple CSC so it should work fine without root.

If it didn't work let me know. Got few idea in my mind.
You should be presented with this pop up once you enter the code in dialer.
maybe it's enough that i only change my CSC (now BRI) to INDIA (INS)..to enable record calls native function.
then hard reset and let update the smartphone.
I have Taiwan official last firmware with PIE now (received OTA) and i've read on Sammobile that Taiwan and India have same firmware numbers.
So maybe i don't need to flash indian firmware with ODIN....what do u think? Should it work this way?
I will test when i have time (i need the phone and i dont have time to waste reinstalling and configuring everything again)....
Before this test i wait other suggestions please...thanks in advance

Try to install this and try the code it will work fine. Then you can update to PIE
Just out of curiosity can you install 3rd party apps like boldbeast recorder?
It is what I am using on PIE BETA
It would be helpful to know if it is possible to root and install twrp on the latest firmware (sept 1st security update - pie) or if something changed to make the method described here incompatible. I have a 950F exynos with vietnam csc. I rooted both my Note 2 and Note 4, so i have some experience with rooting.
I am ready to root now as i want to install mods to improve the camera, but don't want to face a nightmare of a boot loop and ending up having to reinstall everything and still have no root, no twrp, or a bricked phone. I posted on the root thread but it seems dead. Can anyone with similar firmware who has recently rooted successfully shed light on the status of the root method? I'm on N950XXXS7DSHC. Thanks!
I have no problems at all with mine. N950F (Same as yours) converted to T-Mobile US N950U basically. While still having unlocked sim (Unlocked for any carrier), No bloatware and I did not do any camera mods. I have hads every note from the Note 3 to Note 9. So i have no issues with the stock camera. Only i changed was my CSC so i can get video calling, Caller ID etc. Still stock firmware 9.0, Don't care about Spay (Use google pay if i had to) and that's pretty much it. If you do root good luck.
Thanks for the response. Did you first root on the update i mentioned? In the root thread i read comments from people trying to root the first time after recent updates who got problems, boot loops. My question is to know if these updates change the root situation. When did you root your phone?

I am wondering the same thing. Isn't the N950U have a snapdragon SoC?

Yes it does, I had a S8 that was a U1 and It was snapdragon. And from what I've read the software isn't interchangeable.

Sorry for the late response guys. I did not convert my phone from a n950f to n950u. It still is a n950f exynos version not the Snapdragon one. only thing I have in the phone that is modified and I guess I'm the one reason I rooted the phone is so I can have the T-Mobile firmware on there cause I use MetroPCS (T-Mobile mvno). I still have two dual SIM function and I still have the international unlocked version compared to the US version where you have to get it unlocked or you have to pay to unlock or whichever. If that explains it.

"if I didn't root or modified a phone I wouldn't be able to get it to work on MetroPCS or T-Mobile hundred percent correctly like I wanted it to. I could of left it how it came (stock) but I had to in a way root it to get past certain things anyways. And at the end of the day I don't mind a rooted or modified phone.

The question I have is how did you do this? Also I am on cricket which is a at&t mvno and I want to be on there firmware, mine says that it is from uae and everything even Bixby is in European so weather is spoken in C° not F°. There are other stuff that irritates me.

I changed the CSC to T-Mobile. So I can have things like video calling (Kinda buggy sometimes), VoLTE (Which works just like a Metro phone (HD sometimes HD+), And my boot logo is T-Mo. Why do you wanna be on there firmware? You have to search up the CSC for AT&T so you turn your UAE phone into a US in a way. Why don't you just go into the weather app or bixby and switch to Fahrenheit (You know you can do that)

Please excuse my persistence or lack of understanding but I'm not clear on your answer to the question I raised originally. You say your phone is the same as mine but not explicitly that you rooted after updating to the same firmware I'm running (N950XXXS7DSHC). I do know it was possible to root from earlier firmwares. If I hadn't updated and read anecdotal reports of serious problems trying to do it from the current firmware, I would have rooted my phone right away.
I know also that people make mistakes in rooting frequently, so reports of problems are not evidence that the root method doesn't work. Even with serious problems, there are often workarounds. The problem is the Dr. Ketan root thread seems inactive, so the last comments there all report problems that weren't answered, nor was my own question that I also posted there. I would just like confirmation from anyone who has rooted after updating to the current firmware. Did you root your phone on N950XXXS7DSHC? Sorry again if you thought you answered that.
Good question. Sorry
@Dumbo53 I was also looking for advice about this, but since no one seemed to really be giving a clear answer, I went with this. It's basically stock without all the issues of a custom ROM, while still having root. I wasn't willing to risk updating and not being able to root on the latest, so this was a good compromise.
