Any way to disable Air Command?
So in a bunch of the art softwares for Android, you can use the S Pen's button and assign it to undo, or flip the canvas, or whatever you want. So I set it to undo, which is immensely useful. Problem is, every time I hit the button, the stupid Air Command menu comes up which I have to click out of. I have tried ending the service but it starts back up immediately, and since you can't root the Note 5 on Verizon AFAIK, I can't find a way to disable the service completely. On previous Notes, wasn't there a way to turn this off? I need to make it so that hitting the button on the S Pen does nothing. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Have you tried the General S pen settings?

I managed to turn off my air command and it is off I'm not sure if your carrier has anything to do with it. I am able to disable the S pen features air command ect but I like them so I enabled them once again

I only have two options: I can disable the persistence of the Air Command icon on the screen, and I can choose whether removing the S Pen triggers it, but there is no option to turn Air Command off.

Hello,
I'm having the same issue, I use a few art apps that utilize the S pen button to toggle undo or eraser... I was bummed that I couldn't find any setting to turn air command off.. how could it be, it was possible in previous note models and tablets.
anyone, is there a way to disable air command in Note 5?
You could install package disabled pro from the playstore. It allows you to disable any app you want, even system apps.

I'm looking to use the Nexus one hardware to create a single purpose device that will run an app at boot up and not allow the user to exit the app. This device will be given to users to take home for days so needs to be tamper-proof. i.e. cannot make calls, cannot SMS, cannot access rest of the OS, etc.
At the Android API level, I believe I can auto-start the app and "disable" the home button but cannot get around the long-press home button recent app list.
One possible solution would be to open it up and physically unplug the buttons' ribbon connector from the PCB.
What I would prefer is to somehow disable the home button using a cooked ROM that will ignore it in this particular app and the app can have some kind of secret way to exit. I do not know how difficult this would be using a rooted Nexus one.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
You would need to build it from source. (non winzip deving)
If any knowledgeable person get's it it would be pretty easy to boot into recovery and edit system files or wipe it.
The nexus would not be suitable for this because of the nature of the bootloader.
To be honest, I personally think you would be better off building your own device for this. I'm sure that the buttons could be disabled easily enough, but the tamper proof part is a little different.
Main reason:
If you make the device so that you can't boot into recovery, fastboot, or tamper with it in anyway. How would you yourself make any additional modifications to the device?
You guy have some good points.
Maybe it's better off just using rooted stock ROM and set it as home screen then physically disable the hardware buttons. The battery cover will be glued shut to prevent access to SIM and battery anyway
As for making changes to the app, I believe ADK will allow me to update the app through USB. I wonder if its feasible to do auto-update it over network...?
wow your trying to lock the device down sounds like steve jobs lol
would not the best approach to this is to write your app as a home replacement and not show any apps? you could disable access to app drawer and settings, then you would only need to hook/disable home long press.
You wont be able stop a savvy user from flashing something on it easily.
What about setting up a pattern lock and using FLAG_SHOW_WHEN_LOCKED
to display on top of the lock? If the user tries to exit your program they'll be greeted with the pattern lock. Have some timer so your app automatically comes back to the top.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the last app list show NO apps if no apps were launched yet?

Yes you're right. I've set my app as home screen replacement and after reboot there wasn't any 'recent app' list
Looks like I don't need a custom ROM after all.
Just out of curiosity, what exactly are you doing with the phone that requires it to be tamper proof?

That's an interesting approach, I will have to explore that more.
How can users actually exit the app when it's over the lock screen? Does that mean all buttons including home will not do anything since lock screen is keyguarded? Does touch still register? Is this the workaround that the custom lock screen app uses?

Hello, I'm having issues with my N6 after the Marshmallow But I am facing a problem that for each application, I am getting screen overlay detected. If I follow on screen instructions, in settings, I can't change permission. i cannot upload any images from my phone to facebook, instagram basically any app trying to access the drive on my phone. can you guys help solve this issue.
thanks,
A quick Google search for "screen overlay detected" found a lot of results indicating this is due to screen filtering apps that modify the screen brightness, such as Lux, Bluelight Filter, Twilight, etc.

Yes, they also prevent you granting root access to apps too. Lux is the most common. These apps put an overlay over the UI. Android protection prevents you pressing "serious" buttons in case it is the overlay working to malicious intents.

okay. I have called google support for five nights and not one tech support person was able to help me. After countless hours of fiddling i figured out how to fix this problem. Put your phone in safe mode (press the power off button and press on the on screen power off icon until it asks if you want to go in safe mode. Press okay) then once it reboots, go to settings, then apps, click on the facebook app or whatever app you have the problem with, press permissions and then turn on all the permissions (toggle to the right and it should turn green). Repeat for whichever other apps have this problem then turn reboot the phone and voila! It's fixed. :d

I was thinking going back to Lollipop, then you saved my days. This "Screen overlay detected" was driving me nuts as I have tons of apps that requires "Draw over other apps" such as Sidebar Launcher, SuperSU, Widgetsoid, Rotation Manager... almost 30 apps. So every time I install new app I virtually have to turn off the "Draw over other apps" for all these 30 then set the permissions then turn them on again. It's so frustrating. And if I stupidly reset permissions for all apps then virtually most are unusable. Now with Safemode I can grant an app all the permissions it requires without turn the "Draw over other apps" off.

It's good you solved your problem. You shouldn't be running anything from Cheetah Mobile, as every single app they produce is pretty much junk.
Grrr
Omni swipe program can also cause this disable it or uninstall
For me it's just SwipePad that I use which has an always on overlay. If you know what apps are overlaying I've found a workaround you can setup. Ideally an app shouldn't have an invisible overlay permanently hogging resources so you should find and disable them permanently if they're unwanted anyway. An app like Elixir with it's "running" processes/services filtered to User can help finding the culprit.
So I use a workaround to quickly disable an overlay for permission toggling. A "Task Shortcut" that uses the Tasker Greenify plugin (don't know if pro is required) to Hibernate the overlay app/s, Wait for a configured time and then Wake. Note that the wake process takes five seconds to finish.
I open my shortcut from SwipePad itself for it to disable for ten seconds while I click away at permissions to my hearts content. When the time is up it resumes working normally and all is well :highfive:

This is because of the apps that are using "draw over other apps" feature. You can just turn them off from settings. If you want a head up on how to do this, you can go to this link here. Fix screen overlay detected

i'm ready to put my phone in the garbage disposal over this error. i can't get rid of it and can't even download a simple APK file from chrome without getting it. I've done everything suggested in every youtube video and what you said above.
i turn off screen overlay for every app shown, which is about 30 and i have none of the so called problem apps installed.
i go into safe mode and try to turn on a permission and I STILL GET THE SCREEN OVERLAY ERROR. i have no idea what to do or what is wrong.
Hello everyone!
So I've had the note 5 for 2 months now. I decided to disable Air Command for the S Pen when you pull it out. I now want to re-enable the Air Command option to show when I pull out the spen but for some reason when I go into the settings and try to enable it, everything is grayed out and I can't click the option to re-enable it. I never put my spen in backwards, and it makes the sound everything I pull the spen out, so I am assuming that the pen detection is working fine. I tried enabling and disabling different options for the spen that might have cause a conflict for the Air Command setting to enable and nothing to my luck. I also tried removing the spen and putting it back while in the setting menu. Please help. How do i reenable air command witout factory restting the phone? Thanks in advance!
Ps: I couldn't share a link to the screenshot I took to show you guys how it's grayed out.

I have to guess that you used a third party app to disable Air command because I cannot disable it through the stock application manager. If so, use that third party app to enable it, restart and try again. Maybe even clear cache and force stop the app then restart if that doesn't work. Good luck.

No, I didn't use any 3rd party app to disable it. I'm especially wary of things like that bc I know that causes issues. Plus, I don't need to use an app to disable it bc I had the option to disable it easily from the settings.
Maybe it will help to mention that the button on my spen doesn't activate the Air Command feature as well. The button itself does work, because there's another feature that allows you to highlight text with the button held down and it works just fine. I also have another spen I found at work that gives me the same results. I tried force stopping the Air Command application and reset cache and reset the phone and nothing changed.
I see. Your settings must be different than mine because I cannot disable mine in settings. Maybe someone else will be able to help you.

My aircommand is disabled too.. i am on a Custom ROM (RSR ROM) with MM. Factory default or clean wipe will be the only option to restore it back as i tried a lot of solutions, but nothing worked for me.

do u still have the issue or is it fixed?

Try these... maybe.
I want to use tasker to turn the screen off. Secure Settings > Lock Device forces me to use pin, which is not what I want, as I use a finger print scanner to wake my device. Shell > Input keyevent 26 does not work either, as I am not rooted (Huawei Mate 9 pro, doesn't seem to have a reliable root yet).
I have tried doing it with System > Send intent, but that seems to have no effect. I dont know if I am doing it wrong. I have also tried
Code:
terminal task
, with a code like this (and some variants of it), without success:
Code:
am start --user 0 -a android.intent.extra.KEY_EVENT --es KEYCODE_POWER ACTION_DOWN
I have also tinkered with
Code:
android.intent.action.SCREEN_OFF
...but with even less success.
Any ideas as how how I can get this to work? Either with terminal emulator or tasker send intent task?
I think you can't do that cause you're using your Fingerprint. That is a security future and Tasker can't bypass it. Don't nail me on it cause I am not sure. Maybe someone else can prove me wrong.

Maybe you could setup a workaround for this. For example, you could lower the display timeout value to one second so your device locks itself.
(Don't forget to change the timeout back to your preferred value after another second!)

Good idea. But the minimum is 7 seconds, which is too long to wait, for the solution to be worthwhile.
I found a way to do it:
1: Create a task:
display > display timeout: 8 seconds
scene: Show scene: popup - display as overlay, blocking, full screen2: create a profile for screen on, create task:
hide scene: popup
display > display timeout: 30 seconds
So you're hiding the ui with a black screen until the screen is really switched off after 8 seconds, right? But what happens when you press the back or home button within the 8 seconds? Does the scene disappear?
This is what I do. Just make a task with Run shell, no need for security settings app. In the command line type input keyevent 26. You then can add a short cut when you double tap the homescreen to turn off the screen.

I know it's been over 2 years since y'all had this discussion, but I hope this still reaches you.
The power button on my Mi A1 stopped working recently and I can't seem to find it's replacement flex cable anywhere. I'm entirely new to Tasker but I have been reading for hours now to find ways to use a screen based interaction (say a double tap on the screen) to simulate the Power button to turn the screen off while still being able to unlock my phone with my fingerprint scanner.
So far, I've understood that it is doable (with an article refering to input keyevent 26), even more so on Android Pie (with another article refering to using Global_Actions) than it was previously possible, but am entirely clueless on how. I also couldn't quite understand the process of using the remote ADB shell plugin you mention here.
Could either of the two of you please share a step-by-step how-to on how to achieve the same? It would really help a lot. Thank you
Note: I'm using unrooted Mi A1 running stock Android Pie with July 1st security patch.

There are button remapping apps and apps that do double tap for off in the play store. Also, launchers can do this. Nova launcher for sure, but others I believe as well.

It is. Although, the price is 3.5x the price if I got it from an authorised Xiaomi service centre (except the one in my locality doesn't have it) and about 14x than what is available at local mobile spare parts shops (again not available). Hopefully, I'll find it soon.

If you've been disabling system packages without knowing what they do then no wonder you have issues. Maybe provide a list of packages you did disable so we can try to work out if they would affect screen split. Otherwise we are just searching in the dark.
managed to solve it through restoring some of the packages i debloated earlier by using ADB AppControl. Split view is working now.
Which package did you restored, because I have the same problem?

I thought that app was for the edge panels. I'm surprised that would break split view. Just goes to show how far reaching some apps really are. Glad you sorted it.

That actually makes some sense because depending on which edge panel you enable it will only allow split view capable apps. which is a giant PITA for me. I hate split screen and have managed to disable it so I can use my panel as more like a quick launch bar....but i can only add split view capable apps to the bar.
