I am new to Verizon so maybe this is normal but it seems like when I have 2 and sometimes 3 bars of LTE as soon as I try to do something that requires data the LTE will drop off and the icon will disappear. This is kinda annoying as it makes me think the phone is reporting that it has LTE when it doesn't. I came from AT&T and the Note 3 and it seemed like if I had 2 bars of LTE things were just really slow but would eventually load if you were lucky. With this phone I seems like I need a sold 3-4 bars of LTE to do anything data related.
Is this normal behavior or does my phone have an issue? My phone may be going back for a screen issue anyways so this might be just another nail in the coffin.

My note 4 before lollipop used to be able to hold a LTE signal with 2 bars. After lollipop what you described started happening... Got the note 5 and it was even worse... It kept dropping LTE to 1x to 3G. So today I exchanged it for a S6+ and so far it hasn't dropped LTE all day.

Moto X on AT&T MVNO - signal strength drops to 0 briefly - phone or carrier problem?
I've got the Moto X GSM developers edition with Kitkat 4.4 unlocked and rooted. I am on H2O wireless (AT&T MVNO).
Several times a day, I'll hear a quick beep in my bluetooth headset alerting me to the fact that I have no mobile signal. I look at the phone and I have zero bars for maybe 30 seconds and then it goes back to (usually) 4 bars. This happens at home, where I always seem to have 4 bars except for these incidents, so it is not like I am in a marginal signal area and it is going between 1 and 0 bars. Is this likely a problem with the phone or with the carrier? I switched from PagePlus (Verizon MVNO) when I got the Moto X, so I don't have a history AT&T with another phone to look back on. I never had this happen when I was on Verizon towers with my previous phone (Droid 2 global).
I don't know if the loss of signal is real or a bug in reporting the signal strength because it doesn't last long enough to try and make a call. I haven't had any dropped calls, but I don't spend a lot of time talking, so the odds of this happening during a call are low. Still it is a bit of an annoyance and if the loss of signal is real, it will eventually happen during a call.
There may be nothing wrong, the phone may just be scanning for other bands that do not exist in the area. 30 seconds does seem like a long time though. I know when I use AT&T firmware with a different provider in Canada my phone will do exactly the same thing after a fresh firmware install, however after it happens a few times it stops and holds the signal fine. I am guessing it is building a database of what bands and protocols are available in the area. It might not hurt to do a full reset of the phone.

That doesn't sound quite like what my phone is doing because you say it happens a few times, then stops. It happens to me every day and I haven't recently installed firmware.
Anyone else having the same issue as me? On a Moto X or any other phone on AT&T?

This happens to me on AT&T on the GSM (T-Mobile) model sometimes too. It usually happens after a phone call is hung up and it's switching from HSPA back to LTE. Sometimes it's instant, other times it's 10-30 seconds.
I have noticed that with 5.1 while I normally got just 1-2 bars at home of signal I am now getting 3-4 and better speeds. At first I thought I was now getting Band 12(tmobile) but LTE Discovery says that I'm still on Band 4.
Anyone else seeing this?

When I am in a very weak signal area, I am definitely getting a better LTE signal. But voice/calling (GSM) is worse on AT&T. Where I could make a call previously, on a very weak signal, now I get nothing.
Just finished flashing 5.1 and setting it up - and I'm definitely getting higher single indicators for LTE now (T-mobile Band 4) - I rarely used to get 1 bar in my house, but now it constantly shows 2-3 bars. Whether the coverage is actually improved is yet to be determined...
5.1 is definitely giving me a better radio signal in my house as I usually only had 0 to 1 bars. Now i'm getting 3 to 4 bars and my messages are sending without without delay now. I'm on AT&t.

I'm getting better "signal" on 5.1 (more bars) However my lte speeds are horrible now Was 15-20 mbps and now its consistently 3-5 mbps on Tmobile.
Indicators can be changed to always look good. Actual signal probably didn't change.

This.
Its showing 3-4 bars of LTE in my house now, where before lucky to have 1.
But dbms are literally the same for me at least.
At work, inside thick concrete walls, inside of more thick concrete walls...I used to be able to keep a solid 4G signal. Now it barely keeps connected, and when it does it never goes off of EDGE. I'm on TMO btw.
I think I'll be switching back to the last radio. Not impressed with this new one from the 5.1 update.
Another thought is the transition from LTE to HSPA might be improved. I wasn't able to make a phone call in my basement at my desk. Now after the 5.1 update I was able to call and hold a conversation in the same spot.

Me Too
The 47E radio is the best radio so far (for me at least).
I have a brand new Nexus 6 64 Gb from T-mobile I just got. I had been on At&t with a different Nexus 6 so I know the phone inside and out. I was testing the phone and noticed the my wives new Lg g2 get perfect reception in my house. My Nexus get Zero bars Lte to 2. Mostly zero. Also I know when you make calls its over Hspa, but after I make a call it does not go back to Lte. Even if I browse the web or do speed test it stays on HSPA for 10+ mins or until I reboot the phone. It does this every time not just once in a while. Several times I have run speed test it has said no network even with 3 bars Lte. I did a lot of searching here and many people have issues with the Nexus 6 and T-mobile.
What do you guys think? Bad phone? T-mobile is sending out a new one just in case.
if you are using data, it wont swich back to lte until you have no data flowing. while you ate using data, it wont switch, period. and the bars dont really matter, as they don't really show your connection. some companies even add extra bars just so the connection looks better. if you want to see your real connection, open your main settings, go to about phone, status, sim status, signal strength.

I checked my wives phone. In the same spot I will have -115 and she will be at -102. Even right now I am at -91 and dont have full bars. Also after I hang up I can leave it there doing nothing but the screen on, it wont switch back to lte. Even doing Airplane mode on\off should kick lte back on and it does not.

airplane mode then back isnt supposed to kick it back to lte. for me it takes anywhere from seconds to 3-4 minutes. but that would also depend on the quality of lte signal in your area.
LMY47M Fixed the issue.
I had a S5 and normally had 2 bars of signal in my house all the time around -108dbm signal wise. Sometimes it will drop and lose calls or texts take a while to go thru but generally the phone was reliable and worked good.
I bought my unlocked nexus 6 2 days ago at best buy, popped in my sim card and connected to the network just fine.
In the house my signal bar is all over the damn place. 2 bars then no signal then 1 bar then no signal, is chalk it up to bad signal if it didn't do this outside the house also.
I haven't done anything to the phone so I don't know if it is just something little and stupid i need to change in the settings or if I need to flash the Verizon firmware on it . any help would be appreciated
There is no specific Verizon firmware. LMY48I is the current build. You could try flashing different radios and see if one works better for your towers.
My brother-in-law gave me an S5 Active (5.0) last week . I played around with it on Wi-Fi and decided to put my SIM card in and try it out for a while. I'm really trying to like this phone, but it's got some issues that are terribly annoying. The cell signal is terrible just about everywhere I am it seems. It's mostly stuck to 4G, but frequently switches between 4G and LTE. I came from a Lumia 640, and I had LTE and excellent signal everywhere the S5 struggles to even get 2 bars of 4G. My mom lives in a rural area and my 640 had LTE in several parts of her house while the S5 cant obtain a signal to save it's life, let alone it's battery. When it loses its signal or I switch on Airplane Mode to reset it, it takes forever to get a signal back, sometimes I have to reboot the phone to get connected again.
I would really like to root it and flash a different radio if that is even an option. But from what I've seen on the forums you can't downgrade from 5.0. I'd also like to change the DPI because Lollipop really knows how to make a 5" screen look small.. But doing this requires root also.
Does anyone else have signal issues like this with their S5/Active? Anything I can do to fix it? Btw, I'm on Cricket and my location is Southeast Michigan.
